After upgrading to Yosemite, I was eager to try the new FaceTime features in iMessage and FaceTime. The upgrade migrated all my settings as expected. Setting up iCloud services on my Mac and iPhone, I was able to receive calls on my Mac but not initiate calls from my Mac. I would get the Dialog message which said both Mac and iphone must be on the same Network. Well, they were both on the same Network, with identical iCloud accounts, contact phone number and iCloud email addresses. I still could not initiate a call from my Mac. I knew I had Firewall Turned but not hearing any mention I would need check my Firewall settings it took me a while to move in that direction. I deselected Block all my incoming connections and selected the Automatically allow signed software option. This solved my issue with FaceTime and I was able to initiate call from my Mac.
I am not a security expert, but this appears to be a downgrade in security. Is this in reality the case? I'm hoping someone more knowledgable than I could elaborate on the difference in the two options offered in Firewall and why Block All incoming Connections ( except essential internet ) allowed me to receive calls on my Mac but disallowed calls "from my Mac".

The System Info below your post indicates that you are running OS X 10.5.8. The FaceTime Beta requires a minimum of OS X 10.6.4.

Can't verify email address for receiving messages in Messages and FaceTime

In the Preferences for Messages you can set additional email addresses that others can use when sending Messages and FaceTime messages. Apple sends a verification email to the email addresses you add. I have been able to complete this process for three out of four email addresses. Two of those I added today.
The address I use the most, my long-time email address with my ISP Verizon, repeadedly fails in the process. First, the Preferences panel says 'Email sent'. Then it says 'Waiting to verify' with a link to Details. Apple's verification message never arrives in my Verizon mailbox.
At one time (pre-Mavericks?) this email worked with Messages and FaceTime, it is the address I use for iTunes purchases. I have checked the Verizon email site for Spam or blocked email addresses. Nothing there.
Any magic you can suggest?

It does seem strange that the email works in one place and not another.
Having said that I have had an email as an Apple ID in the past then the security requirements have changed and whilst it works in some places it often needs you to verify for use in a new place.
Whilst any login to any Apple Service does check the ID and password with a central database each service is run on it's own servers.
this leads to some almost two step issues where an ID already in use is not asked to up it's security but a new app can be almost blocked.
If you go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and use the Manage option to login to that ID is it showing Verified there ?
AS an Apple ID was there a a recovery email that was linked to it ?
Do you still have access to that ? It might be where the email was sent.

App-specific passwords: are they required for the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime?

I was recently prompted to generate app-specific passwords for iMessage and FaceTime on my Mac. The process went reasonably smoothly, but after doing this I wondered whether I'll need to do the same on my iOS devices.
The Apple Support page Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support offers no clues about which Apple apps require them and on which devices.
As a test, I tried signing out of iMessage on my iPhone, and signing back in with my regular Apple ID password, not an app-specific one. This worked fine, therefore I assume the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime do not need app-specific passwords.
On the other hand, I've read some of the articles which state that the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime will require app-specific passwords:

Does this mean that app-specific passwords have simply not been "rolled out" to my devices yet, and we'll be prompted to generate app-specific passwords on iOS at some random time in the future?
If so, that's a problem for non-technical users in my household on whose behalf I look do setup and security. It will effectively mean iMessage will stop working for them, until I can take a look at the issue. This is not always something that can be done quickly if we're in different locations.
If I pre-empt the roll-out by visiting https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage/security and generate and install an app-specific passwords for them anyway, before the prompt appears, will this work?

App-specific password for iMessage and FaceTime required?

This morning somehow I was asked to generate an app-specific password for both iMessage and FaceTime on a Mac Mini that I use occasionally. Fair enough. Completed the process. After a while I noticed that FT and iMessage were logged out of my iPad, and it asked to generate an app-specific password. Does FT and iMessage now require an app specific password? So the Apple ID/password are no longer enough? I can understand the need for this with third party apps, but with Apple apps? Can someone please confirm if as of today iMessage and FT need an app specific password in order to work with 2 step verification?

Nothing will work, it keeps saying activation turn on Wi-Fi when my Wi-Fi is turned on. As soon as I got this on Christmas. iMessage and FaceTime have not been working. My Apple and ID password are correct. Everything else is working fine. My iOS updates are up to date, everything is fine except FaceTime and iMessage

We have three Ipads in our house. We have one itunes account with multiple devices like two Iphones and Apple TV. My question is about our three Ipads. How can I set up the imessaging and facetime on all three devices while only using one Itunes acct

Okay. We have three Ipads in our house with only one Itunes account. When I go into imessaging and facetime on each of the devices, it wants to start switching my wife's cell phone and then the three emails associated with each Ipad to the contact information for all of the Ipads. As of this morning, only the imessaging and facetime are turned on my wife's iphone and ipad. My kids imessaging and facetime is turned off. Do you really have to have an itunes account for each device to make then work??? Any help would be very much appreciated.

There is only one solution. Each user must have their own separate user account. All of their respective data would be contained in their separate user accounts. This also means each will have a separate iTunes Library. If you all use the same third-party apps, then each will have to purchase their own copies under their own Apple IDs. Some data sharing is possible. See:

Security and/or filtering error in data form creation

I am getting this error when I am trying to preview my data form.
This is the first time I am creating an application and data form in Hyperion.
The data form is multicurrency and plan type is Plan1.
Row:

Disabled all options in "Other options" and Not selected any business rukes.
When selecting preview data form I am getting below error:
Security and/or filtering has resulted in a required dimension not being represented on this data form
I have not selected any security/filter settings as of now. Please suggest whats causing this.

Hi Jake,
I did what you suggested,but I am still getting same error.
Here I would like to point out that. I have selected my application to support multicurrency, but 'HSP_RATES' does not come in Dimension selection drop down. I can see 'HSP_RATES' in Performance settings tab, but I cant see it in Dimensions tab or Evaluation order tab.
Is this causing problem? Should I add it manually?

Why my iphone's iMessage and Facetime can't be activated?

hi, I just bought an iphone4 from the Mississauga apple store two days ago, the iMessage and Facetime can't be activated, so these things are what I tried: (my SIM card matches with my iphone, have a valid carrier, and I paid my bill and have a valid phone number)
1. I connected my iphone to the wifi, and make sure it works,
2. created an account on apple store, and make sure it has been logged on,
3. logged that e-mail account that I used to creat apple account on to my iphone ---> Mail,
4. go to Settings ---> iMessage, and turned it on, and did whatever it told me to do, then it just saying:"Waiting for activation..." for 2 or 3 hours, and told me that activation failed, and the same thing goes with the Facetime.
I tried with each of them 3 times, none of them are working, so I give up, and asked my friend use to working at the ginues bar in an apple store to help me, so:
He download iTunes onto my PC, connected my iphone to my PC, and logged my apple account onto iTunes, then did the PC and iphone thing which I don't really understand, and redo what I did above, and my iMessage and Facetime still can't work, and use he's iphone to call mine with facetime, use mine to call his with facetime, none of the calls worked.
At the end, we even dialed #*5005*7672# to check the SMS service centre number.
***BTW, I CANNOT even send text messages to my friends, I can only call them.
Is there anything else I can try to make the iMessage and facetime working? Or should I just go to the store and ask for an exchange or refund?
T_T, I just can't believe I can't even send out text messages with the iphone which even the unsmart phones can do.

Turn iMessage and FaceTime off, reset the device by holding both buttons until the apple logo appear then let go and wait for it to restart. Then turn iMessage and FaceTime back on and enter the settings again

My iphone 5 wont let me sign into imessage and facetime!

I recently bought a iphone 5 from my aunt. I went to AT&T to go activate and switch over phones. (I had a iphone 3gs). I later went home and tried to log into my imessage and facetime, but it wouldnt let me. I keep trying and it says "iMessage Actavation - Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try agian". I have wifi so my internet can not be the problem & and my internet on my phone works great. One thing to remeber , this issue occurs because of poor wifi or internet connection. If this isn't fault in your case, try these because it happens in all products of apple like mac,ipad mini,ipod touch..
Check you apple id and sign in again.
Change you DNS to open DNS or Reset you network settings.
Reboot you iphone once.

I'm guessing it's a compatibility problem similar to that that T-Mobile in the US has. I'm not familiar with chat-r wireless, but I'm guessing it's not a supported carrier for the iPhone. If they can't tell you how to fix it, I'm guessing it's just plain not going to work.

I am having a problem with my iphone 4s "To finish setting up iCloud, iMessage, and FaceTime enter the apple ID password..."

I was using my iphone just like any normal day and out of blue it went off because I let the battery die
it was 1% and I didn't put on charger, I forgot
so I put it on charger just like any normal day and it charged for sometime then it started to turn on
suddenly I got a weird screen on it a pic "iOS 6" and slide button saying "slide to set up" with all languages

and when I click on start using iphone, the iphone restarts itself and repeats the steps again !!!!!

weird, i would try to restore through iTunes and set up as new as a test.

Logicboard replacement came with new serial that stops me from connecting w iMessage and FaceTime. Applecare ran out and now I am sure it is this issue... How can I get apple to honor the serial mess up?

The story is that I have an imac i7 that was still under Applecare when the logicboard coraked.
I brought it in for repair and got it back. Somehow imessage and facetime would never connect anymore and come up with connection errors yet everything else worked. I tried all tens or hundreds of suggestions over hte last few months and nothing worked.
So I resorted to a clean hard drive repartitioning and install of Mountain Lion.
To my surprise: it sill did not work.
That;s when I found an obscure post that I am quite certain is the problem: the poster had the exact some symptoms I had and NOTHING worked. Hrs of phone support etc. Until it dawned on him that he had a logic board replacement after which the issue occurred. He found that his serial was no longer the same as the original item and came up as invalid on the apple website and was not listed in the "About" of his iMac.
I immediately recognized the recent support symptom and motherboard replacement and checked the rest. And behold it is all exactly as he said. He had to bring it back to the service center and they put the original serial back in and everything worked again.
Here is my problem: months of troubleshooting have passed and my iMac went out of Applecare warranty. Support does not warrant an exception for the serial online and the service center wants to get paid I am not wealthy. This computer is my life and I need them to change the serial back to what it was when I purchased the machine. Can someone suggest how I get help. Apple is acting like M-soft in this respect.

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...
