Security Update 2007-005 - Cannot find Server under Server  Admin

After I installed Security Update 2007-005 all my machines began to have problems. I was able to get them all running except my server, it is a PowerMac G4 running Mac OSX Server 10.4.9. When I click on my server in Server Admin it acts as though the server does not exist. I am able to boot to the machine and connect to the shared drives from my client computers. However the web server is not working at all.

However when i disconnect and try to connect
with the hostname
When you say ‘hostname’ do you mean its .local name? or its FQDN?
the server admin buttons show up
as little padlocks instead of the normal green. It
does not let me connect.
This is intersting! Whats described is not mentioned in any Apple Server documentation that I’ve seen – perhaps someone knows different? I’ve never seen a padlock icon in Server Admin Services list. My experience has been you can connect to Server Admin and it shows green against services running, or you can’t connect but have the server left in the list and all services are red. Workgroup Manager shows a padlock if you are not authenticated to Open Directory node, is this what you mean?

  • Security update 2007-005 and airport connection

Please help. I downloaded the security update 2007 005 on my powerbook G4 Friday night. Now I cannot get on my airport. It says there was an error joining the airport network (name of my airport) It gives me 2 options try again
or ok. i have tried everything. I even tried pinging my pc that I am on now to email this to see if I could connect with anything. But the powerbook fails to send any ping. I have rebooted, both the airport and the powerbook--several times. I have looked for information
everywhere about this both in Mac Help on my computer and online and have turned up nothing that can fix this unless I want to reinstall the operating system.
My only conclusion is that the security update did this. I was online (of course) as I downloaded the update and ever since I can not get online with the airport. Thank heavens I have a PC to get email or maybe get help through a forum like this. I have been trying to fix this all weekend. In system preferences /network status it says airport is turned on but not connected to a network when there is one. Any advice?
    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have a same problem, everything worked fine until I've downloaded security update. My Airport doesn't allow me to connect to my PASSWORD protected network. My PC is working fine. The only way is to be connected to open source. Called Mac support and they blame router (it is not mac's router). Their suggestion is to reinstall whole system (and lose software I payed for) or buy new router (macs????). So I am stuck. The advice by apple support was NOT to download updates!!!!Why on Earth do they have them????

  • Delay when opening Airport menu bar item following Security Update 2007-005

When I first got this computer, there was one annoying quirk: when I clicked on the Airport menu bar item at the top right, there would be a roughly 1 second pause before the menu actually appeared. I recall hearing other people having the same experience at the time. Airport worked fine, but this delay was really annoying: since you're not sure if the system registered your click, so you click again, but then it registers the second click which causes the menu to disappear as soon as it appears, and you click again, and fall into this ridiculous cycle of fighting the sluggish menu item.
Before long, this issue disappeared following some update (I can't remember which).
After installing Security Update 2007-005, this exact same annoyance has reappeared. (I can confirm that the presence of the 802.11n Enabler update has no effect on the problem.)
Is anyone else noticing this? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

    Hi
Can you tell people how you cured the problem, so that those who search looking for answers to a similar problem know how to fix it?

  • Mac shuts down after security update 2007-005

I installed security update 2007-005 and now after going to sleep the mac just shuts down. I have repaired permissions and run DiskWarrior. It just keeps happening.

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Since I have installed security update 2007-003 and 4, DVD player was disabled. now that apple released security update 2007-005, I am now facing more serious issues with the entire system halting (the clock is frozen and the mouse turns into a beach ball... every once in a while)! I am beginning to suspect that the last three security updates need to be avoided at any cost since I have had so many problems with them!
So, in answer to your question, I would just run a clean install of OS 10.3, and never install security update 2007-004 and 5 until apple assures us that there are no more flaws in the security updates again!

  • Security Update 2007-005 (1.0) Printing & Classic problems

I installed "Security Update 2007-005" (1.0) on 5/26 and now I can't print on my Brother MFC 9800 Laser Printer or my Canon i960 due to an error. Classic has also frozen. I can't reinstall my drivers due to "errors". I am using OS 10.3.9 on a Dual 2 GHz PowerPV G5. Any ideas?

    Yrag:
    1. Make sure you have a good, up-to-date backup.
    2. Repair Disk Permissions:
While booted from your internal HDD
Go to (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left column and First Aid in main column.
Click Repair Disk Permissions at bottom left.
    3. Download and install stand-alone 10.3.9 Combo Update
    4. Reapir Disk Permissions again.
Please do post back and let me know how it goes.
    Good luck.

  • Security update 2007-005 and Imovie problem

Yesterday my macbook automatically installed security update 2007-005. I later opened Imovie HD 6 and found a problem - when opening, the program title etc was shown in the desktop menu but then the last movie I worked on started to open, putting the opening picture directly onto the top left of the desktop over everything else including the menu. The Imovie page then opened on top of this, with a blank Imovie screen. To get the movie into the screen I have to start the movie running. Imovie then seems to work OK but this leaves fragments of the first screenshot of the movie still on the desktop until overwritten by other programs or actions. What can I do about it?

  • Security Update 2007-005 (powerpc) Problems

I installed the Security Update 2007-005 (PowerPC) on May 31 on my MacBook Pro. I can't be certain, but I think since I installed it I have a spinning ball and can't do much of anything. Like something is bogging it down. It will eventually stop but will start again the minute I do anything... something is just not right. I have tried all troubleshooting techniques but found it is not possible to even try them.
Safe Boot... It automatically decides to shut down before it gets to the safe boot screen.
Disk Utility... Restarting off the disk, yes, but when I run the program I get "could not unmount disk"
Trying to run fsck -y, in single user mode (command s)... I get "Volume is journaled. No checking performed. Use the -f option to force checking.
I have no idea what to do next. I guess I will try to reinstall my system off my disks. Does anyone have any ideas... please help this is taking up so much time.

How did you install the Security Update? Did you use Software Update or did you download? Because if you downloaded the PowerPC version, well, you say you have a MacBook Pro which is an Intel machine, not a PowerPC. Software Update would automatically install the correct version for your machine.
If it dies on Safe Boot my guess is when it runs the Disk Repair function it is encountering problems it can't fix and so it quits.
To run fsck on a journaled volume you need to use this command:
    fsck -yf
which forces the file system check. At least this will tell you if it is possible to repair the disk. You might need something stronger, such as Disk Warrior.

  • Apple Security Updater 2007-004 1.1

well i hope it didnt mess anything up ? i have applied the Apple Security Updater 2007-004 1.1 not under software update but from a download at macupdate pages i later found out that this update was not for my system as it didnt show up in SU i was wondering if there will be any downfall from from applying it or it just re-applied the same update from the most previous version and the install for other systems was slightly modified ???
thanks for your time and help

I installed the update yesterday, then went home. Today when I booted up the computer I had some weird things happen.
A.) The dual monitor display is reversed. It only straightens out if I physically switch the plugs from each monitor on the back of the G-4. I've never had any problem with dual monitors before on this trusty old work-horse. I'm using old CRT 17" Mags. But I had a Samsung 203B hooked up. That used to work, now it doesn't line up straight, and won't show up as a left monitor either unless I switch the plugs.
B.) In final Cut Pro the program no longer recognizes my player. I use two, a Canon XM1 and a Sony DSR 20. I can control the canon but get no display.
Funny stuff since the upgrade yesterday. But now what do I do?
    Thanks
    LP

  • Finder restart every two seconds! After install security update 2011-005

After install security update 2011-005, I rebot my computer and every seemed normal, until I saw that started to restart the finder.
    Help me! please.
PD: I try to delete the famous "com.apple.finder.plist" but I can't found them.
    Is a MacBook Pro 13''  mid 2009  OS X Lion (10.7.1)

You may be able to repair this with 10.4.8 PPC Combo Update
This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

  • OS X cannot verify Security Update 2007-009, refuses to install

I keep trying to install the latest Security Update. It tells me to restart, so I do. The computer restarts and it begins to install, then I get a message that reads:
"The update 'Security Update 2007-009' can't be installed. The installer could not validate the contents of the SecUpt2007-009 package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
This has happened about 5 times now. Any ideas?

+The computer restarts and it begins to install+
The restart happens after the install is complete, not before ... it sounds like you might have a corrupt disc image so I'd just download a fresh copy from here (link below) then mount the .dmg file, then double-click on the installer package.
    http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=16527&cat=57&platfor m=osx&method=sa/SecUpd2007-009.dmg

  • Cannot install Security Update 2007-009  "could not verify contents ..."

    My system:
    Mac Pro dual Quad-Core 3Ghz 7GB Ram
    Boot ROM Version: MP21.007F.B06
    SMC Version: 1.15f3
When running software update, I get this notice:
The update "Security Update 2007-009" can't be installed.
The Installer could not validate the contents of the "SecUpd2007-009" package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
I have no phone support for this mac, so "contacting software manufacturer" leave me few options. Google search returns nothing, search on this forum returns nothing, so hopefully my issue reaches someone who can advise me on how to solve this problem. Reinstalling the system software, IMO, is not a resolution.
    Thanks for your time

    Welcome to Discussions!
I would suggest downloading the Security Update file separately and try installing it that way. You can get the Leopard-compatible version HERE. Once installed, Software Update will stop trying to install it and generating the error message.

  • VPN broken after 10.6.4 Update / Security Update 2010-005

I have a MacMini Server that was running 10.6.3 in use as a gateway for the last 3 or 4 months and everything has been working just fine. However, after applying 10.6.4 and Security Update 2010-005 the iChat and VPN services broke.
I was able to fix the iChat service by using serveradmin in Terminal - Server Admin was showing the correct name of the iChat server, but serveradmin reported a different (incorrect) name. My only guess is that one of the updates somehow changed that setting behind the scenes.
I have yet to be able to fix the VPN (L2TP) issue, though. I can connect internally (to 10.0.1.1) with no problem. I can connect with via iPhone over 3G no problem. I cannot connect externally from a 10.5.8 or a 10.6.4 client - any attempt always fails with a timeout. The VPN log shows nothing, but the system log shows:

Which seems to be correct to me.
As with the iChat problem, everything seems to be correct as reported by Server Admin. I have been hunting for the incorrect setting using serveradmin, but so far everything there seems to be correct as well.
One last item that I just discovered today, and which is probably a huge hint (and I just don't know how to connect the dots), is that when I stop the VPN service (it's running on the gateway server), the entire office loses it's connection to the internet. Turn VPN back on, and the internet is back.
I think my server is deeply, deeply disturbed, but I am not ready to wipe it clean and start over again. I sure would appreciate any insights on this one....

  • Security Update 2007-5 damaged Powerbook G3-400 Lombard hard drive

Reporting unfortunate, possibly expensive, very time-consuming crash of my Powerbook G3-400 (Lombard) when I installed Apple's Security Update 2007-5 a couple of days ago:
    • Logged on as admin user, no other app running (that I remember), but still had USB cables in (they were for iPod - not connected, and for external USB jump drive, connected). OS was 10.3.9, with all updates up to that date. Connected to broadband by Ethernet to switch to cable modem, NOT wireless.
Downloaded, installed, but then during optimization phase got spinning beachball with no progress for over 2 hrs.
    • Side comment: HD has 3 partitions: OS X, OS9, and Storage for Users folders. Symlink from OS X's Users folder to actual user folders on the 3rd partition.
    • Forced warm boot (Ctrl-Cmd-Pwr), then got nowhere - no OS load.
    • Restarted with OS9 CD (no longer have OS X CD, only DVD that does Lombard won't read under OS X): OS X system partition flaky, unable to select it as Startup partition.
    • Opened computer, removed hard drive, put it into external case with FW & USB, inspected HD with another FW computer: while OS X partition could be read (at first), running Disk Util showed it was a bad partition, and had to be re-initialized. Lucky I had backed up all non-OS X applications first!
    • Re-installed OS X from DVD to the external HD case, applied updates.
    • Moved HD back from external case to the PowerBook: now booted OK.
    • Disk Util on HD now shows 3rd partition ("Storage") bad.
    • However - when went to tighten screws of HD carrier and close Powerbook, lost the HD all over again. Best I can figure out now, somewhere in that process, the orange power/data cable connecting the HD to the IDE/Motherboard quit working (broke?), so I now have a dead Powerbook, until the hardware issue is fixed.
Bottom line: Applying this Security Update led to massive frustrations, frittering of humongous gobs of time (waiting for OS9 to load from CD whenever I tried to test and see if it recognized the internal HDD), and now a dead Powerbook G3. Hopefully a replacement ribbon cable will do the job; although if it's downstream from it (i.e., motherboard connector pins or IDE controller), that's going to be VERY expensive.
Reading this forum and others, perhaps I should have removed the attached USB devices (cable for iPod but without iPod attached, and USB thumbdrive). Also read somewhere that others have had problems with moving Users folders to separate partitions and symlinking to those cause problems with Security Update.
However: wish Apple's Security Updates were better behaved, this experience is making me much more scared of applying any updates in future…

I hear what you are saying.
Let's talk about failure probabilities over large populations. These trends may not apply to your specific case, since you do not have a large sample, you have one.
Of the components you mention, the ones least likely to fail are those that consist only of wires, such as the Hard drive cable. As I recall, it is a flex cable, which is even less likely to die in normal use unless you manage to stretch or pinch it -- it is made to be flexed.
Next least likely to fail is the motherboard electronics. Those drivers and connectors are meant to be plugged and unplugged a few times, but admittedly are not intended for harsh service, and are sometimes subject to zapping by static.
Most likely of all these components to fail is the spinning metal disk whose moveable heads fly much closer to the rapidly spinning surface than a smoke particle, a fingerprint, or a human hair. One good shock, or a few dozen smaller ones, and the head could crash onto the surface of the disk, scrubbing off some of the oxide and spraying it over the inside of the drive to cause more problems later.
If this is the original drive, it was manufactured in about 1999. The manufacturer probably sold the same drive at retail with a one-year warranty. Eight years later it has failed. Even if it is a replacement, it is the most likely the Drives that will fail. Thats why you were wise enough to make a backup.
I expect that the trouble you are having with multiple partitions is an indication that the disk is dying. The way to determine this is to re-write it with known patterns, and read back all those patterns and note which sectors require hardware error correction (to check for errors). A working drive has a number of spare sectors that can be low-level substituted for ones that are found to be bad during this test.
The way to accomplish this feat under Mac OS X is to initialize the drive with the "Zero All Data" option. It will take several hours to complete. If it passes, your disk has all good sectors. If it fails, running the test again sometimes does a second level of substitution and allows the drive to initialize OK.
I do not know your exact situation, but over a large sample, it is more likely that your drive died, and more likely that it is mostly a coincidence that it happened during this update, except that the optimize is known to read and write a lot of data in different parts of the disk.

  • !!! Security Update 2007-004 (PPC) causes crashes !!!

After i downloaded the Security Update 2007-004 (PPC) mail and safari refuse to quit. Only force-quit works for these apps.
Also after downloading and installing the update, the computer restarted and got stuck in a startup loop which i force-quitted after 15 minutes or so. After the forced restart the computer started normally but mail and safari seem te be broken. I ran MainMenu for maintenance.
I read several posts on various locations reporting similar problems.
Anyone a solution for fixing my mail and safari?
Can I revert the last update?
will there be a fix posted?
    i use a powerbook G4 15ii OS 10.4.9

    Hi Jelle2
    Welcome to Discussions.
To answer your questions in reverse:
    Will there be a fix?
I don't think there is a problem with that update for Tiger. The problem is avoided when during the optimization phase of Software Update, that process is allowed to run uninterrupted. So if you were using mail and safari whilst also doing the Software Update, then that may be the cause of your current problem.
Can I revert the last Update?
Updates cannot be reversed except by reinstalling the OS, and not doing the Security Update 2007-004. But as I have said there in nothing inherently wrong with that update, just the way it has been installed.
Anyone a solution for fixing my mail and safari?
I would run Repair Disk from the Install DVD as per this guide:
To do this: Insert the Install Disk 1 into the drive and then select Restart, then continue to hold down the C key until the Apple logo appears.
This will take you to the installation software, but you do not want to install.
Select your language, then go up to the top menu bar to Utilities and navigate to the Disk Utilities application.
Select the start up drive, then follow the instructions in the First Aid pane where you can click on Repair Disk .
If it finds errors, repeat the process until it reports no errors.
After these repairs, quit the application, and restart normally.
Once restarted normally run Repair Permissions. from the Disk Utility application found on your hard drive in Application/Utilities.

  • 10.3.9 Security Update 2007-008 Wireless Sleep issue

    Hi,
had a good search around the forum and this webpage but still having a new problem with my iBook G3 OS 10.3.9 (Yes I know it is old, its grand for general webpage browsing at home ) and my Netopia (Eircom) WPA Wireless modem.
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=2005093011343164
Same old story, iBook has been working fine on Wireless since 2003 (inc previous version of 10.3) but the moment I finally added Security Update 2007-008 (10.3.9?) the automatic connecting to my home Wireless network doesn't work anymore
Every time I startup (or iBook goes to sleep)I have to go into the Airport icon and click on the network name. This has never happened before.
On Googleing this problem it seems it was never resolved by Apple?
If I could I would go back a Security Level to what I had before but not sure if this is an option? Auto-connect worked every time previously, much faster than my brand new Dell Laptop for work
Tiger 10.4 isnt really an option either due to it being a lowly G3 600mhz iBook.
    Removed Airport2.kext files
    Removed and re-established Network connection/Password
    Removed plist files
and most of the other things on that webpage to no avail. If anyone has any ideas that would be great. Wireless Router is fine as I have a Work PC that connects automatically to it without any problem.
    Cheers
    Mick

    Hi,
On my 15" PB, with Panther, and all the updates that came from Apple, I have tried a few ways to create what you describe; letting it go to sleep on it's own, putting it to sleep under the Apple Menu, using my screen 'corner' and Moused it to sleep... all come back alive with wireless already on with the proper network.
My set-up Location is tagged to 'Automatic'; in System Preferences > Network with 'Automatic' as the Location, and 'Network Port Configuration' as the Show... Airport is the TOP item on the lower window, and it is 'checked'.
If Airport is not on the top, the computer looks first for a connection in say the 'ethernet' (if that is the top item) until it times out and then it looks in the next one down. You could test this by leaving it alone and see how long it takes to find it... assuming you do have it 'checked' in the Port selections. To move those selections around, just click-and-drag to the location you want the order in.
If you have some thing different here, let us know. We will go from there.
