Security word verification

No words show in the space when asked to verify. Help.

That's something I've not encountered before.
I'm not really a Mac specialist, but I'll give it a try until someone familiar with this answers it. (It really doesn't like you, does it.)
1. Click the little blue apple on the desktop top bar and a window will drop down. Click 'System Preferences'. Click 'Security'. Are any of the little boxes checked? Uncheck them.
2. When you set your browser's 'home page', did you set it to one that requires a password? You can try diagnosing the problem, and learn something of how your Mac works.
3. If your home page requires a password, open KeyChain, as below, and be sure your 'Access Control' has 'Confirm before allowing access' checked, and 'Always' is the answer in the Pop-up window. Otherwise, (by default) that website's password is never made available.
4. Try creating a new, non-administrator's account, take the default settings, and see whether it happens.
Password Philosophy
Your Mac is designed so you need remember only your login password (and you can bypass even that). Any tine a sneaky person a a cafe might cause some mischief, the Mac asks for a password. When you're about to modify you Mac in a way that will affect all accounts, it will ask you to confirm your Administrator's password (your login password on an administrator's account: the first account created is always an administrator's). When you request access to another computer, by logging into a network or a website, that computer will ask for a consistent password. Here, I like to choose random ones, if Keychain will memorize it. Very low security websites may permit cookies to memorize your password; while not as secure, I do this. Very high security websites, such as my bank, don't permit passwords to be memorized by my Mac. That's how it's supposed to work. You have 'harden' this security with the Security selections above.
Firefox Passwords
Safari and Firefox are not security risks. I create a Visitor's account, and let anyone use them. You can see what passwords Firefox has memorized by clicking Preferences > Security. Be sure 'Use a Master Password' is not clicked. Click 'Saved Passwords' to see whether you have any.
Safari Passwords
The safer passwords are in KeyChain, in your 'Utility' directory (or 'Applications, I can never remember'). Open it. Click 'Passwords'. If I click the top bar of 'Kind', to sort that column, I see only four 'application passwords'. None is Safari or Firefox. Do you?
Keychain I can use as follows. I thumb down the list of Web form passwords until I reach 'login.afterdawn.com'. After it is my login name. If I click it, a little window will pop-up. It tells me the exact http address of the website, my account name there (again), and permits comments about this website.
These are your password's 'attributes'. Because I, too, use two browsers (for security reasons), I might like to access this website from both. So, I click 'access control'. Only 'Confirm before allowing access' is checked. In principal, I can control my password's use in many ways; but I never learned how. When I ask to view my password, I enter my login password and click 'Once', so it will ask for it next time.
I could never understand the help menu here, so others must help you with variations on these standard settings.
Best of luck!

  • Certain websites like Craigslist show a scrambled, blurry security word image that the user has to type into a field in order to submit an ad. With Firefox, the word doesn't show up in the field. I have to open Explorer to accomplish this task.

When a user posts an ad on Craigslist, they are sent an e-mail with a link. Clicking on this link brings the user to a page where the ad content can be checked, and the last step is to retype the scrambled security word into a field. When I'm on Firefox, this word (which I'm assuming is an image file like a .jpg or a .bmp) does not appear.
I just had this same problem on a website called Sailing Anarchy when trying to register a new account.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
    * Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions
    * Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
    * Check the exceptions in Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions
    * Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.

  • Security word entry problem

Hi, so when I am web browsing with my iPad2 and I have to enter a security word for a website to know I am indeed a human, the website always comes back to me saying i input the information incorrectly. I have checked I am entering the information correctly, I am aware sometimes they are case sensitive and that the ipad will default to the first letter being a capital and have changed that. I still get the problem every time. I have checked the websites on my laptop and they worked first time on both so I know the websites are working ok.
Is there something I am missing?
    Cheers,
    Greg

OK. Try the following 'standard' fixes for Safari and see if they have any impact :
Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • When buying tickets through Ticketmaster an.d other vendors, the "security words" do not appear under Firefox

During the ticket purchase process, the purchaser is asked to enter two "security words" that are presented in a somewhat difficult to read (almost cartoon) format. My problem is that these two words don't appear even though the rest rest of the screen does. I must switch to Netscape or Internet Explorer which display the words.

  • Security question verification email is set to a different email than my apple ID

Oddly enough, the Itunes store will not let me purchase new msuic without verifying my account now, even though I made a purchase on this computer about a week ago. It wants me to verify via my billing information and security questions. However, I can only remember one of my secert questions, and when I attempt to reset my security questions via email, it appears that the verification email is sent to the wrong address - not to my apple ID email. The email is sent to a .au email instead of my .com one. Just to be clear, I do not own or have access to the .au email address.
Can someone point me in the right direction to have this problem resolved?
    Thank you for your time.
    Justin.

The reset link will show the rescue email address that you have on your iTunes account - it can't be the same as your primary email address (not alternate email addresses), so it will be different.
You won't be able to change the address until you can answer your questions, you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset you can then use the steps on this page to change your rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620
Or, if it's available in your country, you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570

  • I cannot access the secure word section of kiwibank, New Zealand, as I log in account number & password Firefox flashes a message at the top tp allow it, however when I click 'allow' the bank comes back with the message that my access has timed out and I

I am attempting to access KiwiBank online banking using Firefox (my preferred browser). It allows me to enter my account access number and password but when I click through to the next window which is a secure password window, Firefox flashes at the top pf the page asking me to allow the cookies, I click allow however the KiwiBank window then goes to another window stating my session has timed out - after 3 attempts the bank locks me out 9which is a tad frustrating :o0
== URL of affected sites ==

    # Yes, if you go to accounts.firefox.org, sign out, you will now be signed out.
    # Sign back in, and you will be asked to save the password you entered.
    # This will save the password and autocomplete if you have this option turned on.
I am not exactly sure why the menu did not detect the password change or if it was stored incorrectly after you changed it? But after storing the correct password you can manage any duplicate passwords in the password manager.[[Password manager - Remember, delete and change saved passwords in Firefox]]

  • How to secure word docs, access only via username and password?

I have created a CMS (Content Management System) where
residents can access publicly made available word documents
uploaded via the web by authourised members of a residents
    association. (no password needed)
    password only needed to upload
I have also created a section for excecutive members only
where documents for coming meetings are kept, but are not yet
available to general residents. (password is needed to view these)
All works fine apart from the executive section, all the
documents seem to get 'spidered' no matter what is in the robot.txt
    file.
this i know as i have been tracking visitors to it.
the pages are not yet live or in use as i want to be sure
that these 'not for public viewing' file are not viewed until they
    are in the public folder.
each section will have their own folder, but google has
'spidered' all pages! it seems that google and other sites are not
taking notice of the robot.txt, i have read on some sites that this
is common. how they do this is beyond me, i though that you could
only spider a site that had a home page and that you follow all
links contained within this initial page.? seems that this is not
    the case.
what other methods can i try out that will protect these
    files.
(please do not reply with, do not put them on the site!) i
have had this with other forums in the past.
    only sesible answers please.
and thank you in advance for your time.

i have been busy looking around but not finding anything.
My PHP scripts at present accept the word docs and store them
    in folders, lets say, www.site.com/secretfolder/...
One suggestion is to have them in a database, this is not
idea, but is going to be the last resort.
the idea i like most is to have the outside the root www
    folder.
what i am not sure of is how i allow access to them if normal
access can not be used. i.e. www.site.com/myfolder/file.doc
one way that has been suggested is streaming but this
completely eludes me, i first thought streaming was for sound and
video, but that aside, please can someone provide some links to
sites that show some examples or more information on how i do this.
i do not need the file to be uploaded as i can change my
scripts to upload to the new folder that is outside the root www
folder, what i do not understand is how i get the file back from
this outside root folder to the user that is wanting to view it.
my way of thinking is to create a temp folder inside the www
folder but this means that the files will then be available to the
robots again and if i was to have the folder cleaned after the file
is taken what happens if the server or the persons pc was to crash
or something, then the script will not complete and the file will
still be available to view by the robots.
    or is their another way

  • Security word embedded in graphic

    Hi,
How do I create distorted graphic image with (random) security code in it so that (presumably) only human can read it?
I guess this technique becomes more or less common to prevent page submission by bots.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
How do I create distorted graphic image with (random)
security code in it so that (presumably) only human
    can read it?
Create a String, turn it into an image, and overlay it with a semi-transparent bitmap showing some semi-random (but not completely random, to prevent the option of automatic filtering of random noise) pattern.
If you use a weird font and relatively low contrast for the text it becomes harder and harder for both computers and humans.
I guess this technique becomes more or less common to
    prevent page submission by bots.
Yes, and several such systems have already been cracked.

  • Security filter verification failed

    Hi All,
We are trying to create security filter which is combination of 4 sparse dimensions.
The relationship between members in the filter is AND (so the filter will be created under one row).
We encountered the below error in applying security filter
    ====
    [Mon Apr 13 03:42:16 2009]Local/GLOBAL///Error(1200467)
Error parsing formula for [REGION DEFINITION]: status code [1130203] in function [@_U]
    [Mon Apr 13 03:42:16 2009]Local/GLOBAL///Error(1200467)
Error parsing formula for []: status code [1130203] in function []
    ====
It seems like if the combination of the members on the filter hit the limit of allocated memory, the filter got failed.
Is there any way to calculate how many memory absorb in one filter?
or is there any memory limitation for security filter?
It will be great If anyone can share the experience of this issue.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Ai

That's interesting, I have never head of a limit on the number of members that a filter can address. How many accounts do you have in your database?
I took a look at the Limits section of the DBAG and found the following re filter limits:
    Filter name
    * Non-Unicode application limit: 30 bytes
    * Unicode-mode application limit: 30 characters
    Number of security filters
    * Per Essbase Server, 65535
    * Per Essbase database, 32290See: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_esb_dbag/limits.htm#limits_1
That's it -- nothing on the number of members that can be addressed in a filter. Of course it is possible (insert sacarsm, irony, or wonder per your personality) that the documentation is not correct.
I have never run into what you described, but Essbase is vast and mysterious country, so perhaps that isn't so surprising.
I'm glad you were able to find a workaround.
    Regards,
    Cameron Lackpour

  • Security question verification

    Hi,
I have a MacBook which is currently associated with another ID.
When I try to buy from iTunes with my own ID I am told that I need to verify my security questions because I have not purchased from iTunes "using this computer" - there are two problems - I cannot remember my exact security answers and I HAVE used the computer to purchase from my own account.
I know Customer Services can reset the questions, but I'm out of the country (the US I mean). Can they still phone me back or allow me to reset the questions when I using a foreign phone number?
Aolso, can I use my friend's email (which is currently her own Apple ID) as my rescue email?
    Regards

    Please call apple @ 1-800-694-7466
ask for the account security team
you may want to add a credit card to your iTunes account  before calling; so they will have a way to verify your identity.
    Peace, Clyde
