Security Certificate Error

Hi. I have a Toshiba Notebook. For the last 6 months i have been getting this message on a few safe websites that i normally visit :- "There is a problem with this website's security certificate" The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority.  Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server"  My Date & time are correct. Anybody know why this is happening? It is quite frustrating.

IE11 is available for Windows 7, Clarence.
Windows 8.0 comes with IE10 installed. That may be upgradable to IE11 (on Windows 8.0). I don't see it here.
Here's a surprise. Microsoft says it's dropping support for Windows 8.1 unless the April 8 update is applied.
Information Regarding the Latest Update for Windows 8.1
Along those lines, It's conceivable that Microsoft will not support your Windows 8.0 in the future. You may need to return to Windows 7.

Can anyone explain what those yellow banners on the top of the screen that say "Internet Explorer blocks websites displaying content with security certificate errors, etc." mean and why they keep you our of certain websites and how you can get rid of them?  (Sorry for the run-on sentence/question.)
    Thank you!

    Thank you!
It means there is a problem with the sites security certificate.
There should be a "Continue to this website (not recommended)" message.  I would not recommend doing that unless it is a site you know and trust.
In IE10 you can not disable that feature.

  • Security Certificate Errors

My browser (IE) is telling me there are security certificate errors on Verizon Yahoo's new mail page.  Is anyone else seeing the same thing?
What is a security certificate error?  Is it really something with the Verizon Yahoo site?  Who is responsible for fixing it?   Verizon or Yahoo?  What are the consequences as far as my safety is concerned?  Could IE be in error?

Root certificates for Windows Vista and 7, are apparently more automatic,  That is something I only found out when checking for them see (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931125).  But are not for Windows XP or earlier.  I knew I was still seeing them but I still run XP as a virtual PC on My windows 7 computer.  Latest root certificates for xp came out in March.  For Windows XP run windows (or microsoft) update and look for root certificates in your optional fixes.  You should see Update for Root Certificates [March 2011] (KB931125)

  • Window 8.1 update & invalid security certificate errors

I set up my new PC 2 days ago running Windows 8.1. I was able to visit all websites, including secure ones, w/no issues via Firefox. Last night, suddenly I was unable to access many secure websites. These include Google (Gmail) & Ilines (email). Here is a copy of the Google error:
"mail.google.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)"
There is no button to bypass, as I have seen in the past. I tried deleting cert8.db which didn't resolve anything. I have also tried adding exceptions which also don't resolve the issue.
I searched support & found the link for the MS document (link below) indicating that FF & Windows Family Safety certificates are not playing nice.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2965142/en-us#appliesto
I tried to follow the guide, but when I get to step 6, there is no Microsoft Family Safety Certificate in the Trusted Root Certificates Authorities to export. For reference, I do not specifically have Family Safety enabled & am running my PC as admin, no other users. I personally have no use for this but it is my understanding that it cannot be uninstalled, either.
I have spent hours researching & making adjustments to different settings to no avail. It is frustrating enough setting up a new PC & transferring info w/out this extra hassle. Does anyone have any other suggestions? FF is my preferred browser, but if this can't be resolved I will need to use something else so that I can access these important websites.

Thanks for the feedback cor-el. Here are the results:
    1. Installed Kaspersky certificate per link= no change
    2. Turned off Kaspersky= able to log in to Gmail but not the other secure sites I am having probs with
    3. Booted in Safe Networking mode= able to log in to Gmail but not the other secure sites. Same blocking errors on Gmail, etc when returned to reg mode.
Just FYI, I get 2 different secure connection errors:
Gmail: "mail.google.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)"
Ilines: "Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to mail.ilines.net. Peer's certificate has an invalid signature. (Error code: sec_error_bad_signature)"

  • Help! Major "Security Certificate" Errors when browsing

The various Mac Forums I've tried have attempted to help (can post their solutions if needed), but none worked. My issue occurs on ALL of my home computers (MacBook and iMac using wi-fi) and ALL of my browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome).
    The problem:
    - Security Certificates: They pop up daily for Facebook mostly, but also Twitter. I will click Continue, which takes me to...
    - 404 Error/Page Not Found Error: After the Certificate error mentioned above, this happens. Mostly to YouTube. It will stay like this for a few hours. I've cleared cache, rebooted, etc. etc. Nothing works.
    - Images turn into little blue boxes with a question mark in them. **When this happens, it's an indication that a Certificate box will pop up out of the blue.
    - Even on Google.com, it will say: Invalid URL
The requested URL "/", is invalid.
    Reference #9.df260e6b.1336506889.420cf4f
So what can I do? It happens on both my Macbook Pro and iMac - both connected wirelessly to a Linksys router/cable modem. The router is
    Wireless-N Broadband Router
    WRT160Nv3
     with
    Firmware Version: v3.0.02

    1. Certificate warnings are there for a reason. Simply ignoring them and clicking continue is generally the worst you can do.
    2. For the a certificate warning, look into the certificate and post the details.
    3. What happens, if you connect the computer directly to the modem? Do you have the same problem?
    4. Download the latest firmware for your router and upload it to the router using the web interface at http://192.168.1.1/

  • Invalid security certificate error when connecting from office for iPad

    Hi,
I have Alfresco Community running on my NAS including the SharePoint protocol support and can access it from any desktop Microsoft Office application but when I try to "Add a Place" in any of the Microsoft Office for iPad apps I get the following
error message: "Cannot Connect to Site - The site doesn't have a valid security certificate." followed by "Cannot connect to Server - The server may be unavailable. Check your internet connection and try again".
    I have the following configuration
    - Qnap NAS with QTS 4.1.3
    - JRE 8.6.0
    - Tomcat 7.0.50
    - Alfresco 5.0.c with Share and SPP installed
    - Tomcat, Alfresco and Share configured for SSL on 8443 using a self-signed certificate
    - SPP configured for SSL on 7070
    - iPad Air 2, iOS 8.2 and latest office apps
    - CA and server certificate installed on the desktop computers and the iPad
Share and SPP can be reached on the respective ports and I get the websites as expected. And as mentioned desktop MS office applications can access Alfresco via SPP. But I cannot get it to work with the iPad office apps.
Can anybody help with this, please? I know I am not running SharePoint but I assume the problem with the iPad office app is the same?
    Thanks
    Peter

    1. I can't say if it is sequential or not, I have never seen a message like that myself when doing add-on update checks - but I have seen other messages, like the update server not using a secure HTTPS address after that became a requirement for updates. <br />
Plus, I have never used anything from Conduit - ''the founder of that company has a shady past with different internet companies puling all dorts of "stuff", IMO. And all Conduit add-ons were removed and banned from the official add-ons website a few years ago because of their "antics" and major user uproar at the time - just recently have we seen a few return''.
    2. Right-click individual addons and use ''Visit Homepage''' to see if that feature is being used as intended and where it takes you. Or use '''Find Update''' and see if that triggers that message, to discover which extensions are fro Conduit.
    3. IMO, you are better off updating each extension one at a time with '''Find Update''', as I mentioned above.

  • Website Security Certificate Error

I am trying to get on Facebook, as I do everyday, but when I do I get a message stating that there is a problem with the websites security certificate. Then when I click continue anyways it takes me to an OpenDNS page and says that the domain is blocked. I have updated my internet explorer and checked my date and time settings. Help!

    Hi there @wareagle04
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are seeing a problem with your security certificate for access to Facebook. For this sort of problem I would recommend contacting your ISP directly. (contacting Facebook is also an option, you can search for contact information if they need to get involved)
The problem could be related to your settings from the ISP or something on their end, or possibly the hardware.

  • There is a problem with the security certificate of the proxy server. Error code 18 and 38.

    Hi All,
After several hours and a short night of sleep I'm out of ideas and hopefully someone here can help me trying to solve this one. First of all the situation:
    Exchange 2013 on a remote location with a CA-certificate.
Outlook 2010 and 2013 on different locations, locally installed and on RDS.
When I open Outlook on my laptop all is fine, no errors, good sync, no problem. But when I open Outlook on our Remote Desktop Servers with Outlook 2013 I'm getting errors like "There is a problem with the security certificate of the proxy server. The
name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site. Outlook is unable to connect to this server. (Error code 18)". Opening Outlook 2010 the message is the same, but the error code now is 38.
After this Outlook opens and is working, there's one more error though. After a while an security warning pops up with the message: "Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the
site's security certificate. * The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust. View the certificate to determine whether you want to trust the certifying authority. * The security certificate is valid. * The name on the security
certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site."
Strangest thing is, it is the certificate of my RDS! It isn't my valid en officially bought certificate from my mailserver. What's going on? I'm out of options, what I've tried so far (in random order):
    - restarting mailserver and AD;
    - restarting switches;
    - restarting routers;
    - restarting RDS, AD and all other servers;
    - bypassed proxyserver for RDS;
    - created a new profile;
    - checked recently installed updates;
    - checked certificate on mailserver;
    - checked RDS on a different location, working fine.
Nothing helped, what can I do next? Please advice.
    Regards.

Found a thread that solves half my problem (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/70d18244-889a-4d95-ac3f-e234672a82b2/there-is-a-problem-with-the-proxy-servers-security-certificate-error-when-starting-outlook?forum=exchangesvrclients).
The first message can be suppressed by adding this to the Exchange config:
    set-outlookprovider -Identity EXCH -CertprincipalName msstd:webmail.domain.tld
    set-outlookprovider -Identity EXPR -CertprincipalName msstd:webmail.domain.tld
Giving the command get-outlookprovider, gives me empty information regarding the certprinipalname. Filled
this and after recreating the profile or deleting the ost-file I still have the second alert with the local certificate of my RDS.
Not completely where I want to be, any help regarding the second alert is greatly appreciated!

  • Site name) uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

I am working with Firefox 35.0 I get the security certificate error message of site name) uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer).
This happens on each page that I go to. I can pull the page up with no problem with Explorer. Please Help. I don't have any security software that would be stopping or scanning SSL.

Check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details" to expand this section.
If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the <b>issuer of the certificate</b>.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If <b>"I Understand the Risks"</b> is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.

  • How can I display content blocked by an invalid security certificate?

I am using Firefox 30.0 which I installed to replace IE8. I log in to my health insurance site. When I try to go to the Provider Directory Search (PDS), nothing happens. I thought the PDS might be a pop-up so I tried both making the web page a pop-up exception and then also just turning the pop up blocker off completely. Neither helped.
I then tried to access the same PDS page via IE8 and IE8 displayed a “Content was blocked because it was not signed by a valid security certificate” error page. Also, IE8 displayed a bar with options that allowed me to display blocked content regardless of the status of the security certificate. The PDS page then displayed.
I went back to FF30 and tried again. The PDS page did not display and no error message nor options bar was displayed. Next, I tried finding an option related to this problem. Options/Security had nothing for Security Certificates. Options/Advanced/Security seemed to deal with security certificates my copy of FF30 would provide to web sites and not the web sites certificates provided to me. I tried clicking on the “lock” icon of the page from which I should be transferred to the PDS page. The security certificate information displays but I could not see any option that would help me and this is the security certificate from the previous page anyway and not the PDS page that is being blocked.
If I could just get a Security Certificate error to display, I was hoping I would then be given the option of displaying the blocked content anyway. Without even an FF30 error condition being displayed (as does IE8), I am unable to proceed.
Ideas about what to try would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Claude

You can inspect the certificate chain via a site like this:

  • Youtube (https)security certificate issue

    Hi
I'm using latest firefox version with and recently I'm facing this strange issue ... everytime I try to visit youtube, to be specific, when not logged in on any google accounts .. I can visit http://www.youtube.com but when I try to login, in which case it redirects to https:// and It shows the following error(check image url):
    https://imageshack.com/i/ezbe0c53j
And if I try to add exception, it shows this screen(check image url):
    https://imageshack.com/i/hj41802cj
(PS: Couldn't find upload option here so I had to use otherimage hosts)
Also I tried changing windows time, adding auto time sync from windows site and also tried changing profile, disabling add on and testing and also tried removing cache/cookies from both google.com and youtube.com and so far nothing worked ... I can't seem to access youtube while logged in (https)
Also its only youtube, no other website shows this security certificate error!
please provide a solution to this asap, thanks!

When you click Add Exception, you get a Google error page instead of a pop-up dialog? Or are you saying that after you added the exception, YouTube's home page won't load. That's mildly suspicious...
If you return to the Add Exception dialog and use the View button, how does the certificate compare with the attached screen shot?

  • Exchange 2007 Out of Office Certificate Error

    Hello,
I have an Exchange 2007 Server and for some odd reason this week, we have been having issues enabling Out of Office in Outlook. It is some sort of issue with the Autodiscover service, but despite reading forum post after forum post, nothing has worked for
me. At first when we would go into Outlook and click on Out of Office, it would freeze and then say the server is unavailable. I realized that it was trying to resolve a URL so I added a manual A record in the DNS server pointing to the local IP of the server
and it fixed the issue, kind of. Now when we click on Out of Office Assistant, we get a security certificate error and it is driving my users crazy. I have updated the SRV record and many things, still unable to get it to work.
    Any help would be super!!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
1.First of all please check the name what you are using for autodiscover service is available on SAN certificate.
2.Please check the name resolution is happening for autodiscover namespace.
I.e if you try to resolve autodisccover.mydomain.com (or) mail.mydomain.com in your problematic PC it should have to resolved in to cas server ip address or in some scenarios it will get resolved in to LB
3.Then please check whether you have properly set the autodiscover internal URL in all the cas servers.
    It might be like below
     https:\\autodiscover.mydomain.com\autodiscover\autodiscover.xml
    (or)
    https:\\mail.mydomain.com\autodiscover\autodiscover.xml
4.Then please check for the web services url in all the cas servers and that is the major thing which will make the availability services (i.e OOF,free busy lookup) to work perfectly .
5.In the problematic please uncheck the internet proxy exceptions.
6.You cane use test email configuration to check whether the outlook client is fetching up the proper url for autodisocver and ews .
7.test-outlookwebservices (we can use this command to check the fuctionality of autodiscover for an problematic user account)
8.Please check the root certificates in the problematic client to check whether it is a expired or not .Root certificates is nothing but the one which will come by default with OS .
9.If all the above is set as perfect but still you are facing the issue. Please follow the below one and this may be not required.
Please export the san certificate from exchnage to pfx file which should have to include the certificate key by using MMC.Then import the pfx file in to problematic client .Let us see what happens .
Same on my side i am having few questions about your environment .
1.Are you facing any certificate errors in OWA .Because why i am asking please check the installed SAN certificate in exchange is valid and or it is not expired ?
2.what is the problematic client operating system veriosn?
Please reply me if you have any issues .
    Regards
