Seeing the new SAN in Solaris 10

Hello,
When we add our new SAN to the environment, an HDS AMS1000, will we need to do a reconfiguration reboot on our Solaris 10 servers? How about to configure multipathing (not on a boot volume)?
We currently have an IBM DS6800 and DS4800 configured into our servers. I have, in the past, added configuration information to /kernel/drv/scsi_vhci.conf. Is this required for Solaris 10? Is there a way to dynamically recognize the new SAN after it is brought online?
Thanks.

We use a DS4700 and no it does not require a reboot to see that SAN, just "devfsadm -Cv"
For the multipathing driver we did do a reboot, some kernel patches were required.
Once you have the sdd driver installed the procedure is
# devfsadm -Cv (overkill but easy)
# cfgvpath -r
# vpathmkdev
# cfgvpath -r
# devfsadm -Cv
Not sure if the last 2 are required, using the format command (and scrolling back on the first screen) you should see the new volume(s) as "unlabled" in my setup with 2 fabrics, and 2 HBAs I see 4 "regular" paths and one vpath.

  • Can not see the new appending fields in RSA6

    Hi,
    I add one appending structure to existing datasource, after that I can not see the new field in RSA6, RSO2. However I can see it from RSA2 and SE11 (for extract structure).
    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Victor

    Victor,
    can you tell me how u have done this. you have a DS in RSA6 created from RSO2. then you created a append structure right? then click on your DS on the RSA6 screen. click on change icon on the application tool bar or function key CTRL + SHIFT +F1, maintain the datasource.
    can you able to see the fields here or not (i'm asking for change mode)?
    Nagesh.

  • I don't see the new "firefox button" and i can't see the bookmark button (with the drop down option) unless I'm in the customize toolbar view. How can I fix these?

    I am using Firefox 4.0 on Windows XP home, Service pack 3. I am trying to use some of the new features of Firefox 4.0 that I see on the Firefox feature page (http://mzl.la/gCFDjj) and am not having much luck. First off in the Firefox Button. It is supposed to contain all your menu items but it is not appearing on my screen. Is this a feature that only works in Vista or Windows 7?
    Second, I am trying to use the Bookmarks Button (the one that has the drop down menu) but it doesn't appear in my toolbar unless I right click the tool bar and choose "customize". The button shows up in this view already in the toolbar, as if it is hidden in normal use and no matter where I move it to, once I hit the "done" button in the customize window the Bookmarks Button gets hidden/covered up again.
    Third, I see the new "App Tabs" feature but I can't seem to find an option for this in the preferences for Firefox, if it's even supported by my browser/OS at all.
    Can anyone tell me how to use/activate these features or if I am even able to using Windows XP?

    You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).<br />
    If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
    You only see the Bookmarks menu button if the Menu bar is hidden.

    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
    and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
    If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
    Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
    Try a different cable.
    If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
    If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
    Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
    Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
    If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
    Start up in Recovery mode and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
    Start up in Safe Mode and test.
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive is malfunctioning.

  • My MacBook Pro 2.33GHz cannot see the New Airport Extreme

    Just bought the new Airport Extreme(Wireless N). Power it up, cannot see the new wireless network under the Airport signal icon. The Machine have no problem using my older Netgear wireless router(G) and the new Linksys Wire router(N). Just connot see the new Apple Airport Extreme.
    My the other two iMac(G5 and Intel) 20" can see all three wireless network and connet to them without any problem.
    My only question is has Apple implement any "regional code" on the hardware. My MacBook Pro is from US and the new Airport Extreme was bought in New Zealand.
    Any suggestion? BTW a clean install of the System didn't help. Found out after 2-3 hours of installation of System and all my Application back.

    To use the Airport Utility you must select your network under that Airport icon but you can't. So what to try? Of course you may need to reset your router. If still not visually seen under Airport then go to system preferences/network/status and choose Airport. Look for the preferred drop down menu. If network is seeen then select it and hit apply. Then select under Airport icon then use the Airport Utility. If not seen in preferred then type in your network exact name or use the + button. The above will work you just need to keep trying.

  • HT201365 Can I turn off this update.  I can't see the new lighter colors.

    Can I uninstall this new update?  I cannot see the new lighter colors.

    Hi Hazel,
    From what I have read here it is not possible to downgrade - I wish it was!!!
    Some replies say that people should have researched what iOS7 would look like before upgrading but to be honest I just did not believe that it could be as bad as it turned out to be.
    I have sent feedback to Apple here and would encourage you to do the same - they need to know how difficult it is now the visual contrasts are so poor:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
    If you go to Settings -> General -> "Accessibility" it helps a little to do this:
    Larger type: ON
    Bold text: ON
    Increase Contrast: ON
    I found that the "Invert Colors" option did not help as it made many controls even more difficult to see!
    I have never had to use the Accessibility settings before - the design of iOS7 is a wonderful if unwelcome illustration of the Social Model of Disability in action!  Apple used to excel at accessible design.  The difference between iOS7 and all previous versions illustrates perfectly that bad design is disabling!

    No you can change your wallpaper to make the font stand out more on your homepages and folders or you can adjustr the font size, bold and contrast here:
    Settings > General > Accessibility
    NOTE: Turning Bold text on will force your phone to reboot.

    It is a fair question and Apple have obviously used some original photography for the new product shots. Wait and see if they are included in Mac OS X 10.8.3..

    After you create a new partition, always verify it:
    # fdisk -l /path/to/diskOnce that confirms the new partition, you must tell the kernel to re-read the partition table. Several ways to do this, depending on what your storage connection is. This often works:
    # partprobe /path/to/mydiskThen check if the kernel sees the partition:
    # grep /proc/partitions mydiskIf it does, you are done.

  • Why can't I see the new ios5 feature to set up an airport base station?

    Set up your Wi-Fi network with your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or Mac.
    With the setup assistant built into iOS 5 and OS X Lion, you’re just a few taps or clicks away from setting up a new wireless network or extending your current one. All you need to do is plug in your Time Capsule and connect it to your DSL or cable modem. Then simply select your Time Capsule in Wi-Fi settings in iOS 5, or from the Wi-Fi menu in OS X Lion, and follow the instructions. The setup assistant does the rest. In less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee, your network is up and running.
    Wi-Fi setup in iOS 5:
    In Wi-Fi Settings, tap your Time Capsule to create a new network.
    Select Create a New Network, give it a password, and tap Next.
    Now you’re connected to your new network. Tap Done and you’re up and running.
    This is what can be done but in my Wi-Fi settings I am not seeing the Time capsule
    Please help!

    Well what about the feature in ios5?
    If you look at the following link
    http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/wireless.html
    The second section shows what I am wanting.

  • When renaming an address book through properties, I can no longer see the new address book in my list. Where did it go?

    I have about 30 different address books. Some of them where old but i didn't want to delete them. I no longer wanted them at the top of my list so I went to properties and added "z-" to the folder name to have them at the bottom of the list. Now I can't see the address books that I renamed. What happened to them and how do I get them back?

    Make hidden files and folders visible:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
    '''First locate all address book filenames in thunderbird.'''
    * In Thunderbird:
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * click on 'show folder' button
    a new window opens.
    If you were going to alter anything you would need to close Thunderbird, but on this occasion you are just looking for information.
    * organise the list by 'Type'
    * look for all files that have MAB File type
    each file will have a .mab extension and these are the address books.
    Two address books are default address books called:
    abook.mab = Personal Address Book
    history.mab = Collected Addresses.
    Other addressbooks maybe called eg: abook-1.mab
    * Make a list of all the address book.mab filenames. Careful.. as spelling is important.
    '''Now to check what filename = what desciption in config editor'''
    * In thunderbird:
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > General tab
    * click on 'config Editor' button
    it will tell you to be careful :)
    now to locate info for each address book.
    '''How to search for each address book using info gained from checking the Profile folder.'''
    In top search type: abook.mab
    you should see this line:
    ldap_2.servers.pab.filename; abook.mab
    notice the 'pab' in ldap_2.servers.'''pab'''.filename
    In top search type: pab
    you will now be able to locate:
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.description; Value = Personal Address Book
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.dirType; Value = 2
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.filename; Value = abook.mab
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.position; Value = 2
    Using the above method will identify which .mab file in profile uses what info in config Editor.
    '''You can do this same method to check to see if the 'Z addressbook name' is in the list and which .mab file is assigned to that description.'''
    In top search type the name you assigned: Z addressbook name
    it should return a line:
    * ldap_2.servers.XXXX.description; Value = Z addressbook name
    make a note of the XXXX part in description
    In top search type: XXXX - whatever the actual description XXXX said to get the 'description', 'dirType', 'filename' and 'position'
    '''Please report back on results.'''
    Did you locate:
    eg: ldap_2.servers.XXXX.description; Value = Z addressbook name
    or was this still listed as old name without the Z part?
    Did you locate all of these 'description', 'dirType', 'filename' and 'position' for each of the missing address books?
    or were only some of these shown? Tell us what you found.
    Did you find that there were .mab files in Profile folder but they were missing in Config Editor or in Config Editor but not in Profile folder?
    Please state what was found. You can copy paste from the config editor.

  • G4 doesn't see the new hard drive I just installed

    I figure I've probably done something elementary stupid... hope someone will straighten me out.
    Following recommendations from the forum from about a year ago, I finally bought a Seagate 7200 120gb SATA drive, SeriTek/IS2 Host Card, and "Y" splitter cable.
    I put it all together as seemed to make sense -- Using the "Y" cable to connect the drive to power (4-pin connector marked P2) (this leave one power connection left over on the "Y" cable), SeriTek Card in PCI slot, and SATA cable connecting the Card to the new drive.
    System Profile and Disk Utility do not see either the Card or the Drive. I tried the SeriTek Card in a different PCI slot and re-checked all the connections -- still no hard drive. The new hard drive is getting power, as I can hear it spinning up.
    Did I connect things right? Or do I have two dead PCI slots? Is there some other thing I need to do to get my system to recognize the SeriTek card and Hard Drive.)
    Help much appreciated! I'm a tech newbie...
    Dual 500 G4 Ethernet 20gb HD 756mb RAM Radeon 8500

    I ran permissions repair -- which returned an error -- disk utility lost connection with disk manager utility or somesuch. Disk repair didn't fix that. So now I have a new problem.
    I talked to tech support at FirmTek and they think it's slimly possible that I zapped the card with static as I took it out of the wrap, or otherwise managed to damage it. They've asked me to test it in a different machine (if I can find a friend who has one that is similarly set up.) If the problem is with the card, they assure me they'll replace it, no problem. Or, I might have two bad PCI slots -- either possibility is unlikely -- but these seem to be the remaining explanations.
    Thanks for your assistance and wish me luck!
