Seeing rebuilt/refurbished iPhone 4s for sale on ebay.  Tempting.

Seeing rebuilt/refurbished iPhone 4s for sale on ebay.  Tempting.  Anyone know any reason not to get one from ebay?  Thanks, Nancy

1) Could be stolen.
2) Could be a scam and you'll get nothing at all; that happens on occasion even though eBay claims to provide protection against such issues.
3) Could be locked to a carrier and hacked to unlock it, which will void all support and probably would be relocked at the next OS update
4) Any "refurbished" iPhone is done by some unknown entity - only Apple can sell factory-refurbished products and they don't sell refurbished iPhones - so what was done during this "refurbishment" is completely unknown.
5) There is no guarantee that the iPhone was originally sold in your country, and an iPhone that came from elsewhere will get no support from Apple except in that country (if any would be possible after a "refurbishment" at all); you'd have to find the country yourself and send it there should any service be necessary.
Need more?
It's really a risk to buy an iPhone (or any smartphone) from an unknown and unauthorized source. I strongly suggest you either buy from someone you know, or buy from an authorized iPhone outlet.
Regards.

  • Used iPhone was for sale working perfect BUT earphone water sensor Red???

I just drove an hour to check out an iPhone 3G for sale. The phone was in great condition, and ran smooth and quickly. Everything seemed to work perfectly including the cam, wifi etc. The only problem was that the sensor in the earphone jack was half red. The seller (who I can't beleive) swore that it hadn't gotten wet and there were no indications of problems. I read that sometimes the sensors will just turn red with humidity, like when sitting in the bathroom while someone showers. Also, it had no sensor at the bottom so I suspect he scratched it off because it was probably red also. Or does that one ever fall off? If he scratched it off or not, it may not have actually gotten wet. I may have just been in a steamy bathroom or something.
Anyways, I turned it down. In the future, is there any way to check further if there actually is water damage? The phone looked and ran great. It wasn't easy to turn down for $150!

"If a device has been or is suspected to have been exposed to water or other liquids, inspect the following areas for evidence of corrosion: the dock connector, the headset/headphone jack, the dock screws, the speaker or microphone mesh, and any exposed metal parts." • List of Refurbished Verizon Phones for sale

Does anyone know if Verizon still offers refurbished Verizon phones for sale? About 3 years ago my son broke his phone and I couldn't afford a brand new one but our local Verizon store gave me a list of a whole lot of refurbished phones and I ended up getting a very nice touch phone for him for only about $75. Our store is closed today so I don't know if they still have that or not.

  • Apple store offered me refurbished iPhone 4 for replacement, I declined...

I went to a local Apple store yesterday to see if they have any option for my Death Grip iPhone 4.
After short demonstration about loosing reception, he brought a shrink wrapped black boxed iPhone 4. I asked him if it's a refurbished unit and he said yes, he also mentioned it's a service unit they received from factory. Its serial number was starting with 850 (mine as well)
I declined for exchange since I had a bad experience with 3G refurbished unit from Apple before (wireless dead after 4 months and battery was so bad)
But I'm wondering if it's really a refurbished iPhone 4 since it's only been 3 days from official launch.
Does Apple make extra new units for replacement service for newly launched products? If so, I'll go get it tomorrow.
    Any comments?

That's weird they would have refurbished already, but yes they usually do warranty replacements with refurbished product.
    According to Apple:
Apple Inc. (“Apple”) warrants this Apple-branded hardware product against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser (“Warranty Period”). If a hardware defect arises and a valid claim is received within the Warranty Period, at its option and to the extent permitted by law, Apple will either (1) repair the hardware defect at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts, (2) exchange the product with a product that is new or which has been manufactured from new or serviceable used parts and is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or (3) refund the purchase price of the product. Apple may request that you replace defective parts with new or refurbished user-installable parts that Apple provides in fulfillment of its warranty obligation. A replacement product or part, including a user-installable part that has been installed in accordance with instructions provided by Apple, assumes the remaining warranty of
the original product or ninety (90) days from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coverage for you. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes Apple’s property. Parts provided by Apple in fulfillment of its warranty obligation must be used in products for which warranty service is claimed. When a refund is given, the product for which the refund is provided must be returned to Apple and becomes Apple’s property.

  • Ho do i prepare my Motorola Droid for sale on eBay?

Just got my iPhone 4 today and plan on selling my Droid on ebay. What do I need to do to prep it for sale? I want to make sure all my personal info is off of it as well as make sure when they activate it it doesn't interrupt cell service on my iPhone.
    Thanks in advance!

Make sure everything you want is backed up from your sd card, go into Settings- SD Card & Phone Storage.  Hit unmount SD card and Format SD Card when it shows up.  Then mount the sd card back.  To clear off the phone, go to settings-privacy and choose Factory Data reset.  That should clear everything off.

  • Why iPhones selling for more on Ebay

I can't understand why people are paying/bidding more on Ebay than what is for sale on Apple site. Must be some crazy reason I suspect.

Yea, this is mostly about unlocked iPhones. Or iPhones that have not been updated so they can be unlocked. I understand why people want these, so they have a choice of carrier. Apple estimated that perhaps 250,000 of the 1 million or so might be "unlocked" (as they apparently were sold but not activated on AT&T). I sure wish Apple would move to more carrier choices in the US. I for one would like to get my iPhone on another carrier- Verizon in particular, though I understand that choice is two steps away... CDMA.

BEFORE you erase your iPhone 4, turn off FaceTime, iMessage & delete the iCloud account. After doing that, then erase the phone. If you fail to do so, your phone's IMEI number will still be associated with these services, even after you erase.

  • Logic boards for sale on ebay, anybody tried them?

So Apple does not want to fix our faulty macbook pros (which don't qualify for the nvidia timed bomb), and I'm not going to pay thousands just to get that peace of junk work again and sell it for half that price!
I, however, did some search on ebay and found so many logic boards that could replace my faulty one, the sellers claim it's all new and are authentic, but how come they got it in the first place!?! anyone had a successful experience with one of those sellers?
Otherwise should I send my Pro to the states to get the logic board replaced for free since the local apple retailer says it's not included... bla bla... so does it work that way? please help

Boomer, thanks for your reply. The reason why I am asking is that I read somebody's story on this forum that lives in chile or colombia or something, and his local apple retailer told him they can't replace the board in which nvidia's issue is not involved... then he called apple of the US and complained, then they told him they'd fix it for free if he lived in the states or at least send them the laptop... which he couldn't do. So I thought that would work for me, hopefully?
About ebay's sellers, here are some of my findings:

  • Having trouble seeing all pix, when looking for something on ebay.

When looking for an item on ebay, some of the pictures are blank.
when I open an item with a blank pix, the picture is there.

What model laptop do you have?
Have you tried using a different USB port?
If you have a USB flash drive or external hard drive, does that work when connected to the same port?

  • Refurbished iPhone 4 purchase

I brought my broken iPhone 4 into an Apple Store in London today and they told me they could sell me a refurbished iPhone 4 for 119 pounds. I am wondering how much a refurbished iPhone 4 would cost if I waited to purchase it when I return to the states.

This is a user forum. There is no way to know what Apple plans to do or when they plan to do it unless they announce.
