Secure Connection Failed (Error code: sec_error_ca_cert_invalid)

Hello
I'm having troulbes accessing HP iLO with FF 36.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, getting the following error message:
====================================
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to 172.25.X.X. Issuer certificate is invalid. (Error code: sec_error_ca_cert_invalid)
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
====================================
It seems to work with other browser such as Chromium, so the problem seems to be FF 36.0. Unfortunately, I don't have an "Add exception" button in FF that would allow me to bypass this warning.
I've already followed the following links:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/secure-connection-failed-error-message
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems
But I didn't managed to get it work. Any idea how to get it fixed?

I have a better answer, upgrade to version 37 via bug 1138332

  • Secure Connection Failed: Error code: ssl_error_illegal_parameter_alert - New problem after website moved to new server.

My website was migrated to a new cloud server last week and after the move visitors to my site using Firefox have been intermittently receiving the following error when visiting a https:// url.
    Secure Connection Failed

Upon a few refreshes the page may load again but often very slowly and often not all images will load.
The web hosts have tried many things, have had cpanel techs check the server and even set up a new ssl certificate to try and resolve the problem with no luck.
Researching the internet shows that people have faced this issue when upgrading Firefox or with certain AntiVirus software conflicts.
However I can't tell all FF visitors to start altering their config files in order to be able to visit my site.
I don't understand how I didn't have this issue prior to the migration but now something has changed that no one knows how to resolve.
For reference: I am using FF 28.0 and I am not experiencing this SSL error on any other site other than my own since the migration.
Does anyone have any information on what the web host may be able to do to fix this SSL issue that only occurs for FireFox users?
Thank you for any suggestions you may be able to offer.

I can get ebay site up but cannot sign in to my personal account
I cannot even get halifax site up
I have already reported 'broken site'
These sites give no bother when using IE but Firefox is my preferred browser (for now anyway)

    ls -l /var/run/lighttpd/
And how are you spawning the php instances? I don't see that in the daemons array anywhere.
EDIT: It looks like the info in that page is no longer using pre-spawned instances, but lighttpd adaptive-spawn. The documentation has been made inconsistent it looks like.
You will note that with pre-spawned information, the config looks different[1].
You need to do one or the other, not both (eg. choose adaptive-spawn, or pre-spawn..not both).

  • We are receiving a "Secure Connection Failed" error message when using Firefox Version 37.01. What is the remedy?

We have multiple websites that do not launch now as a result of the recent upgrade from Firefox version 36.04 to version 37.01. We received "Secure Connection Failed" error messages which indicate that the connection was interrupted while the page was loading, and that the page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please explain why this is happening, and if a fix will be issued soon by Mozilla, as everything was operating normally prior to the most recent Firefox upgrade. Alternatively, please identify browser settings that can/should be changed in order for Firefox to access these basic Internet sites (that are completely accessible using other browsers such as IE and Google Chrome). Thank you.

FYI, I work with the original poster. I looked at the suggestions on that page but none were the issue. Then I found this thread:

And that appears to be the problem we and others are having.

  • I get a "Secure Connection Failed" error with google stating "certificate contains the same serial number"

When I click on a link for a google search, I get the "Secure Connection Failed" error in Firefox. It states, "Please contact the server administrator or email correspondent and give them the following information: Your certificate contains the same serial number as another certificate issued by the certificate authority."
I have followed the instructions here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Certificate%20contains%20the%20same%20serial%20number%20as%20another%20certificate
    and looked at this article:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1028103?esab=a&as=aaq
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, deleted the entire profiles folder, and reset Firefox. I see that the older (orphaned) article points to my router. However, I have a new router and have updated its software. There is no button to add an exception (as noted in the article), so I can't just bypass it. This problem does not occur with IE, so I have a hard time believing it is my router.
How do I troubleshoot this issue? I really don't want to change browsers.

Here is a screen shot of the error.

  • Upgrading from 35 to 36 caused secure connection failed errors

We have a couple of different applications that our customers suddenly are having issues with on a pair of load balanced web servers after they upgrade to version 36 of Firefox. It worked fine in 35 and still works in Chrome and IE. The error only happens on certain pages within the sites. The exact error is this:
    Secure Connection Failed
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
The exact same apps work fine on other servers with version 36, so I’m guessing it is some kind of a certificate/cipher issue with the server or load balancer. I have searched for this message and see others have similar issues when attempting to upload files but the pages failing don't have any file uploads on them.
Any suggestions on what to look at?

After spending some more time browsing around on the forums, I stumbled on this thread:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1050465
We changed the max parse length parameter to 65535 in our Cisco ACE20-MOD-K9 load balancer and this solved the issue:
    parameter-map type http HTTP-PARAM-MAP
    set header-maxparse-length 65535
    length-exceed continue

  • Getting "Secured Connection Failed" error message on a website that always worked previously

Displays error: The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
Site could always be accessed previously and can be accessed using Chrome and IE

Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page (i.e. no authentication or signing on required)?
It is possible that the website uses a deprecated RC4 cipher suite.

In Firefox 36 you could bypass this, but this is no longer possible in Firefox 37.
This is now a standard and already implemented in Firefox and other browsers will likely follow.

secure connection failed error msg pops up about every 3-4 minutes. it's driving me nuts- i don't have the time to keep removing this window every time it appears. i'm getting this msg for websites like yahoo, google, - hey, come on - these websites are secure. you've got some kind of problem with this security - it's too sensitive. is there any way to remove this security feature from my firefox ? i had ver 7 and thought if i updated to 8.0 it would solve the problem. it doesn't. my OS is win 7.
i also have firefox 6 installed on my other pc - it has win XP and i can't get on line with it - instead i get a "mozilla crash reporter" error msg telling me firefox had a problem and crashed
need some help here. i really don't want to go back to IE but if i can't get theses prob fixed - i'll have no choice.

  • On attempting to connect to my router's configuration interface, I get Secure Connection Failed

When connecting to my local router's configuraton webpage, I get a "Secure Connection Failed" Error message. "The page you are trying to view can not be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified." No SSL error is shown, so I am unable to track it further. I just did a full distribution upgrade but it appears that Seamonkey also exhibits this behavior as well. Restarting safe mode did nothing, so I am at a loss.

Sounds that your router doesn't send a full certificate chain that ends with a Firefox built-in root certificate.
Check out why the site is untrusted (click "Technical Details to expand that section) and if this is caused by a missing intermediate certificate then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
