Security settings and problems

Hi there,
I need my new airport express set at WEP (because one computer in the house is old and cannot connect with a WPA). However, when I manually set my airport to WEP, I cannot connect other computers to the network. I tried no security--the same problem. When I tried the default WPA2, both my newer Macs connected just fine. However, the old PC cannot. Unfortunately, that old PC really does have to connect.
Any experience or advice? My old airport, which is three years old, was able to connect via WEP just fine.
Perhaps the new airports are simply not able to configure to a WEP security. Would that mean I'd have to return the airport and get a non-Mac router? <shudder>
Thank you.

Airport Express should support WEP. The fact that your computers can't access the wireless network when you have no security tells me that it isn't a WEP problem. I'm assuming you have configured your airport for settings you want to keep. If you back up this configuration, then reset the Airport, you should be able to access it through its default network. Assuming that you know how do do this (since you configured it in the first place) can your macs now see the Airport? If so, you have a configuration problem - or perhaps a corrupt configuration.

  • IE 7 patch resets security settings and disables Apex login

I have a working Apex app, and the users must use IE as one of our other applications is not certified for Firefox. Well, everything was working fine on Thursday, we were off Friday. This morning, the main Login button doesn't do anything, and I can't even log into the dev console. Firefox does seem to work.
It seems patch KB980182 resets some security settings, and the Login button doesn't do anything.
I set added my site to the Trusted Site list and everything is working now. Just another notch on my "I hate MS" totem.

  • Problems with security settings and itunes updates! What do I do?

So I preordered a cd that became available today. When I went to download it, a message came up saying that I need to download the latest version of itunes (7.-[can't remember the last part]but anyways) so I clicked on the upgrade icon. I then got a message saying "your current security settings do not allow this." No matter what I do with my security settings I keep getting this same message! I have windows xp, please help I would really really like to be able to download and listen to the cd I've paid for! Thank you in advance!

Maybe you aren't on an admin account in Windows? If not, create/logon to one and install it.
Or maybe you just need to go to the website and download it instead of updating through iTunes. Go here:

  • Security Settings and Field Extraction

Hello, I've run into a bit of a problem in .NET(C#) when trying to automate data extraction from a PDF. Specifically, I get an error stating "The document's security settings prohibit the operation being performed". The security method applied to the document is "No Security". However, the document restrictions summary says changing the document, document assembly and creation of template pages is not allowed. Below the restrictions is a paragraph that indicates that the document restricts some Acrobat features to allow for extended features in Adobe Reader. It says that I may create a copy of the document that is not restricted by using File > Save a Copy. Using the copy, I'm able to extract the data that I need.
Is there a way that I can go about removing the restrictions from the document, either on the creation side, which is done manually, or on the programming side? I haven't found a way to duplicate the "Save a Copy" functionality with AcroAppClass.Save(). Exporting data is also disabled b/c of the restrictions. I noticed that I can extract pages manually and save them to a new document, which gets rid of the restrictions, but I couldn't find a way to do that via the PIAs.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

    Ahh, I overlooked GetType(). Thanks.
Calling the saveAs method works fine when just passing one parameter (a file name to save to), but when trying to pass multiple parameters I get an internal exception. I may be passing the parameters wrong, but I'm not sure.
    For example:
    object[] arguments = new object[] { @"c:\call\test.pdf"};
    mJSObject.GetType().InvokeMember("saveAs", BindingFlags.InvokeMethod, null, mJSObject, arguments);
The documentation says there are 5 parameters:
    cPath, cConvID, cFS, bCopy, bPromptToOverwrite
    I tried using:
    object[] arguments = new object[] { @"c:\call\test.pdf", Missing.Value, Missing.Value, true, Missing.Value" };
    and this:
    object[] arguments = new object[] { @"c:\call\test.pdf", "com.adobe.acrobat.jpeg" };
Unfortunately, I get "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" when attempting to save using either of the above two methods.

  • HT2204 E-mail address now defunct but apple doesn't recognise my security settings and old password is now invalid?

    Hi,
Our original apple ID was a hotmail email address that has now been closed down as it was had a virus. I KNOW we should have changed it to our new e- mail address, but we were able to use it and log in with our password.
I have now tried to download an app and apple says my password is incorrect - it isn't, I've put it in dozens of times today and its definatley the once we have always used. As I don't have the option of changing my password via e-mail, I have gone through the security questions and apple are saying that ALL of these are also incorrect. These are basic things like date of birth, childhood street etc.
A such we cannot download anything on the iPad. Other people have had this problem with defunct e- mail addresses and it seems apple has re- set the passwords and security questions meaning we cannot access anything?
Does anyone have any advice they can offer us?
    Thanks
    Esther

It sounds like maybe your son may have changed the Primary email address for your apple id to his email address.
If you are certain that you have the right password, try signing in to the apple id website under HIS email address and your password at appleid.apple.com
If you can, than that is what he did and you only need to change it back to yours.
Then have him create his own apple id properly with his own email address.
He'll need to be at least 13 in order to be able to do it under his own birthday.
Heres' a really easy way for him to set it up without requiring your credit card.

  • Attempted to alter security settings and the result is that password no longer works.  Tried CMD R but mouse inoperative and cannot access top menu for utilities

I tried to alter security settings resulting in rejection of my password.  Tried booting using CMD R but non operating mouse pad means I cannot access top menu to select "utilities"

    jmcg60,
which security settings did you try to alter? Do you have a USB mouse that you could use in place of your non-operating trackpad?

  • How do I change my security settings and make them STAY changed?

I have set my settings in Tools - Options - Privacy - Never remember history - about a thousand times now, but it never STAYS set to that. It keeps reverting back to Use custom settings for history instead, which is annoying in the extreme and is ultimately a security risk.
This has only happened since I upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1 - it was set on Never remember history in the previous version and remained on that beautifully. How do I get this newer version to retain what I set it at please???? It's driving me mental!!!!

Only if all settings are the default then you will see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".<br />
The "Use custom settings for history" choice reverts to "(Never) Remember history" if all History and Cookies settings are the default.<br />
If you see "Use custom settings for history" then at least one of the History / Cookie settings is not the default.
If you select "Never Remember history" then you enter Private Browsing mode and "Permanent Private Browsing mode" will be selected.

  • Any way to exclude BPC security settings and profiles from backup/restore?

We are on BPC 10 MS and restoring the PROD version to a DEV environment, but do not want to restore the security profiles.   Need to figure this out before new BPC development is sent back to PROD with same b/u restore process.  DEV security is different than PROD and we do not want the security profiles/settings in DEV to overlay PROD...

    Hi Mike,
No automate process to maintain different set of users in both environments while restoring . Manually manage after refreshed based on required user profiles.

  • Flash Security Settings and Random Questions not Displaying

    Hey folks,
I created a Captivate 4 project with 3 slides and a question pool of about 70 questions in which I am randomly pulling in. I am using IE7 and Flash 10. Publishing in Flash 10. If I publish or view in Preview in a web browser the project launches, plays the first 3 slides, and then goes blank when the first question should appear. Note: previewing the project AND publishing the project as an .exe does launch and display all the questions correctly. It ends up being a flash security issue. I went to the adobe site and via the Adobe Flash Player Security Manager" I entered in the main .SWF captivate-generated file as a trusted file and then re-ran the published captivate project and it ran correctly. Question is ... what do I need to do to set up flash or my project so I don't have to do this for every new project that I deploy? I don't want to have the users have to go in and add whatever I deploy as a trusted file. It's also a little confusing as to why the first three slides played and it stopped at the questions ... seems like if it's not a trusted file, that it wouldn't run at all.
    Thanks for any help!
    Chris

    Hello again
I think I'd be investigating a temporary web server to host on until things are ready. Here's where it will help.
By providing files to the end users, if you are copying files over you end up having to explain how to save the files. You then have to walk them through setting the Flash Security so they can properly view. It all just becomes a pain in the kazoo.
If you can find some server space, you simply upload the content and provide a link for the users to view the content.
Other than that, if you are insistent that copying is the way to fly, I might suggest you establish a known location where you want everyone to copy their files. Perhaps C:\TestFolder. Then provide some instruction on how to configure the folder with the relaxed Flash Security. From there forward, anything they copy to the folder should need no security adjustment.
    Cheers... Rick

  • HT5624 account disabled for security settings and timed out

How do I disable my account as unable to enter my password as timed out message appears every time and also a message
my account has been disabled for security reasons

    See this support article:
Apple ID: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons"  appears
and then reset your account, as in "I forgot ..." on the My AppleID page.
    Reset your account password
If your account was partially disabled for security reasons, use iForgot (http://iforgot.apple.com/) to reset your account. This should restore your access to the disabled services. You can also click the “Reset Password” or “Forgot Password?” buttons that appear in the alert message.

  • I cannot get into the iTunes store on my computer.  The last time I was able to do so was in February. The website doesn't help me. I authorized it on my Security Settings and it still doesn't work.

I need help configuring my computer for the iTunes store. What can I do?

You don't have the iPad connected to the computer with the cable while you are trying to download apps on the iPad do you?
I'm running out of ideas here. Try this, reboot your iPad and then try again. If you are connected to the computer, disconnect the iPad first.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Problems with Flash Security issues and Captivate projects

    Hello,
We're putting together a flash based eLearning course that has been created primarily in Adobe Captivate with flash plugins. The course consists of several modules, all which are embedded into HTML files that are linked to each other.
Our client wants the project on a CD, which is starting to create some problems. Everytime the project goes to open another HTML/flash page, the security issue comes up that mentions that the flash player is trying to communicate to the internet.
Now usually the way to get around this is to go into the security settings and add the CD as an accepted URL - however we can't do this for several reasons. The main one is that we are encasing it within Firefox Portable (included within the CD and as such, read only) and the computers it is being used on may not be connected to the internet.
Any idea how we can get around this? Are the flash player settings stored somewhere locally on your computer, and can we configure them there? (perhaps through an ini or something) to place on the CD with the plugin for Firefox Portable? Is there a simpler way to address this that we're just not seeing?
    Thanks,

    Hi there
    I agree with Michael.
Server2Go is also what I'd have offered. The mention of Firefox portable sound intiguing, but I'm really skeptical that it will do what is needed in this case.
In case it will help, here are some steps for Server2Go.
Download the Server2Go software from http://www.server2go-web.de/download/download.html
    Choose the Micro package
This should result in receiving a zip file named distribute_apache1.3_micro.zip
Unzip the contents of the zip file to the root of your hard drive ( C:\ )
This should create a folder named distribute_apache1.3_micro
Open this folder and delete the following files and folders inside:
    Files:
    splash.bmp
    logo.ico
    readme.txt
    Folders:
    dlls
    dbdir
    cgi-bin
Open the htdocs folder and delete all files and folders inside.
Copy all of your Captivate output files to the htdocs folder
Rename the HTML page Captivate created to index.htm
Copy the contents of the distribute_apache1.3_micro folder to the CD-ROM and test!
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Security settings for all users

I recently developed a document that requires digital signatures and have been testing it. The only downside is that when a user opens the document, Adobe prompts for the installation of new security settings, and it installs it for that user only. I need to add a registry key to the new security settings, but it is only available to be added to the current user hive. Does anyone know how to install the new settings for all users?
Here is the registry key I need to add.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\9.0\Security\cPubSec]
    "bSelfSignCertGen"=dword:00000000
Im using Adobe Reader 9.3 and Win XP.
    Any help would be terrific!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
There are really two separate issues. First, is Adobe pushing updates to the Acrobat Address Book (i.e. adding certificates as trust anchors) and the second issue is how you can push your own update to disable the creation of self-signed digital IDs. Although the two issues share an underlying mechanism, they are separate and you cannot leverage one for the other.
First issue first. Adobe has entered into partnership with certain Certificate Authorities and has created a mechanism to add their certificates to the Acrobat Address Book (aka Manage Trusted Identities) using http to send a copy of the Security Settings file that contains only digital IDs. There are two ways to trigger the download process. One is to go into the Preferences, select Trust Manager, and click the Update Now button in the Automatic Updates group box. The other method is to load the DigSig plug-in (beginning with Acrobat 9, plug-ins no longer load a launch in order to speed up the launch process). As I'm sure you have deduced, opening a file with a signature field cause the DigSig plug-in to load which in turn triggers the automatic download. The reason we have limited the automatic download to DigSig being loaded is because the vast majority of people viewing PDFs are not using the digital signature functionality (much to my personal chagrin because the more people use digital signatures, the better my job security ) and we didn't want to bother them with an update they would never need. People already complain that there are too many updates, and we are trying to limit the irritability factor. To close the loop on this function, once the download process has been triggered the Acrobat check two more things before it does the update, 1) has it been a month since I checked and, 2) if it has been a month is there a new file to download. This way we are not pestering people with unneeded updates, or if they do need the update, at least not too often. And finally, Address Book management has to be on a per user basis. A certificate that you may elect to trust could be a certificate that the next person want to specifically keep untrusted. The Windows Certificate Store, Mac Keychain and Firefox Certificate Manager all work on a per user basis.
That brings us to what you would like to do. The good news is you can use the Export Security Settings featrue to create a distributable file that will set the preference. The real question is how will you distribute the file, but before we get to that, here is how to create the file.
With Acrobat closed, set the registry setting you noted in the message above
    Launch Acrobat
Select the Advanced > Security > Export Security Settings menu item
Click the Deselect All button on the Export Security Settings dialog
Select the Signing Preferences Settings checkbox
Click the OK button on the Export Security Settings dialog
Select Signature Creation Settings and note "Allow creation of self-signed Digital IDs" is set to No
Click the Export button on the toolbar
Follow the on screen dialogs. You don't have to encrypt the file, but you must sign it with a certifying signature
At this point you have the file available for distribution. You could e-mail it to your intended recipients with import instructions, or you could post if for download, or you could set the Preference the to automatically push the file from a server. To check this feature out select the Edit > Preferences menu item and then select Security from the Categories list box. You would need to select the Load security settings from a server checkbox and then set up the URL. As an aside, you can also export these settings by selecting the Automatic Update Settings checkbox on the Export Security Settings dialog noted in the bullet points above. You have a chicken and egg problem in that you have to get the users to first manually import the file in order to set up the automatic import. That I can't help you with, you're just going to have to decide what works best for you.
    Good luck,
    Steve
