Security Update 2007-009 will not install

I ran the Software Update utility and found Security Update 2007-009. When I tried to install it, it gave me the following error message:
The update "Security Update 2007-009" can't be saved.
You do not have appropriate access privileges.
The Installer package has been moved to the Trash.
To try again, open the package from the Finder.
I am logged in as an Administrator level user, and I tried to re-run the updater, but got the same result. This also happened on my MacBook.
Anyone else having this error? Any resolutions?

Which version? 1.0 or 1.1??
It may already be installed.
Go to Software Updates in SysPrefs and check the list of installed updates.

  • Security Update 2007 006 will not install!

I downloaded the newly released Security update (Intel) and tried to install it on my 24" Intel iMac. I was immediately informed that my volume "does not meet the requirements for this update" and it refused to go farther.
Has anyone an idea what is going on here?
    Griff

Here is what worked for me.
Run Safari 3.0 installer and choose uninstall. Then, after a restart, either use the Apple software program in Tiger or download the updater for your machine. Either should install.
Evidently, the Safari installer had already put the fix on my computer, but since I have a lot of time to kill, this gave me the peace of mind that the whole fix is installed.
Then you can reinstal Safari Beta, if you really want it.
Personally I am going to wait until Fall and get 10.5.

  • Cannot install Security Update 2007-009  "could not verify contents ..."

    My system:
    Mac Pro dual Quad-Core 3Ghz 7GB Ram
    Boot ROM Version: MP21.007F.B06
    SMC Version: 1.15f3
When running software update, I get this notice:
The update "Security Update 2007-009" can't be installed.
The Installer could not validate the contents of the "SecUpd2007-009" package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
I have no phone support for this mac, so "contacting software manufacturer" leave me few options. Google search returns nothing, search on this forum returns nothing, so hopefully my issue reaches someone who can advise me on how to solve this problem. Reinstalling the system software, IMO, is not a resolution.
    Thanks for your time

    Welcome to Discussions!
I would suggest downloading the Security Update file separately and try installing it that way. You can get the Leopard-compatible version HERE. Once installed, Software Update will stop trying to install it and generating the error message.

  • OS X cannot verify Security Update 2007-009, refuses to install

I keep trying to install the latest Security Update. It tells me to restart, so I do. The computer restarts and it begins to install, then I get a message that reads:
"The update 'Security Update 2007-009' can't be installed. The installer could not validate the contents of the SecUpt2007-009 package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
This has happened about 5 times now. Any ideas?

+The computer restarts and it begins to install+
The restart happens after the install is complete, not before ... it sounds like you might have a corrupt disc image so I'd just download a fresh copy from here (link below) then mount the .dmg file, then double-click on the installer package.

  • Security Update 2007-004 will not load

Software updates has encouraged installation of Security update 2007-004 several times. Each time an error message occurs saying a networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). I am connected to the internet with no problems.
Given that there seems to be so much trouble associated with that particular update, I'm wondering if I can just ignore it, and will I still be notified and able to install future updates?

    Hi
I can't explain the network error timeout, but want to reassure you that if you ignore any update, it does not prevent any future update from being offered to you.
You could try an download it separately from
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
and select the third one down, namely,
    Security Update 2007-004 v1.1 (PPC) 9.1MB
and when doing the installation allow the process to complete without using any other applications open. Just wait for it to finish.

  • Security Update 2012-001 Will Not Install

When I try runnng Software Update to install Security Update 2012-001 I get "An unexpected error has occured." at the end of the installation process.  I tried downloading the standalone installer but that fails too.
    Any ideas?

I tried an re-install of 10.6 from my system disk and upgrading that.  The combo update fails too.
I tried wiping the partition and doing a complete restore from a Time Machine backup.  Still same error.
When I have time I could try wiping the parition, reinstalling 10.6 and using Migration Assistant instead of a straight restore.
One more thing.  I installed a Boot Camp partition about a month ago.  Could that have something to do with this?
    Thanks.
Possible some  corruption occured to the MBR section of your GPT,  boot sector virus on Windows?
Bad Bootcamp updated the GPT wrong perhaps?
Could be OS X on TM is hosed too, can't trust that then.
Fresh install it is then, cures all ills. Follow on.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk, use Disk Utility there to select your entire internal drive on the far left (you got backups right? because all is going bye bye including Windows)
Next chose Erase and Security option Zero All Data, come back after lunch. this will check the drive really good for bad bits/sectors, takes a bit of time though.
Next chose Partiton and Option: GUID, format OS X Extended (J) and give it the same name, click apply. This will rebuilt the GPT in case it was corrupted.
Install 10.6, reboot and update to 10.6.8., c boot off the 10.6 disk and Repair Disk just in case.
Prefereably you should clone your pristine 10.6.8 install first to a blank external drive, you can always option boot off of it.
    http://www.bombich.com/get_ready_for_lion.html
You can then  try restore from TM or just go ahead and install programs from fresh sources and just use Migration Assistant to bring your user back.
If your problems continue after migration assistant, then option boot and reverse clone. how to cherry pick your files off a corrupt TM drive is no easy matter, may need DataRescue $99.
Far as cloning Windows bootcamp later when you reinstall it, you need the free WinClone on Macupdate.com.
you should be fully armed now.
    Good Luck.

  • Applications not responding apparently after Security Update 2007-009

Mail, iTunes, Skype, MSN Messenger, MainMenu, Emule, Safari and god know what else aren't responding after Security Update 2007-009.
    Hi,
I recently purchased a new phone that does not work with macs, so I bought an application from Feisar to make it work. The application isn't freeware, so I think it is very unlikely that it bogused my system. Anyway, I installed the software, but only afterwards noticed it didn't work for my phone model with the USb interface, only through bluetooth, which I don't have. Moreover, and, in my opinion, more importantly, I also downloaded and installed security update 2007-009. After the update, I mandatorily restarted OS X and instantly noticed Mail, iTunes, Safari, Skype and Messenger not working. I click on them on the dock, they bounce (usually once, but it has occured to be more) and nothing happens. I don't get the little arrow below the icon. I see the applications in the applications folder, so they are not missing. I searched and searched on the internet and, apparently it is, to say the least, herculeanly complicated to downgrade from a software update. I tried to repair permissions and it didn't work. I tried the apple hardware test and everything came out perfect. I restarted many times and the same keeps happening.
So I wasted half my day yesterday trying to fix this, looking into forums and trying to talk to people about it and there it absolutely no answer. Yesterday I installed the programs necessary to sync my phone in my wife's macbook and nothing bad happened. So I'm guessing it isn't about the phone plugins I installed. I've tried to download combo updates but they crash as soon as I try to install them - I even tried to install a 10.4.10 update.
This is the error message I get:
    Command: Installer
    Path: /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer
    Parent: WindowServer [114]
    Version: 2.1.9 (104)
    Build Version: 36
    Project Name: Installer
    Source Version: 1040000
    PID: 603
    Thread: Unknown
    Link (dyld) error:
    Symbol not found: _WebCoreUnicodeDirectionFunction
    Referenced from: /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/WebKit
    Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/WebCore.frame work/Versions/A/WebCore
    /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/WebKit
I put part of in on google to check if there was anybody discussing anything related and someone suggested - bizarrely enough - updating adobe reader. I did it just in case and, of course, it didn't work. I repaired permissions a million times already, I rebooted in safe mode, I scaned the computer with apple jack (which reapetedly said that I had a "fan failure!"), I verified the disk with diskutility - which showed nothing. I tried downloading an anti-virus (ClamXav), but I couldn't open it also, I trashed my prefs, I deleted all internet plugins, but still.... nothing.
The most likely line to follow here is the "fan failure" message in apple jack. I looked inside my g5 and all fans except for the one close to the Hard Drives aren't spining. I'm not sure this means they aren't functional or whether the temperature isn't high enough for it to be turned on. Temperature must be around 26-28 degrees Celsius today. There is nothing on the internet about that fan failure that's close enough to my case.
I'm about to quit and take it to the very expensive - yet reliable - authorized tech support apple has in Rio. Any ideas, anyone?

Maybe it is a security update thing! I have had similar troubles with my CS2 and other simple apps like TextEdit not opening, just doing that single bounce... I have tried EVERYTHING and now, after reinstalling my entire system, have lost access to my own user profile.
I'm assuming you have tried starting up with your original system install disk in the computer, while you turn it on, hold the option key, it will allow you to run another hardware check, as well as to do an archive install if it comes down to that.
good luck, please let me know if you find out something else that might be causing the problems... i've noticed that alot of mac threads have similar probs listed.

  • Can't Install Security Update 2007-009 With Software Update

I tried to install Security Update 2007-009 on a 10.5.1 G4 system, but the installation fails with an "unknown error". Here are the details:
    1) Software Update downloads the file and ask to Restart
    2) Get to the blue screen
    3) See these messages "Preparing target volume" and "Configuring installation"
    4) Get this error message:
The update "Security Update 2007-009" can't be installed.
The installer encountered an unknown error that failed the install. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
    5) Restart
I then deleted the "Security Update 2007-009" folder from Library->Updates and tried the update again, but got the same error.
Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it?
    Thanks.

"Security Update 2007-009 can't be installed. The installer could not validate the contents of the SecUpd2007-009 package."

    Permissions repair complete
Regarless, I downloaded the update directly from Apple Support located here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/securityupdate2007009111051.html
And 2007-009 installation complete without a hitch. I have no idea what is going on with the permissions (any recommendations) but I have not found any other problems since this update was installed.
    I hope this helps.

  • Security Update 2007-009 - Now no sound??

I just installed the freshly released Security Update 2007-009 through software update. I now have no sound at all.
System Preferences informs me that I have no Ouput or Input devices attached. System Profiler, however, tells me I do. I hear the chimes upon startup - so I know this isn't a hardware issue.
    Anyone else?? I'm NOT happy!

    chipchipchip,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I encourage you to start your own thread. We'll try to isolate your problem there. Mention what you have done, which applications you are having trouble with and if you have tried playing through the audio out port. Here's where to start:

  • Security Update 2007-009 breaks Rosetta?

I installed Security Update 2007-009 (10.5.1) two days ago.
Since then not a single PPC application works.
    I get:
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at 0x0000000000000024.
This means that I can no longer use Office 2004 for Mac.
I am assuming that the security update breaks Rosetta since I noticed that only PPC applications are fubar.
    Anyone with similar experience?

sorry but you obviously have another problem - just read your post and tried several Rosetta Apps including :
    MsOffice Vx
and Corel photopaint 11 (which I deliberately chose because it has always been a touch wobbly)
Both run fine - and my machine is fully patched. So perhaps the post title could be slightly misleading - maybe it should have a question mark because in my experience it isn't a fact. It's a theory which actually turns out to have been incorrect.
One thing I do know is that rosetta is VERY memory intensive. Mine was always a bit wobbly until I put extra memory in the machine but since Leopard it has actually been a lot lot better than it was with Tiger - which is great.

  • Security Update 2007-009"

When I download the Security Update 2007-009 I get the message "Security Update 2007-009 can't be saved. You do not have appropriate access privileges. The installer package has been moved to the trash."
This is puzzling because I am the administrator of the computer. Does anyone know how to approach fixing this?

Now I'm worried. Neither Verify nor Repair disk permissions works. When run, the progress bar says "less than 1 minute remaining" but makes no progress.

  • Security update 2007-009, address book and palm

Since the security update 2007-009 for Leopard all my address have disappeared from my palm. They are still in address book but no longer sync to the palm (nor do they appear in Palm Desktop). I suspect the update has broken the conduit.
    Paul Mackey

However, as I understand it it is not Palm Desktop that is the problem ( I don't use it just opened it for the first time in about 3 years to see if the data loss was consistent) but the address book conduit which comes from Apple. Was going to use Missing sync (actually looked at doing so last week) but I seem to recall it has yet to be updated for Leopard. Correct?

  • MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 will not install.

    Hi
The latest MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 will not install.
It runs and I restart my Mac but when I search for more updates it appears as a required update again.
Anyone know why this may be?

I had the same problem today. I called Apple support who transferred me to second level support and no resolution. I decided to try a combination of the items I have seen below.
I restarted my computer. I went to apple support download and downloaded the software EFI firmware update 2.0 by typing in search window. I made sure the power cord was pulled into the wall and the laptop had a FULL charge. I installed the update and the computer restarted.
I went to check the software update window after the update and restart completed and SUCCESSFUL.
I do not know why the Genius Bar or the second level support could not resolve my issues but, by me reading information here I hope at least this issue is resolved.
    Thanks ALL.......... Happy Mac ing

My IPhone 5 installed the new IOS 7 update but it will not install.   Why?

I imagine a ton of people are attempting to download, install, and reactive their devices it right now. Simple patience, maybe keep trying, and if possible, try a little later. Think of it as all those people lining up at Apple Stores + about a million more.
