Seeing the password of the network I joined

Is it possible to see the password I entered months ago for a network I joined on a wireless connection? I'm at my father-in-law's and trying to now get my wife logged on with her new computer, as she has just bought one. When I go into network preferences I see the network but the password is just a bunch of black dots and the option to 'show characters' is not available. When I click on the password all the dots disappear. Is there anyway to see these characters? I entered it so long ago I can't remember what it was, and my father-in-law isn't back until next week. Anyway, it seems to me that you should be able to see the password you entered from before no? Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
Open 'Keychain Access', search for the network name, open up the keychain item and if prompted, enter your admin password to see the saved password.
Hope that helps.

The power went out and when it returned the network name and password was lost.  I can see the network in my connections and connect to it.  How do I get it back to the orginal name and password? I have an HP laptop.

Chances are, there was a signficant power surge or voltage fluctuation just before the power went out. This type of thing can cause the AirPort Extreme to reset back to default settings.
If this occurs, your only option is re-configure the device again, just as you did originally.
In order to improve your chances this next time this happens, (especially if you live in an area where thunderstorms are severe), a good quality surge suppressor / voltage limiting power strip will really help, and may save you the entire device or a nearby computer next time something like this occurs.

  • Can see and recognize my wireless network and Internet is working, but I can't connect with ANY computers/iPad/iPod/air TV, etc. I have reset the time machine several times, and can see the network, but cannot access it with any device. PLEASE HELP!

I have Comcast Internet and have it connected to a Motorla Surfboard modem and have that running directly to a 2TB Time Capsule. The TC is serving as our time machine as well as our wireless router. We lost power in a storm a week ago and can no longer connect to my wireless network I can see the network and sign into it via password, but cannot connect with any device(iMac, MacBook, iPhones, iPod touches, air tv, etc.). ALL of these devices worked gat before the power went out. I reset both modem and TC and still can't connect. I can connect to the Internet through Ethernet cord directly from the modems dn have confirmation(per Comcast service) that the Internet is working and we have a good connection.
The TC is less than six months old so I'm not sure what is wrong. I have reset settings with TC to no avail. I have reset the TC SEVERAL times and have no idea what could be wrong and what is prohibiting me from connecting. Anyone that has ANY suggestions or ideas as to how to fix this, PLEASE HELP!!!  I'm going crazy using iPad 3G and not being able to connect to our wifi. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING BACK TO THE 21ST CENTURY!

Anyone have any ideas or information to help with this?  Any help and consideration is MUCH appreciated.

Since you have a modem/router, you must continue to use the Beetel modem/router on your network.
The Time Capsule can connect to the Beetel modem/router using a wired Ethernet cable connection and produce a separate wireless network.  You would NOT want the Beetel router and Time Capsule to both try to produce the same wireless network if they are located close together, since this will likely create interference problems that may prevent devices from connecting to either the Beetel orTime Capsule wireless network.
The exception to having the Beetel modem/router and Time Capsule produce the same wireless network would be if you can locate the Time Capsule at least a room or two away from the Beetel modem/router.  An Ethernet cable can be run up to 300+ feet or about 100 meters with no signal loss, so you should be able to locate the Time Capsule anywhere you want.
Are you able to consider this option?
Another option.....if you cannot locate the Time Capsule in another room......would be to configure the Time Capsule to use the same wireless network name and password as the Beetel network and turn off the wireless on Bettel modem/router.
Important.....there is no guarantee that the printer will be able to connect to the Time Capsule wireless network, so you should expect to start over and set up the printer again.
Yet another option would be to turn off the wireless service on the Time Capsule and use the Beetel wireless to back up your computers to the Time Capsule, which will act as a wired hard drive for the network. If you select this option, the Time Capsule can be located close to the Beetel modem/router.

  • Why am I seeing the Network icon

I have never connected to a network but now I am seeing the network icon when I do a "save as". I also see this in my startup disk now which was never there in the past. Why would this be?
This is very strange - makes me think someone has compromised my computer.

  • My apple extreme wireless network is working fine with the macs but ios devices (iPhone & iPad) will not connect. I can see the network though. Everything was working until the ISP went down. Any suggestions?

My apple extreme wireless network is working fine with two Macs but ios devices (iPhone & iPad) will not connect. I can see the network and it's telling me I'm connected but Safari says I'm not connected to the internet. Everything was working until the ISP went down. Any suggestions?

Thank you, I've tried the support tips (resetting the network, checking security settings, etc.) and rebooting the network devices several times to no avail. I've actually been working on this for several days (when I can afford to have the network down).
What I have to determine is what has changed in the setup...from when it WAS working just fine with all devices.

  • I have not been able to get the built-in iPhone 4S keyboard dictation to work. I talk into it, then tap "Done", then the phone "thinks" for a few seconds (the purple dots pulse and I see the network icon on the top bar spinning) and then nothing happens.

    Siri is wroking fine

I am experiencing exactly the same problem, today, and a reset, of all settings, did nothing to correct it.  Any suggestions would be welcome.  While dictation in all apps is out, Siri is working fine also.

    Hi 2k,
maybe it's a problem with the association between access point and your wireless card.
    from the output of iwconfig the security mode is open, try to change it in restricted;
    modify /etc/conf.d/wireless in this way:
wlan_ra0="ra0 essid BTHomeHub-F288 key restricted xxxxxxxxxx"

  • Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Plz advise.

Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Please advise.

If you have not already done so, I suggest that you temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express that goes to the Tivo box.
Instead, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the Express. See if you can get an Internet connection on the laptop.
If you still cannot get an Internet connection on the laptop, try another Ethernet cable that you know is working correctly.
    Post back on your results.

  • PC not seeing the network and not being seen on the network

I set up a WRT54G to use as my network router. I have two pc's hooked up to it via wire, as the software used for the company requires this. 1 is my server, and there are no problems. I can connect to the Internet fine. The number 2 pc can connect to the Internet fine, but it can not see the network. Number 1 pc can not see the number 2 pc on the network. HELP!!! The work groups are the same, and I followed all the instructions hooking up. My laptop even hooks up to the wireless Internet. What do any of you think? Thanks

Check firewalls, and any virus suite that you may be using. Make sure that under trusted IPs you have check trust my network. You should be able to find that under personal firewall tabs in the virus suite.

  • Airport cant see the network its created

Did the update today...unsure that has anything to do with it, as the problem hapopened before.  Anyway, I've reset a few times - to factory and hot reboot.  Nothing!!!!!!
    Help -

If you reset the AirPort to factory defaults, then you'll need to search for a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxxx to be able to "see" the AirPort Extreme.
There's no security on this network, so no password is required.
You will need to log on to this network first if you want to configure the AirPort device using wireless, then open AirPort Utility to reconfigure the AirPort device.
You can also temporarily connect a spare Ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Airport Extreme if you want to configure it using a wired connection.
Once the device is re-configured, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable.

  • Does anyone know how to connect to wireless internet using a Hitron CVE-30360 cable modem. My Macbook doesn't even see the network?

I just received my cable modem from Hitron and I am unable to connect to it. My phone and other computers and see it as a wireless network but my Macbook doesn't even show it a network that I can connect to. It is totally invisible to my Macbook. Can anyone help with this?

Assuming "BellSouth" uses the same procedure as "SBCGlobal", which are now both ATT/Yahoo, as far as I know:
Take router from box. Connect to power outlet and phone outlet.
Take Ethernet cable, plug one end into the router's jack marked LAN, plug other end into your computer's Ethernet jack.
Point your Web browser to 192.168.1.1 (enter this into your browser's address bar, actual address might vary, check your router's documentation.)
A Web form will appear. Set router to PPPoE, if necessary. Enter the user name your ISP gave you. Enter the password.
Watch all the lights on your router go green.
Or, if the router is already set up, since you used it with your Dell laptop previously:
Take Ethernet cable, plug one end into the router's jack marked LAN, plug other end into your computer's Ethernet jack. Done.
The second from the left is your Ethernet jack:

  • My mac can see the network but won't connect to the server

I have an intel Imac.  The network connect is working but very squirrelly.  I see most objects on the network.  I can see the server but it will not let me connect.
I go to another mac and I can connect to the server.  So I think its my mac   10.7.5 is the OS

Probably nothign to do with your iMac or OS X, have you attempted resetting your router? Also you haven't stated what messages you are getting or any other information. If this is at your work then I'd suggest contacting your IT support person, the connection to your network may be on their end.

  • Can see the network but not the basestation

I've seen lots of problems for configuring an older (Dual Ethernet) base stations, however I've not seen a problem quite like mine. both of my laptops can see and connect to the network, however the connection doesn't get past that point. This has happened before, however the new part is that neither of my laptops can find the base station via the airport admin utility. I have a MBP running leopard and a TiBook running 10.4.10 and they both have the same problem.
I've tried using the configure other option and enter the IP address for the router but I always get an error code. I've tried connecting via either of the 2 ethernet ports as well and neither of my computers will acknowledge that the base station is there. I've checked the original documentation and the lights are behaving as though nothing is wrong other than no network activity.
I'm loosing my patience and I'm about the throw the thing out a window

I have a similar problem with my TiBook G4 10.3.9 and my Airport Snow. The laptop does not see the base station and tells me I have no network selected. The TiBook sees other networks and lists them in Internet Connect, but my account is missing. The base unit seems to be functioning properly, flashing all the requisite lights.
I've tried using the Airport Setup Utility and the Airport Admin Utility to reconnect but neither sees the base unit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
