Security Concern for new Safari 8.0.2 Update

New update has the following fix:
Fixes an issue that could prevent history from syncing across devices if iCloud Drive is not on
Does this mean Safari will upload you browser history to Apple regardless if iCloud is on or off now (i never use iCloud)? I have noticed (and blocked) safari uploading to mzstatic.com which is an Apple address (even prior to this update).
If so, this information farming/spying has gone crazy.

If I am not using iCloud that is, I have not signed up for an account through "System Preferences" will Safari upload browser history to Apple anyway (to a temporary account based on computer GUID perhaps)?

It's not just iTunes you need to update...
You need to upgrade to Leopard v10.5.8 at the very least in order to sync, restore, and backup an iPod touch.

How to Define Workbook / Business Ares Security Correctly for new Users

Hi All,
Please could you help me understand the Security Model for Workbooks and business Areas as I believe I am very close to understanding it, but missing something important.
Background Information:
We are using the predefined Oracle Business Areas (Payables, Receivables, Purchasing & General Ledger) to build our reports on. These are the steps I am taking to try and assign a new user & responsibility access to the existing report.
1. I create the Report in Discoverer Desktop under the General Ledger Responsibility logged in as myself assume report name = Report_1.
2. I create a new Responsibility in Oracle Apps called Discoverer Resource Coordinators.
3. I create a new User in Oracle Apps called Joe Bloggs and assign the responsibility Discoverer Resource Coordinators to the Joe.
4. Logged in as myself in Discoverer Desktop, Responsibility General Ledger I Share the Report (Report_1) to the new Responsibility I just created Discoverer Resource Coordinators.
5. In Discoverer Administration, Security, I assign the new Responsibility Discoverer Resource Coordinators to the predefined Oracle Business Areas (Payables, Receivables, Purchasing & General Ledger).
6. In Discoverer Administration I set privileges so that the Responsibility Discoverer Resource Coordinators can do all tasks, query data, administer. .etc. etc..
7. I therefore believe everything has been done and attempt to Login and run the report under Joe Bloggs, but am unable to retrieve any data.
Help what am I missing!

This has now been adjusted according to your recommendations but to no avail.
Myself and Lance have ensured that this new responsibility has unlimited access to all the existing Business areas to eliminate joins within folders not being recognised, we have also ensured that the workbooks that have been created are shared with the correct responsibility.
I have thoroughly tested this set up by logging in as this new responsibility within Disco. Client to try and retrieve data in a new Workbook, but even for the simplest of queries this fails.
It seems that there may be a problem with the Responsibility linking to the EUL, could this be due to the new responsibility being created after the Current EUL was set up?
Does anyone have any information or knowledge where this could happen?

Change default security settings for new Discoverer users? How?

Hello, using Discoverer 10g with SSO integration.
I've created two roles and create in advance users in the DB user, granting them
one of the two roles. The two roles privileges for Discoverer are already configured.
This way, when I create the user in the DB before launching Disco, granting the user one or the other role, I should be all set about what the user can or cannot do on Discoverer (Plus).
So far the theory :)
The problem is that the full permission given by Discoverer to each new user override the role settings, so each new user can do everything (instead one of the roles forbids saving and sharing, for example).
I have to go to Disco Admin and uncheck the "Plus/Viewer" checkbox for the user to make roles actually work as expected.
How can I set Discoverer user default as "Cannot do anything" on Plus/Viewer so that roles apply without further admin intervention?

Thanks a lot Rod.
The problem here is we need to allow portal users the ability to access Discoverer Plus without using Disco Admin: once a user is registered in the SSO, he should be able to connect successfully to Discoverer.
So we need creating user privileges on behalf of Disco Admin.
Tough job, but it seems it ca be done.

Security Concern for PX_TXN table

ADF saves model state in PX_TXN table and for that application module have to connect to the database with user which have access to insert and select data from PX_TXN table. Now my question was is there any security thread in that because any other user by knowing can access it and change the information of other users saved state or corrupt it. Any thought?

Just protect the db account (don't give out the user name and password). It's no different than protecting any other db schema.

I am a member on PBS.com. Since the Safari update, yesterday, I can no longer post to the message boards. There are others who are also having this problem. I can post on other message boards, but I can no longer post on this particular website.

More than likely your real problem is that you're still running 10.3 and a very old version of Safari, which has numerous issues that have been addressed since that time. One of those issues is JavaScript, which is used by iWeb for photo galleries, which I believe is what you're publishing.
If that's the case, you need to upgrade to at least 10.4.11 so you can use the latest version of Safari, 3.1.2. You'd have to buy a retail box, since the installation disc for your newer iMac is machine-specific, so that won't work, and if it would, it would still be illegal. After you upgrade, you could then run Firefox 3 as well, but iWeb will need to be modified in order for the photo galleries to show up correctly on Firefox 3. This is not an Apple or Mozilla issue; it's a problem with a JavaScript library used in iWeb.

Email checks for new email, but does not update

I have 2 Yahoo email accounts. Both are on my iPhone. One works properly, the other does not. I also have a MSN account on the iPhone that also works correctly.
1) When I open my email for the problematic Yahoo account, I get the message "checking for mail", & then it says updated as of a few days ago and no new email is displayed. I KNOW I have new email (by checking on my PC), but it does not appear on the iPhone.
2) I can send email to this account from the account. It appears in Sent, but NOT in Inbox
3) I deleted the account & then added it back, but that does not help. I rebooted after each step (i.e. after deleting the account, and after adding it back in)
4) I checked the settings for the Yahoo account that doesn't work, and they are the same as for the Yahoo account that does work.
5) The account works properly on my iPad & my wife's iPhone 4
I have not yet tried tearing my hair out, to see if that helps, but I'm hoping something less drastic will work.

I'm having this problem as well. It seems like it was a more recent firefox update. I temporary solved this by deleting my sqlite keyfile as described in another post I found in a different forum, but it's since reoccured.
After I restart my system and run firefox, it's like it's running right after an update, or an install. None of my settings are saved, and password and cookies don't appear to be loaded either.
Is there any debug information I can provide?
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Firefox 3.6.13.
Oddly if I close and restart Firefox it's fine. It's only after a Windows restart that I see an issue. Disk check runs clean. I've also deleted my profile directory and had FF recreate it. Still having issues though.

Is there a way to change the cipher strength or order for the BlackBerry browser?
(Just as a side note - because BlackBerry uses WebKit for the browser (Apple uses WebKit) a lot of the browser tester sites pick it up as Safari. I woder if browser testing to determine market share doesn't flag some of Blackberry as Apple due to this "confusion.")

each app/version can be updated automatically up to a certain point. currently cs6 accepts the latest cr update, 8.3.

When I updated Firefox and clicked on the private browsing icon (mask icon) The index to file window showed up again. What do I need to do to stop this from happening?

The feature has been removed to make safari even less useable. You need to download a third party browser like atomic web browser to get the functionality you want back.
Like many new IOS 7 "features", safari on the ipad is a FAIL.
At least you can now bury safari in a folder containing hundreds of icons that you can only view 9 at a time.

Where do I send a long list of problems I have with non-functionality with the Lion OSX and new Safari for Lion.

In the past two weeks I have been documenting my Lion problems.
First, Arrows gone from finder windows; makes it difficult in comparing long lists of files in folder, or compare documents when reviewing line by line. This is obviously a change by people who do not compare long lists in windows comparing files between versions of projects ... the click to next screen is NOT equal to arrows.
Second, Finder Redreaw - doesn't. Move files to a fold, if there are a lot of files, they image of the files being moved remains in finder (see attached screen capture) until Finder is restarted and if COPY function is running. last files in Copy queue are not copied.
Screen capture 5 minutes after moving files to a folder - the selected file images are still in Finder after the move was completed.
Third, it is SLOW, particularly going to an "Attach file" in email, drawing the content of a folder to select an attachment is long enough for me to go to the kitchen, get a drink and come back. Just like the old days of OS7.
Fourth, shifting/recentering screen away from where I am working. Several programs, browsers, Adobe Photoshop/inDesign, and dear old Pages re center my screen - not to the center, but if I choose 30 of 70 images in a folder, it will shift … somewhere else in the folder instead of where I just clicked. If I am working on a document in inDesign or PhotoShop it will do the same - the cursor and screen drift elsewhere to find something it has been amused by. Sometimes it is a word, or a file, but often it is off the pastboard and on the etherial pasteboard on which the pages sit. Or if I'm zoomed in on an image, it moves to somewhere else.
I use a mouse and keyboard, both Apple wireless. I do not use a trackpad, but have a tablet/stylus I am afraid to put into the mix until this crap is stopped.
Fifth, SAVE AS… is gone. You must unlock, duplicate and edit the duplicate … and must rename it in Finder, or use EXPORT to save as the same format under a new name. SAVE AS… worked. Not broke, why fix it?
Personal Comment: The problems seem to be the triumph of coked up software engineers ooohing and aaahing over "Wouldn't it be cool if..." Cool, if they were Microsoft, and required everyone change how they have worked on Macs for the past (almost) three decades. Triumph of brainstorming over functionality.
Sixth, I can't use Cocoa Booklet, but that really started in OSX 10.6 "Snow Leopard". Most of my X11/Cocoa programs stopped worked about that time. Apple is no longer supporting "open source"?
But Wait! There's More...
Seventh, Tonight, trying to download a 1.7 gig archive onto a disk where 280 Gigs were supposedly free, it would not download because, according to the wonderful new Safari and the wonderful new Lion, there is not enough disk space to download a 1.7 gig file in a mere 280 Gigs of free space.
I might be able to move Snow Leopard onto the iMac, but my deciding factor was that Apple, in its wisdom, decided to make iBook Author unable to run under Snow Leopard. So moving to Snow Leopard means I have lost the ONLY benefit I get from the new computer and the new system.

Reboot your iPad and then see if you can set the security questions.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Safari password auto fill security concern

Just discovered what I consider to be a big security concern with iCloud Keychain. If you go into Settings, then Safari and your iCloud Keychain is under stored passwords and auto fill, the passwords are stored in plain text with no asterisk or anything. This means that all someone needs is your 4digit unlock code and they are then able to view all your stored passwords in Safari. They should at least require your iCloud Keychain password to view these, or just asterisk them out. If someone saw you enter your four digit unlock code, and then put your phone down, they could get this information without you even knowing it. This is not safe.

The purpose of that section is so that you can see your passwords, there wouldn't be much point in replacing them with asterisks. They are password protected, just don't give others your password.
