Secured media access over Internet on ix2-dl

I have been very happy with accessing my media off my ix2-dl over LAN with moy mobile devices, and I noticed that the Media Server functionality does allow for remote Internet access to my media. I'm trying to understand whether or not that is secured, i.e. if a username and password is required and if it's going over SSL. In looking at the cloud configuration settings, the language suggests media is wide open to anyone on the Internet, which would be crazy to allow.
So is remote Media Server access possible, secured with login and optionally SSL? My end goal would be to stream my medica to my mobile devices while away from home, using hotel WiFi or my mobile hotspot.

Hello hizpanick
At this time there are no plans to add secured media streams for the intergrated media server feature.  That of course is not set in stone.  If you would like, you could contact LenovoEMC Support and submit a feature request that would be sent to engineering for consideration.

  • Database access over INTERNET

I have a database on a machine on the INTERNET (say MAC1).
I also have a LAN setup, wherein we access the internet via a proxy server.
I can ping MAC1 from the proxy server on my LAN but as I cannot ping MAC1 from any other machine in the LAN, and hence I am unable to create Net8 connection, and hence could not connect to the server.
    Looking for a way around.
    Advice..................

The most obvious solution is open a port in the firewall, by default, that is 1521.
Have you considered using a VPN or SSH tunnel? (If your server is *NIX based.)

  • Native (Not Web) Calendar Access over Internet  / SSL

    Hi,
Is this possible? Our company uses OCS and we have an SSL VPN. I can access the web client for outlook anywhere via HTTPS/SSL access. However to use the native calendar client or Outlook Connector - it appears I need to be on our LAN. Do you know if it is possible to access the client directly over the internet?
Classic example is obviously syncing a PDA. It expects the calendar to be available. When I sync my PDA to my notebook on the go this isn't possible.
    Comments appreciated.
    Thanks,

Sorry if this question sounds dumb - but I have tried to research it as much as possible. To add some detail to this:
MS Outlook can connect to Exchange/Active Directory server over RPC port 135 over the internet - no problem. Due to viruses (Microsoft - need I say more?), many places have blocked this port and effectively shut down hosted solutions on Exchange.
So my question here is does OCS have any such limitation? Or can I run the native client (Or MS Outlook with the Oracle Connector) in confidence over the internet without worrying about issues like the one above affecting MS Exchange?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Access via internet

    Hi,
Can I configure my time capsule as a file server and can I access over internet via PC?

You can setup the TC as a fire server.. although as I have posted many times this morning.. it is a bad idea.. the TC is unable to back itself up. It has a single disk so any failure is total failure.
And no, you cannot access it from a PC remotely in any way that is secure unless you are using a vpn router and have the TC installed behind it as bridged device. That is really the only way, as SMB file protocol is not available on the WAN of the TC, only AFP.

  • How can I access my home security DVR from the internet?

My Time Capsule (as a router and not a bridge) blocks me from accessing my home security DVR from the internet.  I can access it from other computers connected to my LAN but not from the internet.  I guess it's a firewall setting issue.  I can't add the home security application to the list of firewall allowed incoming connections since it's a Windows app that I cannot install on my Mac.  On the other hand, the app is installed on my old PC but I can't access the Mac firwall settings from the PC and add the security app (If that's the problem).
My DVR is connected to a Netgear switch which is connected to the Time Capsule which is connected to a Cisco modem provided by Comcast. I thought one of the modem ports had to be opened by Comcast. That was not the issue.  After spending 2 hours on the phone with Comcast going in circles talking to 10 different overseas agents, they concluded the Netgear switch was blocking me from accessing the DVR.  I think they are wrong and that it's a Mac firewall problem.  HELP!!!  Does anyone know what could be the problem and how to solve it?

Did you forward the required ports in the TIme Capsule? If not it won't work.. it has nothing to do with firewall unless the DVR is plugged into the Mac. If it is plugged into a switch you need to lock the IP of the DVR and find out what ports are required.. usually just port 80, ie html.. but it could be some others.
Since Apple do not use upnp to open ports.. the TC will have to manually be provided with the ports.. Apple use PMP-NAT that is not used by the rest of the known world.. Just to ensure you stay in the camp.

Sounds like a bogus pop up. In any case power down your Mac, your modem, your router. Then power back up in 1 minute sequence; modem, router, Mac.

  • I downloaded the latest Firefox security update and my computer will no longer access the internet in any fashion, despite the fact that I'm still connected to the internet. Other browsers no longer work either.

Immediately after I downloaded the latest firefox security update my computer will no longer access the internet. I still have a fine wireless connection but Firefox, Internet Explorer, Itunes, and every other program will no longer access the internet, saying there is a connection error. I even tried restoring my system to a previous date but it said that a security program was preventing it from doing so.

What's the security program called? Is it '''Win 7 Security''' by any chance? There's a rogue AV app that will prevent internet access by that name. It comes in many different flavours, but it's basically the same product with different names depending on the operating system its aimed at. See screenshot.
Do you have another computer you can use to download Malwarebytes? Or can you get a friend to download it for you and copy it to a USB drive? Download from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
You can use the USB drive to transfer the program to your own PC and then install it.

  • TS1398 I have connected my iPad 2 to my Mac Air over blue tooth.  Booth say they are connected to each other.  But I can not access the internet on the IPAD.  I can connect over blue tooth from my iPhone to my iPad with no issue.  Any thoughts?  Thank you

I am trying to connect my Ipad 2 to my Mac Air over bluetooth.
I can connect them to each other, and both machines say they are connected over bluetooth.
However I can not access the internet on the Ipad...says it is not connected to the internet.
Does anyone know if you can fix this?
    THank you

Yes I tried this manyfold. But did not work.  Reading on, I took Tesserac's advice. Shut down router and computer.
Start router after 15 minutes and wait another 10 minutes before starting the computer.
Et voila.... everything is back in working order,

  • Accessing discoverer viewer over internet

URL's host name is changed when i am clicking to expand report link for work sheet selection. I have installed Oracle 10g AS and discoverer and trying to access work sheets over internet using discoverer viewer.

    Hello Michael,
Thank you for your response. I did not changed fully qualified domain name. I am trying to access the discoverer viewer from outside of our LAN through internet. I have configured firewall to allow HTTP trafic to exposed server and mapped public IP and port to local discoverer server (port forwarding) to route discoverer viewer requests to discoverer server. Discover server is in our local domain with local IP address. I am able to view the viewer login and Worksheet list page with public IP in discoverer URL. When i am clicking to expand worksheet in worksheet list page, viewer changes the IP address part of URL to local host name. This local host name is not resolved outside and IE shows the 'Page Not Found' error. Pl suggest the way to resolve this issue.
    Thanks,
