Security Patch APSB07-02 fails to install correctly

I have followed the instructions (although they skipped the
step about WHERE the wsconfig.jar file should be placed - in the
lib directory, btw) at
http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb07-02.html
and when I run the command "java -Dtrace.ci=1 -jar wsconfig.jar
-upgrade -v" from the lib directory I receive a prompt back that
says the file is "corrupt or the wrong version of wsconfig.jar."
This is for the multi-server version running jrun4 updater 6.
Any help would be appreciated... thanks.

I figured out the problem after working with another user on
this forum, so I will post what I sent to Adobe as the answer.
In this security bulletin:
http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb07-02.html
several steps are simply left out of the process. We are using the
multi-server version with Jrun4 Updater 6, so I will use that as my
example and fill in the missing steps. The steps with >>
<< surrounding them are missing from the bulletin.
Backup the existing {jrun_root}\lib\wsconfig.jar to
wsconfig.jar.bu.
Download the hot fix (wsconfig-U6-65311.jar - 2.5 MB).
>> Unzip the file downloaded (wsconfig-U6-65311.zip) It
contains two files called wsconfig-U6-65311.jar and another file
called jrun-hotfix-65311.jar <<
>> Rename wsconfig-U6-65311.jar to wsconfig.jar
<<
Stop all ColdFusion MX servers, JRun servers and IIS (WWW
Publishing Services). Also stop the Windows Management
Instrumentation service to unlock the IIS connector.
Note: This step is important for ISPs. With IIS running, the
connector installer shuts down and restarts each site during the
upgrade, causing the upgrade to take much longer.
>> Move the wsconfig.jar file that you renamed to the
{jrun_root}\lib directory. <<
Navigate to the \jrun4\lib directory and run the connector
upgrade:
cd {jrun_root}\lib
java -Dtrace.ci=1 -jar wsconfig.jar -upgrade -v
Make sure the upgrade completed successfully.
Inspect {jrun_root}\lib\wsconfig\wsconfig.log for errors
Check the version tab of
{jrun_root}\lib\wsconfig\(number)\jrun_iis6_wildcard.dll. The
"Product Version" item name field should indicate 4,0,6,108407
Another way to check the version is to query the
wsconfig.jar directly as follows:
java -jar wsconfig.jar -info
The command should return, "Macromedia JRun 4.0 (Build
108407)".
>> Move the file jrun-hotfix-65311.jar that you
unzipped earlier and save in {jrun_root}\servers\lib.

My hard drive fried and had to be replaced. I'm trying to install CS4 from my original discs but keep getting this error message - "One or more of the required components of Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Standard failed to install correctly". A customer service rep gave me a link to download off the Adobe site, but when I try to open the file to run it, I get this error message - "A problem occurred extracting the archive".
    Can anyone help?

Yep.  Nothing happens at all. Windows tries to execute the uninstaller, but I don't get any other screen and all activity stops for the MSI.  I monitored it in Process Monitor and the MSI executable appears, but is quickly ended, like it couldn't find anything or something.
It's as if windows has a blank entry in Programs and Features, because it used to show the size of the Adobe application in the "Size" column.  Now it's just blank.  Link to screenshot below:
    http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/5006/screenshotcaf.jpg
Note the install date.  That's when I was able to successfully reinstall it.  Now I can't even do that.  I should also mention I tried Revo Uninstaller.  It deleted one small registry key, but nothing changed.
By the way, is the CS cleaner supposed to ask for a disc in the drive when you run it?  It refused to run unless I had one in it, so I used my install dvd.

The StarOffice patches are most likely being recommended as there are one or more SUNWstaroffice packages installed on the system, but the patch installation cannot complete due to an incomplete installation of StarOffice. Check for any installed StarOffice packages and remove them if present:

Hello i've been really exited to donload photoshop and so i decided to try the free version i downloaded creative cloud and went into th eapps and click on photoshop try it free i waited a few 30 mins and it stopped and told me this
installation failed installation completed through some components failed to instal correctly.
and then i was like whatttt?!?!?!?!?
so I decided to come here and ask why this is happening please answer ASAP I really need photoshop for important stuff!!!

Try restarting your computer, then try again. Awhile back, some of the apps which I think included photoshop require the microsoft runtime to be updated. That runtime requires a restart to finish installing. But since it is a piggyback program, the error code telling you do so is hidden in the log file.
If it still does not install let us know.

  • Recommended patch 125541-02 fails to install

Patch 125541-02 fails to install. When it is running patchadd perhaps, it complains that the dependency package SUNWthunderbird is not present. I am not inclined to search and add support for it unless it is necessary. I tried it five different hosts running Solaris 10. The results are the same.

I had exactly the same results on a Sun Blade running Sol 10 11/06. The patch will not install using update manager, or with smpatch add -i, or from the manually downloaded patch using patchadd.
The following requested patches have packages not installed on the system

Patch 124171-01 fails to install on an Ultra-80 and a V210 models. I installed it manually to get the message that the "SUNWscnbase-r" package is not installed so the patch is aborted.
The Ultra-80 runs Solaris 10 release 03/2005. The V210 runs Solaris 10 01/2006. I typically load everything in the installs so this patch should not have been recommended to them.

I figured it out. I had sym-linked my /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5 to the macports version of Python. Restoring this back to the original 2.5.1 version fixed the problem.
If anyone else is having issues installing this update, make sure you restore anything you've modified (listed here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3438) to the stock versions.

Now I've got a question: How to tell smpatch command that I don't need patch 120536-08?

    Hello,
Please can you provide us with the following information and fowarded it to the "[email protected]", do not post this information on the forum:
Go to var/sadm/spool/cache/Database on the machine in question. There should be a single file there named
https*current.zip. Copy this file to some temporary location and unzip it. You should get two files, one named patchlist.delimited.
    Do the following three things:
    #grep ^120536 patchlist.delimited
    #smpatch get
    #uname -a
Have you used the recommend optionif so what was the output:
-x idlist=<file> option and exclude this patch
With regards to your enquiry for Update Manager not working on non-global zones. This is not strictly true there are somes limitation to what the smpatch command can do in this environment. The limitation of Update Manager in a non-global zone environment are detail in the FAQ below:
    http://www.sun.com/service/sunupdate/faq.html
However this issue has been addressed in the latest revision of Sun Update - Sun Update Connection Client, System Edition 1.0.4 - patch 121119-05.
This can be download from the link below, along with instructions for installation and patch dependancies:

  • Security Update 2008 007 failed to install

I just attempted to install Security Update 2008 007 but it reported installation failure. Do I try again or wait for another version?

How did you try to install it? Via Software Update or from a direct download?
    About Security Update 2008-007
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3216
It can be downloaded from here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/security_updates/
Make sure you choose the correct version for your system!
Try re-installing it again, but repair permissions first, and don't forget that it requires a re-start.

  • Error message: Installation completed but some optional components failed to install correctly.

The above error message, with (6) at its end, appears when I try to download AI CC.  There are no fatal errors, just "optional" ones, but the program installation fails and there's no way to complete it without the optionals.  I've seen this message before with other program downloads, but those have been resolved, I think by running CC Cleaner on the entire CC installation and starting again.  I'd like to solve this without having to uninstall and reinstall my other apps, especially the larger ones, since the time suck is huge.  Has anyone else resolved this problem?
I've had lots of problems trying to get CC apps set up--some have been solved by Adobe, apparently, as they disappear, and a couple by me.  I'm also currently unable to download the latest PS bug fix, though the first one installed fine. Is this new system going to get itself sorted soon?
I've run CC Cleaner several times--though no AI CC appears on the list--and have signed out of the Cloud and back in.  Computer runs Windows 7, 64 bit.

I am pasting below the error log for today's attempt to download/install AI
CC.  The number and specific types of non-fatal errors changes will change
    with each attempt.
I am not inclined (nor have I time) to try to troubleshoot these errors
myself and will, when I have time, call consumer support to deal with this
(and with installing latest PS CC bug fixes).  Earlier this year, I spent
upwards of 24 actual hours with Adobe techs on what turned out, after
several weeks, to be an Adobe server malfunction.  Adobe's customers should
not have to become Adobe (or computer) techs in order to have access and
use of programs for which we pay.  If you can read this error log and
suggest a fix, I would obviously be much appreciative.
