  • "Use Current Page" to save home pages/tabs is greyed out, even though I have a fresh install of ver. 22 with no added plugins or extensions. How can I fix?

When I try to save my home pages / tabs, I can't, because this option is greyed out. I even uninstalled FF with Revo Uninstaller completely, reinstalled with no new plugins or extensions, and it remains greyed out. The only thing that I can do, is pin the tabs, but I wish to be able to use this option. If I can't, I won't know if its Firefox, or malware or? Thank you in advance for any help. Windows 7 Premium SP1, Firefox ver. 22

    Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Fresh Install: Gnome Shell segfault and bgrt invalid status (Nvidia)

Hi everyone! I have Arch freshly installed, and after some modprobing last night I was finally able to get the Arch repository Nvidia drivers working. That being said, I am still getting a "bgrt invalid status" message on boot up (and, for what it is worth I do not have an Arch splash screen). I have googled the issue which took me to a thread here on the Arch forums, but that was dealing with the Noveau driver and not Nvidia.
Below is my entire dmesg output, and would appreciate if someone might help me look through it and diagnose the Gnome segfault and any other issues that may be present. I am also looking for some advice as to the proprietary Nvidia drivers. I have a GTX 980, and while currently I don't need any advanced rendering, here when an upcoming game gets released on Steam, I very well may need that.

Hey, I ran into a similar error (not bgrt invalid status, but a gnome shell segfault) after updating recently and I'm using the proprietary drivers. I think I may have had multiple issues. I'm not sure if any of this advice will prove useful, but some combination of these worked for me:
    * Stop gdm with systemctl (use ctrl alt f2 or another tty), uncomment WaylandEnable=false in /etc/gdm/custom.conf and try restarting gdm
    * If that doesn't work, disable gdm and install another login manager (I used sddm)
    * If that still doesn't work and you have the infinality font packages for freetype, fontconfig, and cairo, replace them with the default packages and try starting your login manager again

  • Trouble updating fresh install of CS5.0 on Mac

    Hi,
I am in a corporate environment with CLP licenses of Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium CS5.0. Because we use some very expensive plugins, along with InDesign Server, and are connected to a database publishing program, there are a lot of dependencies preventing us from upgrading at this time.
Recently we have upgraded our Macs to OSX 10.9.2 from Snow Leopard without incident. All existing licenses were preserved and work correctly. However one of the Macs, a 27" IMac needed to have a fresh install of Mavericks for reasons unrelated to this post. I was able to install the Suite and open each application without issue from the original electronic dowload file. However, attempts to update the suite using the built-in AAME update method fails with each attempt, due to download errors. So one question is, is this because of something Adobe did that changes the download location, or do I have some sort of security blocking downloads of this nature from Adobe? (I did set preferences to permit non-Apple Store downloads.)
I can search for the individual updates and find them with a search. I updated Bridge successfully using this method. I then attempted to update Illustrator to 15.0.2, and it appeared to be successful. However, following this Illustrator would no longer open. It had an X through the application and a message appeared on opening that this version of Illustrator would not open on this type of Mac. Is there a particular order in which I must install these updates? As I write, I have unistalled the Suite, reinstalled it to the point where no updates have been attempted.
Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply, Jeff. The download errors I am receiving are generic, 'download error, try again' type of thing. I did disable Mac's security preference. I also spoke to our IT group about the possibility of things being blocked, but since I can download the updates directly from Adobe, they didn't think I was being blocked. It's hard to determine if the Application Manager is downloading those from some other location that is blocked compared to the manual download location-. So just before I received your answer, I began installing the individual updates, taking a guess as to an optimal order, leaving Bridge, with its shared dependencies until after the core updates were in there. I actually found that some manual updates failed, and these were only successful through AAME after most of the others were installed manually. Here, with all its warts is how I eventually got it all updated, in case anyone else runs into this. Seems like Adobe may have moved things around so that the AAME can no longer find what it needs. I was also informed by Adobe that telephone support for CS5 has ended.
Installed Illustrator 15.0.2 manually, opened successfully
Installed InDesign 7.0.4 manually, opened successfully
Installed Photoshop 12.0.4 manually, opened successfully
Installed Flash Pro CS5 11.0.2 manually, opened successfully.
Installed Dreamweaver 11.0.4 manually, restarted computer. Extension Manager opens then quits unexpectedly.
Installed Extension Manager 5.0.3 manually, permitting extensions updating in Mavericks
Opened Dreamweaver, Extension Manager then worked and finished installing extension.
Installed Adobe Fireworks 11.0.2 manually and opened successfully.
Installed Adobe Media Encoder CS5 5.0.1 AME_5.0.1_multiple_Mac.dmg manually successfully
Installed Adobe Bridge CS5 4.0.5 update manually successfully
Attempted Install of Adobe Player for Embedding 3.1 AdobeAPE3_mul_AdobeUpdate.dmg. failed
Attempted Install of Adobe XMP Panels AdobeXMPPanelsAll-AdobeUpdte.dmg failed
Attempted to get the rest of the way by installing through AAME the remaining pieces. All installed successfully except Adobe Pixel Bender Toolkit 2.5 and Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 update and Adobe Player for Embedding 3.1
Installed Adobe Pixel Bender Tookit 2.5 manually successfully.
Installed Camera Raw 6.7.1 manually. (should have been 6.7, but it went in.)
Checked for more updates. Updater still said Adobe 6.7 required and Adobe Player for Embedding.
Ran AAME one more time and Adobe Player for Embedding was installed successfully.
Left 6.7.1 alone despite prompt in AAME to put in 6.7.

  • Can't login after fresh installing gnome using gdm 3.2 [SOLVED]

I don't know if this topic was already solved, I hope someone can help me about this. I have a fresh install of arch linux (just yesterday) and installed gnome and gnome-extra packages. As usual, I go with the procedure of editing my .xinitrc (exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch gnome-session), rc.conf (...dbus networkmanager...), inittab (runlvl 5, x:5......gdm). After a reboot, gdm screen appeared, I can't find my account, then there were two choices, "Sign in" and "Not listed..."). I clicked Not listed, then entered my user and password, after that, it responded: Authentication failure/failed... or something like that. I tried it again and it's the same. Temporarily, I'm using startx or slim (depends on my mood). Can anyone help me?
    here's my gdm's 0.log and 0-greeter.log respectively:

  • Solaris 10u6 fresh install - can't get Solaris Management Console working

    Hey guys,
I have been searching all over but can't seem to find any help on getting SMC working. I have a fresh install of Solaris 10u6 on a Sun Fire V20z.
So I login via ssh to the solaris machine ("unknown"), and It looks like wbem is online:
    root@unknown:/# svcs wbem
    STATE          STIME    FMRI
    online         16:37:50 svc:/application/management/wbem:default
root@unknown:/# And netstat shows that my machine is listening on port 898
    root@unknown:/# netstat -an|grep 898
    127.0.0.1.898              *.*                0      0 49152      0 LISTEN
    root@unknown:/# The problem is
    1)
When I try to do anything in the smc launched with as
smt -toption for terminal mode, I always end up getting the message:
There is no Solaris Management Console Server running on localhost.2)
If I login from my laptop with X11 forwarding on, and launch the graphical interface, it does come up with the main window that says "Solaris Management Console 2.1" and the "Open Toolbox" window. However, in the Open Toolbox window it says "Server Not Running"
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, since svcs says that wbem is running... I'm pretty new to Solaris, working hard to get up to speed, so I'd really appreciate any help you guys could offer.
    Thanks,
    Jamie

For some reason it was able to run once by running the command
    # /etc/init.d/init.wbem start
But no matter what I do, I can't get it to work one lick with
    # svcadm enable wbem
    Any ideas guys?

  • Fresh Install Mac - Licensing for this product has stopped working  Error: 6

We just got the new macbook pro refreshes at work and decided to make the switch to standalone CFBuilder.   We downloaded the trial and installed.  On launch we get this error, "Licensing for this product has stopped working  Error: 6".  Every macbook had the same result.   All are running 2 Ghz Quad Core i7 with 8GB of ram.   All of them get the same error.    All have a fresh install of 10.6.6.   Other than installing Air before the CFBuilder install they have no other applications installed.   Other than Air, there are no other Adobe products installed.  All CFBuilders were installed under an admin account.
We've tried all the troubleshooting.   Permissions, LicenseRecovery, Setting the clock back to 2010... we even tried reinstalling OSX, then installing acrobat, then air, then CFBuilder with the same result every time.   We even activated the root account on the system and installed under root.  Same result every time.    The Flexnet service never gets created unless we use the License recovery tool.   If we install the updater it still makes no difference.
All options for CFBuilder are grayed out under help.   Registration, Deactivation, Updates...
    Any suggestions?

Thanks for posting and letting me know. Yes, it is crappy to have to work-around it like that. I noticed when I installed
Builder that it over-wrote some newer files, but I said "Okay to All". I'm using CS4 not CS5 and my newer files were probably better. I'm glad you got your program working at least. My problem is I started my first Project at the wwwroot level, like all the instructions say. It wasn't until I saw Ben Forta's video of it that I realized I was supposed to start a new folder within the wwwroot folder as my Project folder. Now I can't get rid of my first Project folder without DELETING all of the files in wwwroot, WHICH I CANNOT DO. MANY OF THE FOLDERS THERE ARE WORKING WEB SITES! If you know of any way to detach that original Project, I'd sure like to know how to do it.
    Thanks,

  • Doing a Fresh Install on 2nd hand Mac

    Hi,
I have just purchased a 2nd hand system a external seller, I want to make sure there is nothing lurking on the system that should not be there and to create my own user etc.
    I have
    Mid 2011 27'' MAC
AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB
    4GB RAM
    Intel i5 (Quad Core)
    OS 10.6.8.
    1TB hard drive
I also have an installation CD which says "MAC OS X Snow Leopard, Mac Box Set" on it however I don't really know the source of this.
    So questions
1.) Is there a easy way to make sure that the mac is clean and create a new user / profile etc without doing a fresh install?
2.) Assuming no to above and I need to reinstall then how can I confirm that the CD I have is the correct/official version?
3.) What is the best way to proceed with a fresh install?
-- I'd want to backup just case anythiung went wrong with the installation, is using Superduper the best way forward here? Can I use that to create a bootable file on a external USB with other files on there?
4.) Can I create a new partition on the existing hard in the MAC and use that to create the new version  of the OS?
5.) Once I have my fresh install can I upgrade all the way through to Mavricks via updates or do I need to purchase the install disks for that?  Is it worth it?
    many thanks

The disk is white and has "MAC OS X Snow Leopard, Mac Box Set replacement DVD 2Z691-6560-A" just checked the disk and it does have an install of 10.6 on it. How much of a risk do you think using this would be?  Are there many corrupt copies going around?
It sounds that you have a white retail disk.  There is no risk as such trying to use it but these disks do not have the iLife applications on them.  According to Mactracker, a 2011 27" iMac came with 10.6.6 or 10.6.7 gray installation disks (see Alberto's image) with one disk for the OSX and the other for the iLife applications.  It clearly will have the exact OSX marked on the disk.
Duplicate installation disks can be ordered from Apple Customer Service.  Have your iMac serial number ready and there is a charge.

I am more worried about attempting the fresh installation and it failing and leaving me with no system over the holidays. Thats why the backup is important. I had read on another thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/10549815?searchText=Doing%20a%20Fresh%20In stall#10549815) that I would need to install iLife, iPhoto,iMovie, etc do they come on the installation disk as well or can I download them?
If you can install from the retail disk, version of Snow Leopard, you will have to purchase the iLife applications.  I think it would be less expensive if you ordered the duplicate installation disks for your iMac.
I suggest that you clone your iMac, then if the Snow Leopard retail fails or other problems occur, you should be able to revert to where you are now. Bottom line, I do think that getting the duplicate disks is your best option.
    Ciao.

The kernel is using excessive processor cycles. Below are some possible causes for the condition.
    Throttling
When it gets high temperature readings from the hardware, or low voltage readings from the battery of a MacBook, the kernel may try to compensate by interrupting the processor(s) to slow them down and reduce power consumption. This condition can be due to:
☞ a buildup of dust on the logic board
    ☞ high ambient temperature
    ☞ a worn-out or faulty battery in a portable
☞ the malfunction of a cooling fan, a temperature sensor, a voltage sensor, or some other internal component
Note that if the problem is caused by a sensor, there may be no actual overheating or undervoltage.
If the computer is portable, test with and without the AC adapter connected. If kernel_task hogs the processor only on AC power, charging is causing the machine to heat up. That behavior may be normal for some models. CPU usage should drop when charging is complete.
Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, though not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a fault. For more thorough hardware testing, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If nothing is wrong with the hardware, then whatever you can do to improve cooling may help.
    Installed software
    Not applicable in this case.
    Corrupt NVRAM or SMC data
Sometimes the problem is cleared up by resetting the NVRAM or the SMC.
    External display
Connecting an external LCD display to some MacBook Pro models while the lid is open may cause this issue. If applicable, test by closing the lid or disconnecting the display. You might get better results with a newer LED display.

  • DBus service error after a fresh install

    Hi!
I have a freshly installed Archlinux system. The dbus-org service seems to be reporting an error and I am not sure
    $ systemctl status dbus-org
    dbus-org.service
Loaded: error (Reason: No such file or directory)
    Active: inactive (dead)
I am not seeing any side effects to this though. DBus has to be working since systemd is using it. I am also running Gnome 3 which also needs DBus to run.
Still, I'm curious if anybody has seen this and could help investigating the source of this error message.
    Thanks!

    murb wrote:
I think the service is called dbus. Try:
    $ systemctl status dbus
Wow ok. Dbus is working. I've been mislead in thinking dbus-org would be valid and though the "No such file or directory" error was coming out of dbus. It is actually systemctl telling me it can't find a file/service matching dbus-org.
    Thanks!

  • Is there a way to securely erase the drive during a fresh install

I'm selling my iMac G5 and Powerbook G4 so I can afford a brand new Intel iMac (the 2.8GHz one). I have Leopard running on both these machines at the moment, but on the iMac G5, I want to restore it to factory settings using the original Tiger install discs (I've lost the ones for the laptop).
I would like to ensure that these computers don't have any personal data on them before they leave... is there a way to completely scrub the drives before performing a reinstall? My only other option at present is to reinstall, then use Disk Utility to securely erase all free space... but I can't remember if that option was available in Tiger.
Perhaps there's some even better way I can prepare these machines for a new user that I haven't thought of?

Ok, I found the best way to ensure that all your personal data is gone before you sell your Mac is as follows:
    1. Perform a reinstall of OS X (selecting erase and install)
    2. When install has completed, create a quick test account so you can log in
    3. Run Disk Utility and erase all free space to the required level (I chose 7 times overwrite)
    4. Perform a reinstall of OS X (selecting erase and install) and power the machine off afterwards (when you get the first setup screen.
My reasoning is that after the first fresh install, you only have OS X's files on the filesystem. Any personal data that hasn't been overwritten is in the free disk space. Disk Utility then clears that up and the second fresh install allows you to get the machine to the state you normally get a brand new Mac in (i.e. prompts you for initial setup information).
