Security Wipe - No power up, no screen display no usb function

I did a security wipe from my phone, it was locked from the previous owner and they didn't bother cleaning it up. So I entered the wrong password 10 times then typed in blackberry to start the security wipe.
The security wipe did not finish properly after an hour an a half. I did a battery pull, and now the phone wont start up.
When I hold the power button for 10 seconds, it flashes twice, then stays on like it is starting, then the screen shows backlite, but won't show any icons or instructions. The phone also won't connect to the computer via USB. It doesn't show up in Windows 7.
Any ideas??
I tried the following website, and it doesn't work for me:
http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?externalId=KB33480&sliceId=2&cmd=displayKC&d...

Start up BlackBerry Link and go to the device settings.  Plug in the phone and it should give you -- for a brief time -- the option to reload the carrier firmware.
Take it.
That should reload the carrier's base firmware and wipe all storage.

Try holding just the home button for a while.
Try a program called TinyUmbrella, it's good with getting your phone out of funny states like that.

  • How to do a security wipe if phone is stuck on start-up screen and your micro-usb port is also broken?

    Good day
A week or so ago, my  phone just out of the blue decided that it would not initiate fully anymore.  It was laying on charge and when i took it off after an hour or so, it just stuck on the service provider's screen before saying "loading personal settings".  I was informed that my os needed to be reinstalled, the problem is, my usb port ion my phone is also broken.  I took the phone in to a repair guy, but he wants to ask me an idiotic price to fix it and says he is able to do so without using my usb port?  Is there any way you can wipe your Blackberry 8520 and reinstall an O.S if your usb port on the phone is broken?  Please, this is a matter of life and death as there are a hell of a load of contacts, documents and emails i would like to save, but if not able to, I can handle that too, just need the phone to work, it's of the highest importance!
Thank you so much in advance.
    Juan

I take it that you do not have a recent back up of your phone's data?
Try starting your 8520 in Safe Mode.
Article ID: KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB17877
If you can do that, you can get to the Security wipe function, but without a good USB port, I am not sure how you're going to load the OS. But try Safe Mode first.

Bring it to an Apple store or AASP. Power down by holding the power button down.

  • Power Macintosh 7200 to Mac Mini back up and secure wipe question

Hi all, nearly figured this on my own but hope that someone here can fill in the gaps.
I have a clunky old 7200/75/16 (no upgrade card, bog standard machine) I want to sell/give/dump.
Before that, I need to back up the 500 MB HDD (hard to believe that was big once, now looking at a 500 GB HDD for the new machine!) and then secure wipe it.
I've learned that I can get halfway there with a crossover cable and Apple Talk. So far, so good.
Now, how about the secure wipe? I've had a look but I've not had any success in finding a how-to.
I have a feeling I can't use Disk Utility in Leopard for this, but maybe I am wrong.
Advice is sought from anyone here that can share their expertise on the best way to go.
A cheap/free solution (that doesn't destroy the machine) would be welcomed!
If relevant: I don't have the installer floppies for the 7200. I unwisely bought the machine without them but vaguely recall from an earlier Macintosh that Disk First Aid had some kind of format facility though I doubt it was far from secure by today's standards. I figure I can find a set of installer disks on eBay to get the 7200 operational again once I've completed this chore...

I've learned that I can get halfway there with a crossover cable and Apple Talk.
File sharing via AppleTalk cannot be used with the most modern operating systems. You should be able to use TCP/IP. A third-party program may be of interest. Also, see this article for some general information.
Now, how about the secure wipe?
One could use Drive Setup (a 1.7.3 version is available for download) for this. Under the Functions menu you will find Initialization Options, where "Zero all data" can be chosen. However, the program has to run from another disk (such as a bootable floppy). It is possible to create and modify a startup floppy on the 7200.
A third-party application such as Wipe Info (part of Norton Utilities, commercial) or Burn 2.5 (freeware) could be used, too.
If relevant: I don't have the installer floppies for the 7200.
The Disk Tools PPC (here) is one thinkable startup floppy for the Power Macintosh computer in question. If necessary, a complete System 7.5.3 (e.g., the International English version here) can be downloaded from Apple.

  • White screen after Security Wipe

    Hi!
My BlackBerry 9900 has a total white screen without any error message after a Security Wipe
after this i have downloaded Blackberry OS for 9900 and tried to load it through "Apploader" but it says that there is no BlackBerry device software installed.

Have you tried wiping the device with a 3rd party utility like JL_Cmder?
I recommend wiping the device OS and reloading from scratch
Download JL_Cmder (linked below.) Unzip and install to your PC.
    http://www.blackberryforums.com/attachments/rim-software/19475d1318636583-jl_cmder-jl_cmder-v1.9.4.z...
Make sure Desktop Software is closed.
Connect the device (if Desktop Software opens again, close it.)
Run JL_Cmder and select the option to Wipe the device.
The screen will turn red and ask you to type blackberry to confirm.
When it's done the device should restart and come up with an Error 507. This error just means the device has no OS installed.
    Reinstall the OS:
    1. First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use (you don't have to use your own carrier--any carrier will work.)
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    2. Download the OS file from step 1 to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    3. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Also check the following locations for vendor.xml files and delete any instances of the file:
On Windows Vista/7 navigate to C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML (Where "YOUR_USER" is your username)
On Windows XP navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML (Where "YOUR_USER" is your username)
    4. Plug in BlackBerry and double click on Loader.exet; It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

It is not finished wiping. The security wipe can take a couple hours and up to 10-12 hours according to IF you had data encryption enabled and how much data you had on the device.

  • Help: Security Wipe - KB33480 - No factory reset

    Hey everyone,
I recently changed my Blackberry account on the Z10, and I proceeded to do a security wipe. After doing so, the connect to computer icon was displayed on the phone. So, I looked on the internet for a solution, and kept finding the same one: KB33480.
So, I proceeded with the steps, starting with the Blackberry Link approach. After telling me to reset the phone, it would check for updates, and tell me that :
"There are no BlackBerry Device Software updates available."
Here, my phone's light is green.
After I close that, the green light goes off, red light turns on quickly, then the device starts up. BlackBerry logo into the connect to computer screen again.
I can't get this or the workaround to work. I'm missing out on the process described in step 6 of the workaround:
"The BlackBerry 10 smartphone will now power itself off after 120 seconds. Shortly after the 120 seconds, the BlackBerry smartphone LED should turn green. Continue to wait after the LED turns green and you will be prompted to install BlackBerry Device Software. Follow the prompts to install the BlackBerry Software and once the installation is complete the smartphone will boot up and is now recovered."
The updater jumps from checking updates, then goes right to the no updates found screen instead of installing the software onto the phone. Can someone help me out please?

    hi
I am also facing the same problem.
I have bbm contacts in hundreds. I am facing two issues.
First BBM contacts were not transfering by any way (Switch devices via card, switch devices via PC cable, and did login with same BlackBerry ID, none of these work). Finally I decided to transfer all data by any convenient way, and to add bbm contacts manually.
Yet i had approx 200 bbm contacts added, i came to know, my contacts are not completely synchronized. I did wipe it (as there was no way to delete All Contacts). When it was time to reboot, device and pc logo start appearing.
Then I followed the same as described.
    www.blackberry.com/btsc/kb33480
the same appearing, after green light
“There are no BlackBerry Device Software updates available.”
i am living in Dubai, i have contacted to few technician, none of them worked well. All suggested to claim waranty.
If I am going to Waranty, it would take two weeks atleast.
BBM contacts are my butter and bread and my business/job highly depends upon these. I got Z10 due to speed/processor and RAM so that it shouldn't hang (as bb 9860 started hang).
Can you help me to sort out both issues ASAP. I would be very very thankful to you !
Yes, also let me know, as described there
    www.blackberry.com/btsc/kb33480
    in workaround, clause 3
Using Internet Explorer navigate to http://www.BlackBerry.com/updates, scroll down the page and select the  Check for Updates button.
Where should i follow in updates exactly, as there are many links, and how and where to update?
Expecting prompt and comprehensive response !

  • Brand new Thinkstation D10 server fails to boot, no beeps or screen display

This server had been working fine for several weeks and today I needed to reboot it. It has been rebooted several times before so so I wasn't trying something new.   I hit the Vista Start button and it immediately shut down.  I couldn't recall if Vista prompts you to Stand-by/restart/shutdown but I think it does - this time it didn't. :/   Afterwards, it would not boot.
    I tried:
Unplugging and replugging it in: it then attempted to boot but shut itself down again after about 30s.
    a Power Supply Reset
    Reseating the memory cards
Removing one of the 4GB memory cards
    Trying the other memory card
    Swapping the two memory cards
Inserting a bootable disk (it never gets to the point of reading anything although the drive spins up)
Checking that everything in the system board was plugged in
Making sure none of the wires were hitting anything else (shorting out)
When replacing that annoying cover from over the memory cards, made sure again I was not pinching any wires
The server does not beep and the (directly connected) monitor never comes alive to display anything when I attempt to reboot.
Per the docs, I observed the power supply Diagnostic LEDs and front panel Power LED while attempting to boot and only the green Diagnostic LED on the power supply is ever activated.  The table indicated this means replace the system board.
    Aack!
Before I head for the support # and an eventual shipment back to Lenovo, would it be worth my while to try and replace the CMOS battery?  Or would a failure of that battery still have resulted in some indication of the problem (beeping and/or screen display)?  Can anyone think of something else to check?
Just thought I'd ask around before assuming that I'm stuck with the system board diagnosis).
    Thanks

The list of things that will make a computer power down on it's own before it can ever get into the OS or initiate a video feed is a short list.
A CPU thermal trip usually occurs within 30 seconds.  This can be cause by a loose or improperly seated heat sink or a failure in the thermal grease coverage.  If your D10 arrived with one CPU and you recently installed a second CPU, try taking the second CPU out.  Should this work, verify the second CPU is the exact match to the first CPU and that the thermal grease is properly applied to the heat sink and the heat sink is securely mounted.
Ambient temperature thermal trip usually takes longer, but can be significantly shorten if the air baffle for the memory is not installed.  Computers with high Front Side Bus frequencies result in memory DIMMS that get very hot.
DC power trip.  This can happen if too much power is being drawn through any of the PCI ports or through the power supply itself.
When you are using a highend video card, check to see if the video card has it's own power connector(a small six lead box).  If it does, there is a power connector, from the power supply, to plug into it.  Without that power plugged in, the video card may appear to hum, and the it will draw too much power through the PCI slot.
Should you have added any additional PCI adapters, try removing these for a test. If that works, add one card back in at a time to isolate the offending PCI card.
Disconnect any USB or Firewire devices you may have attached, including the mouse and keyboard.  If it comes back up and you have video, power down and reconnect the keyboard and mouse only and try again.
If you have the memory card reader option and kids, check to make certain no one has inserted something into the memory card readers.  My kid inserted a quarter into one of the slots on my reader.  My workstation powered down pretty fast.   Consider moving the workstation to higher ground.
Last by not least, disconnect any additional optical drives you may have added.  Some SATA devices have both the standard PC power connector and the SATA power connector.  Do not connect both of these power sources to the same drive.  The drive will be damaged and your computer will not stay powered on for very long.
Should this all fail to resolve the issue, contact Lenovo support.  To make your support experience faster and more pleasurable, send them this list of things you tried.  If this list of possible fixes fails, it's probably a power supply or system board issue, and I would start with the power supply.
If an electronic device has a defect it will fail within the first 90 days.  Once you get it past the first 90 days, it is generally good for years.
    I hope this helps!!!

  • 10.4.9 and corrupted screen display

I updated my 1.83Ghz MacBook Pro to 10.4.9 today, but when I wake it from sleep, the screen display is severely corrupted. I need to hit the power button, and get it to sleep/wake up again before the screen clears and the machine is usable. Anyone else notice this?

I am experiencing the same issue on a new MacBook Pro after going to sleep.
However, you can actually enter your log-in details (if you've set up log-in after sleep under security), and access the Finder, but the screen is still corrupted.
However, if I close the lid, and reopen, the problem resolves itself, i.e. the screen is no longer corrupted, and I can log-in as normal, i.e. so, you don't need to power cycle.
Previously, I tried resetting P-RAM, and that also seemed to temporarily resolve the issue, but it occurred again about a week later.
I have a feeling it may be something to do with the "Safesleep" file being corrupted, and I have tried to disable that via Terminal using the following command (usual disclaimer about making changes via Terminal): sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
(NB. default setting is 3 if you want to turn this feature back on).
I tried that yesterday, and the issue hasn't re-occurred yet, but will keep you posted. I suspect that isn't really the issue, because I'm not always trying to recover from the safesleep file, i.e. just normal sleep after a few minutes without any power loss.

  • Z10 Security Wipe

Hey, I started a security wipe on my phone 5 today  and now it's 10, and it's still at the screen with the printer looking thing, and a swirling icon thing. Idk what to do from here, think my phone's busted or something.... Could you give me some info please

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here is a KB that discusses that error:
KB33494 Performing a Security Wipe on BlackBerry 10 takes longer than expected
Unfortunately, from what you report, you've already exceeded the time length that the KB discusses...leaving you likely with only one option...pulling the battery and then following the instructions that the KB links to.
Good luck and let us know!

ignore backup in my directions to reload teh OS to get you going. Dont foget to use the same BBID to get your apps back once it is reloaded.
First I would like you to do a Back Up of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software.
This can be downloaded for free from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
After the Back Up is complete I need you to unplug your PlayBook and then push and hold down the Power Button until the unit Force Powers Off.
Now, while Desktop Software is still open on your computer and the PlayBook Powered Off, Connect the PlayBook to your computer.
You should see and error screen from Desktop Software pop up that has the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
    QUICKLY choose the Update option.
This will erase all the information off of your PlayBook and Re-Write the Software back onto it. Once it's complete your PlayBook will need to go back through the setup wizard, and you can then perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your information. The only thing that won't come back after the restore are the apps that you downloaded from App World but they can be easily Re-Installed using the My World feature in App World.

  • Security wipe problem

Please I tried to do a security wipe on my blackberry z10 for over 9 hours now since last night it did not come on and when I took off the battery and put it back it showed me this link just on the screen please I need assistance

If you had encryption enabled on your device, it can take 12-15 hours and according to how much data you had on the memory of your device.
Let it sit and wipe. I would recommend having it connected to the wall outlet charger during this time so as to not deplete the battery.
