Seeing the unseeable in ACR

I work mainly in Bridge and Camera Raw, and sometimes finish images with a bit of retouching in Photoshop. Mainly, I'm either looking at Bridge's Essentials workspace and its full-screen preview, or Camera Raw.
I usually work in either ProPhoto or Adobe RGB, depending on the task in hand. I've got a moderate grasp on the joys of colour management, but I'm a bit confused with the way it's displayed in Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw. I have a calibrated/profiled HP 'wide-gamut' LCD monitor.
I have been working with a raw image of red tulips. Its reds and greens are pretty rich and it doesn't translate well to sRGB at all. It fairs better with Adobe RGB, but still falls short of the full image gamut. The Bridge full-screen preview looks pretty similar to the sRGB version. In fact, no matter which working colourspace you choose, the full-screen previews of the resulting JPEGs all look the same, so I'm guessing Bridge renders all previews in the sRGB colour space. Is this right?
The thing I really can't get my head around is the Camera Raw preview of the tulips in ProPhoto RGB mode. It's almost as if I'm seeing the full gamut. But I can't be seeing the full thing on my HP monitor, which is supposedly similar to the AdobeRGB gamut. How is Camera Raw displaying out-of-monitor-gamut colour in the ProPhoto RGB preview?

Many thanks, Jeff. I often have trouble getting my head around things like this, especially when I'm dealing with colours I'm not supposed to see!
I suspect that the deep reds in the tulip are actually outside AdobeRGB but within my monitor's gamut. I think I assume that one colour space would always fit inside another, but they probably often overlap.
I assume that the ACR histogram represents the working colour space, as it changes shape depending on the current choice. But, if the preview is an RC rendering to the monitor profile (which is bound to be a smaller gamut), I'd expect visual clipping to occur before histogram clipping.
I'm just thinking out loud here because there's already too much noise inside my head I'm a hoot at parties. Feel free to correct me, if I'm lost in the woods again.

What edition of LR 5? What edition of ACR does PSCS 6 contain. If they are not parallel (same edition number x in [5 or 8].x ), is LR making a tiff or psd rendition of the image?

I see that I am using ACR v8.1.0.43... unless you, Jeff, have some better version of ACR than mere mortals... I click mouse' right button in ACR histogram area and I don't see anything like people describe for LR5... no option to select LAB readouts... are you saying that Lab readouts are in place for ACR ?

CS4 Bridge can't see CS3 Photoshop's ACR

Hi all, I have been using CS3 PS + ACR happily for the last year. Yesterday I downloaded the CS4 trial packs for Dreamweaver, Flash, etc, and installed them, along with CS4 Bridge.
CS4 Bridge will send an image to CS3 PS but when I select "Open in Camera Raw" it tells me I have to "launch a qualifying product at least once to include this feature".
Que pasa?
Fortunately, CS3 Bridge is still available, and still has all its cups in the cupboard; but it's rather inconvenient running both.

I really think you'll get in a mess with versions mixed up like that!
There are major changes to Bridge and ACR and I really advise you not to get yourself and the computer in a muddle.

I don't see the new features of CC within the Camera RAW dialog

Using Adobe Creative Cloud, I Updated Bridge Cc and Photoshop CC. Now when I access Camera Raw, Camera appears as 8.0 without the new features in the Cc version.

Updating Bridge and Photoshop isn't also updating ACR. You should be seeing the ACR 8.4 update in your CC app. If not, you can download the actual installer for Photoshop CC (not CS6 mind you):

This problem has appeared in a few other threads. It's caused by installing Release 2 Raptor over Release 1 Raptor without first deinstalling Release 1 Raptor . So what you need to do is:
1) Back up any important Raptor files, e.g. connections etc.
2) Remove the existing Raptor Rel 1 installation folder
3) Install Raptor Rel 2

How can I restore an iPhoto library from Time Machine (ML) - when I TM doesn't see the backup??

I recently did a Time Machine backup of my MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion) onto an external HDD. Around the time of the last backup, my system was behaving funny so I decided to rebuild the OS X.
Because the last TM backup was of a system that as mentioned, was somewhat 'unstable', and I only had a few backups available (didn't have TM running too long beforehand) - I decided not to use TM to 'restore' my system. I just did a clean install of ML and planned on pulling files over manually. I'd done this before and it worked a treat.
This time ran into a snag. The backup disk TM used was an external HDD which I wanted to upgrade (suffice to say it works fine). So, I needed to move the backup.backupdb directory to my other HDD. The copy seemed to work fine ... so far so good.
I installed the new ML OS on my MacBook Pro and that was fine too. I was able to pull most of my files over by going into the TM backup and copying what I needed.
BUT, for some reason, this didn't work for the iPhoto library?
Alas, I found that you need to do a 'restore' iPhoto library file from whithin TM. So I fired up TM and noticed that it didn't recognise the old backup file located on the HDD. I.e. when I turned on TM, pointed it to the external HDD (where I copied the previous backup to), it started a fresh backup.
So ... my question is - "How do I restore the iPhoto library if I can't get to it from TM?"

I've found a solution to my problem.
Time Machine locates extenal HDD backups differently depending if they were done via a network or via a USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt connection.
My initial backup was done via a direct Thunderbolt connection. I ran into the above issue b/c the second time when I tried looking for the backup file the HDD was conencted to my iMac and I was accessing it via a network conenction.
I simply connected the drive directly to my MacBook pro and ... voila. I was able to see the backup, select the iPhoto library and begin the restore.

You should be able to see two different tabs when setting up the email if you go to Other > Add Mail Account. Once you enter in the email address and password, you should be at the next screen to provide more details about the email as far as incoming and outgoing servers and at the top there will be a blue section to add it in as a POP or IMAP email account. Check out the article below for further troubleshooting and emails setup options.

We were able to call using "most recent call" in Facetime, but now I can't go and control that new iMac remotely to help with some email concerns the user is having. I'm trying to not personalize this too much, but it's grandkids talking to Grandma and Mom and Dad trying to solve new machine hiccups. Normally, I could just go in via iChat and control the other machine and troubleshoot, but I can't do it with Facetime only. My buddy list doesn't see the other computer even though we are connected on Facetime right now. My name is not highlighted for the other computer. What could have gone so wrong?

With the iPad connected to the computer, while iTunes is running, click on the iPad name on the left side under devices. Click on the Movies tab and look for Movie Rentals. You want to "Move" the films to the iPad.

MacBook Pro can no longer see the hard drive

I've got a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, 15-inch.
Okay, so I was chasing the nazis out of North Africa in Call of Duty 2 when the game froze. Command-Option-Escape was unresponsive, so I held down the power button to shut the whole thing down. When I brought it back up, I got the flashing folder icon.
After yelling a few words I shan't repeat here, I booted off the installation DVD, then started up Disk Utility to try to repair the disk. However, Disk Utility only sees the DVD; it doesn't see the hard drive at all. Neither does Startup Disk or System Profiler. (The hard drive would be under the ATA section in System Profiler's menu, right? It only shows the DVD drive.) If I try to go ahead with the OS X installation, at the "Select a Destination" screen, where the list of disks should be is disturbingly blank. So according to every method I've tried so far, it's as if my hard drive has been entirely disconnected.
This was my Christmas present, and I was hoping to get at least two years out of it, not two weeks. Anyone have any idea how to get this beautiful machine back on its feet again? I'm familiar with Unix and not afraid of using the command line, but I'm not sure what to try there.

Go Flex TV media player can no longer see the external drive on my airport

Hi there I have an external hard drive hooked up via usb to my airport extreme. I recently purchased a goflex seagate media center for my tv. At first the seagate recognized my external drive with no problem. Streaming files from the hard drive with no problem. Now the media center cannot see or log onto the drive it. It still connects to internet via my airport, I can stream you tube however it cannot see the external drive. I can access the external drive with my mac book via the airport extreme with no problem. I'm at a total loss any suggestions would be helpful.

Before the latest iTunes update, I was able to see my account balance (a whopping $9.98), but can no longer see the amount. I've tried logging out and back into iTunes to no avail. Same goes on my iPhone and iPod, and iPad. The system keeps asking for credit card info, but I'm hesitant to do that. (That's why we purchase iTunes gift cards, isn't it ?) !
