  • Newbie questions on Admin, Deployment & Answers

    Hi Gurus,
Sorry to be raising questions that may have been repeated over again. I tried to search thru the net/forums but cudn't find anything useful. Really wud appreciate any help/directions/links to the answers I seek
    Developement and Production Proposed environment
    - OBIEE Client Tools - Windows based
    - OBIEE Apps Server - Unix (HP-UX)
    - DB Server - Oracle 10g
Based on our Dev R&D, we have one physical layer, 5 business models and 5 corresponding presentation layers.
Currently we are facing some issues with the Unix setup so we are proceeding with our development R&D on Windows whilst re-installing the Unix box
    Administration
A1. Currently we are using our Data Source Connection Type is ODBC 3.5. As we are plan to have the Dev and Prod on Unix, what is the best Connection Type we should use?
A2. Is there any configuration when we use Unix?
    Deployment
B1. Since we are performing our Dev R&D, is it possible to move all our work from the current windows environment into our Dev Unix environment?
From the forum, I found there are 2 methods
B2. - copy the directories (C:\OracleBI\server\Repository and C:\OracleBIData\web\catalog) over for Windows. Is it possible to do the same from Windows to Unix?
B3. - using Catalog Manager. How do I use this? (Cudn't find any docu for it)
    Answers
C1. The total number of records is 9 but when we pull the data out from Answer the records are grouped returning only 8 records. Is there a config setting to return all the rows?
Also wud appreciate if you experts can share any tips/common practises that you practise for easier development/deployment etc? e.g. creating alises instead of using the imported table.
    Thanks
    B

A1. It's better to use Oracle native drivers connection for an Oracle database (OCI).
    A2. See [this thread|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=845201].
    B1. Yes, no issues.
B2. Yes, no problems. Just use FTP.
B3. Open two instances of Catalog Manager (one for your Windows Server and one for your Unix Server) and then just do Copy/Paste between them. Although it's simpler and better to copy the whole catalog using FTP as you mentioned in B2.
C1. Grouping is done by default because you have aggregable measures. Include the field that will break the records if you want to see them all. You can include a field in the criteria tab and hide it if you don't want to see it. This will force OBIEE to select it and show all records.

  • What's new in these days?Seeking to persuade, Adobe still insist FP Development. Waiting for answer

Seeking to persuade, Adobe still insist FP Development. Waiting for answer on line.
I am an AS3 developer, deeply in love with it. Recently I was very disappointed with Adobe.
Fp11.8 seems update frequenctly, but nearly no change. New feathers is all the same every time, why? Unity 3d and Fusion Chart has said goodbay to Flash Player, Weather Adobe is also?

Not sure exactky what's your point, but FP has been gaining some pretty nice features. The GameInput API, for example, is awesome despite a couple of remaining bugs, and a few cool GPU-acceleration features and updates have been creeping in FP too. I'd assume the frequent updates are more due to stability, while point releases are the ones where you see new features. You may want to double-check the changelog to see what has been changed on every version.
Unity has said goodbye to Flash because it solved a problem that was virtually nonexistant, and Fusion Charts would do better with a more cross-platform solution (e.g. Canvas/SVG) considering their target audience. I don't think either have anything to do with Flash technology per se.

  • Seeking support boards for developing dashboard widgets?

i posted this 4 days ago to the "Software Development 101" board here on apple support. absolutely no response. 7 people viewed it, none responded.
it's just a very simple question - can i get help here or could someone please point me towards support boards, on apple or third party, which can help me out with some snags i've run into in creating dashboard widgets? that's all, really.
any response and help would be appreciated.
here's my original message from four days ago...
    hi,
i'm trying my hand at the most rudimentary of developing for mac os x - developing a dashboard widget, using html, css & javascript.
i'm trying to make a simple widget that uses the real audio plug-in in the system (if you downloaded real player) to play a local portland, oregon fm classical radio station, kbps-fm 89.9 (www.allclassical.org).
i'm running into some snags both in making the "i" info button flip the thing around (it was working before, but since i added in the code that makes the real player plug in work, no matter where i place the position of the "i" flipper, it doesn't show up), and in the graphics i'm trying to create for the widget.
should i seek help here? are there better boards/forums for mac os x dashboard widget creation i can go to, and if so, can anyone direct me there? i know about adc, and am a (free) member, but they don't have discussion boards there and i don't want to pay oodles in tech support just to get some basic javascript and css questions handled.
if anyone could please direct me to where i can ask these questions or help me out, please let me know. thanx.

Check the Apple Mailing Lists. There are several lists that might be interesting to you. There is even a "Dashboard-Dev" list. Usually the topics discussed in the mailing lists are much more in-depth than anything on these forums.
Before posting, make sure to use the archive search feature to check similar problems and/or solutions to try.
Sorry about not responding sooner. You message hit the "sweet spot" on Friday. I generally only check this forum during the (work) week due to boredom. Once I leave work for the week-end, I'm too busy programming on my Mac myself.

  • Seeking Flash Development "Guru" in New England

Am seeking avenues for finding expert-level Flash developers
in the New England area, especially eastern and central
    Massachusetts.
We are now encountering more-than-occasional call for Flash
development expertise, and I'd like to have a short list of
reliable, "Guru"-level Flash developers to call upon for such
projects. Are there any resources either through Adobe or through
other places on the 'net to find such expertise? This would be
Flash at a sophisticated level, as for developing fully interactive
    training materials.
    Suggestions, or recommendations, anyone??

there's a job forum where you may have luck finding someone:

but if you don't need face-to-face meetings, you don't need

  • Web Dynpro JAVA developer attempting to unravel Environmental Compliance source code seeks guidance from EC NWDS Composition Environment specialist

It frustrates me to have to ask for detailed instruction on this issue, but normal means of importing these Java-based EC software archives just aren't working in our NWDI system. We never moved our production WDJ applications to CE (like so many others we jumped straight from NW7.01 to NW7.3) but I'm doing my part to come up to speed on composition projects. No matter how we create the NWDI track and import the software archives and dependencies, we can't get to a state where we can successfully import a project (product?) from the Development Infrastructure into the Composite Explorer perspective.
I need to know specifically how I, an experienced WDJ developer with no exposure to CE, can take the five .SCA files that contain Environmental Compliance 3.0 and get the project into my NWDS 7.31 workspace in a workable state, on my local system, without NWDI. Actual code modifications can wait for the moment, I just need to analyze the classes and EJB's to identify where we might want to make enhancements, and where/how to use the provided Enhancement Spots. I've followed the links, downloaded the .pdf's, read the online help, stepped thru the tutorials - I've done my due dilligence. It's common knowledge that Composition Environment is no longer recommended for new development, and as the EH&S programs are converted to WDA there are even fewer resources to look to.
These specific types of pleas don't often return results, as I have learned over my years in this community, but nothing ventured-nothing gained, and I am no longer afraid of looking dumb or being scolded. I just need help.
As always, points will be awarded.

    I agree in part Tobias.
Because the source code is in the SCA within the src.zip file within each SDA.
What does not exist within that SCA Standard is the SOURCEARCHIVES folder. In that folder should be a file (the extension .dcsa) for each DC (component) that SCA Standard.
In short, yes it is possible to perform a reverse engineering...
Just import the SCA Standard in NWDS.
Note the name and type of all DCs, its dependencies and its public parts... yes, it's a lot of work, as there are many interdependent DCs.
Done so, create a new workspace in NWDS and create a new SCA in DI (custom), inside it create all DCs with the same names and types (and dependencies)... identical to SCA Standard.
And soon after, entering the SRC folder of each of these projects (DCs) and replace its contents with the contents of src.zip file that is contained within the SDA files within the SCA Standard.
That done, we will have an SCA Custom with all representative of the SCA Standard DCs, but editable.
I agree it is not nearly a good practice, or even that SAP indicate that this is done... however, it is possible yes.
    Att,
    Angelo
