Security Update 2005-009 and Illustrator CS1

Today I updated with Security Update 2005-009. Tonight Illustrator CS1 is behaving very wacky. Whenever I use the Undo command everything on my art board moves around. I've deleted my Illustrator preferences, but it still happens.
Has anyone else noticed this and is there a workaround. It will be a few more weeks until I have CS2.
Thank You

I'm trying to figure out how to fix this.
I rebooted into a techtool pro e-drive and repaired permissions (as well as some other repairs to the drive, etc), but it still is crashing.
I created a new user and opened mail just fine there.
So... it is something in my account. Not sure exactly what to do next?

I'm having the same exact problem. (See Mail 2.0.5 crashes when I get new mail). I deleted my preferences & my junk mail settings, to no avail.
A remarkable number of other people are posting with similar problems, just in the past week or so alone, and as far as I can tell, no one has figured it out. There is definitely a bug here. I have a hunch that it may be related to a recent software update. I'm going to post this to the other threads in hopes of garnering some attention from Apple.
For posterity's sake, I am connecting to a Gmail account, a POP account, and a .Mac account.

  • Trouble after installing Security Update 2005-009

After installing Security Update 2005-009 I experienced some minor problems with Dashboard where some widgets no longer work and a more annoying problem with CodeTek VirtualDesktop Pro, which exits directly after launching the app (the desktop pager and menu appear and then the app quits). Tried repair of permissions, deleting of VirtualDesktop Pro's prefs, reinstalling the app, etc. - so far nothing helped. CodeTek does not answer my support requests. Has anyone experienced similar problems?

I would completely uninstall all 3rd party widgets. Restart. Then see if the problem goes away.
It's likely to be an issue with one of your widgets. And possibly a combination of specific one with a specific another.

  • Security Update 2005-009(Panther Client) and TextPander conflict

For those of you using Peter Maurer's excellent TextPander, a word of caution. If TextPander is in your Startup Items, when you install the latest security update, there seems to be a conflict. I was caught in a loop after the required restart and couldn't access my account through System Preferences to pull the program from my Startup Items.
I finally got things to work after logging out of my account, logging in another Admin user account I keep in case things get ugly like this, logged out of the second account and logged back in my primary account. This back and forth logging in and out enabled me to access, finally, the Accounts and disable TextPander from my Startup Items.
I have posted in my blog the process for anyone caring to read it in detail.
It could also be the order in which TextPander loaded in my Startup Items that wasn't correct after this latest update but I'm not about to experiment with that! I will load it manually instead. I will also try to email Peter Maurer tomorrow and let him know of the conflict.
    Hope this helps someone else.

One thing I forgot to mention: like after each OS software install, I tried running Disk Utility to repair disk permissions. It would not start and I kept having the Beach Ball of Death. It was rather late, so I went to bed last night after I got Mail.app and Safari to work again.
This morning, it's back to not behaving again, even though TextPander is not running. Mail.app doesn't open a window and does not appear in the menubar but Finder says it is running. Safari can't connect.
I did the old log out trick. Ran Disk Utility from the other account, logged out and logged in my primary account and now Mail. app and Safari respond.
I will now run Preferential Treatment to see if it can't spot any corrupted pref files.
Another thing: sorry I didn't post this in the appropriate Panther subforum. It isn't an Installation & Setup problem at all. I was too tired last night to notice where I posted this. So I would appreciate if a moderator could move this topic in the right sub-forum. Thank you.
This might not be a TextPander problem after all...

  • Security update 2005 009

After upgrading to the about update I'm getting the following message:
Safari can’t open the page “https://support.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/ACAuthWeb…Key=2ddbca23a85d20e5bf747 8812379ae23&path=/login.jspa” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “support.apple.com”.

It's a Safari/iTunes problem as I can login using Netscape.
Well done Apple, this is something that you expect from Microsoft!
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I was having a similar problem with many of my programs after intalling Security Update 2005_009, including Mail, Safari, iPhoto, and Software Update.
I had used Software Update to install the update in the first place.
In the end, I got them all working again by deleting the Receipt file for the update from the folder /Library/Receipts/ (the file should be easy to find by using the sort-by-date function), and then downloading and installing the update again manually from Apple's website. I was pretty surprised when that worked... I was at my wit's end.
I don't know if that will fix it on anyone else's Mac, though, but I guess it couldn't hurt for anyone else to try it.

  • Security Update 2005-008...and a bit more:)

    Hello everyone.
I'm new to this Mac world and i'm beggining the learning process the hard way.
So i have a cople of questions to ask. first of all my iMac (a G4 700Mhz with 10.4.2) is conneted to an AOI machine for optical board inspection. a few days ago i did a security update (2005-008) and something went wrong with my AOI machine, because from what i could understand this update prevents certain .gif images from appearing (for lack of better term) and this machine operates through image comparison. Now, it seems that Apple worked that problem around but i'm not really sure of that so i'd like some input to be certain when upgrading to 10.4.3.
Second question: the inspection i perform on the AOI is sent to a PC (in .png format) for correction of the boards. Today i was unable to connect to the PC, really i'm unable to connect to any Windows server in my office (this is the only Mac on the company). I tried to look up in Mac Help but, being the newbie i am it's quite confusing for me. the only thing i realized is that an error occured when i tried to drag and drop an inspection file to the server. The error ended in -36.
    Any help, please ??
P.S.: to add to the mess, i read in Mac Help that version 10.4.3 has a fixed bug concerning connections to PC's. And i'm not sure about the upgrade because...
    Thanx
    Sagan

    Hi Sagan,
    Welcome to Discussions!
What is an AOI machine, please?
Here are some simple steps for a safe OS update, taken from my answer in
this thread. Sorry this won't address your .png problem (or perhaps it will?), but it is a good start.
"Before an OS Update or Upgrade,
    - Disconnect all periphericals.
    - Run a "Disk Repair" with Disk Utility from the install DVD.
    - Much better (if you own it): rebuild Directory with DiskWarrior.
    - You can also clean all (each separately) user account's User, Browsers and Fonts caches (Yasu), and
    - Check for corrupted Preferences (Preferential Treatment)."
Mac OS X updates are generally good for your system, BUT
--> they must be installed on a trouble-free OS.
If there were a problem, some corrupted preferences or caches, or something, the problem, instead of disappearing with the update, tends to grow...
    Good luck!
    Axl

  • Security update 2007-009, address book and palm

Since the security update 2007-009 for Leopard all my address have disappeared from my palm. They are still in address book but no longer sync to the palm (nor do they appear in Palm Desktop). I suspect the update has broken the conduit.
    Paul Mackey

However, as I understand it it is not Palm Desktop that is the problem ( I don't use it just opened it for the first time in about 3 years to see if the data loss was consistent) but the address book conduit which comes from Apple. Was going to use Missing sync (actually looked at doing so last week) but I seem to recall it has yet to be updated for Leopard. Correct?

  • Applications not responding apparently after Security Update 2007-009

Mail, iTunes, Skype, MSN Messenger, MainMenu, Emule, Safari and god know what else aren't responding after Security Update 2007-009.
    Hi,
I recently purchased a new phone that does not work with macs, so I bought an application from Feisar to make it work. The application isn't freeware, so I think it is very unlikely that it bogused my system. Anyway, I installed the software, but only afterwards noticed it didn't work for my phone model with the USb interface, only through bluetooth, which I don't have. Moreover, and, in my opinion, more importantly, I also downloaded and installed security update 2007-009. After the update, I mandatorily restarted OS X and instantly noticed Mail, iTunes, Safari, Skype and Messenger not working. I click on them on the dock, they bounce (usually once, but it has occured to be more) and nothing happens. I don't get the little arrow below the icon. I see the applications in the applications folder, so they are not missing. I searched and searched on the internet and, apparently it is, to say the least, herculeanly complicated to downgrade from a software update. I tried to repair permissions and it didn't work. I tried the apple hardware test and everything came out perfect. I restarted many times and the same keeps happening.
So I wasted half my day yesterday trying to fix this, looking into forums and trying to talk to people about it and there it absolutely no answer. Yesterday I installed the programs necessary to sync my phone in my wife's macbook and nothing bad happened. So I'm guessing it isn't about the phone plugins I installed. I've tried to download combo updates but they crash as soon as I try to install them - I even tried to install a 10.4.10 update.
This is the error message I get:
    Command: Installer
    Path: /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer
    Parent: WindowServer [114]
    Version: 2.1.9 (104)
    Build Version: 36
    Project Name: Installer
    Source Version: 1040000
    PID: 603
    Thread: Unknown
    Link (dyld) error:
    Symbol not found: _WebCoreUnicodeDirectionFunction

    Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/WebCore.frame work/Versions/A/WebCore
    /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/WebKit
I put part of in on google to check if there was anybody discussing anything related and someone suggested - bizarrely enough - updating adobe reader. I did it just in case and, of course, it didn't work. I repaired permissions a million times already, I rebooted in safe mode, I scaned the computer with apple jack (which reapetedly said that I had a "fan failure!"), I verified the disk with diskutility - which showed nothing. I tried downloading an anti-virus (ClamXav), but I couldn't open it also, I trashed my prefs, I deleted all internet plugins, but still.... nothing.
The most likely line to follow here is the "fan failure" message in apple jack. I looked inside my g5 and all fans except for the one close to the Hard Drives aren't spining. I'm not sure this means they aren't functional or whether the temperature isn't high enough for it to be turned on. Temperature must be around 26-28 degrees Celsius today. There is nothing on the internet about that fan failure that's close enough to my case.
I'm about to quit and take it to the very expensive - yet reliable - authorized tech support apple has in Rio. Any ideas, anyone?

Maybe it is a security update thing! I have had similar troubles with my CS2 and other simple apps like TextEdit not opening, just doing that single bounce... I have tried EVERYTHING and now, after reinstalling my entire system, have lost access to my own user profile.
I'm assuming you have tried starting up with your original system install disk in the computer, while you turn it on, hold the option key, it will allow you to run another hardware check, as well as to do an archive install if it comes down to that.
good luck, please let me know if you find out something else that might be causing the problems... i've noticed that alot of mac threads have similar probs listed.

  • Question Regarding Security Updates 2006-005 and 2006-006?

Okay I just noticed Apple Security Update 2006-005 and 2006-006 are available for download. Has anyone had any problems with these updates? I remember the Security Update 2006-001 was a nightmare for me -- Safari was broken after that update I had to do a complete OS reinstall then re-update to Mac OSZ 10.3.9 Panther and I only want to update if the likelihood of any problems occuring is very slim. Anyone running Mac OS X on PowerPC chips (i.e. using a PowerBook, an older iMac, Mac Mini, PowerMac etc) or on Intel chips (i.e. MacBook Pro, the new iMacs, new Mac Mini's etc) with Mac OS X Panther, Mac OS X Tiger etc having any problems with either update?

(10.3.9 Client) seems to have broken my CS2 Version Cue after loading Security Update 2006-006 via Software Update - 27MB or something.
Though afterwards all apps (Illustrator 12.0.1, Acrobat 7.0.8, PS 9.0.1 and InDesign 4.0.4) open and run fine, Version Cue disappeared from the Desktop Menu and System Preferences and says it's no longer installed, all this immediately after loading the Update and restarting.
Two restarts and a Repair Permissions haven't resolved the issue. I've downloaded the stand alone Update and have run that but without any luck. I'd had no history of any trouble with any Security Update prior to this, and have run good maintenance schedules.
I've not seen any other posts or related issues to mine, so maybe it's just my isolated event?

  • Can't Install Security Update 2007-009 With Software Update

I tried to install Security Update 2007-009 on a 10.5.1 G4 system, but the installation fails with an "unknown error". Here are the details:
    1) Software Update downloads the file and ask to Restart
    2) Get to the blue screen
    3) See these messages "Preparing target volume" and "Configuring installation"
    4) Get this error message:
The update "Security Update 2007-009" can't be installed.
The installer encountered an unknown error that failed the install. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
    5) Restart
I then deleted the "Security Update 2007-009" folder from Library->Updates and tried the update again, but got the same error.
Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it?
    Thanks.

Regarless, I downloaded the update directly from Apple Support located here:

And 2007-009 installation complete without a hitch. I have no idea what is going on with the permissions (any recommendations) but I have not found any other problems since this update was installed.

  • OS X cannot verify Security Update 2007-009, refuses to install

I keep trying to install the latest Security Update. It tells me to restart, so I do. The computer restarts and it begins to install, then I get a message that reads:

+The computer restarts and it begins to install+
The restart happens after the install is complete, not before ... it sounds like you might have a corrupt disc image so I'd just download a fresh copy from here (link below) then mount the .dmg file, then double-click on the installer package.
