Secure shopping on iPad

Hi all -
Just wondering if online shopping is secure on the iPad- I'm not seeing "https" when I try to check out on Safari for sites like Amazon, Drugstore.com, etc.
Is there a security setting I need to activate?
Thanks!!

Your iPad is just as secure as any computer in this regard, which depends on things like the site and the network you're on.  Amazon will definitely give you a secure connection when it needs to.  For example, click on the Your Account link and you'll get an https URL.  Note that if you're using iOS 5, the current tab in Safari will display a lock icon if the page is secure.  I don't recall how this worked in iOS 4 anymore.

Same as any other iPad or iPhone.
There has been no malware that I have heard of on the iPad.
I would say it is very safe.  I buy on the inernet all the time.
Optional: for a minor improvement in security, change your DNS server to Google
You could change your DNS server to Googles. I use Google.
Google provides free dns lookup.  Their numbers are:

    8.8.4.4

  • Internet Security protection for iPad

New to iPad.  Forgive my stupid question. I learned today I can't download Norton Internet Security onto my iPad. How can I protect my personal info. and credit card # when ordering stuff online using my iPad?  Is my iPad protected from viruses?

You can't get a virus on your ipad as you can only download applications on it from the App Store and they are all scanned by apple before they go live on the store.
Rest assured your credit cards and personal info will be safe.
Just make sure you do sensitive transactions over a secured wireless network and here's nothing to worry about.

How to secure iPhone and iPad when traveling abroad against xtra charges?

You can either put them in "Flight Mode" ( Found in settings. This feature disables 3G, 4G and Wifi), or you can go into your settings and turn off mobile networking ( also found in settings, this allows you to connect to wifi, but disables mobile networking)

  • Trouble with template for secure shopping pages

Using DW for the first time to create pages for a website that includes a secure shopping site (shared SSL). I created all the pages from the same template, uploaded them all, and everything looked fine, until the cart went to the secure link...then the design fell apart - no styles, no images, no nothing. I asked my web host, and he said that the leading slash before the image and stylesheet links must be removed for all pages that will be accessed on the secure side. So, I created a second template, removed those leading slashes, so the links looked like "images/header.jpg" instead of "/images/header.jpg", etc. Switched the cart pages over to that template and everything is working beautifully now, on the site.
The problem is, the template itself in DW is just awful in Design view. It looks about like what the secure pages looked like online before I removed the forward slashes. I wanted to have the ability to make global changes to the site using the template, but I can't see what I'm doing in Design View.
Is there another solution, or a workaround for this issue?

I recently learned about Live View, and find it helpful in many situations. However, in this case, even Live View and browser preview is trashed when viewing the template itself. The odd thing is, the pages BASED on the template look ok in Live View and browser preview. It's just the template that's messed up. I probably won't make that many changes to the cart pages, so I can probably live with it, but I'd like to know why it's doing this and if there's a solution.

  • What security does my iPad 2 have? Bit concerned as some of my accounts have been hacked in to. If it has none can anyone suggest any thing

What security does my IPad 2 have if any. Some of my accounts have been hacked. Can anyone suggest anything. Thanks

    Not silly questions at all!
"Safe" is a tricky term. Nobody can ever tell you that accessing websites is 100% safe. Even if you are going through an encrypted site, if you're in a public place, someone could be watching over your shoulder to see you type your login and password.
As you say, the iPad itself is relatively (compared to PCs) secure in the sense that there is no chance of viruses or malware stealing your logins.
But you can take sensible steps to be careful.
If you think you have reason to be concerned about the security of any of the sites you've mentioned, I would recommend you change your passwords. Start with email - if someone else has access to your email, they will often be able to detect and reset any changes you make to other accounts. Then change the other accounts.
Do not use the same password for all your accounts.
Gmail has the ability to use SSL - check in your iPad's Mail settings whether "Use SSL" is ON.
The Barclays app should certainly transmit information in an encrypted manner, so again, provided you have a good password and are cautious about logging in in public view, you're covering your bases.
Finally, let me give you one perspective on computer security that has a lot of truth to it:

  • HT201441 I would like to help where I can not open my iPad I bought it from the shop and iPad

    Hi
I would like to help where I can not open my iPad I bought it from the shop and iPad user when I want to open the device to access the mechanism. Ask me to calculate the previous owner. I went to the store where you purchased told me Contact Apple. Please, I've lost a sum of money. Device number imei 013116000935329

Only the previous owner can help you.  Take it back to the store and demand your money back.  You will not be able to activate and use it without help from the previous owner.  The shop should not have sold you an iPad that was still associated with the previous owner's account.

  • How do you set security on an IPad?

I would like to set security on my IPad that prevents access to inappropriate sites.  I know how to Pass Code protect the entire IPad, but I want to prevent anyone accessing anything inappropriate.

See Restrictions under Settings > General.

  • Does this new security breach affect iPad first generation users?

Does this new security breach affect iPad first generation users?  My model uses IOS 5.1.1 software.  Will they be making a patch for us too?

    What breach?
    Nothing was breached.
There was a flaw in ios 6 and 7 in how ssl ccertificates were handled.
Since over 80% of users are on ios 7, around 18% on ios 6 and less than 3% on ios 5-ios 5 is dead.

  • HT5244 Do I need McAffee, etc security for my iPad

Do I need McAffee, etc security for my iPad 3 or can I do internet banking etc without worry.

I originally had a Zagg screen cover but they are tricky to install good. Too easy for a piece of lint or such to get under them. I replaced it with a cheap 'three covers for 5 dollars' screen protector. It's a bit annoying because its glossy....but right now I have my iPad in a Zagg portfolio so it's in a case with a keyboard - and there are little rubber bumpers that touch the iPad, and I like the thought of having the screen protector there just in case.
Look for one that advertises no residue and that clings more by static than any adhesive. I'd also look and see if it advertises clarity and a matte surface...the glossy iPad screen can be a bit tricky in the wrong lighting.
I'll always have one on mine, just because. I've sunk a chunk o change into this and I'd like to protect it.
