Security on Acrobat PRO 9 - What direction to take?

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. I will gladly do my own research but choices and vendors seem endless.
I am setting up a company intranet server that is Windows 7  IIS 7.5, PHP5 Fast CGI, and MySQL 5.It will be essentially a server for with a CSS menu to go to pdf portfolio files used as Addition and Revision logs for manufacturing procedures etc.
With that set up, good bad or indifferent here is what I would like to do.
I would like to set security at the file level on pdf's only on the server. There will be company manuals and procedures that any one can access. There will be files that only supervisors can access. A record log of accessed supervisor files should be generated. These files should be updated by some type of batch process when superviors get hired or leave. Files will use portfolio feature as addition and revision log.
1) I can buy add on features/utilites if necessary but not monthly fees. WWW.protectedPDF.com was perfect but not suitable and over-priced. I have 500 files and 20 supervisors, not 20 files and 500 readers.
2) Generic one password for files will not help much, as access logs are desired. Certificates looked like they are intended for email recipients not user. PLEASE correct me if I am mistaken.
3) Perhaps I should just have login script for sever access but  IIS 7.5 would need a walk through set up example.

Interesting, I work at company with 60MM in annual sales, so Adobe is limiting themselves by making functional software out of reach to many. I can not in good conscious recommend it. I was hopefully steering this in other direction as to what add-on utlities might be acceptable. I am trialing built in digital ID's now.
It seems that truely useful software is always just out of reach.

  • Subscribed to PDF Pack in october, and paid for 1 year, since it is useless to me I just subscribed to Acrobat Pro. What to do for refund earlier invoice 64.99 €

    , I have a subscription for Adobe’s PDF Pack since October 2014.
Sorry to say that this is of microscopic use to me:
Before I ran Vista with a perfect working Adobe Pro 8
    Since a few months, I run Windows 8.1;
    It appears that PDF Pack is not compatible with Windows 8;
dragging files to the www-interface is of no help to me since I mostly want to print selections of xls-sheets and drawings.
    Adobe Pro 8 is not compatible with Windows 8;
So I had to forget about PDF Pack and back / upgrade to Acrobat Pro.
Therefor my request to refund me the 64.99 €, billed with invoice IEE2014001172320 dated 07/10/2014 and paid per Visa.

The same thing has happened to me, I have been charged and paid two upfront line rental fees.  Subsequently BT also want a monthly rental fee.  I have called customer services three times for a refund and realised I am wasting my time as they only see one payment as with you.
    Today I have written a very detailed letter to the Address given on the BT web site for complaints in Durham, which is;
    BT Customer Correspondence Centre
    Providence Row
    Durham
    DH98 1BT
BT claim I will recieve a reply within 10 days, if I don't get one I will copy this letter to OffCom and to the MD of Customer Services, Warren Buckley and let them deal with it.  I will get the necessary postal details for Mr Buckley from Off Com.
Like you I want my money back pronto and I intend to use whatever means that are available to achieve it.
I did pay by credit card so I also intend to get my bank involved becasuse frankly BT Customer service is a complete shambles.  I have only been a customer for 12 days and am regrettiing the move already.  I have also contracted for vision services so we will see how this goes.
    Hope this helps you.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Batch security for Acrobat Pro X

    Hi,
Can anyone help me with batch removing security and passwords from files with Adobe Pro X.  I have found solutions for other Acrobat versions by using Batch Processing, but that feature seems to be missing from Pro X.  I read on another board about installing "change security to none.sequ" in the sequence folders, but I am not sure how to go about that. http://acrobatusers.com/forum/actions/create-new-action-without-scripting
There does not seem to be an action for this issue.
    Thanks

Acrobat and Adobe Reader will not play YouTube video streams natively as the Terms of Use applied by Google (owners of YouTube) expressly forbid it.
Developers have to load the YouTube API player directly from Google's servers, which makes embedding a video a Flash/Flex task not a video task. There are some proof-of-concept examples from myself and Joel Geraci floating about, but Adobe has no intention to support the direct conversion of a YouTube URL into a rich media annotation. The typical YouTube 'embed' link is a link to an HTML page, not to the video itself - the direct link to the stream is dynamic and can only be obtained using the API player.
Acrobat requires that if you specify a URL for a video asset, it be either a local FLV or H.264 file, an FLV or H.264 file served from a regular http server, or a stream from a Flash Media server (rtmp/rtmpe protocols). In every case the URL must end with a valid file extension. It will not accept anything else.

  • Acrobat Pro vs Reader

    1. Where does Adobe describe the compatibility (or lack thereof) between Reader and Acrobat?
    2. Problem History
    a. On Win7-64, had Adobe Reader (v9?). Worked fine as app or from browser.
    b. Then installed Acrobat 9 Pro Extended with Pro 9 Extended as default for opening PDFs. Worked fine as app or from browser.
    c. About 11/4 I was auto-notified of Reader updates & installed them. Reader version shows 9.4.0.
    d. Since then trying to download/read PDFs in browser is unsuccessful with "blank question-mark" error.
    3. Elsewhere for question-mark problem Graffiti said: "be sure and have only one version or Reader OR Acrobat installed."
    Which raises the general questions:
    1. Are Reader & Acrobat compatible? (I had assumed so.)
    2. How can one have installed the superset of the most recent Reader & Acrobat updates without the 2 products tripping over each other?
    3. Where (if anywhere) does an Acrobat user-guide or knowledge base article tell Acrobat Pro users what to do with existing Reader when installing Acrobat, what to do to keep updates from one product from interfering with the other, etc?
Even if I switch to pdf links opening in app rather than browser, I prefer to have the option either way, so I don't want to just abandon the browser capability.
If I uninstall Reader entirely, will it remove even Acrobat's reading capabilities?
All I want to do is have the full range of reading, writing, and other capabilities available.

    You said in your post:
"However, web browsers are somewhat notorious for getting confused when their plugins change and update, so it's possible that when the two plugins updated, your selection as to which one is active has been corrupted, leaving neither plugin operational. You should be able to correct that with the options/preferences within your web browser itself."
If this is true, that is why many users, and I am one of those, do not install both products on the same system. I do not dare to try installing Acrobat Reader because of this situation. When I tried it in the past, I got all kinds of strange error messages such that my ability to access PDFs from the web was severely hampered. I could not even start Acrobat itself at times. Why can't Adobe fix this problem?
When you say changes preferences in the browsers, which ones in what browsers? If a Adobe could put together a list of browsers and their preferences that have to be changed, that might help.

  • Downloading acrobat pro, should i have selected run or save, its downloading very slowly

    Any advice please ?

    Hey ianb45660234,
Could you please let me know the link from where you are trying to download Acrobat pro and what version.
Make sure that you are logged in as administrator and anti-virus programs (if any) are disabled as these might interrupt or slow down the downloading process.
    Let me know.

  • Acrobat Pro X serial number "invalid" on reinstalling

For reasons unconnected with Adobe products, I've needed to repartition my hard disc and reinstall the operating system. To reinstate Acrobat Pro X, which I'd purchased previously,  I downloaded it again from the Adobe site, and retrieved my serial number via my Adobe account. However, when I installed it, the software alleged that my serial number was invalid. Why? I paid a lot of money for Acrobat Pro. What do I do?

I have just experienced the same problem with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.  I hope there is an easy solution.

  • PDF files opens in Adobe Reader  9 but not Adobe Acrobat Pro 9

After one of my users digitally signs a PDF file, and saves it, he cannot open it again.
He gets either a reference memory error or a Font Capture error.
I can open the same PDF file with Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.
If  I take the same file to a system with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 - same error on the same file.

So the option was already checked when opened the document. I went ahead and unchecked, closed, reopened just to test and it's still not displaying correctly.
In response to Bill@VT. The image is on top of a white background so I can't tell if there is space there or not, it's just all white.
She showed me another document that's doing something similar today. This time the pdf was done with a green background and now the background shows as white. It was created the same way with Indesign and it shows fine in Reader and the Windows preview pane just not Acrobat. I'm trying to get the user to find the installation media so I can remove and reinstall, but I'm not sure if she will be able to find it.

  • Problem exporting data in Acrobat Pro 9.0 from secured response form

    Hello,
I made a form in Livecycle 9.0 and am distributing it through Acrobat Pro 9.0 - using Acrobat.com's form distribution application - in several cycles to see how varying the levels of security of the form will affect users (the folks who will be filling out the forms), once they get the forms.  I want to see how many passwords they have to enter, what they can do, what they cannot do with the form..  I've been sending unsecured and secured forms out, to test.
The problem I have now is, when I receive my permissions protected, secured forms back, I cannot EXPORT the data.  Both  the "Export" and "Archived" buttons are greyed out, and even when I remove the security settings from File--> Portfolio Properties, nothing changes.
I'm locked out of the collected data!
It's easy to export data from unsecured response forms (without permissions protection), but I would prefer to limit the amount of manipulation users can do to the forms (aside from commenting, filling them out, and signing them).
The secured forms perform great on the Acrobat Reader - user (form-filler) end, restricting printing, modifying text, etc,  but they return to me in Acrobat Pro inert.  I'm completely stumped to how I can get data out of them. I would sure appreciate any help!
    Thanks,
    Chenster

    Hi Gary,
I have seen this issue occur with users who have this registry setting missing or have improper permissions.
When you double click the attachment to launch the pdf it is saved and opened from the temporary folder unless saved specifically to a location.
If you dont have the below mentioned registry key or improper permissions then attachments fail to open.
Please  heck if the following reg key exists:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
    or
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
    Value Name: OutlookSecureTempFolder
If the value exists, and if the value contains a valid path, Outlook 2010 uses that location for its temporary files.
If the registry value does not exist, or if the value points to an invalid location, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2003 creates a new subdirectory under the Temporary Internet Files directory and then puts the temporary file in the new subdirectory. The name of the new subdirectory is unknown and is randomly generated, depending on your version of Outlook.
    Please check the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
Note the location for: OutlookSecureTempFolder key
Check if the same folder exists in the following location and if not create a corresponding folder in the location on C:\Users\<User account name>\Appdata\Local\Software\Microsoft\Windows\......

  • How to remove security from pdf created in Acrobat pro 10 to allow addition of watermark?

    Hi All,
I am a newbie to the forum. I have a dynamic form created in acrobat pro 10. Each time I open the form to add watermark on it, i have a message that says " You don't have sufficient permissions to perform this tasks" and as a result the watermark process will not proceed.
When I created the form, I save the form with no security in the default. But,when you click on the form properties, it will display that this form has some pdf restrictions such as :
Changing the document " Not Allowed" .
    Document assembly " Not Allowed"
    Page extraction " Not Allowed"
Filling of form fields " Allowed"
    Page exratction " Not Allowed"
    and host of other restrictions.
My question is how will I change this dynamic fillable form to allow all options as "Allowed" as this pdf form has some restrictions.
If all options are allowed like in normal pdf, I am able to add the watermark but when a restiction is placed, the message "You dont have sufficient permissions to perform this task is displayed.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I need to add the watermark as a control for this forms during distribution. If you want me to send the attachment and the message, i would greatly welcome it.
    Many Thanks!
    Lovina

    Hi George,
Yes, the form was created in livecycle designer. So, what can I do to add
the watermark and removed the options of not allowed to allow acrobat to add
    watermark?
    Many Thanks!

  • What happened to the Acrobat Pro 9.x updates? I was doing them Friday and today they vanished.

There were many updates for Acrobat Pro 9 on the website last week and I was downloading and updating my copy. (I have a version that came with a scanner so I'm not inclined to buy a new version.) Now they vanished. Are they now somewhere else?

That's Adobe! There is no longer support for this product. I have CS4 Design Premium. After reinstall (in OSX 10.6) I got:
a not working Adobe Updater 6 in last version (incl. rights management patch). I think, they set it completely out of service.
hoped for the last versions of included CS4 apps via (still existing) download from Adobe Server, but they come in bloody 1st version (sic!), you get Acrobat 9.0.0
This is the Adobe document: End of support | Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 (and earlier)
That's unbelievable. The Acrobat 9 Pro Updates are security relevant and til 9.5.5 we payed for it!
What you can do (not Acrobat 9 Pro):
If you use a CS4 version: Try to install plugins, patches and updates manually (PS 11.0.2, ID 6.0.6 etc.)
Try to get an Acrobat X Box, Acrobat X updates are still online.

  • Security violation error (error code 2148532330) in Acrobat Pro XI with Windows 8

I have two certificates, physically residing on the same (Belgian) government issued smart card. One is labeled "Authentication" (Intended usage: sign transaction), and the other is labeled "Signature" (Intended usage: sign document). I have been trying to add a signature to a pdf document in Acrobat Pro XI (trial) on WIndows 8 Home (64 bit). It works perfectly with the "Authentication" certificate, but all attempts with the "Signature" certificate yield the following error:
    Error encountered while signing:
The Windows Cryptographic Service Provider reported an error:
Access was denied because of a security violation.
    Error Code: 2148532330
The only relevant difference between both certificates that I have been able to spot, is in the "key usage" field of the certificate ("sign transaction" versus "sign document"). Any thoughts on what might be wrong?
    Thanks.

I assume you are implying "biztax" application here, right?
I have contacted their program lead, with no result at all.
Past days I have been searching for a solution - reinstalls / new systems - no solution.
This issue appeared a week or two ago only.
I found http://forums.adobe.com/message/5338853 useful - but no positive results either.
    http://test.eid.belgium.be/faq/faq_nl.htm obviously didnt help either.
If anyone finds a solution to this issue, please do let me know - any help is appreciated.
Biztax tells to use the "signature", not the "authentication"  - but it is only Auth. that is showing up as option to sign (that works)
ps, did you fiddle with the Adobe Reader XI security settings and import that PKI etc as well? I hoped that would be the breaktrough. Sadly i'm still crying in my chair.
Oh, and dont forget: they claim nobody else got this issue. Maybe one or two people. (We got about 8 customers experiencing exactly the same symptoms at the same time )
    >  I noticed that when I try to open the pdf  document that is 'signed' by the government it is not showing the filename in the title bar, but only " - Adobe Reader".    every piece of info helps I guess.
Obviously last version of Reader   11.0.03

  • Security settings change from Acrobat Pro to Reader

I have set the Security Method in Acrobat Pro to allow "commenting, filling in form fields, and signing existing signature fields."  But when I send the PDF file my customer who opens the document using Adobe Reader, commenting is not allowed.  Why is the security setting changing?  What can be done to correct this problem?

Are you sure this is not a limitation of the product?
"Reader" describes a product that reads a file and nothing more.
Have you looked at the Acrobat Professional's "Help" for information about enabling 'commenting'?

  • Security matching between Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Reader

I've created a PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro that requires information to be filled out in boxes as well as signatures to complete the form. I've tested the form on different computers that bring it up in Adobe Reader. I'm trying to make them compatible. My Security options on Pro for the document show that everything is allowed (printing, changing the document, signing, etc.) but when it is opened up in Reader it shows most of those as Not Allowed.  I need to change that but I'm not sure how. I need the form to be compatible for Reader so that others can fill out the information needed and then submit via email back to me. Please advise on what to do to make that happen, if possible. I need details! Thanks!!

You can enable certain features in Reader, such as digitally signing and saving, by Reader-enabling the document in Acrobat. Exactly how you do this depends on what version of Acrobat you're using:
A9: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader
A10: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features
A11: File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save)
