Seeburger BIC vs Informatica Conversion Agent

Hi Experts,
I am hoping I can seek some feedback on the above mentioned subject. I am going through an implementation currently which involves EDIFACT and X12 - various message types e.g. Orders, Desadv, Invoice, Order Confirmation and a few more.
As part of the implementation we need to choose a tool to do EDI to XML conversion which can also do EDIFACT/X12 validations (syntax & semantic) plus a functional Acknowledgment.
The two final options we have chosen are Informatica's Conversion Agent and Seeburger BIC (given we are using Seeburger FTP adapter for communication already).
Now to make a final decision I was hoping if some people can share their experience (s) and give some pro's and con's for choosing one or the other please?
Any comments will be highly appreciated.
regards

Hi mimranacc,
I was hoping if someone can comment on Conversion Agent as well or if there is a white paper on the comparison of the two?
I have extensively worked on Conversion Agent. My experience has been real good with this tool. It is quite handy and easy to use.
Apart from unstructured messages from MS Word, PDF, Excel, PowerPoint etc, Conversion Agent can manage semi-structured formats like EDI, HL7, ANSI X12, COBOL and HIPA.
It consists of set of libraries that are deployed on PI's J2EE server and is accessed by AE during runtime.
The +ve points are -
1. Very easy to install and use,
2. Easily integrated with SAP PI,
3. No additional adapter required for transformation to / from XML,
4. No extra adapters installed on PI server, which enhances the performance,
5. Monitor Conversion Agent messages in Integration Server.
Unfortunately, I haven't worked with Seeburger BIC, so can't provide you a comparison.
Hope this helps.

  • Conversion Agent By Informatica and Versions

    Hi Everyone,
I need some help in relation to conversion agent. Quick back ground doing an implementation using PI 7.1, Seeburger FTP adapter and Conversion Agent (The incoming message is EDIFACT + X12).
Now I need to validate this EDIFACT message and convert it to XML for which we are planning to use Conversion Agent.
The confusion I have is that apparently there are libraries of Conversion agent which can do strict validations on edifact while converting to XML however basis team keeps on giving me the Content Master (eclipse + converison agent plugin bundle) by itemsfield and I don't see these new libraries or strict libraries in there.
What i am confused with now is where can i get the the latest version of ConversionAgent, will it have libraries (new libraries) as part of it???? is there such a thing?
    regards
Also whats the difference between ConversionAgent by Itemfield vs Conversion Agent by Informatica really?

    Hi Again,
Please have a look at this url
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/en/43/fc39c16bfb025ee10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm
then there is a link for "Conversion Agent libraries"
in that PDF page 18 is talking about two sets of libraries.
That should clear up what i am trying to say.
I am highly thankful for quick responses.

  • Seeburger EDI conversion Vs XI Conversion Agent EDI conversion?

We have implemented Seeburger's EDI solution at a client, and our another client wants to an EDI solution for them.
I cam across this weblog, and it is very interesting. I have some questions.
    1. Does Converstion Agent support the converstion of all versions of native EDI X12 and EDIFACT to the corresponding XML verions, and vice versa.
    2. What are the differences between Seeburger's and XI Conversion Agent's EDI soultions?
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Karma,
SAP Conversion Agent by Itemfield is a data conversion system that enables you to create interfaces between any data formats and XML-based systems. The Conversion Agent can convert unstructured, semi-structured, and structured formats to XML, and the other way around.
Have a look at these links:
    /people/william.li/blog/2006/03/17/how-to-get-started-using-conversion-agent-from-itemfield

Seeburger EDI Adapter provides an EDI solution on internet via HTTP or AS2 to replace the expensive VAN. It provides some pre-built mappings for IDOC to ANSI X12(810,850,855,856 etc.,) and Idoc to EDIFACT(ORDERS,DESADV,INVOIC etc.,) and has the ability to build your own. These pre-defined mappings transform the IDOC-XML to EDI-XML format.
These transformed EDI-XML messages are then converted to EDI specific format using the Seeburger's BIC(Business Integration Converter)adapter. In addition, Seeburger provides adapters like AS2,FTP(EDI specific) and so on to route these EDI messages to external EDI Partners.
For more i would suggest you to go through these links:

Seeburger EDI Adapter leverages SAP XI's Adapter Framework. This Adapter is used to perform conversion between EDI and XML format. It also provides some canned EDI layouts and the ability to build your own. It is used to transfer the EDI message via HTTP or AS2 protocols.
The most direct way of using the Seeburger adapters is to configure the BIC as a module. There is a software component from seeburger called bicmapper which will allow you to do the following:
    1. define or import the inbound message metadefinition in various formats ( edifact, xml,...)
    2. using a mapping create an xml variant as the output metadefinition or edifact in the other direction.
    3. create a one to one mapping between input en output.
    4. export the metadata in xsd or sda format for import in XI.
    5. generate an SDA which can be deployed in XI and used as a module.
Please go through the following links which clearly explains what you want and it also helps you in understanding the same in depth:

There are also a few ways to use EDI with the ALE system of R3.
    inbound EDI to R3
1.use a 3rd party adapter for the EDI protocol(eg.SEEBURDER) from the EDI system, send the produced XML to the XI ,map the xml message to a matching IDoc using the IDoc adapter.
outbound ALE message from R3 to EDI system
    1. Configure the ALE system to point to the XI the relevant IDoc (SM59,WE21,WE20...)
2.use a file adapter3rd party EDI adapter and map the fields to the target structure.
have a look at this example:
    http://www.ean.se/EANCOM%202000/iftmin/example.htm
Details on how to configure can be found on SDN
    I hope this helps....

  • Conversion Agent by Informatica - serializing mappers

    Hi Guys,
I need to create a Conversion agent module (To be called with in Comm channel of XI).
The module will be constructed of a parser and 2 mappers.
1st parser will parse a CSV file to XML.
2nd mapper will change the XML structure from non-hierarchical to Hierarchy XML .
3rd map will perform Additional transformation before the SAP PI standard adapter module is called.
please elaborate - does this method of transformation can be carried out using the ItemField tool.
and if so, how (what function should I call+short explanation)

    > Will the standard CallAdapter module be able to still mange
    > the archive of the original mesasge although the ouput of each converison module
    > is different?
Yes, as long as the output of each stage is compatabile with the input of the next stage. You can imagine this as a module chain with each step in a serail fashion.
    >Original file - CSV.
    > Parser - output XML
    > Mapper - output XML
    > Need to archive the roginal CSV..
You can do this while you are picking up the file using the File adapter. Please see the below link. you have to set the processing mode as "Archive".

  • Seeburger BIC Mapping Designer: Special Character (German Umlaut) Problem

    Hi,
i have created a Mapping with Seeburger Mapping Designer (Invoicd96a to XML). I started the test environment, compiled the mapping and converted the Message to XML. I got a syntax error in the destination file so i added the setSourceEncoding("UTF-8") option and i got a working xml file.
My problem is that all special characters, will be displayed as ? So the word "Beträge" will be converted to "Betr?ge".
What i have to di, to fix this problem ?

    hi,
i have to create an Edifact to XML Mapping with the BIC Mapping Designer. After creation i can deploy this mapping to SAP XI and calling it by using it as module in the specified adapter.
My idea is that the mapping should working correct in test enviroment before i deploy to SAP PI.
    Perhaps anyone has an idea.

  • XI supports EDIFACT without SAP Conversion Agent and others.

    Hello.
Somebody knows the best way to convert EDIFACT message using XI?
What I can do this without using softwares of conversion like:
    - SAP Conversion Agent;
    - Seeburger;
    - BIC Mapper and others.
    Thanks very much in advance.

    Hi,
See for converting the EDI XML to EDI you need to have a mapping program at the adapter module which does the conversion. For this module you need a BIC tool of seeburger which provides the different module program for EDI to XML and XML-EDI. This program needs to be deployed on XI and through adapter it has to be called for conversion.

  • Conversion agent-edi850 purchase order document

    HI,
i saw a blog which shows the conversion of EDIFACT to IDOC byy using conversion agent in XI.
    (/people/bla.suranyi/blog/2006/06/08/sap-xi-supports-edifact)
    i want to convert a EDI850 a   ANSIX12  document into IDOC......
    Can someone help...........?

    Hi Mithun,
I think you are aware of the fact that SAPXI system doesnt understand the EDI messages directly.....So in u r case u need to first tranform EDI data into XML format in whcih the XI can understand...........So for EDI -to->XML...u need SEEBURGER (BIC Design mapper tool do define the mapping between EDI and XML) by which u can convert the message into XML.
And in XI system u can convert the tranformed XML into IDOC using mapping editor.............
So u cant directly convert the EDI messages into idoc in XI....

  • Seeburger BIC Mapping deployment issue in PI 7.1

    Hi experts
We have upgraded from XI 3.0 to PI 7.1 and seeburger is also upgraded to  a compatible version.(2.x).
Mappings_user.sda was used in 3.0 environment.
But we are not able to deploy the same in 7.1. I think sda format is not supported in 7.1.
Is there any way to convert .sda to .sca and deploy?
Or how can we generate a compatible deployment file for 7.1?
I have tried using BIC mapping designer, but it shows the option for .sda and .jar only.
    Thanks in advanceDhanish Joseph

    Hi
I have installed BICMD  632 version and imported .BICMD project file.
Then assigned sda/sca number to it and created deploy file.(Mapping_user00.sda).
Then installed this in PI system using JSPM.
I have tested allmost all the mappings successfully except one in PI system.(EDI 990 message).
When i send data to PI  data comes to channel and it shows conversion error. But detailed information not available.
In seeburger monitoring  the message goes to recovery mode.
I have used the input 990 X12 and tested in Seeburger BIC MD. And there it is success!!!!!! So i am confused what is happening when it comes to PI system.
    I faced some issues>>>
    1.  while importing project file into BIC MD it asked for apply some autocorrection  for one map.(different than this). I have clicked on cancel
    2. When i assigned SDA number to my project i have selected 2.1.0  SDA version( 1.8.0 option was also there).
Your prompt reply is greatly appreciated .
    Thanks

    Hi all,
I am working on Seeburger BIC Mapping Designer.
As i am starting off with it, i have planned to do a very simple scenario File to file.
Source would be an XML and target also would be an xml.
Compilation is fine, but while converting I am gettuing an error

Please let me know what should be done.
Even I have enabled SetIngnoreCRLF option in the source options.

    Hi Karthick,
Where do you get this error?
    In BICMD ?
Have you created the E2X and/or X2E mapping programs in BICMD tool?
Test it locally in the tool intself before deploying the mappings to XI server.
Follow these steps to create a 1;1 mapping for XML to EDI and EDI to XML conversion program:

  • Conversion agent mapping

Does conversion agent or XI provide any out of the box mapping content to map conversion agent's EDI XML schema and IDOC XML? For example is there a mapping content (in CA or XI) between EDI_MSG_850_Purchase_Order and Orders.Orders05?  If so where can I get it?
But I know it provides conversion of native edi to xml format via adapter modules.
I read lot of blogs and forums, but couldn't find this information.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Why dont u got for seeburger for the EDI mapping into XML,seeburger have the standasrd mappings which are predefined and u have to define them in ur module tab in adapter.
Coverstion agant is a tool which will convert any type data that u imazine into XML but it done have the standard mappings predifined.

  • SAP Conversion Agent

    Hi,
I have browsed the net for quite some time to get some idea about EDI message handling in XI using the SAP Conversion Agent (CA). I have understood what is CA all about. but i still have few questions unanswered.
    1. How flexible or complex it is to use the the CA as compared to SEEBURGER ?
    2. It is a must to use the EDI message parsing templates provided in the CA library ?
    3. the cost factor. I have read that it is free for development and test landscapes. but for production landscape, we need to pay some license fee. Will this deprive us of any key functionality in the Dev and QUA landscape ?
I have gone throught the help document. Please help me find answers for the above questions.
    Thanks,
