Seeing the time capsule on my pc network

When I first installed my time capsule, I was able to see the hard drive from both my Mac Air and my HP laptop.  For some reason, now, I can connect to the internet on my PC, but I can't see the hard drive on the time capsule as part of my network.  How can I store data to the time capsule from my PC?

Make sure you laptop is in the correct network area.. ie home.. not work or public.. Windows can spontaneously change.. because it is a full moon and the wind is westerly.
Open command window and ping the TC by name and IP address. Does it respond.. you cannot access it if it doesn't.
In windows explorer type the TC name or IP address..
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress (if you don't use SMB names in your TC. ie short with no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. don't expect windows to work. )
Do you have bonjour for windows installed or better still the airport utility for windows? That helps heaps.
Finally if none of the above works .. use ethernet and turn off all firewalls.

  • Intermittently can't see the time capsule

Greetings! For the past little while, my Macbook Air is intermittently losing the Time Capsule under "shared" in my computer. We have another Macbook Air, and a couple PC's in the house and they never drop the Time Capsule. We have named the Time Capsule, and so when you look under "shared" in the working Macbook, you'll see the Time Capsule as we have named it, then when you click on it, you'll see the Time Capsule which you can click on the see the files. On my Macbook, the named Time Capsule is usually there, but now and then, it just won't show. A restart doesn't seem to be a reliable fix. It's a strange problem. Does anyone have any ideas why this could be happening? Thanks very much!

First of all the TC has to be connected in bridge usually or at least so the computers are behind it's NAT if in router mode.. does the PC get the same IP range as the TC?
Then ping the TC to make sure it is not blocked by firewalls.. if the PC is set to homegroup for instance then you may have issues. And networking is set on the PC to home.
I presume you have access to the TC setup via a Mac..
    1. The default TC name is usually not compliant with SMB network names.. nor is wireless name.. so reduce all names to short, no spaces no special characters.. passwords can be longer but still no spaces no special characters.
    2. You haven't said if access is wireless or wired but guessing wired and you want disk access, go to the disk page sharing in the TC and set WORKGROUP.. to same name as PC. Also it is usually easier to turn on the guest account to have read write access. In your work situation maybe.. maybe not.. anyway that depends on how it will be used. You can also change the security to user passwords but that will stop all existing access to files.

  • Help - My PC cant see my Time Capsule as a wireless network

    hi
I have a Time Capsule (not connected to internet as yet but it is on) sitting next to my PC. My imac can see the Time Capsule but my PC cant!
Im running Windows XP. Do i need to install any software?
I do not want to hard wire my pc to it as i have to move the TC to another room. Does anyone know why my pc cannot find my TC? My PC's wireless internet is working as i am picking up other networks...
    thanks.

Not too sure if I can help you with this because I am trying to do it myself but...
When I purchased my TC I asked the assistant in the Apple store if I could do this they said yes and proceeded to show me. Along the line I got a bit confused and didn't want to ask them to go over the whole thing again.
But they wrote on a business card "NTFS" partition??? I have emailed them to see if they will elaborate on this and I am waiting for an answer. But maybe you can take something for this?
If I get any more info I will post it

  • Connecting the time capsule to a wireless network (university)

I just purchased my first mac computer, and the time capsule. I am a university student, and my housing has wireless network, so i would need to configure it to that network (which requires registration). When I first opened everything up, I could see the time capsule in the airport utility, but now I cannot. I dont really know where to go from here, because all of the manuals go from being able to detect the time capsule. On top of that how do I connect the wireless to the registration required network? Any help is much appreciated.

how can I use the time capsule as a "wifi acceptor" to connect with my wireless network, and then boardcasting wifi signal to my devices?
    Unfortunately, this is not possible.
In order to broadcast a wireless network with Internet access, the Time Capsule must be provided with a wired Ethernet connection at its WAN "O" port.
Check wtih your Internet Service Provider to see if they have an adapter or other device that will provide a wired Ethernet connection to the Time Capsule.

  • Since I upgraded to Mavericks, Time Machine no longer finds the Time Capsule Disk on my network

    Hi,
Since I upgraded to Mavericks, Time Machine no longer finds the Time Capsule Disk on my network.
Five minutes before upgrading it however performed successfully a last backup.
I found several posts on this forum and proposed solutions:
    - restarted both the mac and capsule
    - deleted the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist (twice rebooting in between)
    Still have the issue.

What brand of drive is it?

Are you using a new 802.11ac Time Capsule - the "tall" one - and are you still using Mac OS X 10.6.8?
You need OS X 10.7.5 "Lion" or later, or an iOS device, to configure an 802.11ac Time Capsule:

  • My AirPort Utility CAN see the time capsule...

But for some reason I can't access it. I don't see the Z drive in "My Computer". I'm on Windows Vista, and I used to be able to see it, but I can't anymore! The time capsule was unplugged for a while, otherwise I am not sure what happened. Even when I plug my computer into the time capsule directly, it doesn't "see" it as a drive. Help please!! Thank you!

Open a command prompt and ping the TC.
Use windows explorer and type the IPof the TC directly into the address bar.
    \\TCIPaddress
The actual IP of course.. not the words above. .ie \\10.0.1.1
If that fails then the issue is vista has moved to work or public.. move it back to home area.. and turn off the firewall.

  • Is there a way you can see the Time Capsule in OS 9?

I am setting up a time capsule for a client for his PC/Mac Business, he has 2 Windows based PCs that run XP, one intel iMac running Tiger, and one Dual 1.25GHz G4 running an OS9 app that he needs for his business.
Is there a way you can get the time capsule volume to mount inside of OS9???

There isn't even a way to connect to the IP from OS 9, and transfer files to it manually?

  • Can not see the Time Capsule disc in Time Machine what can I do??????

I just set up my new TC with my MacBook Air. The Wireless network is working fine but I can not find (see) the TC hard drive on my MacBook air so I can not set up Time Machine to back up my stuff. :=(
Can someone help me with this... ?

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.. amen!!
Welcome to ML excellent standard networking.. I am awarding it the golden vista OS of the year.
Did you turn it off and on again??
Will no longer be the first phrase of all windows servicing.. it now extends to Macs as well.
Maybe an auto electrical clock where you setup a timed daily reboot.. !!
A mechanical one of course.. cannot trust those electronical versions.. they might use OS as reliable as Vista!!

  • Can I add the time capsule to a bigpond network?

    Hi
I've just gotten a time capsule and I'm wondering if it can be added to a bigpond home network?
    Thanks

If the modem does not have ethernet.. then you have only one choice and that is join a wireless network.. it is not recommended as it will slow down file transfers .. in fact it can be worth thinking of running dual networks so you can use ethernet to the TC and wireless for internet.
But if you need to you have to.. join wireless network is a hidden option in v5 utility and will not come up at all in v6 but I think you can select it via the assisted setup.
Do you run any computer with windows or Lion or earlier version of Mac OS.. then just use v5 utility.. hold down option key when you choose the wireless mode in the airport utility manual setup.

  • When I open my Airport Utility I don't always see the airport come up, even though Timeport is backing up AND I can see the time capsule in Finder.

Version 5.5.2 (552.11).   Updates tells me this is the up to date version, however I keep seeing a window asking me to update to 5.5.3.  I try this and normally receive 'software is up to date'.  Today something downloaded but I cannot remember what.
Also, when opening up Airport Utility I don't always get to find the airport extreme.  Sometimes I do.   Every time I try I am also able to carry out a backup using timemachine  and can also see the drive on Finder.
    In addition,
I have a 1TB drive hooked up to the USB port.  I cannot see it in finder even though I seem to be able to see Time Machine Backups under 'Devices',
I cannot find a way to access the 1TB drive.  I have hooked it to a local USB on my Macbook Pro and it works fine.

Just bought my Time Capsule today and had the same issue, or actually I did see it at first then allowed some software updates but after I restarted my computer, Airport Utility no longer recognized it. Solution: I had to reset my TC to factory settings by pushing the end of a pin into the Reset button (tiny hole in the back of your TC) and holding a few seconds until the amber light starts flashing rapidly. After that try the Airport Utility again and this worked for me. Good luck!

  • My mac doesn't see the Time capsule

Just bought TC. Setup was easy, backup made during overnight. Now The TC has disappeared from my MacBook. The Airport is ok, but it doesn't seem to see my backup device in the TC...??

I've been having a similar problem. I purchased a refurbished TC recenty. I have a MacBook Pro and a Sangean Internet Radio that normally connect to the TC. The TC is a 2 TB ver 7.5.2. I have intermitent problems with the wireless connection where the devces will loose the connection. When the devices loose the connection I usually have to restart the TC using a hard wired connection. The time to failure varies. It doesn't seem to matter if the network is open or closed. I have also tried using the 5Ghz setting.
Any ideas? Or should I cantact Apple about replacement?

  • How I Got Time Machine to See the Time Capsule

I had a Time Capsule set up as a secondary router with my Verizon FIOS router. This was working okay, but when I upgraded my OS to Leopard and tried to set up Time Machine, the software wouldn't find the TC as a backup location. When it asked where to put the backup, the list was always blank.
I could click on "set up time capsule" but the software always said there were no Apple devices detected no matter how much I refreshed the list.
I disabled my AirPort and connected my MacBook to the TC with an Ethernet cable. Then it was able to detect the TC and do a backup (and Ethernet is way faster than wireless).
I'm not sure if this will work for routine backups after I disconnect the cable, but at least I got this much to work!

    Hello [email protected],
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your external hard drive.  I found an article with steps you can take when an external device is not being recognized.
I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Top troubleshooting tips" in the following article:

  • My PC (Windows) can't see my Time Capsule wireless Network

I just installed a wireless network with a Time Capsule and it's working fine for the three Macs and the printer in the household.  However, I still need to have access to the wireless network for one PC running Windows.  Problem is the PC doesn't "see" the Time Capsule Network.  What am I missing and how can I set up the PC on the wireless network?

Try downloading AirPort Utility for Windows here:

  • Has the firmware upgrade on the time capsule been fixed to allow iphones on the wireless network?  I reloaded the previous firmware edition and it fixed the problem.  thx

I checked beofre on the support communities when I was having trouble with the iphone 4 not being able to connect to the time capsule wireless after upgradeing the firmware.  When I reloaded the previous firmware version, the iphone wireless problem was gone.  Now the time capsule is asking to upgrade to that same newer version of firmware.
I don't want to do it until the iphone 4 wireless connection problems have been addressed.  thanks

......will other users on the primary network (not the private wifi one) be able to access my files on my TCapsule?
No, if you have not provided them with the Time Capsule device password.
Users will be able to "see" the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading in the Finder on their Macs, but they will not be able to access the drive or the files.
I had also been thinking about wirelessly extending the wifi network (a linksys N router) but I guess that will allow everyone to access my Time Capsule?
    Same answer as above.
