Security updates stuck at downloading (0% complete)

Hi.
I have a server that I am trying to get the updates to install through software center. I have verified that the correct boundary is created and that the packages are at the DP. In software center all the updates just say downloading (0% complete). I read
about checking IIS and I verified that all the correct settings are in place. I have checked the ContentTransferManager.log file it just states that CTM job {E376AB38-8BAE-41CC-8CDD-6C29A7AF3C37} entered phase CCM_DOWNLOADSTATUS_DOWNLOADING_DATA
Does anyone know what else I can check?
Thank you.

Does that CTM job belong to the download of your updates? Other client log files that you could check are
LocationServices and CAS. For a list of all the log files, see:

  • SINGLE SCCM UPDATE STUCK AT DOWNLOADING 0% COMPLETE

I'm posting this because while there are multiple threads on the Internet about all patches on a client stuck at "downloading 0% complete", there's very little on when only one patch is stuck there network-wide. This was the "Windows Malicious
Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows Server 2013, 2012 R2 x64 Edition - September 2014  (KB890830)". On this network it would not download on any machine. Other versions of the Sept 2014 version of 890830 did install, so it was clearly
something specific to this version of that update. After awhile, I decided to try something that worked for me: Delete the deployment that applies to the machine in question, update distribution points from the package in question, run Machine Policy on the
box in question, wait til the update clears off the Software Center screen, and then run Machine Policy and Software Updates Deployment on the Actions tab. Then the patch installed fine. Hope this helps someone else!

I just figured this out while typing this. One of the suggested threads that appeared when I was typing lead me to the answer for my case. The IIS App Pool for DPs was using an account that did not have rights to particular folder. Some security setting
pushed by the security server changed something. I changed to App Pool to an account that had the needed rights, restarted IIS, and the downloads started working. Maybe this will fix my secondary DP problem too.

  • Installed OS X Tiger / Security Update / Stuck at Blue Screen

    Hello,
I need help. This is for one of the computers at work. We are doing a system overhaul and I needed to upgrade the G5 PowerPC. We bought the Tiger install disk. I backed up all the files to an external drive and decided to just to a complete wipe of the hard drive. I chose the Erase and Install option.
No problems. I did not install any other software. I did not change any settings. The only thing that I did was run the software updates. There were some security updates and one for quicktime and the one the OS X and a few others.
It was after the update that I begin to have problems. I was having some freeze up errors yesterday and then I did the whole process over again. So I thought it was done and then this morning I come in and turn it on and it gets stuck at the blue screen with the pointer. I ran Disk Utility and there are no bad sectors. It repaired some permissions but still no fix. I checked the login startup items and there is nothing there except an iTunes helper application. Like I said, I have installed nothing else except the update. I ran the hardware test and everything is good.
I am going to Erase and Install again. But I need to know if there is something wrong with the updates. A few people seem to be pointing fingers at Quicktime. But I don't want to install updates without knowing what is going on. Can someone help me. Thanks.

We are doing a system overhaul and I needed to upgrade the G5 PowerPC. <--
    Hi Jay,
I don't know if I can help but I'm also going through Tiger installation problems on a G4. But first:
What version of OS X was on the G5 when you began the upgrade? Panther?
Was it the retail DVD in the black and silver box? This version will install on any Mac G3, G4 or G5. Or did it come from another Mac? Non native installs can cause problems.
I backed up all the files to an external drive and decided to just to a complete wipe of the hard drive. I chose the Erase and Install option. <--
If an earlier version of OS X was already on it, it would've been better to do an Archive & Install, which would preserve your files and settings. A&I is in the Options when the button is clicked below the Erase and Install icon. It sounds like your finder can't find the system you installed. Erasing may have done this. The beauty of Archive & Install is that, it installs a fresh copy of OS X on a preserved software that have left a warm bed for them not an empty cold bed system. Anyway that's my take on it. The best way to "Erase and Install" is with the install DVD by booting up from it. Hold down the C key while you boot up. Then go to Disk Utilities in the menu and click on it and follow the steps to Erase and Install. Then follow the steps to place a new system on the hard drive. But go with Archive & Install. It works.
I am going to Erase and Install again. But I need to know if there is something wrong with the updates. <--
Others have reported problems after updates. Were they Combo updates? The software pages have smaller versions of Tiger on the Tiger getting started pages in the Apple website. But IMO it's not the updates. Your system needs them and will update what's current. Like I said I don't know for sure but Erase and Install may lie at the core of the problem. If possible try to get a version of Panther (10.3) and go from there. AND try to find out what version of OS X was on the G5 when you took it over. But to be sure, if you can, call a certified Mac dealership and see if they can help by answering questions. He may ask you if you have Apple Care their insurance program. If the warranty is still good you can get some repair work done if necessary.
    Report back after your trip.

  • Security Update - Stuck!

Every time I try to install the new Security Update 2008-002, it always gets stuck at configuring installation. I tried first to install it through software update and it didn't work and then I found the pkg file in my updates folder and tried to update through there, but I still have the same problem.
Also I have been having serious issues with Safari since the last update, as it keeps crashing. It doesn't matter what type of site it is, it just crashes.
    Any help?
    Thanks.

You can't use the files in the updates folder to actually apply updates so that won't work. Trash that file in the updates folder and download the standalone installer from this page, then attempt a manual install from there.
You can also do the same with Safari if you like from here.
Note that the correct order would be Safari first, then the security updater.

  • Windows Update stuck on downloading on Server 2012

    Hi,
Using VMWare Workstation 9, I created new virtual machine where I installed Windows Server 2012 Standard edition from MDSN disk en_windows_server_2012_x64_dvd_915478.iso  In the Server 2012 virtual machine, when I go to check for updates it says
there are important updates available so I click on Install Updates.  It then just gets stuck on downloading updates for hours and nothing ever happens.  Stuck at 0 KB total, 0% complete.  I am able to access web pages using Internet Explorer
with no problem so the machine does appear to have connectivity to the Internet.  If I go to help, click on "What can I do if I'm having problems installing updates?" and click on "Tab or click to open the Windows Update troubleshooter"
it says "Windows Online Troubleshooting Service is not enabled for this version of Windows."  Any suggestions or ideas?
    Thanks,
    Greg

I had a similar problem with a guest Windows 2012 R2 running on a Hyper-V host. I went to the network adapter in device manager in the guest and I disabled the "Large Send Offload Version 2 (IPv4)" option. Why? Well, this was also an issue previously when
guesting Windows 2008 where the symptom was an error 80072ee2 when retrieving updates. See this post
http://blog.ronnypot.nl/?p=310 for details. Anyway, I tried this and it worked for me. Hung before the change, worked after.

I found directories and files in these folders, I've searched through all my distribution Points:
     Directory of D:\SCCMContentLib\DataLib

If I search for the "bd5a51ba-2106-46f1-bc87-347294901fdf" update I can't find anything in the console, if I search for "8cd56b72-8791-4fbb-bb86-97d41afcb588" I find the update I am looking for. Why are there two updates with two codes but the same name?

  • Adobe Community Help Application Updates - Stuck in download process

I read in the forums where people have had problems with the initialization of the download freezing, but my problem is that when I download the local updates... The download itself freezes. When I try to update everything at once, it hangs up every time, so I went to: Adobe Help -> Preferences -> Manually update my locally stored Help content. It lets me download almost all of the files one by one, but by the last couple of them, they start to freeze up. I read in the forums to throw away the application icon and then dump the chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1 folder from library -> preferences and empty my trash (I'm on a MAC... BTW). Then re-install the app from the website. It works until I get to the last couple of downloads... Then they freeze again. This is very frustrating. Is there another way to resolve this issue? I really would like my workflow back. Happy New Year! =)

The uninstall then re-install and download the files one by one thing worked, finally! It only took me two days to update a program that should've taken an hour... MAX! I hope this information helps out the next person that runs into this problem.

  • Unable to restart after a Security update failed to completely download.

I was downloading a security update. It failed to completely download. When I tried to restart the computer, it will get up to the blue screen background of the user login page. It will not go any further. I tried using the >Shift< key to get it into a SAFE mode but nothing happens except the progress indicator revolves. Should it be revolving over 3 hours and still no progress is seen? Is there something else I can do? Is there Apple or 3rd party software that could perhaps fix it? Please help I don't want to start from the beginning and re-install everything.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Try Disk Utility. You need your system restore disk.
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
One reason that an update can't finish is that you didn't use Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions before you ran the udpate. Second possibility is not enough free disk space. If you haven't upgraded the hard disk in your iBook, it probably has a 60GB drive or less. Never allow your free drive space fall below 20% of the total drive. This information can be viewed in Disk Utility at the bottom of the page with MacintoshHD 10.4 selected in the panel on the left.

  • Deploying a Task Sequence is stuck at Downloading, 0%

    Hi,
I want to deploy  a custom task sequence that performs the following Tasks:
Run Program  to disable the write filter.
Perform software distribution and software update activities
Run Program  to enable the write filter
I did everthing like ist explained here:
System Center Configuration Manager Team Blog
How to Manage Windows Embedded Write Filters Using System Center 2012 Configuration Manager
On the client, in Software Center, the Task Sequence is stuck at "Downloading, 0% complete".
I tried the same with a simple vbs Script which opens a MsgBox, the result is exactly the same...
Which logs can i use to search for errors? What is causing this error?

cscript.exe is running in the taskmgr, but it's  no terminated after the the deployment.
    smsts.log: (I've deleted  D:\_SMSTaskSequence manually...)

  • Sunfire X2250 endless restarting after putting on all 'security' updates

Hello all, yeserday I did a fresh Solaris install and once that was done i ran updatemanager. I selected only the 'security' updates. They downloaded and then installed. I then got a screen prompted me to reboot, so i ticked the box and let the machine do its thing. So the machine goes through and installs the remaining patches and the reboots. Upon reboot right after grub where i select Solaris to boot i get the Sun solaris copyright screen and right after that a bunch of 'unknown symbol' messages all over the place. The machine doesn't even get back to the desktop or login and enters maintenace mode. I was stuck at this point, I didn't know what to do and couldn't go any further and so I did a complete reinstall of the OS again. Once it came back up I again ran updatemanager and selected only the 'security' updates. It did the same thing again! upon the shutdown/reboot sequence the system hangs again, endless reboot loop. Why are these basic security patches messing up the machine? is there a known bad patch that bonks everything? I now have everything reinstalled again (3rd OS reinstall) and it's running great but i'm scared to run the patches again. Can anyone please help or provide an explaination? thank you very much in advance

    Thanks for your reply, scapesuiter.
I suppose i can rule out third party software, as, after i reinstalled my OS after the first freezing (after 2007-003), i did not add anything else. At that point there was nothing on my computer but what came on the original install disks. I tried downloading and installing 2007-003 again and the same thing happened, and i had to reinstall again.
However, i do have 1GB RAM that i did not order from Apple. My computer originally came with 512 but i bought more some time ago (can't remember exactly when).
I also bought a new hard drive, also not from Apple, at around the same time.
But i should say again that i've had no problems since getting the new hardware, other than with these particular security updates (2007-003 and 2006-007). All the other security updates went well, as well as all other software updates.
(I also did a hardware check with my Apple Hardware Test disk and it indicated that everything was working fine.)

  • New Os 10.5 Security update today....but didnt fix my SMB/NAS issue!

Since I am one out of many here in this forum that cnnot connect his NAS harddrive to Leopard, i was looking forward to receive an update from Apple.
Now today there is an update available, which also states it fixes Samba issues....but unfortunately no change on my NAS harddrive. still can connect, see the main folder, but cant drill down and see the files or access files. all works fine on windows (!!) and if i connect the NAS to the Mac straight away.
anybody else still has issues after today's software update?
    Please let me know,
    Thx, Markus

As soon as I read your post, I went checking for software updates and voila, there was the Security Update.
I downloaded and installed it, but no good news. Finder still only shows the topmost shared folders inside the NAS drive, but it doesn't let me browse into them.
I really think there is something wrong with the kernel or with the smbfs support. Are we supposed to get stuck with this problem until Apple finally releases Darwin 9.1? How long will it take?

  • The last panther security update....

...appears to have screwed my starup disc preferences.
i have two boot drives in my quicksilver powermac, one for panther, one for tiger, both with the latest versions. until the last security update which i downloaded saturday, i could change the startup disc in the system preferences and things were happy. i've noticed that now when i change the startup disc to tiger, the computer restarts in panther. also, after days of diagnostics like repairing permissions, cocktail cleansing, restarting, the computer will not startup from the panther installation disc even though it sees it in the start up disc preferences; this results in a blue screen hang and i have to force quit.
I am not able to start in either panther or the installation disc using the option key upon a force restart as well or even from the start up disc preference in tiger.
hmmm, looks like i've lost a boot disc and operating system.

I have been having problems with various Macs for the past week. The latest problem occurred today when I installed SU 2006-003 on my G4 Dual 450.
Before installing I ran disk utility and repaired the permissions.
After installing the SU, I restarted the G4 as instructed.
The G4 turned on (no startup chime), the white screen with the apple and spinning gear appeared. Nothing happened after that. It ran for about an hour, still no change.
Since then, I have started the G4 in target mode and connected it via firewire to my G4 iBook. However, the G4 in target mode did not register as a drive on the desktop. A second hard drive that I have in the G4 did show up on the desktop of the G4 iBook, but when I double clicked to open it - all I got was the beachball of death.
I was able to manually open the CD/DVD drive and I tried to update the system software to 10.4 using a Tiger install disk. I was able to reboot holding down the C key and the install window came up fine. When I tried to upgrade, I found that I did not have enough room and I was not able to skinny up the customized install enough to fit the upgrade onto the available space (1.4 GB available).
So, I then tried to run disk utility from the 10.4 install disk. I ran repair disk and it found errors it could not fix.
I rebooted - same white screen with apple and spinning gear. I let it go for a long time - no change
I then inserted Tech Tool Pro CD in the CD/DVD drive and rebooted holding down the C key. I ran all the tests and it found some Volume errors and I had it repair them. During the repair it came up with some changes to the volumes that it indicated were strange, but since I really had no choice i told the software to apply the changes.
Tech Tool Pro also found some minor errors when it teste the Finder, I had it repair those as well
I rebooted - same white screen with apple and spinning gear. I let it go for a long time - no change
I next tried a "safe boot", but since the G4 doesn't have a chime at startup, I simply held dow the shift key from the moment I powered up the G4. Again I got the white screen, apple, spinning gear. However, after a while the screen went black and restarted up only to get to the same white screen, apple, and spinning gear again. That has been going on for a while.
At this point I am out of thoughts and I have gone bleary eyed reading all the comments in the various forums on the Apple Support site.
The biggest thing I want to accomplish at this point is to retrieve a handful of files that my two kids have on the G4 (papers and projects that are due very soon)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • After a security update, Microsoft Office no longer opens

I did a security update today and on restarting the Office suite I have been using for the last two years (properly bought and installed) refused to open, saying that my Word test drive had expired. The Office disk is in London (I'm in Wales) so what do I do? Can I return the software to its form four hours ago? Do I have to reinstall Word etc? Or do I unistall the Word test drive?

Christopher try reapplying the security update. Just download it from apple.com. According to www.macfixit.com this has been a solution for some users.
