when i open a new tab in firefox, it takes to me to a 'fast browser search' page and i would like to set it to open google.co.uk instead :(
It would seem if your choose "Show my windows and tabs from last time" '''''and''''',
*when you last closed Firefox, you had no web site open (just a blank tab), that it would open just that blank tab
*when you last closed Firefox, you had one or more tabs/web site open, that would allow you to "Restore Previous Session"
#Have you tried that?
#If so, what is happening in each circumstance when you reopen Firefox?
'''Restore Previous Session'''<br />
Open tabs are automatically saved when closing Firefox beginning in Firefox 4. To open your last session, after Firefox starts, click History > Restore Previous Session. For this to work
#You must be remembering history (Options > Privacy > Remember my browsing history).

How do I set new windows to open my homepage, but new tabs to open blank?
I have my browser set to restore the previous session when I open Firefox, and new tabs to open blank. With these settings, I used to be able to open new windows and have my homepage load, while keeping the behaviors previously mentioned intact, but when I open a new window now, I get a blank page.
Is there any way to restore the previous behavior, or are all tabs now seen as the same now, whether they're opened as part of new windows or existing windows?(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and change from the default (about:newtab) to '''about:blank'''.
You can test immediately by pressing Ctrl+t or clicking the "+" button. -
Why does Safari open my last visited page?? I have gone into preferences and said to open to homepage when starting safaring or opening a new tab yet each time it opens to the last page I visited.
Hold down "shift" key and launch Safari
or hold down "option" key before quitting Safari to discard saved windows from previous session.
Disable Resume feature.
10.7 Lion
System Preferences > General
Uncheck the box next to "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps".
10.8 Mountain Lion
System Prefernces > General
Chckmark the box next to "Close windows when quitting an application". -
BB 10 Browser - Homepage and New Tab options
Hi all I'm hoping someone can answer a couple questions.
First, is it possible to set my home screen to my bookmarks list?
Secondly, can I set my New Tab page to also show my bookmarks list only?
Third, is there any way to make it so when I press 'K' to open my bookmarks list, that the bookmark opens in a new tab by default?
The new tab page choices are not ideal for me, as it shows sub domains which I do not care for when opening a new page. Opening a bookmark from the bookmarks list replaces my currently open tab, which I do not want often, and I'd rather have old tabs open than replace a current tab that I want to keep. And if I open the new tab screen then press 'K' for the shortcut it begins to search my history instead of opening the bookmarks screen.
Really, I only need one of these three options to be possible to make my browsing time on the Passport pleasant, but right now I can't find a way to do any of those things!Actually your idea will work. Create an html file containing the sites you want as a one page web based bookmarks. Email the file to yourself and save it (you get to choose)
Use file browser to open the html file you created
This file will open in the browser and should show you all the sites you want and you can click on them to open the page
Set this page (which is just a pointer to the file) to your homepage (To do this click on the 3 vertical dots icon, select settings, Select Display and Actions, select Current Page)
Set the "On Startup Show" option to My Home Page...
Now when you open the browser it should open to your custom bookmarks html page
Cheers
Mike

How di i set homepage to new tab
I want to set homepage when I open another tab
In FF 5 you will need new tab URL, as new tab home page no longer works in version 5. I wish Firefox would just add this feature. I think every browser can do this except Firefox. Firefox is the only browser I have used that I need plug ins for.

Firefox keeps open firefox homepage in new tab
After updating to ver. 20.0 whenever I open Firefox, it starts by going through the plug-in compatibility check, then it opens the browser to not only my homepage, but also to the Firefox homepage for downloading the Android version. Running Windows 8 64bit on a dual boot laptop along side Windows 7. This problem is not present on Windows 7 side of the laptop!!
See these articles for some suggestions:

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' symbols.
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page
You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

"New Tab" opens in stead of homepage.
I noticed today that when I start up Firefox a new tab opens instead of my homepage, which is yahoo.com. I looked in options and my settings are still the same as before, to open www.yahoo.com. Is there a solution to correct this? It's set to open homepage, not new tab.
Hello,
# What is the value of the option '''browser.startup.homepage''' on '''about:config''':
#*[http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config]
This happens in safe mode?

Firefox start page opens up as new tab whenever my home page opens
I've changed the default home page to another website.
Whenever Firefox starts up, two tabs will open ie. my homepage and Firefox start page. While browsing on any tab, if I click ALT+HOME to go to homepage, a new tab opens again for the firefox start page.
Why is this happening? It didn't happen with older firefox browser versions.I have the same issue and figured it out. When you (and I) set our home pages, the Firefox start page was open also. Firefox takes every tab you have open when you set your home page. So close all but 1 tab and go to your desired home page and set it through the Tools>options>General tab. That fixed it for me.

if i'm on a site and click a link to open a new tab, the tab will open but the page never loads. i just get a blank page, and instead of the page name on the new tab, it says "click (GIF Image, 1x1 pixal)" and the address bar will have this http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=6o8JG0hWlQI&offerid=143696.10000259&subid=0&type=4&afsrc=1&u1=01_2270023365_101019092649_184443883_Z. this happens to me on more than one site. i can't figure it out...please help. if you click on the link, you'll see what i see when the new tab open. i hope someone can tell me how to fix this.
Many thanks, solved issue I have had for weeks

Not the upper right the center one when you click on new tab
I'm guessing you want to use Google as your new tab page?<br>
You can do that by editing about:config:
*Go to about:config (via Location Bar)
*Click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" to proceed.
*Search for '''browser.newtab.url'''
*Right click and click Modify > type '''www.google.com'''
*Then click OK to accept changes
*Restart Firefox and see if the new tab pulls up as Google. -
In the line of tabs along the top of the screen, there used to be an extra tab with a + in it that you clicked to open a new tab, on the right hand end of the tabs. As the tabs always float left and new tabs appear on the right this was (in my opinion) the most logical place for it. However, now the only two places I am able to put this "tab" are at the extreme left, which is illogical seeing as the new tab appears on the right, or in the toolbar along with other tools. This is adequate, but I would prefer to see the "new tab" tab back where it was.
The option to put it on the far right of the tab ribbon was not working until this latest version of Firefox, by the way, but I'm sure you know this! Thanks. I don't know why it wouldn't just go back there when I tried putting it back? I didn't change anything, so I assumed the new "default" was over on the left. Glad it was a simple solution after all.

I like to have my home button restore multiple tabs for me. Sometimes I close some of the default tabs or they move from their default pages. Based on my experience with internet explorer I first select the left most tab and then hit the home button. It restores all saved tabs in the default. With Firefox is always opens brand new tabs and moves the existing ones to the right. Is there a setting to make it not open all new tabs.
That's the way the Homepage button works in Firefox, it reloads one tabbed homepage and opens all the rest of your homepages in new Tabs, appending the Tabs that are already open.
IIRC, the TabMix Plus extension has an option to reload your Homepages in existing tabs. -
In Options --> General --> I want the option to "Show my windows and tabs from last time" '''''AND''''' "Show my homepage", but that choice isn't given. When I open a new tab, I'd like to see my iGoogle page, not a blank screen. Hope you can help. D
You can middle-click or Ctrl left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.
You can look at one of these extensions:
* NewTabURL : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl/
* New Tab Homepage : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/ -
On my old computer, all my tabs always opened to what my homepage was set to: iGoogle. Now with my new computer, my homepage is set, but all new tabs open with Yahoo! I've tried looking at tab setting but don't see a place to set it. Help!
The behavior that you have is not the default Firefox behavior, which always opens a blank tab. You will have an add-on that is causing this. Check for any Yahoo related add-ons to see if they have this option. The freeze net assistant add-on is another one that opens Yahoo in a new tab.
There are add-ons that allow you to specify what should appear on a new tab, but these may conflict with the add-on that is opening Yahoo.
* NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
* New Tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage
Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar.
