Security- To get or not to get?

I'm relatively new to the Mac world. Having a great experience thusfar. Security has been on my mind though. Is it essential that I buy anti-virus / anti-spyware software? The word I get from more experienced Mac users is, "Nah, it's not really necessary." Is this true?
Additionally I was looking at my system preferences and my firewall is set at "allow all incoming connections". Is this a huge vulnerability for me? Should I change the setting? Or is it not really a big deal.
Many thanks in advance

Hi Jimmy,
Welcome to the Apple discussions forum for "users to users"
NO, this is not necessary ... to buy any virus protection.
You can download a free script application called ... "ClamXav" you will find it with Google, sorry don't have the download link right now.
Good luck ... and don't worry that anything happens to your Mac.
For any other support or questions you got ... feel free to ask ... But before posting a NEW topic check out the data base on your right hand under "Search" there are tons of already asking questions and the hints and answers to it. A good change that you find your question in there before posting.

Launch Firefox beta and get this dialog box: "The operation can not be completed because of an internal failure. A secure network communication has not been cleaned up correctly." Firefox then goes on to seemingly launch ok. Why am I getting this security warning? And what does it mean?

what the heck, i want to change my security questions but im not getting the emails that allow me to

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

  • Can I change the email where the security questions get send to if I forgot ??

Can I change the email where my security question gets send to it says " send reset security info email to [d******@hotmail]
and I don't know who's email is that ? can I change that and if I can can you guys help me please it means a lot

Not without correctly answering two of them. You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

When I try to setup my new iPad air, I go through all the steps for the iCloud sign-in and choosing security questions and what not. But after I hit the agree to the terms and conditions... It says Apple ID could not be created because of a server error. Have no clue what to do... I've restarted the iPad and get the same message. But my internet works just fine.

  • Outlook 2013 - Password change breaks S/MIME Certs "An error occurred in the underlying security system. Key not valid for us in specified state."

AD password change comes up, user changes password.
Tries to send signed or encrypted email with a Comodo S/MIME certificate, and gets the following error:
""An error occurred in the underlying security system.  Key not valid for us in specified state."
I now have two reports of this error - one on Windows 7, and one on Windows 8.0 (remote user).
The one on Windows 8.0, we tried removing their S/MIME cert from Outlook/Windows and re-adding, this did NOT resolve the issue.
Plan was originally to have the 8.0 user ship their machine in, and wipe it, since nothing else could fix it and I wasn't finding anyone else with the same issue.  Now that I've got a second user with the same issue, its looking like a bug/issue and
    not a random glitch.
Thanks in advance for any and all help with this!

  • The Security Token Service is not available error on dedicated Distributed Cache server

I have an error on a dedicated Distributed Cache server stating that the Security Token Service is not available.  I was under the impression that when Distributed Cache was running on a dedicated server that the only service that should be enabled
    is Distributed Cache.
The token service is working as expected on all other servers but this one.  Does this service need to be started or should I just ignore this error message?
    Jennifer Knight (MCITP, MCPD)

as per my little experience with 2013, if STS is working fine on Web server then I am sure that sharepoint will be fine...Distributed cache stores the ST issued by STS. NO need to worry about this error.
    Token Cache
    DistributedLogonTokenCache
    This
cache stores the security token issued by a Secure Token Service for use by any web server in the server farm. Any web server that receives a request for resources can access the security token from the cache, authenticate the user, and provide access to the
    resources requested.
I would say check the ULS logs and get more details about the error why its not working on that server.

  • CreateJaznUser: import oracle.security.jazn.oc4j.JAZNUserManager not found

    Hello!
I need to create a function that could allow Application users to change their passwords.I use a JAZN authentication in the application. So, I decided to analyze contents of the CreateJaznUser application first. But compilation of this application breaks by the next error:
    import oracle.security.jazn.oc4j.JAZNUserManager not found
Could you advise me, what an additional libraries I must add to the CreateJaznUser application and where can I download them from?
    Thanks in advance.

OID 3.0.1.0 is the latest product release to public. I did add the Install data to allow it to work. I see the data in OID but when I connect with jazn I get error.
    java -jar jazn.jar -shell
    JAZN:> ls
    realms policy
    JAZN:> cd realms
    JAZN:> ls
String index out of range: 32
    JAZN:> cd ../policy
    JAZN:> ls
    JAZN:> exit
    JAZN:>
It does not error on policy dirictory but it does on the realm side. If I watch the tcp packets it is working.

  • I have changed bank details and do not have 3 digit security number. When trying to update bank details my security ? answers are not recognised.

I have changed my bank details and no longer have my 3 digit security number. I have tried to change my bank details but my security question answers are not recognised. What should I do?

All credit cards have a security number, on the back of the card. If you don't have your card, then you will not be able to enter in that credit card. This is a standard security precaution to keep someone who gets hold of your card number but not the card itself from being able to make charges to your account. You will need to contact your bank and get a replacement card.
As to your security questions, go to:
    https://appleid.apple.com/
Click "Manage My Account", sign in, and go to the Password and Security section. Answer the security questions and you'll be taken to a screen where you can then change them. If you've forgotten your answers, there should be a link just under the security questions fields where you can have a reset email sent to your Rescue email address. If the link for the email doesn't appear, as can happen if you didn't set a rescue email address or (apparently) have a .Mac email address, see the user tip created by Kappy, another user here, on how to proceed:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551
