See the other person typing in iChat
Why can't I see when some people are typing a message to me, but I can see most people typing a message to me? It's helpful to see everybody so you don't close the window while someone is responding to you
Hi,
If this happens to be with a Buddy List that Logs in to AIM it can be about the "Client" or App that they are using at their end.
Not all Apps or Clients as they are sometimes called can send the info that the person is typing.
AT the same time that is not to say that the Sender is not having problems with their end.
It is unlikely to be your end if some are seen typing and some are not.

i was wondering if it is possible, this person i believe uses a Android or Iphone, for the camera to be turned off for video chat? I can never see the other person but they can see me - and i can see myself during the video chat. My video which they see i also see takes up the whole screen. This issue also is the same for when i use Windows and video chat with this person.

You have to enable it in SKYPE. Open up Sykpe click on tools then select options . When that windows opens select video settings. Then you well see select webcam click on White box select your web cam choices. Windos 7 HP computers it is called HP web camra filter. I just close out the filter stuff if I am not using it during chat session. Some HP computers call it cybrlink web cam. If your web cam isn't listed yet the web cam still works in other applications your Skype software might be corrupted. Just uninstall Sykpe and reinstated it back with a new copy download http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-computer/ If you are still having issues please let us know. Thank you frrw. -

Once the connection is made you should automatically see the other person full screen, with a small inset picture of yourself. Normally you only see yourself full screen after you initiate the call prior to the other person accepting it. Are you both connected to wi-fi and are you initiating the call by tapping the FaceTime button on the other person's contact?

Your speaker is working with all other Apps and Audio Calls? If yes, it doesn't appear to be Hardware. Don't know what is causing it, but if it is software related then you can try an iPhone Reset by holding the Sleep Button and the Home Button down together for a bout 15 to 20 seconds until you see the white Apple logo ...then just let go of the two buttons and wait until the iPhone comes back up to your lock-screen. Try another FaceTime Call. If it still doesn't work you might have to update Software to iOS 7.1.1 if you are not already on it. If it still doesn't work, you might do a true iPhone Restore to a clean New In Box type configuration without Restoring from Backup. Don't worry in that after you test this configuration you can then Restore from your last good Backup. I would be thinking at that point that some Application you have on your iPhone was conflicting with the FaceTime App.

I am using AIM in ichat and i can see the other person but cant hear them
They can see and hear me and ventrillo works for sound as does itunes and game so its not, systems/sound or i wouldnt have sound at all

Devices do have to be Set in System Preferences > Sound > output tab AND in iChat Menu > Preferences > Video/Audio section as the Output device (drop down if you have more than one).
Some Blue Tooth Headsets require that they are set in System Preferences > Sound > Input an Output tabs before setting in iChat.
If set up already set the iChat to any other output first then set System Preferences (Again) and then return to iChat to make it appear the Blue Tooth headset is being set "last" (As in Last step).

Why is it that when I use face time I cant't see the person on the other end. I hear everything just fine but there's a black screen...
Does the from camera work with the camera app?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

When I use facetime with my fiance on my brand new macbook air she can see me but I can't see her. Please help me remedy this problem, I have verified that I am logged into facetime and connected it with both my ipone5 and my email but haven't seen any changes. It is a 1 week old macbook air and I'm assuming it has the latest iOS installed but don't know how to check as this is my first Macbook. Thank you for your help

MacBook Air does not run iOS. It runs OS X (pronounced as in OS - ten). You can check which version you have by clicking the Apple logo in the upper left of the menu bar, then "About This Mac". The current version is OS X 10.8.4. If you do not have that version, you can click "Software Update" just below the "About This Mac" entry under the Apple logo.
Anyway, typically, the reason for the FaceTime behavior you're describing is a less-than-robust internet WiFi connection. -
I can't see the other person when I video chat! and its reallly annoying!!!
I can hear them, and they can see/hear me. It kinda stalker haha. So basically I tried to change the bandwith limit to 500 kbps, and under quicktime preferences changed the streaming to 1.5 mbps. AND THE SAME THING KEEPS HAPPENING. This has been going on for like a month, I called an apple guy and hes a moron. Can anyone fix this?? I used to be able to 3-way vchat and see everyone and no i can't do anythingggggg. PLEASE HELP ME?!?! Thank you so much,

i looked at all the settings in hope to find my soulutuion. i can only see myself during the call? they can see me as well. i would like to see them. but how?just downloaded this for my galaxy s3 with the same exact results? am i missing a setting somewhere?

How do you tell if the other person is typing or not?
Hi, I have ichat 5.0.3 but I have had this problem on all my ichat versions since I started using
it on my eMac way back in 2004.
When I use AIM, or Yahoo, Skype, or MSN messenger, I can tell if the other person is typing or not and then if they are typing, I can wait for them to finish before I say something. But on iChat I have never been able to do this.
Can someone tell me how to tell if the person I am chatting with is replying to me by typing?

Further Note.
If you happen to be inked on a LAN to other Macs and everyone has the Bonjour option in iChat On they you can select to "Send as you Type" (AIM on PC has this feature over Internet Connections and it is Called "Real Time").
However one should remember that someone could be reading it as you type and it is not the same as typing something you would like to say but can't and deleting before sending a revised message.

Hi there, since I installed Mavericks, when I am having a video conference with Facetime, and I maximize its window, the other person stops seeing me (my camera turns off.
Is this a bug? or do we have any solution to this annoying issue?

Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
