If the soft reset failed, do hard reset. Dial *#7370# 12345 reformat, you'll lose all data. Make a backup first and restore without the settings.

  • Macbook Pro 10.6.8 unable to secure wifi connection

I want to add security to my open Airport wifi connection, but, I am unable to connect to UofM Secure to encrypt my linksys wifi.  Either "connection timed out" or "cannot connect to server" are the messages I receive. I've followed every step on various support forums, added it to the list in the Advanced wifi set up area in Systrem Preferences, set a password at this location to UofM Secure - WPA2 and nothing works.  It is shown to be selected but there is no lock icon at either the UofM Secure or the linksys from Sysytem Preferences nor from the top menu bar when I highlight the Airport icon.  I have read online that Apple and UofM were going to work on this issue, the problem identified as Macbook takning too long to connect.  Is there a patch or upgrade available.  Or, is there another option?  A different server or encrption site that Macbook CAN connect?  Thx for any help.  I appreciate it.

    Solution!
I tried everything short of installing/re-installing anything. What worked was, I started a new user account. The camera showed up and I could import photos. But better yet, when I went back to my own user account, magically the camera usb connection showed up there, too, and harmony was restored to my universe.

  • WIFI connection settings for DSI!!

    Hi
Sounds trivial but it isn't. Need SSID settings, WEP etc to configure DS for WIFI. Didn't have a problem with Sky but a few bugs with Infinity. Network Name/SSID is shown on Router as BT Homehub 2-8XC6. Should I enter all of this or just the alpha numeric at the end. Also need WEP when the router default is WPA. I know I can create one but don't want to **bleep** the settings which work fine at the moment. I've been entering the WPA key but I guess it doesn't like it.
(I've got the internal IP address)
Know this sounds a bit left field but it's important.
    Many thanks for your time.

If you want to go into technicals this may help explain
But in basic terms WEP is the old wireless encryption standard that now is less secure than the newer WPA encryption standard. Thats basically the difference Its why I cant understand why nintendo insist that the ds can only use a WEP conenction?
So insecure it can be cracked in less than 5 mins so not worth having. Best if possible to get a CAT5E cable for it, they are cheap enough for any length on ebay.

  • Issues connecting to secure wifi

I haven't seen this specific problem mentioned. Here is my issue. I can no longer connect to secure wifi connections that request user name/passwords. For example, my husband and I have the same phone (Galaxy S4). Our gym is now offering free wifi but requires you to log in, when my husband connects his phone to the wifi it redirects him to an internet browser to log in; mine does not. My phone just scans for the wifi, says that it is "saved" but will never connect. I had the exact issue at a hotel over the weekend that required a password. This problem seemed to have started a few months ago. I can access open wifi and password accounts that I had set up previous to this problem starting. Any thoughts?

I haven't been able to enter the information in the first place. It scans, finds the wifi and then marks it as "saved". I never get a browser window to enter user/password. I tried manually going to a browser but that doesn't work either.

  • 10.7.2 update messed up wifi connection

Did the recent update of osx lion messed up your wireless connection? I have a friend who has an old imac computer. According to him it did not allow him to connect to his secured wifi connection. He is only able to connect an unsecured wireless connection. The only way for him to connect to his wifi is to remove the password associated with his wifi connection. Is there a fix for this one?

Depending on how old the machine is, it is hard to say.  Machine ID in Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More info under the hardware tells you its age:
    iMac 5,1 and later supported 802.11n, 802.11g, 802.11b
iMac 1,1 and PowerMac 6,1 and later supported 802.11g, 802.11b
PowerMac 5,x and earlier 802.11b.  Only those which are on 802.11b don't support WPA2, and an ethernet 802.11g or higher bridge is recommended for connecting to secure WiFi.
If his iMac is of the right age, is the wireless router setup to accept the Mac's Media Access Control address on its setup?  Some routers are specific to which hardware can connect and you can control that.

*Entered a Static IP address on both router and iPhone--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
*Reserved an IP within range automatically allocated by LinkSys router--iPhone failed to connect to Internet

*Changed Router IP address from 198.168.2.1 to 198.168.1.1 (LinkSys default)--iPhone failed to connect to Internet
    3. Microsoft router MN-500:
Tried this old router (the one I used before purchasing the LinkSys). It is an old (circa 2002) Wireless B base station with WEP Security. The iPhone was never able to connect to the Internet using various settings, many of which were duplicates of the LinkSys tests above.
On both routers my wife's Dell laptop and my HP printer connect without incident, using the same network/security settings.
I have always been able to connect to various unsecured WiFi networks; I have never been able to connect to a secure WiFi network (although the only one I've really tried has been my own).
I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any suggestions?

    SUCCESS!!!!!
I visited my brother-in-law yesterday and attempted to connect with his secure network. By sheer luck, he is using the exact same model LinkSys router. My iPhone connected first time--so the iPhone was eliminated as a source of the problem.
I didn't do a lot of troubleshooting at his house, but I did notice that his network was set for both dynamic DHCP and dynamic DNS. I know that either or both of Windstream (my ISP) and my broadband modem requires a pair of static DNS addresses.
Sure enough, delving real deep into Windstream's support site, I discovered a LinkSys router DNS help page, specifying how to set static DNS addresses in LinkSys routers. I then accessed my router, enterd the known static addresses, saved the router settings, then rebooted the iPhone and connected to the network.
    SUCCESS!!!
Thanks to Jane, who suggested it was an ISP issue, Jason, and all at Apple support. dumonj, I'll email you directly. Try this suggestion and see if it helps.

  • IPhone Won't Connect to Secured Wifi

I recently got a new iPhone 4 and I am unable to connect to my secured WiFi network with it. I can connect to it just fine with my laptop, old droid phone, iPod touch. I can also connect to it if I remove the security but not if the security is on. I've looked all over online, tried everything I've read, even took it into the Apple store where they completely reset the phone, all to no avail. I also brought the phone into a Verizon store, and they were able to connect to a secured wifi hotspot in the store, so I'm going to assume its a problem with my router.
    ISP: Comcast Perfromance Cable
Modem: Comcast Motorola SB5120 Cable Modem
Router: Belkin N600 D8 Wireless N+ Router (Model: F9K1102v1); firmware up to date as of today.
I went to this website, plugged in all those settings and still nothing. I simply get "Unable to connect to <Network>". The one setting that I wasn't able to match to those had to do with DHCP. By going to my cable modem's config, I can tell that the DHCP client on it is turned on. The problem is, I cannot change the modem's settings readily through that page (192.168.100.1) and when I turn off the DHCP on my router my laptop has problems maintaining a connection.
Here's some screenshots of the settings, perhaps you guys have better insight/advice/etc. I've been trying to use the 2.4ghz connection for the iPod, I don't use it for anything else so I couldn't care less what the settings are... I just want it to be secured. I use the 5.0ghz connection for my laptop and such.
Here's the Channel and SSID settings... renamed the networks for the purpose of this.
    Security Settings
WPS Settings (Honestly, no idea what this does).
    Lastly, LAN settings:
If it's a problem with the phone itself, I still am with the 14 day return policy.

I guess I'm stumped other than to say that it can definitely create problems if you are trying to run DHCP on your wireless router if it already enabled on your Comcast cable modem.  You only want one device managing DHCP on your network, normally the one that is the furthest "upstream"; in this case that would be your Comcast router.  I would try disabling DHCP on your router just as an experiment, then power-cycle your Comcast router, followed by your Belkin router, followed by your phone, then see if it connects successfully.  If it does, and when you restart your other devices they connect successfully, I would try to figure out how to solve the problem of the laptop not maintaining a connection.  Perhaps it needs an driver update?

  • Wifi connection ipad3 password correct but says I am unable to connect? Have reset my network settings but still cannot connect! Any help would be gratefully received thanks.

Hi. I am having problems connecting to the wifi at my caravan site. My iPad recognises the connection but when I put the password in correctly it says it cannot connect. I have reset my network settings in general but it has made no difference . Any ideas?

    Some may not be applicable.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IPhone stays on Edge even though secure wifi is present and connected

My phone connects to unsecure wifi fine. If I try and connect to a secure network, enter the correct ID, the phone says I'm connected and I get the wireless symbol for about a minuit before it switches back to Edge. Unsecure wifi networks no problem. The same thing happened on three different secure networks - connected and then switched to Edge? Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a software issue with iPhone or am I missing something? We have numerous computers connected via the secure wireless network working fine. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
    iPhone

The Solution to the problem that you having is the following:
    "Go to" SETTINGS
    Wi-Fi
"Arrow over on the network which you are trying to connect"
    Forget this Network
    "Confirm" Forget Network
    "Go back to" Wi-Fi Networks
"Choose the network which you are trying to connect"
*"In the Security box arrow over and choose" WEP hex or ASCII
    "Now press" Enter Password
"Now enter your WEP Key etc..."
This should allow you to stay connected to a security protected network.

Why isn't my wifi connecting over a secure network? I typed the password in correctly, but it won't seem to connect.

Tap Settings / Wi-Fi. Tap the blue circle with an arrow to the right of your network then tap: Forget This Network.
Restart the iPad. Tap Settings / Wi-Fi. Tap the network name again then type in your password.
If that didn't help, try here >  Apple - Support - iPad - Wi-Fi Assistant
And try turning off your router for 5 minutes, then turn it back on. Try typing in the password again.

My IPad connects with my hotel wifi, but does not indicate that it is a secure wifi, even though it requires a password to access - no lock symbol appears against the wifi network, hence no password request, hence no internet access - help. My collegue who also has an Ipad can access the same wifi with ease, so it must be something to do with the settings on my machine, although checking the two machines, there appears to be no difference in the settings.

My experience with hotel wifi is that it's an open, and unsecured, connection, but unless you agree to their terms on a launch page, you can't go any further or connect. Sometimes I need to force safari to come up and even make it go to a page, to trigger the auto load of the 'agree to our terms' page.
Unless your machine is work provided so maybe could be blocked from unsecured net access?

My 5th gen iPod touch will not connect to Secure wifi networks. It always says incorrect passcode. I have checked the passcode over and over again and I am sure it's correct. it's not just happening with my home network, also at work it never works. It is fine connecting to unsecure networks though. please help me.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

    Hello,
I am unable to connect to any secure wifi network. Using iPhone 5, Model : MD300B/A, Software : 6.1.4 (10B350). Whenever I try to connect to any secure wifi network, it says password incorrect. But it connects fine with unsecured networks. Double checked the same secure networks with my iPad and it works fine. Tried reseting the network settings and all settings. Updated to latest firmware (6.1.4). Still not working.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Madhavan

I have the same problem. I can't connect to any password protected networks. I type in the correct password, but I'm unable to login. I don't have the option for the iphone to forget the network, because I've never been able to log in and therefore there is nothing to forget. The option doesn't even come up. Is anyone else having this problem? It is this way for 2 different networks.
