Seeking a longer power cord???  (G4-flatscreen IMAC)

Are longer power cords available rather than the standard 6-footers? If not, does anyone have a solution that would get me to at least 8 feet? Thanks.

Sure voltage drops off over long distance; but as all Macs have auto-switched power supplies capable of running with anything between 100 - 240 volts AC at 50-60Hz there really isn't an issue. I remember watching a colleague plug his Compaq laptop (rate for a 230VAC european supply) in to a 115 volt socket. It actually stuttered on DVD playback!
This won't be an issue. You can either use a domestic extension lead as JPT says or buy a longer 'cloverleaf' mains cable.

  • Longer Power Cord for new G5

Just received the new 20" G5 and was a little dismayed at how short the power cord is. I want to situate my mac in the center of a room and I can, of course, use a simple extension cord but I was wondering if anyone made a longer power cord that would be compatible with the "mickey mouse" input on the back of the mac. Does anyone know if such an item exists and if so, how to get one?

    Dale,
I believe the power cord is of standard length. It will be difficult to find a longer one. Perhaps you could build your own power strip for whatever furniture you want to place the iMac on. The power strip can have a long enough cord, and you would have something to plug other stuff in to.

PS - I find nothing 'Mickey Mouse" about the connector. It's too round

  • Longer power cord for airport extreme

I am needing a longer power cord cord for my new airport extreme base station Model ME918LL/A.  It's the cube one with the internal power supply.  It only comes with a six foot cord and I need at least 12 feet to place it in the optimal place in our office.  In suggestions where I can find a longer cord.  Amazon and tiger direct sale cords that look similar, but I want to be careful and fry it the device.  Has anyone else had a similar problem and where did you find a longer cord?

You  may have to reconsider the diameter of holes through which
the wire has to pass, or discover an alternative power source at
a nearer distance to the AirPort Extreme (with backup power &
perhaps a backup battery type of power unit w/ power filter.)
Part of the problem with distance and electrical signal over wire
is that a larger capacity wire is needed due to loss over distance.
The greater the distance, and the larger the gauge is needed.
A lower-than-specification power at the unit likely would result
    from too-long a power lead.
My AirPort units (Extreme and Express, in use) are protected by
a battery-backup APC or other automatic device that switches to
its own battery and takes the unit offline when power it too high
or when it is too low. And not one of the cheaper backup units.
So the issue isn't just a long cord, but one of significant better
quality than just a long cord of the same external diameter case
or layer of insulation over whatever gauge lies beneath.
That's a reason why the wire isn't longer; it'd also have to be larger
in wire gauge capacity and heavier. Then other costs would add up.
You may be able to ask a professional appliance company who could
look over the AirPort Extreme power cord and match the small end
where the unit plugs in, with one of a higher gauge wire (larger wire
so that's a smaller number wire for larger size/gauge; for the distance.
However you do it, have fun...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I'm using an eMac power cord on an iMac G5 and the screen is a blue tinted color. No true colors are displayed.

I just realized I was using an eMac powercord on my G5 iMac.
Make a difference at all? Does it screw up my computer?
I have a weird screen problem anything to do with this?

I can't see how that would make a difference.  But use the proper power cord for the iMac, if you have it.
To see if this is software or settings related, if you have a way to boot from a different system, such as a Mac OS X installation disk, start up from that other system and see if you still have the "blue tinted color."
If the problem recurs, you should do these two procedures to Reset PRAM and Reset SMU, to see if there is any improvement
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1767
When you do the Reset SMU procedure, if you have been connecting the power cord to an old or over-crowded power strip (surge suppressor), try connecting it to a wall outlet by itself, to see if that makes any difference.
If that does not help, there may be a hardware-related problem.

  • Anyone know where I can buy the power cord for intel imac

i lost the power wire to my imac and i don't know  where to buy it
anyone know where can I get it  and how much it costs?

Newer iMacs use ordinary computer power cords commonly used on all sorts of electronic equipment.
The power cord used on G5 iMacs (I think) is different but is also readily available. Either one will cost you less than $10.

  • Where can i buy a Power cord for my iMac in Perú?

I need it to turn on my iMac.
    I live now in Perú.

You might be able to find a power cord with the correct plug for Peru in the Apple Store covering that area of the world.
However you do not need to get a new power cord you can get a plug adapter to go from the plug that is on the cord to the receptacle in the wall. Any good electronics store or even a store that handles items for travelers should have one.
Note you do not need any sort of power  or electrical converter you only need to change the shape of the plug. The power supply in the Mac is universal.

  • Place to purchase 2cd power cord for iSight iMac?

Anyone know where I can buy a second power cord for a 17" iSight iMac? I've been searching the web but no luck yet.
Why would I need one? My new iSight iMac is going to live in a computer cabinet in front of a difficult to access wall outlet/power strip. I'd like to be able to move the computer around the house to watch DVDs in comfort (hurray for Front Row!), and a second power cord will make this transition a lot easier.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

How fussed are you about aesthetics? Have a dead electric jug or kettle or stereo amp at home? See if the cord fits.
    Cheers

  • Longer power cords

I wish apple would make their iPhone and iPad power cords longer. It can be annoying when you have it plugged into a power strip on the floor and your desk/nightstand is high.

Just buy a usb extension cable

  • Longer power cord?

Does anyone know of a place I can buy a 15-20' powercord for my imac? I know I can use a standard cord, but I was wondering if somewhere sold an iMac style connector (with the round plastic shield on the end?) that was longer than standard.
    Thanks!

Buy a Surge Protector with a long cord and plug your iMac cord into that.

  • Canadian power cord for my Imac

I am bringing my Imac from the UK to Canada..can I just replace the power cable, and where would I get one?

The iMac intel can handle all voltages.  Just need to get the right adapter for the wall end.  Radio Shack frequently stocks those.  G5 iMacs from 2005 or earlier are different, and only support unique voltage for Canada and U.S.  Which iMac do you have?

You can use any computer power cord. You can take one from a pc or even a monitor.

  • Buying a extra long power cable?

Where is the best place to get a extra long power cord?  The one that Apple supplies is just not long enough.

You have a regular AC power cord going from the electrical outlet to the white converter box.  From the converter you have a cord attached that has a MagSafe connector on the end.  Can you not just use a regular AC extension cord from the electrical outlet?

  • Replacement imac power cord

Is any imac power cord compatible for replacement? As long as the plugs match ther receptacles on each end, there is no transformer and voltage to worry about, I think any cord will work as replacement.  I couldnt find one on Apple store but there are several on amazon or ebay, thanks

Yes as long as the plug ends match and the wire is the proper guage it's fine. A Google search turned up lots of them.
