Security Update 2011-001 causes InterView alert

I have update with SecUpd2011-001 for OSX 10.5.8 and now whenever I open my browser (Safari or FF) an alert appears which says "InterView Software not installed correctly, please re-install".
I have never had InterView software on my mac and cannot get rid of this message. I think it might be a conflict with Flash or Adobe plugins but not sure, has anyone else had the same problem?
I will try reinstalling the plugins and post my results.

Don't confuse memory & hard drive space. Running applications uses memory; storing files (application or document) use hard drive space. If you run memory-hungry apps, you may need to increase the RAM in your Mac to avoid slowdowns due to your Mac swapping data in memory (RAM) out to the hard drive. If you don't have adequate hard drive space to spare for this (usually 5 GB minimum, or 10% or more of your hard drive's free space), you may get crashes or other problems.
In any case, deleting files (from the hard drive) won't change the amount of memory (RAM) your Mac uses. That is controlled by the OS, in response to the demand of the application(s) you run. OS X has very good memory management; generally, all you will see is slowdowns if the demand is greater than the installed RAM can handle.
Are you seeing any problems, or are you just concerned that memory use is higher than you expect?

  • Security Update 2006-001 causes huge loss of memory

After running Security Update 2006-001 and updating Garageband, iPhoto and iTunes, per Software Update, my available GB of memory was reduced from approximately 110 to about 35! Yikes! What could have caused this, and how can I fix it?

  • Security update 2011-011 caused problems for Wacom tablet

I have Wacom Bamboo Fun (model CTE-650) tablet, which have since worked well after every passed "security updates". However, after I installed new Security update 2011-011, it started to act weird. I can move pen pointer on screen, but cannot select anything and can't move windows etc..
I checked the disk, verified and repair permissions, and also tried to install most recent Wacom tablet driver but nothing have helped so far. Does anyone experienced this? Any solutions..?

I too have problem with my Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet (in this case the CTE-450). It acts as normal mouse, it does not map to the screen coordinates, only to up. down, left right movement.
When I open the Tablet preference pane, it tells me it does not detect any tablet. I restarted, and nothing. I reinstalled the latest driver (Driver 5.2.4-4(RC) for OS X 10.6, 10.5 & 10.4 (PPC & Intel) from 15 Feb 2011) and still does not work.
Apple... is it you who invalidated my valuable piece of hardware?

  • Security Update 2006-001 causing a problem?

I just installed the new security update on my work mac. The result after the resart was that all of my programs act like they've never been opened before. My address book is gone, my mail started over, Firefox, iTunes, etc. Along with this went my desktop. Is there a fix to this or am I stuck? I'm afraid to recommend to others in my department to do the security upgrade at this point.
    Thanks for any help.
    Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thank you so much for the kind welcome and helpful suggestions!
The apple.com reference was helpful in that it described a very similar result, but after the restart, I logged in as usual. In the users folder of the computer I have a "home" icon with my user name which seems empty. In the side menu of the window where my "home" icon would be is a folder with my same user name. This has my files - even the desktop but in a folder.
Thanks again. I'm going to try this suggestion to see if it will still solve the problem.

  • Could Security Update 2011-005 have caused WiFi slowdown?

I created this post earlier today:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16156444#16156444
I just realized that both computers have installed Security Update 2011-005 just recently (right before this problem started).
Could that have caused the problem?

Could that have caused the problem?
Very unlikely. Millions of users have updated their Macs. The forum would be flooded with posts about this if there were an issue.
Did you completely power cycle your entire network after the update?

  • Kernel panic by mini-diplay port caused by 10.8.5 security update 2015-001 10.8.5

After updating Mountain Lion (10.8.5) with Security update 2015-001, my 2008 15" MacBook Pro suffered kernel panic whenever I plugged in a mini-display port to HDMI cable.  The issue resolved by reverting to the immediate previous backup, which had Security Update 2014-005 as its most recent update..  I verified that update 2015-001 was the problem by installing in on an archived clean system (10.8.5) which also had Security Update 2014-005 as its most recent update.
Here is a capture of the kernel panic:

I have Microsoft Office 2004 on my MacBook (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).  It is currently up to date with Microsoft updates.  I am running Mac OS 10.6.8.  I just updated my Mac software with "Security Update 2012-001".  I am now unable to print (Epson NX510 printer) from Excel or Word.  When I click on the Print menu item in Excel, there is a flash in the background like it is trying to open the print window, but nothing else.  I am able to print from other programs like TextEdit, Mail or KakeidaGraph.  As far as I know I have the latest Epson print driver.
Also, I am also unable to open an existing Excel or Word file from the open menu - both programs lock up and do not respond.  I have to force quit.  After I restart Excel or Word I can open an existing file by double clicking on the file, but if I again try to open another file from the open menu, Excel or Word lock up.
    Any similar problems?

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
    You might wish to read:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
    Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
    - You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
    - Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
    - Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
    - Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

  • IMac wakes from sleep by itself after security update 2010-001

Since installing last weeks security update 2010-001, my iMac has suddenly started waking up when it should be asleep. Now I've had Auto Sleep problems with my iMac before, but this problem of finding my iMac running when I left it asleep started immediately after the update. Now, one thing additional I've notice since the update is that I often see the message on the screen "Keyboard Connected" when it always was or should have been and I wonder if this is related to my iMac waking up. Anyone else seen this problem since the update or have any ideas?

Thanks to you both for suggestions, but I still have the same problem after trying them and as I said in my title this only started after the 2010-001 security update. As a test I put my iMac to sleep at 13:35 and it woke up by itself at 13:46. Here is the console log below, does it help at all in finding the root cause?

  • Strange behavior in Preps 5 after Security Update 2012-001

After installing Security Update 2012-001 this morning, my Save dialog box no longer appears in Preps 5.0. Another iMac running 10.6.8 that was not updated has no problems. Any ideas how to fix this or a workaround?

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.

  • Security Update 2012-001 Version 1.1 broke Autodesk Mental Ray?

I ran Security Update 2012-001 Version 1.1 last night. Now, I can't render using the Mental Ray option in Maya 2011 (Hotfix 3 x64). I had just rendered before I ran the update.

Hopefully this is a coincidence. If not, then our FIX for the FIX is yet another failure.

  • HT1222 Has Apple acknowledged the problems with Security Update 2012-001?

I've read a multitude of user forum comments about this update breaking user software, but have not found a single comment by an Apple representative.

  • HTTPS connections timeout with Security Update 2010-001

I recently installed Security Update 2010-001 onto Snow Leopard and have difficulty accessing certain web sites from my browser (I have tried with both Safari and Firefox and they have the same problem). The issue in common with the problem sites is that they use akamai mirror servers to deliver their content over HTTPS connections. I can see from the Activity window that the redirected HTTPS connections to the akamai sites just hang and eventually timeout. This is new behaviour since installing the security patch and I was wondering if the Open SLL update in the security patch may have caused these connections to hang? Anyone have any idea (or where I could find out?)

Has anyone else seen this? I note from the release notes:
    perl
    CVE-ID: CVE-2005-4217
Available for: Mac OS X v10.3.9, Mac OS X Server v10.3.9
Impact: Perl programs may fail to drop privileges
Description: When a perl program running as root attempts to switch to another user ID, the operation may fail without notification to the program. This may cause a program to continue to run with root privileges, assuming they have been dropped. This can cause security issues in third-party tools. This update addresses the issue by preventing such applications from continuing if the operation fails. This issue does not affect Mac OS X v10.4 or later systems. Credit to Jason Self for reporting this issue.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Damon
    PowerMac G4-867   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The update prevents spamd to run as the default user "nobody". Running it as root seems to be the only workaround.
