Secure websites automatically opens Acrobat Prof 6

I am having a very unusual, yet very annoying problem with Acrobat Professional 6. After I updated Adobe Reader to version 8, Acrobat automatically launches every time I try to logon to two of my banking websites. When I type in my username and password on the banking site, Acrobat attempts to launch, but it gives me an error message which says: "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit and try again". When I click OK it gives me another error message: "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit and try again." Everytime I click OK, it keeps repeating the error about 5 or 6 times in a row, until finally I get into my bank account. The thing is, I am not trying to view any PDF files, I just want to logon to my bank's website. This is extremely frustrating. I have tried uninstalling Acrobat Prof and Adobe Reader, but that does not help. I am running Vista and I know Acrobat 6 was not entirely compatible with Vista, but I have loaded the recent patch and it has worked fine on Vista for some time. Anyone have any idea what is causing this and have any solutions? Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks.

John, I read through the forum you referred me to and was surprised at how prevalent this issue was.
The good news is that I discovered a fix that worked for me:

I was previously running Reader 8 with Acrobat Prof 6 which was causing a conflict. I downloaded and installed Reader 9 and voila! No more opening Acrobat 6 when I try to login in to secure websites.
Angela, not sure if this will solve your issue, but it is certainly worth a try.
Thanks again for your help John.

  • Automatically opening Acrobat reader when PDF form is downloaded

    Hello.
    Hope we are all well.
I am wondering if there was a  way to have the PDF form open up automatically in Acrobat Reader when the customer downloads it. Unfortunately I am dealing with people who aren't that internet savvy and usually impatient about it (they are tradies, mainly plasterers), so when they download the PDF form and try to open it, the web browser will try to open the PDF in another page making the "submit" button to stop working. Is there any tricks to bypass the browser from doing this so I can have it opened directly by acrobat reader if it is already installed on their pc? Cheers.

That's a shame. I have put a description on the page explaining (with a link) they will have to open in Acrobat for the submit button to work. I was hoping there might be a script to stop the browser trying to open the PDF form instead of Acrobat. Thanks for your reply .

Unwanted websites like "adengine", "i-phone-cheat" and some other sites open up in a fresh tab automatically at regular time intervals and these sites further guide me to sites like "bigcountries","miley-cyrus" etc etc. I have tried resolving the issue by checking my computer for Malware, resetting firefox, clearing extensions, clearing cache, scanning for virus etc but the problem still persists. Please help me get rid of this issue permanently.

  • Has anyone else noticed websites automatically opening App Store?

I don't know if this is a vulnerability opened up in IOS 7 (when I firs noticed it) or if it's just something unscrupulous web vultures have recently discovered, but I've noticed I'll be on a website (usually one of those websites with lists, or pictures, or something designed to drive you to more and more page hits so you know they are already on the edge) and all of a sudden, the App Store opens to some stupid game or another.  Normally, it would ask you first even if you selected a link to an app.
Worse, maybe Apple is in collusion now with web developers?  I hope not.
If the former, Apple, if you ever read these, please look into this.

Apple rarely, if ever, comments on news stories, even to main stream media, so that's not surprising.
I've noticed exactly what you have, and there is definitely no link clicking going on.
Programming wise, it's actually pretty simple to do, and doesn't require the user click a link to open the AppStore.
I've noticed it mainly happens on forums or web-sites that are funded by affiliate links and adverts, and in my experience, the links are almost always to games.
Quite annoying, but its just standard Javascript used by less scrupulous web sites. I'm not really sure what, if anything, Apple could do, as such people will find ways around and move quicker than any blocks Apple might be able to implement.

  • How do you prevent a random website from automatically opening when you add a new tab?

When I click to open a new tab (with the plus sign), this website automatically opens: http://www.searchqu.com/web?src=derr&appid=113&systemid=406&q=http%3A%2F%2F and says "search: oops! the website you were looking for could not be opened." i tried the new URL extension with the home page selected, and tried other related advice on here. none of it is working. i did cleans of my system with AVG and malware software. etc etc. also, sometimes i will be on a website and it will randomly switch to this website and keep me from accessing the correct one. help!

hello cstien, you can either try to install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/ searchreset addon] to reset the new tab page or manually change the relevant settings:
enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), search for the preference named '''browser.newtab.url''' and double-click & change its value to about:blank (the default would be about:newtab which shows thumbnails & links to your most visited pages).

  • How do I get all TIF files to automatically open into Photoshop?

When I use Internet Explorer, I can set my computer so that all TIF files on a manuscript-editing website automatically open into Photoshop. This doesn't work with Mozilla, and I am always asked to select a program to open the file. Can I use Firefox, and still get all files with a TIF extension to open into Photoshop when I click on them? Thanks!

To change the program that .indd files default to when opened in OSX, right click on the .indd file > Open With > Other.
Then navigate to the version of InDesign that you want to open them with (I have CS6 installed but its the same for CS5). Make sure you have "Always Open With" selected.

  • Acrobat Standard 9.0 automatically opens multiple files on startup

This problem was originally posted as "Acrobat Standard 9.1.2 update problem?"
In Vista Ultimate, I installed the Acrobat Standard 9.1.2 update, and afterward, my terminal began automatically opening multiple PDF files whenever Acrobat was started.  At one point, I let it run for several minutes, and got up to 33 opened files before I forced the program to shut down.
Although this problem was resolved by a program removal and reinstallation (restore previous version didn't work), it came back again, after I had worked on several PDF files since the reinstall.  Apparently, Acrobat feels compelled to open all of the PDF files I have worked on since the reinstallation, whenever it starts up.  In addition, it opens copies of all of these files when I open a Website PDF file. So I have two copies of the same filename open at the same time (usually impossible in Windows).  Since I removed v9.1.2 and reinstalled v9.0, the problem might not be connected to the 9.1.2 update I installed before it began; however, the 9.1.2 update might have made changes to the registry that the uninstall didn't correct.
HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED AUTOMATIC MULTIPLE FILE OPENINGS IN ACROBAT STANDARD 9.0 OR 9.1.2, AND IF SO, WHAT DID YOU DO ABOUT IT?  I'm desperate enough to seek technical advice from a random group of strangers.

I was having this problem on a Vista Ultimate machine after upgrading to Acrobat Pro 9.2, and solved it in the following way.
    1.  Exit Acrobat, open the task manager and be sure the acrobat.exe task is no longer running.
    2.  Open the directory C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Acrobat\9.0
    3.  Locate the file named Organizer90 and drag it to the desktop
    4.  Open Acrobat from the Start menu
Problem should be solved!  If not, exit Acrobat and drag the original Organizer90 file back to the original directory (replacing the newly created file).  I have no idea what the Organizer90 file does, so I don't know if you may be losing anything important using this method, but it did work for me in solving the "opening multiple files" problem.

  • How do I keep downloaded pdfs from automatically opening in Acrobat on a MAC?

I am downloading pdfs from FETCH on a MAC and they are automatically opening in Acrobat. How do I download and not have them open? There are literally hundreds of them.
    Thanks,

    Hi Brian,
The Safari web browser contains a feature, enabled by default, which causes all files considered "safe" to be automatically opened once they have finished downloading. Safari considers the following file types to be safe:
    - Pictures
    - Movies
    - Sounds
    - PDF files
    -Text documents
    - Disc images (.dmg files)
    - Other archive types
Although it can be convenient while enabled, this can be a very dangerous feature when it comes to your security. It can be disabled in a few easy steps.
    > Open your Safari web browser by clicking on the Safari icon in the dock.
    > Click on Safari in your Safari menu, located at the top of your screen. When the drop-down menu appears, choose Preferences.
    > Select the General tab from the Preferences window, which is now overlaying your browser window.
You will now see a check box labeled "Open 'safe' files after downloading", located near the middle of the Preferences window. If this box is checked, click on the check mark and verify that it is no longer active.
Click on the red circle/x located in the top left hand corner of the Preferences window to complete the process. You will now be returned to your main browser window.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • Automatically open new pdf in acrobat 8

    Hello all,
I have a user who was recently upgraded from Acrobat v7 to v8.0.
She reports that before the upgrade whenever she would save a document created in another program (ie. Page Maker or Photo Shop) as a .pdf file the newely created .pdf would automatically open in Acrobat for her. She reports that there was also an Acrobat 7 icon in her system tray.
After the upgrade, newly created .pdf documents to not automatically open, they must be opened manually and there is no Acrobat in the system tray.
Can anyone please tell me how I can re-enable this feature?
    Thanks in advance!
    -joe

    Thanks for the reply.
I actually was not talking about the quick launch links on the left of the taskbar, but rather the system tray icons on the right near the clock. The user in question reports that she previously had an Acrobat icon there whenever Acrobat was running. Having only seen her system after the upgrade though, I cannot verify this.
As far as using the Adobe PDF printer, there was no mention of this when the user was describing the previous functionality that we are trying to resture but I will look into that. I am currently awaiting a convienent time to access her system and attempt to make those changes.
I will update this with whether or not that solves the problem.
    Thanks again!

  • How can I disable the automatic opening on the Backup Assistant Plus website (and video) every time I connect my Droid 4 to my computer?

I am a mobile application developer (iOS and Android).
Our company bought an unlocked phone.
We have no need for backups.
Every time I plug our Droid 4 into the host computer (a Mac),
    it automatically opens this website:
    http://products.verizonwireless.com/index.aspx?id=fnd_backupAssistantPlus&vid=1
    This is *REALLY* annoying.
Is there any way to disable this (and if so, how)?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

This can be a highly frustrating problem. I just spent 45 minutes working on an email. Nearing the end I go to grab my mouse after typing and accidentally hit mouse 4 and lose everything. This isn't the first time I have lost work or an email. I would say the ONLY reason why there currently lacks a strong feedback against this is because the majority of people do not have mouse 4+5 buttons on their mice. Please add the option to just disable this "feature". It's just far to easy to accidentally hit these buttons accidentally and potentially lose a lot. I don't know anyone who actually uses these buttons anyways.

  • InDesign files automatically openning in Acrobat Pro 9.0

I just upgraded to CS3.3 Premium w/Acrobat Pro 9.0 from CS2 and now my ind files automatically open in Acrobat 9.0. Ind files all have the Acrobat 9.0 icon, which I went into properties > opens with to change (ie. program files > Adobe > InDesign CS3) and Windows will not accept the change. Actually when I click "ok" no error message appears, but 'opens with' still shows Acrobat Pro 9.0.
It gets wierder. If I go into properties and change 'opens with' to the IND short cut on my desktop, it changes, however when I attempt to open a ind file I get the error message 'file is not a valid Win32 program.'
I am running XP Media 2005 SP2, on an HP desktop, with an AMD 64 2.4 duo, 4 gigs RAM.
Any else have a similar issue?
    Thanks, Anton

    Anton,
I to had this problem just today and could not find any good help on file associations. I am running XP Pro on Windows. I uninstalled CS2 and still had CS3 on the computer. All associations for InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop went away. The only information I could find did not work.
This is what I did and it worked. I opened Control Panel, then File Options, and then the tab "File Types". I scrolled to the INDD extension and highlighted it. Then I chose the Advanced Tab, selected "new", typed in "Open" for the action and selected the InDesign.exe file. All Indd files associated with InDesign CS3.
I also repeated the same to get the AI and PSD files to associate.
I hope this is the right way to make the change, no guarantees, but so far it is working. Even CS and CS2 file versions show the CS3 logo and open correctly.

  • How to stop Acrobat from automatically opening created PDF?

This may be a question asked elsewhere, but my search didn't find it.
How can I stop Acrobat from automatically opening every PDF that I create in Adobe Reader?  I'm using using Acrobat 6.0 Pro.
Thanks for your help with this major annoyance!
    Cheers.

Adobe does not recommend Reader and Acrobat both be installed. They have strange interactions and can cause problems. If you do not have problems, you are lucky. Part of the problem is that they leave a part resident to enable quick opening. If it works for you, then fine. If you have some problems, you at least have an idea of what a prime candidate is for the error.
