Security update 2014-002 grey sceen

Hi, I have tried to install security update 2014-002. It tells me that a restart is required. It takes me to a grey screen an installer of some sort an then hangs.
I turned it off. Started it again, It has removed my desktop picture and still shows that I require the update to be installed also I noticed that it show the update has been install.
anyone????
Regards
Neico

If you are able to get back to the normal desktop screen, backup your data.
To apply the update, download it directly from:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1740
And then run its installer.
If Software Update still shows it, you can set it to ignore the update.
Repair permissions when done installing it, as sometimes a few might get messed up.
Note: Permissions Repair will always show some needing repair no matter how many times you repair it.  That should not be of concern.

  • Security Update 2014-002 Mavericks problem.

I need help. After getting an update notice (Security Update 2014-002 Mavericks. ) I decided to update. It asked me to restart my mac so I clicked yes. And then left it to run. I came back to the mac and it was turned off. I then pressed the power button. Boot up tone came on screen lit up and then a gray apple sign comes up followed by the gear load symbol and after that followed by a load bar. The load bar starts then after like 5% it stops and then Turns off. This happens every time. I've tried opening it in safe mode it still does the same thing. Can anyone explain what the **** is going on.
I have no access to my mac at all.
    Please help.

    Joebaker00,
boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the  OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Is it able to get to the login screen now?

  • Security update 2014-002 and boot up time

    Hi all,
After installing the Security Update 2014-002, my Mac Pro is taking over 10 minutes to start. I get a grey screen and eventually the Apple logo appears.
I've unplugged everything from the computer and repair permissions already. I've tried to boot in recovery mode, but it never seems to start (waiting on the grey screen for over 20 minutes while my fingers are on the keys isn't a fun time).
    Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes  after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as hang logs—they're very long and not helpful.

  • Restarting taking forever after Security Update 2014-002

I just downloaded Security Update 2014-002 and my Mac Mini is taking forever to restart after the download and installation process finished. I'm running the latest version of Mavericks and my Mac is stuck on restart! What should I do?
    Need help! Thanks.

Tap the space bar on your keyboard once. The dispaly may be sleeping.
The first restart after the update here was longer than usual but I restarted one more time, it was back to normal boot time.
After the restart, open the App Store then select Updates from the menu.
It should say:  Verio 1.0 Installed Apr 22, 2014

  • Slow Sleep Wake-Up after Security Update 2014-002 MacBook Air

Hello! I have a 2013 August MacBook Air. I experienced the "screen goes black, hard restart" issue for many months until one of the updates cured that issues, thank goodness. I just updated with Security Update 2014-002 and just noticed it took about 20 seconds for my MacBook Air to wake-up from sleep mode. I was fearful it was back to the "black screen, no wake-up" issue with this update, however when it finally came back up I was relieved albeit very cautious now. Anyone else have this same issue?

    Hello macforme
If you are having issues with waking from sleep and slow startup times, then check out the article below. The main thing to try is to reset the SMC and NVRAM as a starting point sort the issue out.

  • Just installed security update 2014-002, now Itunes will not open. Have rstrated but no change, need help to fix, please

Just installed security update 2014-002, now Itunes will not open, I have rebooted twice with no effect, I don't know what else to do to get my itunes back. Need help please

Believe I've firxed my problem, at least, ITunes is now working again. I followed the information provided from a couple of posts on this thread, (1) re restarting with command-s held down; did it twice, made no differerence; (2) manually re-installed the Security update; no difference; each time restarting, no effect; (3) shutdown the computer; I did for 35 minutes, upon restart, ITunes is back to normal, seems to be working fine. Turning the computer off must clear the cache?

  • After installing last Security Update 2014–002 i've had problems when trying to open some apps, as they close unespectedly. Boom, Audacity, Dropbox are some of these apps...

Yesterday (april 22) I install the last Security Update 2014–002 from the Mac App Store. After rebooting the computer, I haven't been able to run some apps I use frequently, such as Boom Device, Dropbox, Google Drive, wich didn't show in the menu bar anymore and don't run even when clicking on their icons; or apps like Audacity (open source sound editor), All2mp3 (sound files converter to mp3); and other apps bought from the Mac App Store, as Funtastic Photos. This problem affects even applications as Word, Excel and Powerpoint... I think the problem has reached it's highest levels and I would like to know what can I do in order to reverse my iMac to a "normal" life... I should say that I haven't had any problems with any of the several Web Browsers I commonly use...

I have the sam problem with Firefox and Word. Annoying, please help me. Word does not open at all(still Excel and Powerpoint do, Firefox get a lot of problems, and shuts down.

  • Security Update 2014-002 Black boxes and screen sticking

Today after installing the security update 2014-002 on mavericks i am getting black boxes or black backgrounds when shifting screens. In Safari when i am scrolling down it is behaving the same way displaying text and pictures stuck wile moving. Is there any way to get one step back or to delete the new update. Please, help me solving this issue. I shouldn't had updated. The updates are so unreliable.
I went to safe mode and it becomes worse in safe mode.

I connected the charger many times it didn't worked. Yes exactly it stopped charging. Then i tried again and again removing and moving the pin and it worked suddenly. i wasn't able to imagine that i purchased it in 2014 January. How it is possible that the brand new and so expensive item behave like this.
The problem i was facing is solved too after this behavior. As soon as my laptop started charging i switch from one screen to another right/left dashboard. Scroll up/down in safari. It is moving the same as before amazing fast.
I didn't installed or uninstalled anything as others did. I didn't understood at all how come the charger was stopped charging and how such awkard problems happened that made the laptop so slow that it behaves like it is dying or maybe something went wrong with the graphic card.
    Thanks for helping.

  • HT3964 Security Update 2014-002 version 1.0 Issues

My MacBook Air was working fine until the Security Update 2014-002 version 1.0 was installed on Apr 24, 2014.  Ever since then, it goes into deep hibernation or shutdown/restart on its own.  How would I resolve this without a TimeMachine backup?  Thank-you.

    Hey there MAK-SJ,
It sounds like your computer is going to sleep and/or restarting by itself after a recent update. I would start by checking to see if there are any Hot Corners that may have gotten enabled somehow with this:
OS X: When your Mac doesn't sleep or wake
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5357
Your computer sleeps at unexpected times
Make sure you have not set a Hot Corner that tells the display to sleep, or the computer to sleep.
See the following related articles for this symptom.
OS X: If your computer screen goes black
Magnets in devices may cause computer to sleep unexpectedly
If this is not the case, I would use the troubleshooting from the Additional Troubleshooting section of the article down toward the bottom.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Recent Security Update 2014-002 Causing Finder Crash - QuartzComposer Plugin

    Hello,
Recently updated Mavericks with the Security Update 2014-002 and now getting Finder crashes on login. Seems to relate to the QuartzComposer plugin.
No task bar at the top of the screen, just desktop wallpaper and looping Finder crash that can't be resolved. I have the crash log, but not posted one before. Is it safe to post the whole thing online?
Pressing the power button and forcing a restart often fixes the problem but it happening relatively frequently now on each startup and I would like to resolve this. Can't find much on the forums at the moment.
    Please help.
    Many thanks
    Sam

Is it safe to post the whole thing online?
Yes, but make sure there is no personal information in it, which there usually isn't.

  • Download notification for Security Update 2014-002 does not go away after update

I have downloaded the Security Update 2014-002 4 times tonight, it shows up in the downloaded and installed list, but it still is showing up as an update ready to download. I restarted my machine each time, but it still is showing up in the update notifications. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    George

Go to the command line of the appliacne and run "version"
That will show you the current version of the firmware.
If you have record of what was there, you can compare...
Otherwise contact TAC, they can verify that you have the up-to-date version and pull your serial from the distribution list so you don't see it any more.

  • Black screen after sleep Mavericks security update 2014-002

I get a black screen for about 10-20 seconds on waking from computer sleep/display sleep after installing security update 2014-002 for Mavericks. The computer is awake, because I can click and change windows, pointer/cursor placement, etc., from before the time the computer went to sleep. Never had this problem before this latest update.

If the resets don't help try the following in order as necessary:
1 - boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair both the disk and disk permissions. Reboot normally and check for improvements.
2 - boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and reinstall the system.

I tried to download the new Security Update 2014-002 today via system preferences/software update. The update completes downloading, but just before the install a message pops up saying the update can't be saved due to it being corrupt/being tampered or manipulated. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Does anyone know what is causing this to happen and how to fix it?
    -Thanks

    Restart the Router.

After restarting the computer in normal mode, redownload the update.
