Security Camera with Green Light?

So I bought the notebook webcam for the main purpose of motion detection. Maybe I am not seeing it but it is hard to conceal that I am doing that with the bright green light always on. Is there any way to disable?

Michphoto48843,
No real way to disable this light, however you may be able to just cover it with a small piece of cardboard paper or something similar. Often a low tech solution will work as well as a high tech one.

hello, my eyesight issue happens occasionally, from time to time i run multiple apps that use the isight camera. when i close each app the isight camera's green light is still active. When that happens the only way to stop the isight camera is to reboot.
Is there a way to use activity monitor to identify and kill the process controlling the isight? My apologies in advance if this sounds windows (task manager) like.
    Thanks

(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

  • Is there a way to switch off by default the video on FaceTime? I only ever use this app for audio/calls and hate the video being on. I especially hate that if I leave the app open to receive calls it means the camera and green light are on.

My issue is that I can't find a way to have the camera switched off when the app is open and so this means if I want the app open all day to receive calls then the camera is going to be on the whole time. Even if it didn't potentially drain the battery, or add to the CPU usage or whatever else may cause any problems whatsoever (wheel of death!), I just don't want the camera on as I don't see myself ever wanting to use the video call feature but I would use the audio/call multiple times throughout the day to make and receive calls. The camera being on when the app is open is enough to prevent me from using the app. Also ever since seeing that episode of criminal minds where if you saw the green light on above the screen then it meant the killer was watching you!
Basically I just can't believe there isn't a way to disable the camera whilst having the app running. I know when initiating an audio call the camera goes away, but I would like the camera away the whole time. To me it just would make sense that if you click the video option then the camera is on, and if you click the audio option then the camera goes off. It just seems waaaaay to basic a thought for apple to have missed... Let's face it, we're not all as pretty as the people in the apple adverts and don't want to see our ugly mugs staring back as us when we work all day at our macs!

I have exactly the same concern. It seems it would be a simple fix for Apple to allow users to turn off the camera (and even the mic) while keeping FaceTime open -- especially now that it turns out FaceTime must remain open in order to send and receive iPhone calls on a Mac.
I like to think this new functionality of FaceTime will be baked into a future release of Yosemite, as the current setup has that not-quite-finished feel of a work in progress. In the meantime, there's nothing like a little piece of Post-It stuck over the camera to keep the NSA from watching your face as you type a post to the Apple Support Communities.

  • How do I connect camera in new BackBook Pro?  Face Time says no camera connected; green light above screen is on

How do I connect camera in new MacBook Pro?  FaceTime says no camera connected, yet the green light at top of display, by camera, is on.

Assuming you have set up your Preferences correctly in Skype, sometimes Skype doesn't seem to automatically trigger the camera. When that happens just click on the camera icon that appears at the bottom of the screen when making a call:

  • Airport Express with Green Light but won't connect to iTunes or Airtunes!

    Hi,
I've had my Airport Express for a while and have just set it up in my new house with an Orange Broadband wireless router.
I originally got it set up to play music from my Macbook to my Hifi (that's all I use it for) and it worked fine.
I have now been on holiday for 2 weeks and switched it off.
Now when I turn it on the green light is on however the Airtunes option doesn't appear in iTunes and the Airport doesn't show up anywhere on the computer.
I have reset and set it up again and it still doesn't work.
My wireless internet is working fine and the Airport light is constant green as normal however I can't use it for the reason I need.
I normally have issues with it but nothing I try seems to work for this.
    HELP!
    Thanks in advance
    Jem x

I've solved this by resetting my wireless internet connection at the box and then setting up airport express again.
I don't know whether that will help you.....

  • Re: Lorex Security Camera with Linksys WRT320n Setup Help

I setup a Lorex security camera system that allows for to view them via remote acces.  I am able to view them through the local network but not via outside network connection.  I believe lies within the network settings that i have in place.  I have tried to apply the port forwarding settings but still not able to.  If someone has this type of system setup or know where to point me I would appreciate the help.  The default web port is 80 and the TCP port 6100.

    1)  I assume that you have set your security camera to a fixed (static) LAN IP address  -- is this correct?
    2)  And that you are forwarding the appropriate port to that address   --  is that correct?
Rules for using fixed LAN IP addresses on Linksys routers:
With Linksys routers, a fixed (static) LAN IP addresses must be assigned in the device that is using the address. So you need to enter the fixed address in the computer , printer, or camera, not in the router.  This is the best way to assign a fixed LAN IP address.   In your WRT320N, there is an alternative method  --- you could use the "DHCP reservation" method to assign your camera the same fixed LAN IP address each time you boot up your network.
When using a Linksys router, normally, any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range (typically 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149), and it cannot end in 0, 1, or 255.  However, if you are using "DHCP reservation" your camera's address should be within the DHCP server range.
Therefore any fixed LAN IP address would normally need to be in the range of
    192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 or
    192.168.1.150 thru 192.168.1.254
assuming you are still using the default DHCP server range.
Also, in the computer, when you set up a static LAN IP address, you would need to set the "Subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0 and the "Default Gateway" to 192.168.1.1 and "DNS server" to 192.168.1.1
It is also important that no two devices on your network be set to the same static LAN IP address.
Also note that many cameras cannot use the proxy DNS server located at 192.168.1.1 .  In this case, enter your true Internet DNS server address (found in the router)  into you camera.

  • Ipod shuffle doesnt work!..just stays with green light..no music played.!

lik titles said..when i turn it on..it just has a green light on. and nothing plays

Daniel's response is probably a bit off; he's talking about the battery check light on the back of the unit, while I suspect you're referring to the LED status lights on the front.
Apple has had a specific solution for this program out for some time. Until the recent re-design it was listed directly on the iPod Shuffle Support Page but is now more difficult to find. Try working through the steps in the following KB article:

  • Security cameras with blue screen

I recently bought a couple of BNC PCI cards for an older computer that I'm using as a security system. the cards physically install just fine and are recognized as video0 and video1. My problem is whenever I attempt to view the cameras connected to these cards all I see is a blue screen whenever I opening Cheese or wxcam. I just recently bought a new BNC cable to test with, but I'm unsure of what other things I can try to get the video to work. The chips are recognized as bt878, and everything seems as though it's probably be detected as far as I can tell. I don't seem to get any error messages either. would anyone have any good ideas on how to troubleshoot this outside of buying more cables or cameras. The PCI cards in question are brand new.  Thanks in advance!!!

This seems like quite a serious security issue if keystrokes/commands can be entered on a locked system.
yes, it is. it is a known problem in leopard. it's fixed in snow leopard but unlikely to ever be fixed in leopard as leopard development has stopped.

  • MacBook Pro won't turn on even with green light on charger

i have a 2010 MacBook Pro. The battery has been permanently dead for years but it still turned on as long as I had the charger connected. Eventually the charger stopped working so I bought a new one. The light is green on the charger but the MacBook won't turn on now. I tried that reset thing as well as opening up the bottom and disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and that didn't worn either. I pressed the button on the side and there's green flashing lights so its definitely getting power it just won't turn on. I don't know what else to do at this point.

If so, a new battery may be the cure but bring the MBP to an Apple store genius bar for a definitive evaluation first.

  • Airport Express will not stop flashing amber light; Reset multiple times; Works for a second with green light and then resumes flashing amber

I bought an Airport Express to extend my Airport Extreme about a month ago. It worked great until 2 weeks ago it started flashing amber. I reset it and set it up via airport utility and it would work for a little while, with great connection, and then it resumes the flashing amber light. Here is the error message:
"This AirPort base station was unable to extend the wireless network. Make sure the wireless network you're trying to extend was set up and is working correctly, that you entered a matching wireless network password into this device, and that this device is in range of the wireless network."
The Airport Extreme is in working condition, in range, and entered in correctly. I do not understand how it can work great for a second and then stop.
    Thanks!

Power off both the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express
    Wait a few minutes
Power up the AirPort Extreme, and let it run a few minutes
Then, power up the AirPort Express
If you continue to have difficulty, ask Apple to replace the AirPort Express.

  • Cant access security cameras with ea6200 router

I have everythig hooked up. port forwarding is enabled on port 80. i can only access my cameras from within my network. if i go outside my network i cant get in.
    please help.
its like i cnt get passed the firewall

What are things you tried so far in accessing your camera remotely? Have you tried to type your public/WAN ip address and the port number (ex:  http://68.12.123.3:80) on the address bar? Try to verify as well which port is needed for your camera. There might be something else other than 80.

  • Can't get camera green light to turn off !

    Hello,
I hope this is the right forum to post this question, if not sorry and please direct me if you can to the correct area.
I have an 08 Macbook. Never had a problem with it since it's barely a year old. One thing I have noticed is that my camera's green light is ALWAYS on. I never run any apps that would use the camera, I have gone back made sure they were all closed, made sure that nothing was to open automatically in startup that would cause it to turn on as well. Yet it continues to persist. The strange thing is that when I open Photobooth the screen is black! I have no idea why this is happening.
I did some quick googling and the only way I can get it to turn off is to start my computer by doing command option p r.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can make it stop once and for all? I don't want my camera being on all the time and it freaks me out that there are no apps using it!
    Thanks

    Hi EZ Jim,
    I would consider iGlasses first.
Back ground app launched at Start Up but not listed in System Preferences > Accounts > Login items and available to all apps that can access the camera including a Web Browser.
Have not tried it Safari 4 and that Favourite pages bit that might hold Mebeam of Googlemail Chat page in the History.
The Screen Saver might be a bit of a stretch.
I am presuming that 1) he might have one and 2) it is not releasing the camera when not doing Screen Saving.
I am also presuming it might have a faulty idle time that makes the OS think the Screen Saver should be in view or possibly the time is set so short regular input is the only thing stopping the screen Saver from showing.
I am not sure many people would regard it as "an App" as such either, hence my phrasing.
The Nanny Cam stuff may be an app.
I have Evocam of the two we regularly mention and it can be hidden (Or set to Hide on using red Button).
That might need me to presume the computer is not shut down that often as it does not have an Option to add it to Login items on my Leopard Computer.
Whilst Hidden though, it can continue to stream.
This one was the furthest stretch.
So I thinks some are possibles.
Nanny cam is the most unlikely but depends on the app involved settings.
As part of the specs do suggest security then we have to consider some with access to the computer might look in the most obvious places first to see what was running, DOCK Login Items (I am not sure the Screen Saver I tried could push/stream/record or alert by email if movement was seen) but seeing Screen Saver set in System Preferences may not (should not) tell you that info.
(Says he dragging nanny cam stuff back into the picture )
Off to bed for me with so much Think Different stuff going on.
    Catch you soon.

  • T1114 4g router with security camera setup?

Has anyone been able to set up security cameras with the 4G LTE Broadband Router with Voice model T1114 ? I have been talking to Verizon, Foscam and Novotel and I am getting absolutely no where. I'd hate to have to keep my DSL service just because of my security cameras, but at this point it's looking like that may be a possibility. If anyone has a solution or guidance, I'd appreciate it.

    > is that a complicated work around or is it fairly simple?
Its simple in design, but could be complicated to configure and maintain depending on your network comfort level.  Considering your goal is to access cameras and not a PC you will need the assistance of an additional VPN router.  Setup the Jetpack(or USB modem) to act like a modem and link him to a VPN router with a wireless bridging feature.  From there you configure the VPN router to automatically connect to your desired VPN server as long as the Jetpack is online and providing a connection.
The setup would look something like this:
    - VZW ))) Jetpack ))) VPNRouter === Cam1
    - VZW ))) Jetpack ))) VPNRouter === Cam2
    - VZW ))) Jetpack ))) VPNRouter === Cam3
    - etc
If the cameras happen to be wireless then the VPN router should be able to accommodate those connections too, but I wouldn't recommend relying on wireless any more than you need to considering how much is going on already.
VPN connectivity is a feature on some more advanced home routers and can also be re-flashed on others with the use of custom firmware.  DD-WRT can enable this functionality for free if you happen to have a compatible router lying around that supports wireless bridging.  VZW does not offer any products for you that can do this so you will have to look elsewhere.
Wireless bridging is the process of connecting one router to another over WiFi.  On devices that support this functionality there is generally a mode called "Bridge mode", "AP mode" or something along those lines that can enable the configurations for you.  From there you would need to decide if you want the device to perform only as a bridge and Ethernet cable connect the cameras or perform a "repeater" function and rebroadcast the Jetpacks signal to the cams.
The goal being to get everything that requires remote access to automatically connect to the chosen VPN server.  That way whenever you want to remotely connect and view the cameras all you need is a way to connect to the VPN server where everything is resting.  All you should have to do from there is keep the Jetpack/USB modem online and everything else will take care of itself from there.
