Security Question: Is A Clean Install Enough To Erase Account Info?

Hi,
I'm selling my eMac. I performed a clean-install of the OS to completely erase the hard drive. Will this be enough to prevent a hacker from accessing my bank account info, etc. that was in my Quicken?
Stew

depends on whose looking i would say. If you can boot into the OS, why not run the secure erase empty space feature. It should overwrite the "blank space" 7 times with 0's. I think its in disk utility. This is probably enough.
But dont sue me if you identity gets stolen (just kidding)

If you can't get the answers emailed to you, phone Apple from a number listed in article HE57 and ask for the Account Security team.

  • I am trying to recover my iTunes security questions, but my only option is to send the info link to an e-mail I do not have access to on weekends...

I am trying to recover my iTunes security questions, but my only option is to send the info link to my work e-mail.  I won't be at work until Monday.  Any suggestions on changing this option?

    Hi Carollmt,
I love sharing playlists with people too.  The instructions for syncing an iPod can be found at the following link:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1351
If is the first time you are syncing your husband's iPod with your computer, it will remove his music currently on his iPod and replace it with the music you are trying to sync.  If you don't want to remove the music currently on your husband's iPod, you can transfer your music to his iTunes library using Home Sharing.  Expand the Home Sharing section in the following article for steps to setup Home Sharing and use it to transfer music:

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • Do not know the answer to security questions. These are not active on my account so therefore cannot answer them??

Can anyone help me with the above question? I can't answer the 3 security questions as they are not set on my account, I am trying to download music from iTunes but I cannot do it without answering the 3 questions.

Click here and search the article for '2 out of 3' without the quotes; in the case of forgotten answers, this generally involves either a message being sent to your rescue email address or contacting the iTunes Store staff directly.

  • I can't download apps! Every time I try, it asks me to chose a security question and I try, but I just comes up with a blank screen and I can't choose a question. If I click no, I don't want to put security questions, it doesn't install the app. HELP!

I can't do it! I am willing to add questions but I can't because it just shows me a blank screen. I even tried rebooting my entire iPad2 and that didn't work. I know it is not a certain app because I tried multiple ones.... HELP!

Hi all! I have found the answer in another forum and this has 100% worked for me!!!
    1) Quit App Store in multi-tasking.
•From the Home screen, click the Home button twice.
•Tap and hold on the app.
    •When it starts to jiggle, tap the red  ⛔ in the top corner to close it;
***Please close all open apps on your phone***
    2) Tap Settings.
    3) Tap Safari.
    4) Tap Clear History.
    5) Tap the Clear History button.
    6) Tap Clear Cookies and Data.
    7) Tap the Clear Cookies and Data button
    See the answer in context
I hope this helps a lot of people!! Spread the word (seeing as apple doesn't seem to want to/care!)

  • How do I do a clean install, and keep mail accounts?

A little background: We have several Macs, and several email accounts. We're buying new machines and on some would like to mostly start over, using the App Store to install programs as each machine requires, cutting out a lot of the disk loading.
The most important goal is to get a fresh install, BUT keep all the various Mail accounts (let's establish that as a starting point). BTW: All our machines have the same Mail accounts across the board.
What I'm getting so far is a bloated HDD when I try to upgrade directly over Snow Leopard, and a nice tight machine that lacks the Mail accounts when doing a clean install.
SPECIAL REQUEST: I normally appreciate when people take guesses about offering solutions, BUT in this case I would appreciate it if answers addressed the specific question of preforming an almost clean install that retained all the email accounts, their configurations, and their messages. I realize that the solution request here may be a bridge too far, but I thought I would ask because I suspect a lot of people moving to the mid-2011 MacBook Air might need such a solution too.
    Thanks in advance!
    Chris

    Found the answer elsewhere.
Working with 2 machines; original one with Snow Leopard and the source email accounts/messages/etc., and a second machine with a Clean Install of OSX 10.7 Lion loaded to a fresh or reformatted hard drive. In my case, coming from a 24" iMac (320GB HD) that had the source email accounts I wanted to keep, and going to a new mid-2011 MacBook Air with 128GB HD.
Long story short, starting from the "user"/Library/... account on the Snow Leopard machine, 3 things have to be copied to the Lion machine and placed in the same directories:
    /Keychains
    /Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    /Mail (folder)
Keep in mind that the user Library is a hidden folder in Lion.

  • How do I get my gmail account unlocked, it has been hacked and even security questions changed. I can't access the account to change the password.

Someone used one of my two gmail accounts to send emails to both of my gmail accounts and one of my yahoo accounts - using all my contacts on the three accounts - saying I was in Scotland and needed money, please send it. I have changed the password on my other gmail and the yahoo accounts but the email account used to send that message to all my contacts I can no longer access, appear to be locked out. Even the security question is different than the ones I established. A friend did respond, was emailed back that I as at the Raddison Hotel in Edinborough and he called that hotel to be told I was not registered there. So - what do I do now? I've been told by yahoo that is it a browser problem. I have not heard back from google. Help!

I gave in and am now using IMAP but I still find the behaviour a bit wierd...

  • How do i delete a icould email from my iphone when i no longer have access to the email address and my security questions dont match to get in to the account?

I am trying to delete my icloud account from my iphone as i no longer have access to this email and when i try to challenge the security question to access the account apparently i dont know my own date of birth. I cant delete the account as i dont remeber the passwrod and i have a new icloud account that i would like to link the phone to. Any help would be appreciated
    thanks

If the old ID (iCloud account) is yours, and if it is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
This will not work if your current ID is an entirely new ID and is not a newer version of the old ID.

Ok, so I had the same problem. What you should do is, call the
    Apple Technical Support number: (44) 0844 209 0611
And ask for the Account Security Team. This worked for me.

  • HT1911 I answer my security questions correctly and still can't access my account

What action can I take to access my account after I provided the answers to the security questions and the system says my answers are incorrect.
    I know they are correct

You might want to get confirmation on the answers per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 or by using the ExpressLane at https://expresslane.apple.com and then iTunes and iTunes Store.  Might be worth changing them if they suggest doing that.

  • Clean install (as in Erase and Install): Is there a step-by-step yet??

    Hi everyone.
I always install all my systems on a freshly formatted HDD.
Should I just format the disk with disk utility to do a clean install? I guess so.

Should I just format the disk with disk utility to do a clean install?
If you're installing Mac OS X 10.6, yes. Otherwise, an Erase & Install option is provided by the Installer.
