Security, Cookies, Performance, etc??

I am fairly new to the Apple World (4 years) and LOVE it!! I will NEVER use any other products! I just bought an iPad and own an iPhone as well..
My question is - is there anything I need to do as far as maintenance, etc for my iMac?? I know in the PC world they defrag, clean disk, etc. I don't notice any difference in performance since I got my iMac 4 years ago, but maybe there is??
Also, I know Macs are legendary for no viruses, etc but is there anything I need to do to enhance security in Safari / web browsing?
Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Do not install or download from untrustworthy websites. Use the "popup ad blocker" which is located in Safari's preferences. Check the Safari forum area for other suggestions - http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=876

Not really. Macs are pretty much maintenance free. Then again it depends on how you use your computer, home use, work use, just plain old fun, etc. Do you do a lot of burnings, graphics, photography?
It is a good idea to repair permissions and restart your computer after installations - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
Every few months, you may want to disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run _*Repair Disk*_ from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select *Disk Utility.*
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click *First Aid.*
Click _*Repair Disk.*_
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
For directory damage DiskWarrior is always recommended here.

  • Problem download secure files performance test kit

    Hi, I'm trying to download "secure files performance test kit" from here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/sftestkit-099298.html
    From here it should only be to push the "download" label - but this is not working.
    Instead I'm redirected to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/products/index.html
    where I can't find what I'm looking for.
    Please help,
    regards,
    Harald

    SecureFiles Performance Test Kit
    The SecureFiles Performance Test Kit compares the performance of SecureFiles to older LOBs or BasicFiles. SecureFiles and LOB performance is measured using two of the popular database driver protocols, namely the JDBC OCI driver (Type II driver) and the JDBC Thin driver (pure Java, Type IV driver). In addition, the kit also compares performance under different caching and logging conditions.
    Throughput is the metric used to measure performance for both reads and writes. The kit can be customized to run with different lob sizes, number of iterations, concurrent threads etc. The README file contains more information on setting up the kit and running the tests.
    below this you can find the download button:- click the link

  • Making secure cookies with cfscript

    With the ability to make components in CF9, I thought we would get the ability to make cookies via cfscript.  Am I missing something or is this still not available?

    Haha.  I do have a tendency to over complicate things. This is only half the story though, the importance of setting the "secure" flag is not for the server, but for the client browser.
    You can set a cookie in SSL and have it not be secure.  It doesn't "secure" the cookie by default.  As soon as the page is rendered unencrypted the client will share that cookie information with the server.  A secure cookie will not be shared by the client unless the connection is secure (and domain/path is matched).
    Hence, simply setting a cookie under SSL does not suffice as a secure scenario.   Read more here : http://resources.enablesecurity.com/resources/Surf%20Jacking.pdf Particularly page 3. PCI security compliance companies will say during an audit that all cookies must be marked as "secure" in addition to the use of SSL.
    What is frustrating about Coldfusion is that by default the JSESSIONID does not mark as "secure" even when using SSL.  So either you manually do this upon request (which can be problematic as it is publishing the unsecure cookie first) or modify the jrun-web.xml in WEB-INF with the following:
    <session-config>
          <cookie-config>
        <cookie-secure>true</cookie-secure>
      </cookie-config>
    </session-config>
    Returning to my original rant, I'm hoping Adobe (great job on CF9 btw!!) will eventually have all of the tags available via cfscript.

  • Setting secure cookie in iPlanet

    Hi All,
    I would like to set the JSESSIONID cookie as Secure. I read the product documentation for iPlanet Web Server 6.0 and it suggest to use the session-cookie in web-apps.xml. I try to modify the file as following and restart the server
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE vs PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.; iPlanet//DTD Virtual Server Web Applications 6.0//EN"
         "http://developer.iplanet.com/webserver/dtds/iws-webapps_6_0.dtd">
    <vs>
    <session-cookie is-secure="true"/>
    </vs>
    Unfortunately, it doesn't work, the JSESSIONID is still not Secure Cookie. Does anyone have solution on this? Thanks in advance.

  • Can BC tie into a POS System (Micros or Aloha) to track sales, employee performance etc.

    Just wondering if anyone else has been asked this question or knows the answer.
    "Can BC tie into a POS System (Micros or Aloha) to track sales, employee performance etc."

    While you're waiting on an answer from the community I'd like to share the link with you that will give you an idea of what's possible to integrate. This is the list of all BC web services - https://worldsecuresystems.com/catalystwebservice/catalystcrmwebservice.asmx
    Anything you are able to obtain through those services can be integrated. I don't see how employee performance can be integrated.
    Cheers,

  • Secure cookie not supported by XSQL Servlet

    Secure cookies are not supported by the XSQL engine.
    The "set-cookie" that delivers writes "plain text" cookies on the client site.
    Since these cookies could contain relevant information (e.g. oracle username/password credentials) and since these could not be removed from application side, it is crucial that XSQL provides support for secure cookies.
    Any patch / comment is appreciated.

    Hi Andrea,
    This is more of an issue for BC-JAS-WEB than the UWL....
    I have seen only a few other messages that are quite similar to this:  Could you please check the following:
    Is ICM being used?
    It is possible that the http stream is corrupted.
    There are some known issues between ICM and J2EE that can cause this
    kind of behaviour.
    Please review SAP notes 1048692 and 1068501 which
    provide 2 different ways to solving the issue (update the SP level or
    patch the http and server_jsp components).
    If ICM is not used, then please check if there is some other proxy
    between J2EE and the client.  For testing, try requesting J2EE
    directly, bypassing any network devices or proxies and check if the
    issue occurs.

  • Secure Cookies

    How to go about requiring secure cookies in Dreamweaver Toolbox?

    Duncan,
    We couldn't make this capability more elaborate in the patch release. We'll extend it for the SSO situation in version 4.0, possibly adding the Secure attribute to the cookie properties of application authentication schemes.
    I assume that with SSO based authentication schemes, the call to OWA_COOKIE.SEND is done by the APEX engine internally after a successful SSO authentication.
    Correct. There's no way to force the cookie to use the secure attribute in this case in the current release.

    there is  a software being advertixed  called mackeeper.  said to speed up Mac performance etc.  is this Apple supported?

    No, that is malware. Do not download it.
    If you have already downloaded it, you may need a complex procedure to uninstall it.
    If it were good, you would already know about it. It would not appear in pop-up ads like the SPAM that is is.
    If it were needed to maintain your Mac, Apple would have included it.

  • Some web pages come up blank, generally following a link, that have opened without issues in earlier FF versions. Pages open OK in IE8 and/or in Chrome. Have tried the cookies clearing etc as suggested elsewhere, without success.

    I'm running FF 3.6.8. Certain websites (no apparent pattern, no secure sites) come up blank (white screen), showing "Done" on the footer. It generally happens when clicking on a link in another web page but no login or similar is involved to get to the intended site. Have cleared the cookies and followed the advice for a similar issue stated elsewhere on the Help forum, to no avail. Have also not added any add-ons since that recent FF upgrade.
    The affected sites have come up without issues in earlier FF versions, and they do load in IE8 and in Chrome. A representative example is shown below. - Will appreciate any helpful comments and recommendations!

    "Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"<br />

Ive cleared all cookies and catch, etc i have gone in to help and tried out instructions for the not responding but no luck. I have windows 7 and have not had problems in the past with firefox. I have uninstalled and reinstalled still no luck.

    go to '''TOOLS '''then '''OPTIONS''' then '''ADVANCED''' then '''NETWORK tab''' then '''SETTINGS tab''' and select the options '''NO PROXY''' click '''OK''' and '''OK '''again in the next screen. With that you have disabled the proxy settings.
    ''if you like to not disable the proxy settings choose'' : '''Auto-detect proxy settings for this network''' (it is in the same session)

  • Firefox fails to import history, cookies, favourites etc. from opera; cookies etc. are not listed in the space where you can select the items you want to import any idea how this comes? thanks!

    In the importing operation Firefox detects Internet Explorer and Opera as installed browsers. When i select Internet Explorer cookies, history, favourites etc. are listed in a box where you can select the items you want to import in Firefox. When i select Opera no items are listed that can be imported. Any idea how this comes?

    Hi,
    I think that what you are searching be in Tools >> Options >> Privacy >> On Firefox will: change to "Use custom settings for history" then Button Show Cookies will be allowed and you will see the cookies in your browser in the next window
    If you uncheck "Accept cookies from sites", probably the sites that need cookies will alert you that you need active the storage cookies

  • Security Manager Performance

    Hi all,
    i have implemented a Repository Manager and a Security Manager with the help of the Tutorial from the Code Samples Section. Everything works fine, but the Performance of the Search is very bad. The Security Manager has serveral isAllowed Methods, but the framework always calls the atomic method "isAllowed(IResourceHandle, IPrincipal, IPermission)". This causes a great timedelay. In my case it will be much more effectiv to use the isAllowed-Methods with the Lists as Parameter. But i heard that it is not possible to force the framework to use this isAllowed-Methods.
    Can anyone tell me how i can increase the performance of the SecurityManager or how i can use the isAllowed Methods with the lists?
    Thank you very much for your answers!

    Hi Marcus,
    Unfortunately you have no possiblity to change the way the RF calls security managers.
    Is it possible for you to do reasonable caching within you security manager implementation?
    Best regards,
    Michael

  • How to restore old Firefox bookmarks, cookies, passwords, etc. saved in recovery directory to new install of Firefox?

    Used Firefox as my browser. Used a cleaner program. On restart, Windows 7 would not boot fully. System Restore to before installing the cleaner program didn't work.
    Used HP backup facility to create back of all files, etc. on my C: drive on an external drive. Used another HP facility to reinstall Windows 7, etc. as if computer just arrived the factory. Moved backed up files to C: drive in a Recovery directory.
    Installed Firefox 5.0.1. Can't find and import the Bookmarks, passwords, cookies, etc. that should be in saved Recovery directory. Searched "bookmarks" in Windows 7 facility of my C: - got no results.

  • Message Level Security and Performance

    Hi All,
    Does the implementation of Message Level security features Like SSL and Encryption degrade the performance of the server in Processing the messages ?
    regards,
    Rahul

    Encryption related performance issue is purely related to size of messages.
    In my opinion, SSL wouldnt affect the performance for large messages. SSL will take its usual time for checking for security.
    And the volume and size could anytime affect the performance
