Securely share iCal among family members

Hi:
We have a family MobileMe membership.
I would like to securely share calendars between us.
Specifically, can my wife and I each access AND modify various calendars that are securely stored somewhere on our MobileMe account?
I have heard horror stories about folks publishing calendars that were supposedly secure, but all nefarious individuals needed to do was guess the mobileme userid and the calendar name, and then use that info to burglarize homes when people noted that they were on vacation.
Thus, we'd like a password protected setup on MobileMe where we can each access and modify the calendars, i.e., not just read info published by the other.
Ideally, we;d like to be able to do this from both our iPhones and our Macs
Is this possible?
Much appreciated!

I would also like to know if this is possible.

  • Sharing Music among family members

I want to know if there is a way to share music among family members, other than the share music function in preferences, who use the same Mac but signed in under different accounts?
My wife, daughter, and my self have different user accounts set up on the same Mac. I would like us all to share the same Music Library in order to save harddrive space. As it is now we each have a different library, which we can listen to music with the sharing function in preference. But I want one common Library that we can all access all our music through our individual accounts and be able to add music to each of our iPods though our accounts. I hope I made my self clear enough.

    John hello,
to add a bit more to what macmenno has told you... here is an interesting variation that gives you great freedom of choice but still only one data library base....

  • Ical multiple family members need alarms sent to each phone

I have ical with seven different calendars (family members. all color coded) is there a way to attach different emails to each calendar? so I can set up the alarm function to text via email
ie. ([email protected]) them. I have it set up in my address book under my "own card" It would be so much easier if I could attach their "text email" address to their separate calendars.
Is there a way to do this?

    I don't think so.

  • Family Sharing Calendar not "sharing" events among family members

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone has a similar issue and can shed some light.
I've setup a Family with myself as the organizer.
We have 2 iMacs, 1 MacBook Pro, 3 iPhones, and 3 iPads used by my three family members.
The "Family" calendar now shows up on all devices but events made on a single device are not showing on any of the other devices.
I've read all I can find and it appears to me that the "Family" shared calendar should sync across all family members without the need to "share" the calendar as we did in the past.
Can anyone confirm that is the case?
As a quick fix I simply "shared" the Family calendar (using email address's of the family members) and it is working, but this is essentially the same way we used to share a calendar.  Just doesn't seem to make sense to me.
Thanks in advance for any insight!
    Jim

I am having the same problem. I have done some testing and have found the following:
If I create an event in the Family Calendar on my Mac it shares it with all devices; however, if I create a new event in the Family Calendar on any of my iOS devices it doesn't share with any of my devices including my Mac. This has only been an issue since I upgraded to iOS 8.1.
I hope someone can help clarify if this truly is an iOS 8.1 issue and when they might come out with another update. This is a big problem for families trying to stay up-to-date with each others schedules.
    Thanks.

  • Can I share books between family members with different Apple IDs?

I am trying to share books within my family as we were always able to do with home share in iTunes.  Is this possible? I can phisically move the book file, but must sign in as my Apple ID on my wire's system, effectively removing her library from her iBooks and replacing it iwth mine.  All I want to do is share the book I bought.  How can I do this?

Thanks for the link.  I looked at this and tried it and it sync'd my wife's iBook with my account, so she now had my Apple ID logged into her iBook.  I'd like to be able to share my iBooks with her, but add them to her library as we were able to do with Home Sharing in iTunes.  I want her to be able to use her Apple ID with iBooks, but be able to read some of the books I buy on my account.  Does that make sense?
    Thank you.

  • Share iCal among all the users on one iMac

I guess this is impossible, but I'll ask anyway. My family shares one iMac in the family room. We all have our own login profiles and we want to have a shared calender so we can see when and when we all have plans... Is this too much to ask for from a computer? I mean really, why is this so freaking hard to accomplish these days? We don't want .mac and we don't want to go on the web and use a calender... I've been trying to figure this out for what seems like eons... Help, please ???

  • Share iCal among 3 macs...but, by using one file on a server

I've read the other posts requesting a way to sync mutliple calendars. I want to do this but by maintaining ONE master calendar file somehow on a harddrive attached to my network. So no matter which computer that's attached to the network, I'd be able to open the same iCal file. No syncing necessary really. Anyone tried this?

With Tiger, in order to support Spotlight, there isn't really a "ical file" anymore. There are individual files for each event. The simplest way to achieve what you want is with the .Mac syncing. I use this across my Macs both at home & work.

  • How can you share books with family members?

I purchased a book in iTunes and it's on my library shelf. How can I share this book with my sister?

If she has access to your Apple ID she can have your iBook on her device.  If she syncs to the same computer, just sync it to her device.  If she syncs to a different computer, copy the book from your iTunes library onto a flas drive (you'll find it on your hard drive in iTunes>iTunes Music>Books; it's an .epub file), then authorize your Apple ID on her computer (iTunes>Store>Authorize this Computer), then add the book to her library (iTunes>File>Add to Library) where she can sync it to her device.

  • Silly question, but can you share apps between family members (iPhone)?

My wife has just purchased an iPhone awaiting del.
    Question
can you share your apps or not?
if she has her own apple id...
I would think not as I cannot seem to find anything to suggest it.
But thought i would ask the community.
and is there away around it??????????
    thanks again

EDIT: It seems Apple have changed the AppStore Terms and Conditions since I last read them thoroughly.
    Here's the relevant sections:
If you are an individual acting in your personal capacity, you may download and sync an App Store Product for personal, noncommercial use on any iOS Device you own or control.
You may auto-download iTunes Auto-Delivery Content or download previously-purchased iTunes Eligible Content from an Account on up to 10 Associated Devices, provided no more than 5 are iTunes-authorized computers.
(ii) An Associated Device can be associated with only one Account at any given time.
(iii) You may switch an Associated Device to a different Account only once every 90 days.
(iv) You may download previously-purchased free content onto an unlimited number of devices while it is free on the iTunes Service, but on no more than 5 iTunes-authorized computers.

  • Syncing contacts and calendars among family members

My wife and I both have Air laptops, iPads, iPhones with our own account names and IDs etc.  We want to "sync" our contacts and calendars without merging or complicating other material (such as email).  How do we do that most easily?  When I approach iCloud or Internet Accounts under "preferences", all sorts of threats appear about eliminating everything....

  • Can I share icloud drive storage between family members?

I am looking for easy offsite storage that can be easily accessed.  I have been reading a bit about the icloud drive, and it seems simple to add and open files. Can I share the storage with my husband and his computer or not?  We currently use carbonite as a backup program. Would icloud drive replace that?
    Thank you.
    Katie

iCloud Drive is tied one AppleID.  If you want to share it, all family members would have to use the same Apple ID.
The only Family Sharing Apple Supports for family members with different AppleIDs is sharing your purchases: iTunes items, iBooks, AppStore Purchases,  see:   http://www.apple.com/icloud/family-sharing/
But iCloud Drive cannot be shared between different AppleIDs, and it is also not meant to be a cloud backup. It is used to store your current working copies of your most important documents, that you need on all devices, and keep the documents updated on all devices.

  • Securely publishing iCal calendars via .Mac

i want to securely share (publish/subscribe) calendars among just the members of my family. we share a .Mac family account with a Shared iDisk folder that is, in theory, for our exclusive use.
if i publish to .Mac, it appears the calendars are viewable by anyone with the correct URL, not just my family.
if i try to publish to a Private Server using the URL for the .Mac Shared folder (Base URL: http://idisk.mac.com/myaccountname/Shared), the required Login: account name intrudes into the syntax for the pathname to the location. text box says "Publish failed for calendar "xxx". Could not create calendar on http://[email protected]/accountname/shared/calendarname.ics"
any ideas on how to securely share iCal calendars among family members on .Mac?
    thanks very much.

after a couple more hours of digging, i answered my own question.
here's a relevent article with the answer: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61725
the .Mac Family Pack includes an iDisk Shared folder to which all accounts (master account and up to 4 sub-accounts) have shared access. by substituting "Shared" for "Documents" in the URL pathname syntax in the article, i was able to publish calendars into the Shared folder. then, subscriptions were per the article except that any family member's account name and password provided access to the folder.
i think i just had the syntax wrong for publishing to begin with. i don't remember for sure, but i think i may have been using "www.mac.com" instead of "idisk.mac.com".
anyway, it appears to be working.

  • Sharing a photo book project with family members

I created and purchased a photo book in iPhoto and I'd like to share with my family members so they can also buy the book.  Is that possible?

You could reduce a copy of your library to just those photos in the book  with the book and send that smaller library. This tutorial describes how: #9 - Archiving an iPhoto 7(08)/8(09)/9(11) Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date.

  • ICal Color Coding for Family Members on on Master Calendar?

I have a very detailed ical calendar for all the family members' activities & would like to view them with a different color per person on one single calendar. I am not clear whether creating a calendar per person in a group will allow me to then merge them to see one master calendar. Perhaps I'm mistaken in how it works but I do not want to toggle between 5 calendars each time I need to schedule something. Is it even possible to see them all on one master calendar with the color for each person in their individual calendar retained on the master? Can they all be merged? It would take hours if not days to re-create them - I'd also like to be able to make them viewable by my husband. Thanks for the feedback!

    Greetings,
I have a very detailed ical calendar for all the family members' activities & would like to view them with a different color per person on one single calendar.
iCal allows you to add multiple calendars (check boxes). Each calendar can have it's own color. Any event added to that calendar will have that color.
I am not clear whether creating a calendar per person in a group will allow me to then merge them to see one master calendar.
If you want to see all the calendars at once to see where events overlap, etc. you check off all the check boxes and you see all the events at once.
In your scenario you would make 1 calendar for each person. Each calendar can be assigned it's own unique color. When you want to see what everyone is doing you just check off all the check boxes to turn on all the calendars at once so you can see the events all together (Holding down the command key which is the clover leaf or Apple key and then clicking on a check box will turn them all on / off in one shot.)
The "Master" calendar as you say is iCal with all the calendars checked.
    Can they all be merged?
If you have individual calendars (check boxes) and you would like to combine them you can do so by clicking on the calendar you want to merge and going to File > Export > Export. Save the resulting file to desktop. Go to that saved file and double-click. iCal will ask you where you want to put the events from that calendar. Choose the calendar you want to merge with and it will add all the events in.
I'd also like to be able to make them viewable by my husband.
You can share your calendars in a variety of different ways. In iCal go to the help menu and type in "Giving others access to your calendars" for a listing of options.
    Hope that helps.
