Security bypass in Firefox

Hi all, some advice / explanation would be useful:
I have set up a report server with a few users to access and am currently in the stage of building up it's security.
All users have varying permissions and in IE everything seems good, i have a folder with shared datasets as exemplaries that can be accessed and viewed/opened in Report Builder by my 'SUser' Role, but it then blocks the user from making the changes and hence
overwriting the original with the intention of the 'SUser' making this Dataset their own and saving it to their own my reports section.
In IE this is fine; I open the file, attempt to save it and i'm presented with an error - as expected.
However in firefox; I open the File , attempt to save it and it overwrites the existing file - no error displayed.
Could you advise if this is a fundamental limitation of SSRS in Firefox or something else is happening with the authentication methods?
Many thanks
BigFudge

Hi BigFudge,
Per my understanding that you put the shared datasets in the "My Reports" Folders and only the "SUser" role have the permission to use it, other user who haven't grant any permission to this folder will not able to use the shared dataset
in report builder, now the issue is that the permission setting works fine in IE but not in firefox, right?
Gernerally, user permission will work fine ignore what type of the broswer you are using. I have tried to understand your issue and tested on my local environment, but still have some question. Could you please give more details information accroding to
the question below:
Please provide the permission setting of all the roles.
You have mentioned that when one "SUser" role are using the shared dataset and other user will can't do any action to this dataset, Is that mean other user in the "SUser" group or other user who don't grant any permission will not able
to do any action to this dataset, did you also put the shared datasource to this folder?
Please find details information about the limitation support of browser and permission of "My Report":

If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • Using latest version of fireFox to access Think Central, pages will not load and they say that this is a security issue with FireFox?

Teachers in our district are supposed to use www.thinkcentral.com with FireFox.
Some have no problem accessing the lesson plans.
Most when they login click on a lesson plan and an icon shows up that says loading but never does.
If you reboot the computer and login you can open a page once but not a second time and no other lessons will open.
Think Central support says this is a security issue with Firefox.
I have updated FireFox, all the Adobe, Reader, Flash, Air and Shockwave. As well as Java.
I have allowed the pop ups to the think Central web site.
    Any help would be appreciated

Are there any notification icons on the left end of the address bar? If so, please click them to see whether they related to security issues (such as blocked content - shield icon: [[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]) or a plugin requiring permission (Lego-like icon).
Does Think Central have any help pages about this issue? Without an account, it is difficult to explore the issue first-hand.

  • I want Firefox to restore my McAfee security deleted by Firefox 5

I accepted Firefox 5 last night, but after it was almost installed the screen said McAfee securit 3.3.1 was incompatible. I tried to click off the installation, but it installed anyway, so now I have NO SECURITY. If Firefox cannot get me update, or orient me on how to do it, I want my previous version of Firefox restored. I don't want to use the Internet without my security server. I have been waiting for about 12 hours now. Please resolve ASAP. Thank you if there is anybody who can do something instead of just chatting and chatting (or not saying anything).

Okay, first of all you should relax a bit. Just because your McAfee security plugin is disabled because it's not made for firefox 5 doesn't mean that your computer is in danger. This is just a browser plugin we're talking about here.
Next thing you should probably contact McAfee support if they have an update available that works with firefox 5.
If you want further help here you should try to explain your problem a bit more detailed, like what exactly this plugin is, what it does and where you got it from.
    Best regards

At least twice a day I get a pop up window alerting me to the need to install a security update for Firefox 25.0.1. I have installed it several times and still I am prompted to install it again. I have received no response from Mozilla on this issue. I had sent in an email about this several days ago.

  • Please explain something strange that happened when I elected to receive an important security update to firefox. Thank You!

I got a notice (pop up) saying I needed an important security update to firefox, so I did it, but it ran for a really long time, and then I saw on the lower action bar that it was transferring information from or to l.collective-media.net; Why?! I "x'd" off the screen quickly; Please explain this too me, thank you.

Sorry I gave this a 'this helped me' but after a long struggle I found some ticked box somewhere from some unauthorised chrome extension blaaa....... the link you gave was great, not only did it confirm all the bad things google is supposed to be up to it provided a better browser. Cheers man.
Anyone who find this; I disabled all extension in chrome. I then searched the word proxy in the settings section. A button came up, "change proxy settings" I clicked on it. Earlier it was greyed out as an extension was interefering.. It brought up a box with my own settings from my computer. Then I clicked LAN settings, then unchecked the 'Use a proxy server' button.
P.S. If you're using chrome, bail, and dowload Komodo Dragon. It's virtually identical, but you're not tracked, and you can use chrome extensions, and you can quickily transfer your chrome preferences into it.

  • I would like to run the most secure version of firefox on my computer, but my computer does not meet the system requirements for the latest version

i would like to run the most secure version of firefox on my computer, but my computer does not meet the system requirements for the latest version. is there a way i can have the security of firefox 8 and still be able to run it on my old computer. i currently an running firefox 3.6. it is a bit slow, but it is functional.

Currently Firefox 3.6.24 is as secure as Firefox 8.0.1 is. Firefox 3.6.x will continue to get security updates until next spring, although the exact date hasn't yet been determined.
Which of the system requirements are you lacking? <br />
Processor wise you're stuck with what you got, but RAM can be upgraded. WinXP is still supported in all versions of Firefox and will be continued to be supported until Windows drops support for WinXP sometime in 2014.

  • Denied access to update security features of Firefox When i attempt to move update to apps it says i do not have permission..

There was a security message from Firefox that my firefox security was not protected. Idownloaded the program and attempted to move it to apps download but was denied permission.
I much prefer Firefox to Safari but am stumpted. Can any one help?
    thanks mary

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

  • Please show me what to do per the security upgrades re firefox and ie7

Hi, I didn't know where else to post this. I am just a home user. I have both Firefox 3.0 and Internet Explorer 7. I have windows premium home VISTA.
I recieved the notice (portion below) and the instructions at sun links contained do not give directions which show explicitly what to do regarding each as pertains to BOTH firefox and ie7 browsers, at least in the first one which is all I read and then I registered here for help.
It mentions firefox then shows nothing in what to do for firefox in the first one.
So, can someone please give me step by step on each line item link; what to do to protect my system as regards this latest security notice?
The links are below this text, and I just need a walk thru how to protect my sys as regards the below security notices; exactly what to do for both ie7 and firefox, and my windows is VISTA. Thanks so very much!
I am just a home user with no idea about java as well new to firefox (i use both browsers) as well.
    Again, thank you..

From a quick glance it seems like a list of vulnerabilities fixed in the latest Java releases.
Just make sure that you've got the latest version of any Java Runtime Environment that you have.
So if you've got Java 6, make sure it's Update 7.
If you've got Java 5, make sure it's Update 16.
You should get the updates automatically, if you don't want to wait for that, just go to [http://www.java.com/] and follow the instructions.
If you've got any earlier versions, get rid of them ;-)Hi, thanks for replying,
I am trying to understand what I need to do. In the first link in the vulnerabiliity list, the link by sun, when go in there, speaks of uninstalling which brings me here:
    http://java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_java.xml
Please note that the uninstall at that page does not include VISTA.
    I have Vista
Is there another link for uninstalling JAVA which works on Vista?
    Thanks!

  • On the Washington Post website, when I try to click on an article, I get the message, "Invalid URL". I don't have this problem with other Web sites. I recently upgraded to the secure version of Firefox.

I never had this problem before. I don't know if it's related to now having the secure (HTTPS) version of Firefox. Some WaPo links DO work, but most don't. One other thing: at least once when I Googled "The Washington Post" and clicked on the apparent result, I got a message saying that the certificate was "Not Trusted" and that legitimate Web sites did not ask me to override this issue and proceed to the site. Yet the website I'm trying to use is "www.washingtonpost.com", which I know for a fact is THE Post Website. What's going on, and how can I fix this? Thanks.

  • I keep getting the following error message: "Could not initialize the application's security component." Firefox then crashes when I try to enter a secure website. Help?

The exact error message is: "Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features." I am on a MacBook and have been using Firefox for years without any problem until now.

Can you access other apps? Can you acess the internet? Can you access applications that use internet besides facebook?

  • I cannot download software or export secure Certificate from Firefox, but can with Internet Explorer. This is crucial for meeting a deadline with an international patent Filing Today. Pls help - 555-555-5555. Sheldon

I tried to download an e-filing client software from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) website [http://www.wipo.int/pct-safe/en/download/download_client.htm] using Firefox. Clicking the link to download yielded no activity. I eventually tried the same link in internet explorer and it worked. This occurred last week. I have a deadline to complete an international patent filing today; and in order to do so online, I had to request a Secure Digital ID from WIPO. It was approved and received early this morning (Central European Time Zone); and the accompanying guidelines suggested that I use the same computer and browser to retrieve the ID. This meant that since I use Firefox as my default browser my request was also made and had to be retrieved in Firefox. Following the WIPO support instructions I ran into exactly the same problem of inactivity when trying to "Backup" my newly installed ID certificate per WIPO instruction, so that it may be imported into the e-filing software. Please help as soon as you can as my patent deadline is merely hours away. Please also see a response from the WIPO helpdesk below:
    Dear User,
we hereby provide the following solution / answer to your request:
Subject: Certificates (use of and different types)/26708 Answer from PCT-SAFE Help Desk:
Unfortunately, apart from revoking your new certificate and then re-enrolling using Internet Explorer, I do not see many options.
We cannot do support for external software, like Firefox, but I had a quick glance at Mozilla's support side and it seems that you might be able to resolve your problem by starting Firefox in safe mode, and/or disabling all your Firefox extensions. I have to stress the fact that this is not a procedure tested and approved by the PCT-SAFE team.
As this is an extremely time-sensitive issue please also contact me by phone so that we can work through the solution in real-time. I can be reached at 555-555-555 - Sheldon

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Attempting to download from a secure server

Just to follow up on my findings. My last issue regarding the digital certificate was not at the time of initial download into Firefox, but my application required that I backup the certificate into a folder which can then be accessed to sign a submission generated by a third-party Client software.
After finally steering away from the digital signing route by opting for a non digital filing of my project, I later revisited the Firefox certificates list only to find that the 'Backup' button still didn't work or respond in any way whatsoever; however since I only had a single certificate on my list... I threw my hand up in the air and tried the 'Backup All' button... guess what - that worked!! My browser then navigated to a file browser which allowed me to save the certificate to a folder of my choice. Of course this was after the fact as my deadline had already passed and and I had the Administrator who initially granted my secure ID revoke it once I was blocked from downloading it by Firefox.
Just an update/FYI for y'all... But I'm not sure if this type of anomoly is due to a glitch on my computer or a glitch on the browser - but it certainly did catch me off-guard during a deadline.
