The "Encrypt All Document Contents Except Metadata" option is useful when the PDF document being encrypted might be searched with a tool that examines XMP metadata.
For Acrobat, neither Adobe PDF iFilter nor the Find or Advanced Search commands in the Acrobat application examine a PDF document's XMP metadata.

With Adobe X, how can I set the same security settings for all documents? I'm doing it per document via password security now. In an earlier Adobe version, I only needed to set the options once and all the documents I created after that had all the same security settings. Thanks

I'm using Word 2003 and Acrobat 8 Standard (8.1.3) with Acrobat PDFMaker 8.1 for Word. I set the preferences as I show:
When I convert a single word file, it works right. But if I use the mailmerge option, it doesn't get the security options and the created PDF files are editable at all. Any suggestion?

Security issues with password retrieval

Anyone who comes in physical contact with a mac can open and edit as desired, theadmin users that already exist on the machine. I wonder if there is someone who hasa proposed security measures around this problem?
For example, if a company wants to use mac, but want to give users limited access sothey can not mess around in the operating system or delete the programs that are required by the company to have on your machine. What measures could be used toachieve this? How can you prevent that other than the designated administrator can add users with admin privileges?

My above reply prevents them from doing this 100% as the startup key combination to enter those commands is ignored.
I forgot to add that you should set the root password as well. Easiest to do with the utility on the OS install disk. Just make it different from the other admin passwords on the machine.

Securing contacts with password

Is there any way to secure my contacts, notes, tasks etc with a password. Obviously I know I can password the phone, but if I lost my phone and someone rang it, whoever had my phone would find it unlocked (because someone has rung).

It wouldn't be unlocked, it would still remain locked and they would need the password to unlock it. I believe the person would only be able to answer an incoming call

Save a PDF document with password via BSP

Hello,
I am using the code following code to show a PDF via BSP:
response->set_header_field( name = 'content-type'
value = 'application/pdf' ).
some Browsers have caching probs when loading PDF
response->set_header_field(
name = 'cache-control'
value = 'max-age=0' ).
l_pdf_xstring contains PDF data
l_pdf_len = XSTRLEN( l_pdf_xstring ).
response->set_data( data = l_pdf_xstring
length = l_pdf_len ).
navigation->response_complete( ).
Now I need that a password will be required before to show the PDF.
At the same time, this PDF should be saved with a password.

The reason for the numerous implementations of 3rd-party tools to encrypt PDF (that is to say, add a user password) is that Adobe publishes the documentation.
If you want to implement it yourself in your BSP application, I would greatly advise having a look at this : http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/pdf/PDFReference16.pdf

Version displayed despite security on with password for remote listener

I've setup the password for my remote listener, trying to show status or services of the remote listener will failed with error saying listener has not recognized the password. However, this does not happened to the version command.
Any idea how to prevent the version from displaying? the listener version is 10.1.0.4

What's,with,the,commas?
If you have a tablet that runs full Windows 8 - not Windows 8 RT, which is limited.
And if you install the full Adobe Reader for Windows, not the special Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8.
Then you will have the same features as a desktop.
Unless they can't be accessed in touch mode, since it isn't a touch app.

Encrypt with password- Help

I created a pdf, used Advanced/Security/Encrypt with Password. I did not provide a password.. Acrobat must have. How do I find or fix?What did acrobat use to create the password? I was expecting a prompt. Next thing I know its protected with an unknown pw? Help.

It is looking for a 'permissions password'. I did not provide one. My bad here it seems.

It's impossible not to enter a password when applying protection using that menu item. Acrobat wouldn't make one up and will not accept a blank entry on the dialog box.
Are you sure you didn't apply a previously-created Security Policy, in which you chose to store the password inside the policy?

How do I send/email Documents with high security and password protected

I want to send Documents securely to my clients. What product do I need and how do I send/email with password protection? I recently purchased Adobe Send but not sure this was the right product needed to send my documents securely?

In Acrobat you can create a Portfolio in which your documents (any types) will be placed as attachments and encrypt the whole portfolio. You can also create a small PDF, possibly with explanation what is in it, attach your files to it, and encrypt this PDF. In this case you can encrypt attachments only, so that the user can open the shell PDF but to extract the files would need to know the password.

There is something called (I think) iText which can handle PDF documents. No idea whether it includes a printing facility or not.

How are you connected to the internet? Are you behind a particularly secure corporate firewall? Are you on Mac or Windows? Do you have any anti-malware software running on your machine that may be preventing applications other than your browser from connecting to the internet?
You may try to follow the steps below:
1.Close the Creative Cloud application.
2.Navigate to the OOBE folder.
Windows: [System drive]:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE
Mac OS: /Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE folder
3.Delete the opm.db file.
4.Launch Creative Cloud.

Is printing possible with script after the document with a password to prevent printing??

I saved a pdf with a password to prevent printing. When I open the pdf with Adobe Reader, I want print the document with automatic.

When combining files, conversion keeps failing with red notice that the document if password protected. What does that mean and what do I do?

You can check the same under 'File > Properties> Security

I mean, is there any way to save a file you just edited, with a password or something that prevent other people to access that file without a password?
I am on iWork on trial version, to test if I change to iWork or keep Office 2008 for Mac.
I used to save a file on Office (PC version) with a security option, two passwords, one for read the file and other for editing the file.....is there any way to do that on Pages 09?

Yes:
+Inspector > Document > Document > Require password to open+
Just be aware that is not the same security as with MsWord. In other words they can not open each others secure documents.

On the File menu, click Save As.
On the Tools menu, click General Options.
Do either or both of the following:
If you want users to enter a password before they can view the workbook, type a password in the Password to open box, and then click OK.
If you want users to enter a password before they can save changes to the workbook, type a password in the Password to modify box.
NOTE   Unlike passwords you specify in the Password to open box, passwords you specify in the Password to modify box are not encrypted. These passwords are only meant to give specific users permission to modify workbook data. For optimal password security, it's best to assign both passwords. An encrypted password to access the workbook, and one to provide specific users with permission to modify its content. IMPORTANT   Use strong passwords that combine uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Weak passwords don't mix these elements. Strong password: Y6dh!et5. Weak password: House27. Use a strong password that you can remember so that you don't have to write it down.
If you want to use a different encryption type, click Advanced, click the type you want in the Choose an encryption type list, and then click OK.
If needed, specify the number of characters you want in the Choose a key length box.
NOTE   Document property encryption is enabled by default for most encryption types and providers. It prevents unauthorized users from viewing summary and custom file properties (such as the author or any custom file information) in theProperties dialog box. When users right-click the password-protected file, and then click Properties, information won't be available on the Summary tab and Customtab. Authorized users, however, can open the file and view all file properties (Filemenu, Properties command). To disable document property encryption, clear theEncrypt document properties check box.
Click OK.
When prompted, retype your passwords to confirm them.
Click Save.
If prompted, click Yes to replace the existing workbook.
NOTE   You can also secure a workbook with a password on the Security tab of the Options dialog box (Tools menu, Options command).
