Security Question Linux 2.6.18-164.el5 - Home User Directory Changed

I logged into my unix account and was unable to update any folders or create files. The ownership has changed. This is the second occurrence where the first time the tech support denies it occurred. Didn't have any screenshots... Now I have screenshots for evidence. How can I determine when this happened or the user responsible?

I logged into my unix account and was unable to update any folders or create files. The ownership has changed.Your description is not much help. It does not provide any information, such as:

What was the new file permissions? (Hint: ls -ld $HOME)

What file ownership should the directory have? (Hint: ls -ld $HOME after the file permissions are repaired.

Were you logged on to the system when the change occurred?

How is the $HOME directory mounted? Local disk? NFS mount? SAN? Thumb drive?

Who else was logged into the system when this happened?

Did this happen after a system reboot?

What did tech support actually do to repair the file permissions?

In other words, give us a glimmer of an idea about your issue.

You cannot change your Rescue email address after you have forgotten your Security Questions. Once you get everything reset, you will be able to change it. For now, you are going to have to contact Apple Support to get them reset:

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then the steps half-way down this page give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 link above to add a rescue email address for potential future use

  • I forgot my answers to my security questions and the email that is suppose to send to change them won't send and I can't purchase anything on iTunes on my new iPhone without them.

The email for instructions says it sent but I don't get anything new in my inbox, it works for other email from iTunes though.

  • I have an old Apple ID connected to a discontinued e-mail address. I want to delete it. I cannot remember my password and when I try to change the password using the security questions, it rejects my birth date! I can't change it by cancelled e-mail.

I have an old Apple ID associated with a discontinued e-mail address. It keeps popping up when I try to update apps. I don't remember the password. When I try to change it by security questions, it rejects my birthdate! I can't change it by e-mail because I no longer have access to the e-mail. All I really want to do is cancel this old ID. How can I do this? Obviously, I have a new ID, since I am using this support community.

You'll have to contact iTunes store support to see if they can help you with this: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

  • HT201303 Forgot my freaking Security Question answers. i don't have a PC. how to change them on my ipod?

    please..?

I do not believe you can do this on an iPod. Try this anyway, using Safari:
Go to http://appleid.apple.com and select "Manage your account". Log in with your Apple ID and password, then select Password and Security from the left column.
You need to know the answers to your existing questions to reset them. If you don't remember your answers, there may be a link on that page where you can have a reset email send to your Rescue email address. This will not appear if you have not provided a Rescue email address, and may not appear even if you did.
If there does not seem to be any way to reset your security questions, contact iTunes Support here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ They normally respond within a business day, but it may be longer. Be sure to check your spam or junk mail folders for their response.

  • I only have iTunes on one laptop/pc, but it has asked me to authorise my iTunes over a year after I've already done it - referring to my iTunes as the 2nd out of 5, and is asking me for my security questions. But I have no other authorised users.

Apple iTunes on windows 8, linked to iPad Mini (for over a year)
I'm having an authorisation issue. I have already authorised my computer, but iTunes requested I do it again, referring to it as my 2nd linked computer out of 5 and it asking for my security questions. I only have one computer/laptop with iTunes and have authorised no other; why is iTunes telling me I've never used this computer before?

Have you reinstalled or updated the OS on the computer ? It could also just be a bug of the system.
