Seeing what songs are in what playlists

Although there are a few dicussions about this, I can't seem to understand the solution to it. So the question is, is it possible to see what songs are in what playlists and whether there are any songs not in a playlist, so I can organise them into one?
Thanks.

You want something like this, where the Not in All Playlists smart playlist is not inside the All Playlists folder, but everything else that you want included is.

  • Can I see what Playlist my song is in by holding Option

I just read in Mac Life mag that using Address Book I can hold the option key and see what groups a contact is in - they are highlighted in Yellow. Cool, so how can I see what Playlist my Song is in using iTunes? I bet this would be a fantastic feature and one millions of people would welcome. What do you say - is there a way? A secret way?

    Hi John,
Control click the track/Show in Playlist. Might be able to right click also depending on your mouse.

  • Why is it that when I connect my iPod to my car stereo through USB, some of the songs don't appear and play when these songs are on my playlist normally?

    Hello all
This has been bugging me for a little while. I bought myself a new bluray player awhile back and it has a USB hookup for ipods. This goes the same with my vehicle too. I have a few good playlists with some great songs, however, when i hooked it up to my bluray player, some of the songs didn't appear in the playlist that are not normally there. I disconnected the ipod and had a look on the screen and sure enough the songs are there, but they are just not appearing on the bluray player. This only happens for some songs, not all of them. I was disappointed at this because I really wanted to hear my songs. So I decided to download the WHOLE album off of itunes from which I got the song from and sure enough, this time the song appeared on my bluray player and it played in the playlist.
Why is this? Is there a way to make it so that I can have all the songs play without downloading all of the albums?

Did the original songs that do not appear on the car player play in the Music app on the iPod? Sometimes glitches happen and they do not. Also, If y ohave a 5G iPod/iOS 7, purchase songs  will show with an cloud icon by them if they are not downloaded if Shall All is turned on in Settings>iTunes and App Store

  • My songs are on the playlist in my itunes folder but wont sync manually 2 ipod

I have almost 200 songs in one of my folders in itunes.  It won't auto sync to my ipod, and when I manually try to  sync, it just transfers 1 song.  Why?

More info.  On the ipod touch I browsed by album.  I see all albums have an artist name under them except this one album.  That's why it's not showing when I search by artist.
But, if I do a search by artist, it shows up.  But if I browse to this artist, it's not there.  The song is in the playlist as it should be, but not for the artist.  In itunes, this song/album show correctly as far as I can tell.

  • AAC: Can I see which songs are in that format?

    Hi
Itunes seems to have converted a lot of my library to AAC, so I can't burn playlists on MP3 disk.
Can I interrogate itunes to show me a list of songs that are in AAC format?
    Cheers

    Dreamsville,
If you are going to use the songs for an MP3 disc, you must convert them to MP3 first.  After you find your AAC files using King Penguin's procedure, you can easily create MP3 versions using this guide: iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format.
Note that the conversion process leaves you with 2 versions, the AAC and the MP3.  Make sure you are using the MP3 in the playlist you are going to burn.

  • My songs are disappearing from playlists

Hello All, I have a razr maxx with jb. used to use moto music, and really only started using google play music recently..There is also another post from a razr user with the same problem as well, and heres mine in the maxx forum. I also saw a s3 user with the problem too.
I had a playlist of songs that i had purchased on itunes and 1 song purchased from google play that I downloaded to my phone and added to the playlist later.  In the beginning google play read the playlist fine, but soon after, the playlist was empty with the exception of the one song from google play.  After this happened, I took the time to create a new playlist on my phone adding the same songs and again, a day or 2 later the playlist only had the one song from google play in it.
I can still see the original playlists in motocast, but thats my original playlist from itunes without the song from google play.. At first I'm thinking it may be google play music and motocast not playing nicely, but then that wouldn't explain the fact that when I created a new playlist on the phone and the same thing happened..
Any help would be much appreciated!

This is incredibly frustrating.  I've searched the web and cannot find a solution.

  • Is there a way for Itunes to scan your library to see which songs are missing the original files?  I'd like to mass delete songs to save space on my hard drive.

Other than just attempting to play the song I'm not sure of any way to do it.

I have only synced a device on a single occasion in my life.  Doesn't it say something about how many songs will transfer?
The laptop is supposed to be the master repository for everything on the iPod and they are designed to be in sync.
You can check the Dougscripts web site.  There's all kinds of goodies there but I don't know if the extend to something like this.  There's also third party software but again I don't know if it goes to that detail.  People usually use it when they are trying to rescue content for a non-backed-up computer.

  • Since installing iCloud I am in able to sync my iTunes library to my iPhone 4, songs are missing the playlist are incorrect and when I try and play music the cover are and songs do not match. HELP anyone one else have this problem?

Do I need to go to the Apple store to fix this?

The sort fields should generally be empty unless you've putting in custom values to sort solo artists by their surnames. You can apply common changes to thousands of tracks at once, just don't apply the wrong change because there is no undo.
It is a good idea to backup before undertaking large scale changes. See this backup tip for a suggested approach.

  • How do I easily find out what playlist my songs are in?

I'm an iTunes novice and have about 3000 songs on my computer. I've put most of them on playlists but compared some numbers and discovered that there are a couple hundred stragglers that I haven't put on playlists.
Is there a way to quickly/easily see what playlist my songs are in? It would be great to have a "view" option column showing playlists. I know I can right-click on each individual song and do "show in playlist," but that's a real pain in the neck when you're dealing with thousands of songs.
    I'm open to any suggestions!

    Welcome to AD!
All I can think of, is a smart playlist 'match all' where
    playlist is not playlist1
    playlist is not playlist2,
    etc
except.....you need to leave out the main playlist, Music, from that

  • Is It poss to see songs that are not in playlist ?

Is there a way of seeing which songs are not in a playlist so it is easier to sort the remaining songs,So I can put all songs in the libary into a playlist
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply but that is not quite what I ment proberly my fault for not explianing clear enough.
    I will try again
What I want to do is make sure every song in my library is in a playlist.
I can do this manually but means have flick between library and playlists thought there might be a trick on here to do it,without setting up smart playlists. The reason I want to do this is I use my I pod in the car and dont want to be searching for songs while driving. This is why I need to use playlists to make it easy.
    Thanks again

  • HT1351 When syncing music playlist from my itunes to ipod, I get a message saying some songs couldn't be found. Why is this - they are in my playlist.

When syncing music playlist from my itunes to ipod, I get a message advising some songs could not be found. Why is this, when the songs are in my playlist.

By design, the organizer (and any other database management systems) is there to prevent you from duplicating your media files. The catalog management allows you to have the same image in different categories or albums. Duplication in different folders is to be absolutely avoided.
The same image file can have multiple tags like 'family', 'vacations', 'birthdays' and be present in three different albums with the same names. On obvious advantage is less disk space. Another one with your present folder system is that if you edit one of your duplicates, the other ones are unchanged.
I don't see an easy way to make your present folder structure simplified for the organizer ...

  • How can I see tracks that are in playlists when viewing My Music?

I have hundreds of audio tracks in iTunes. My Music shows more files than I have in all my playlists. Is there a way I can view which tracks are in a playlist when viewing My Music without having to right click each one? It would take hours. All I want to know is which tracks I have yet to include in a playlist.
    Nothing showing in "Show Duplicates".
We really need a view option in My Music to see whether tracks are in a playlist or not.

You can make a smart playlist showing tracks that are not in any playlist.
You have to make a playist showing all the tracks that are in an existing playlist.
Then you make a second playlist showing all the tracks that are not in the first playlist.
You can make the first playlist with the rule:
Playlist is 'one of my playlsits'
repeated for every play list you have.
This is only feasible for a few playlists.
If you have a lot you can create a playlist folder: File>>New playlist folder.
Then you drag all your playlists into the folder.
Now you make a smart playlist with the rule:
Playlist is not 'the playlist folder'
This new playlist should have all tracks not already in a playlist.
After you have finished, you can get playlists out of the folder by dragging them to the left. It might not be a bad idea to make sure you understand how to do this before dragging everything into the folder.

  • Please help to remove songs weren't on playlist (and Itunes)!

    Hi all,
I'm so new to this forum and if this post was in a wrong place, please forgive me!
I recently added a lot of songs into my Ipod. But today, I found that those songs weren't on my playlists, so I add them again (I don't know why?). Unfortunately, the songs I added yesterday WERE IN MY IPOD but not in Itunes (even in My Ipod Icon in Itunes). So I have many duplicated songs in my Ipod but only one copy in Itunes. Now I want to remove those duplicated songs and ones that present in Ipod hard drive but not appear in Itunes. Please help me to do so.
(I don't have Itunes Library in my computer since it takes too much space. I found this problem when I use a software to detect duplicated files. Many other songs that I didn't add today but already in my Ipod, and I want to remove those also!)
This is my 2nd Ipod and I know how to update firmware, adding songs... Please help me to solve this problem since it took about 3GB of wasting space on my Ipod!
    Your helps are greatly appreciated!
Pardon my English. Have a great day all!

    Hi Chris,
Because you said: "The songs can be in any any/all/no playlists.
On the iPod menu go to Music -> Songs.", but in my Ipod, at the Menu, I just have Playlist and Setting displayed. After your previous post, I try to set more options in the main display and I can't see the "No playlist" display!
"You already said you had duplicates so go to that song. Sings are in alphabetical order."
Firstly, with Ipod's tiny screen, are you going to browse one by one to see which songs are duplicated in about more than 300 duplicated files?
Secondly, And if you found it that way, what can you do in the Ipod itself? Ipod doesn't allow you to delete songs directly from itself. And when you plug it in the computer, run Itunes, those songs are disappeared (I said it didn't show on the Itunes). How can you delete it?
Thirdly, Those songs are not displayed in Ipod and Itunes! I only can found some duplicated songs via another software which only search for duplicated songs. And for songs that I didn't add in the second time, there's no way that I can find it.
In this case, I think there's only one solution that having a software to check the intire Ipod's database to find if there's anysong that present in Ipod's hard drive but not in Itunes.
"iTunes doesn’t rename them when they are put in the iPod. When they are added to iTunes, the file name is the song name. It is stored under the album which is stored under the a artist.
It’s a very easy, basic and simple way to store them."
I don't agree with you about this. Mp3 is collected from many sources. Many of them only have "Track 1" or "track n" in the title, and "No artist" or whatever artist etc... When we add it into Ipod, we have to rename it or correct it the way we like.
And look at the picture below, will you still think that Itunes doesn't remane them when they are put in the Ipod?. In this images, you'll see a long list of folders that stored music in your Ipod. The problem is any song that recently added into Ipod can be stored in folder F00 through Fnn.

And in this picture, a list of my music added into Ipod. Do you have your music named as 1584, HGNC or something like that? No, I don't think so and I don't think anyone on this earth could name thier music files that way. So, it's clear that Itunes DOES rename those song in it's own way and it's not a good way to handle music!

  • How do I see the song list in a play list

How do I see a song list within a playlist. When I touch the icon for a playlist it just advances to the next song

It works OK for playlists you make including Genius lists, although this appears to be normal for the Genius Mix lists which are made in iTunes on the computer and tranfered over. Even iTunes on the computer will only allow you to view what is in these lists by using the "Up Next" feature. I would only assume the "Up Next" feature will eventually make it into the iOS Music apps, may be in iOS 6.

  • I have "Explicit" song tags in iTunes, but they (the tags, not the songs) are not showing up on my iPhone.

    Hi,
I recently found a way to add the "EXPLICIT" tag to songs in my iTunes Library (using Subler), and just presumed that the tags were not showing up in my iPhone Music because the phone simply did not have the function to display them.
However, after updating to iOS 7, and seeing every song I have ever purchased, I noticed that the iPhone can indeed show whether songs are explicit or not (by marking them with a letter 'E').
Therefore I am just wondering why I can see whether songs are explicit on my Mac, yet not on my iPhone. I have tried removing the songs from my iTunes Library, syncing to remove them from my phone, re-adding them to my Library, and then re-syncing to put them back onto my phone, and the explicit tag still does not show up.
Please can you help me resolve this.
    Thanks

If you are syncing your contacts from your PC with iCloud, they are not transferred to your phone using iTunes.  They are synced to your phone using iCloud, either over wifi or your cellular data network.
First go to icloud.com with your computer browser, sign into your account and open Contacts there to confirm that your contacts appear.  If they do, go to Settings>iCloud on your phone, sign into your account and turn Contact on.  Assuming your phone is either connected to wifi or your cellular data network, the contacts should then download from iCloud to your phone.

If you buy them as a Ringtone, then Itunes should automatically put them in Tones. It is a huge hassle and takes time most of us don't have to waste, when we purchased them as Tones and Apple told me they would automatically show up in Tones if purchased from Itunes Store. NOT!  And we shouldn't have to google to find the answer. They should make that clear on Itunes store.  Very disappoiinted in the Itunes upgrades that have caused so many problems.
