Seeking help confirming a specific problem

If you are operating in 10.6.2 or 10.6.3 and have the third-party application "Play Sound," please respond if you might be willing to try a couple things -- if you might be willing, I'll send details of what I find to be very odd behavior.

Tom, Thanks, most people don't have any problems. But for some reason, in this part of Texas, there have been problems. Just trying to narrow the problem down, for a cause and then a cure.

  • Seeking help for an unresolved problem in the MHP forum

Over in the discussion forum at the http://www.mhp.org webspace, in the "Getting Started With MHP Programming" section there is a thread named "How To Sign An App." where there are a lot of unanswered questions.
Is there anyone here who could perhaps have a look at the questions there please?
There used to be a man named Roger who was very knowledgeable about MHP in that forum and I have seen posts by him here in the past. I only know of him as Roger, so know of no other way to ask for his help than to hope that he is reading this posting. So, if Roger is reading this, could you possibly help please?
    William

    Hi Roger
    Thank you for replying.
In the event Jon Piesing answered the question on 12 May.
    http://www.mhp.org/forum/forum.xml?forum=13&thread=106&msgid=266
    The answer was as follows.
    quote
Right now app signing isn't used.
If it was used, the idea was that broadcasters would have signing certificates not developers. Whoever put your application on air would be responsible for signing it.
    end quote
That resolved the problem which had been raised as it was clear that an application developer does not need to obtain a certificate.

Just updated my iPhone 4 from IOS 6.1.3 to 7.1.2, I know I am behind the times, but I got there eventually! All seems well but I have one specific problem and hope someone can offer a helpful suggestion.
    On opening the app "Find my iPhone" I add my password and sign in, to be greeted with a screen that says;
"Update Find My iPhone. A new version of Find My iPhone is available from the App. Store. You must install the update to continue using the app. Update now"
On hitting the "Update now" button I'm taken to the relevant page on the App Store, to be told that I cannot update as it needs IOS8 to be able to continue and as my iPhone is only a 4 cannot install IOS8.
I'm left going around in circles. The only thing would be to delete the app, but looks like I could not re-install the version I would need. Any body have any thoughts or suggestions? (Apart from updating my phone, I have a few months left on the contract!)
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!
All of your help is much appreciated, thanks

First, confirm that ActiveX Filtering is configured to allow Flash content:
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/867968
Internet Explorer 11 introduces a number of changes both to how the browser identifies itself to remote web servers, and to how it processes JavaScript intended to target behaviors specific to Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, this means that content on some sites will be broken until the content provider changes their site to conform to the new development approach required by modern versions of IE.
You can try to work around these issues by using Compatibility View:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-11
If that is too inconvenient, using Google Chrome may be a preferable alternative.

  • Failing to install windows 8.1/7/ any kind of windows on my imac, seeking help foreal

Hey there. It's going to be a long post since I've messed with it for 4 days, and still no success even in the time I'm currently writing this message - the furthest I got is having tons of crashes and black screens. And now I can't even reclaim my lost harddrive space (resizing partitions doesn't work anymore).
I'll start with that I already tried to make Bootcamp work about a year ago, but then quit it out of no success and reverted all the changes. But this time my situation is different - I'm pretty sure something messed up in the middle and now I'm seeking help and answers to my questions. And here we go - one bright day I decided to install Windows 8.1 as a secondary boot system on my iMac for personal reasons. I went and added Bootcamp's ability to make a bootable USB on my mac by changing the plist file, and finally had the option to do so. Then got an ISO of Windows 8.1's installation, burned it to a DVD with disk utility (on the lowest speed) and here's already where my problems started. The disk failed to burn for some unknown reason, even though when I compared the contents it had the exactly same thing in both the ISO and the DVD. Weird isn't it? I still tried to boot it - and guess what? the DVD booted but it had the non-EFI interface (huge and pixelated). Anyway when I pressed next I had some weird driver errors, so I decided to use an USB instead (1 DVD wasted so far). I used Bootcamp to create a bootable USB with drivers and went to boot it. The USB booted perfectly fine under the name "EFI Boot" and then I reached the partitions screen.. Obviously I had weird errors again (GPT/MBR stuff). One tutorial on the web suggested creating a partition for the windows rather than using the Bootcamp pre-made one. I followed it by booting my main system, and using disk utility to delete the Bootcamp partition. Later on I booted again to the installation and created a new partition from the partitions screen. Windows created two partitions - a Microsoft reserved partition, and the secondary partition which is used for the windows files. After some time the windows finally booted for the first time. It took pretty long but went smooth - until it finally booted. Since here the problems returned - the Windows crashed every 5 minutes from a driver error (that's AFTER I installed the Apple drivers right after the system finished booting), I googled it and followed various tuts but it still wasn't fixed. I decided to quit using 8 since I liked 7 more anyway (I currently have it installed as a virtual system in Parallels), so I decided to install 7 instead of 8 since I never had any issues with it. Booted up my main system again - went to Bootcamp Assistant, USB creation. ISO file + drivers on the USB. I reboot. Holding ALT and... my mac can't even see the USB drive! Luckily I had 4 more installations (various ISOs) of Win 7, so I decided to try them. I tried ALL the Installations I in none of them my mac could see the USB drive (I wonder how my USB survived all this rewriting on it...) Again to Google we go. I researched a bit and realized that I'm missing a file called xboot64.efi in the "efi/boot" folder, which can be taken from windows. I tried extracting it from install.wim but none of my archiving apps could open it (I tried Unarchiver, Keka, 7zX, terminal's unrar command and more, none could!). I also realized my Win 8 installation had this file so I added it to the Win 7 USB. Now my mac could see the USB in the boot screen - and it booted. I saw the "loading files" screen, and after one minute of it... black screen. I waited 10 minutes. Then 30. An hour. Still a pure black screen. I thought something is wrong with my file, and read that this file is also found in an already installed Win 7, so I went to parallels and took it from here, then added it to my installation. Again my mac could see the USB, but still no luck. When I pressed enter to boot from it, nothing happened as if the boot screen was stuck - the drive was selected but it didn't do anything. I waited long time again and decided to stop waiting. I tried to burn another DVD, this time with Titanium Toast. Again the DVD failed to burn, and when I checked the content, it was the same as the ISO I tried to burn from (official ISO from Microsoft of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1). I went and booted it - this time I saw again "Windows" and "EFI Boot"in the boot screen, both with a disc icon. "EFI Boot" didn't load like the usb previously (loads forever), so I booted the "Windows" thing. The setup loaded, and finally I could see the installation window. Reached the partitions screen... and here the problems returned once again. An error along the lines of that Windows can't be installed on a GPT partition. Some tuts on YouTube and in Google suggested to simply format the problematic partition. And so I did - yet the problem wasn't fixed. After messing with all that for one more day - trying different installations, ways to boot the USB and DVDs, formatting the Windows partition etc, I decided it's time to stop messing with it since luck definitely isn't in my side when it comes to Bootcamp (and for the record, I never had any issues with OSX, but when I tried adding windows to it.. eh, you can guess.) I booted back to my normal system, and went to disk utility to delete the partitions. The Windows partition was deleted easily, but the Microsoft reserved one.. not so quite. (by the way when I boot into it I get a Win 8.1 error screen that tells me to repair the system, since I formatted the Win partition itself). Until this very moment I still can't delete the reserved partition and return my beloved 30gb that I lost because of the resizing (I can't resize my Mac HD partition).
I'm really desperate now. I tried everything and the furthest I got is getting a broken Windows 8.1 (which I deleted later), destroying 5 DVDs, shortening the lifespan of my USB drive, and googling errors the whole day for 4 days in a row. And now I can't even return my lost 30gb even after I decided to quit it. Please help or suggest me what to do, whether it's about how to successfully install Win 7 or to return my lost gigabytes, any kind of help is appreciated. If you managed to read so far, thank you for reading my post and I hope you'll be able to assist me and get me out of this situation.

Read the Boot Camp Help first. Boot Camp does not yet support Windows 8.1 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/system-requirements. If you insist on installing 8.1 use a virtual machine like parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox.

  • Specific Problem with Library Module 1:1 Preview Loading

Hi everyone.  I've spent hours searching Google & forums for specific tips to try but I've found nothing that solved my problem.  I have a very specific problem loading 1:1 previews in Lightroom 3.3 while zoomed to 1:1.
When I initially import a shoot (usually 3000 to 6000 images), I always render 1:1 previews during import.  My understanding is that this activity writes full-sized previews to the "Previews" folder, but I also have observed that .DAT files are created in the "Camera Raw Cache" folder.  I have my Lightroom Previews folder and my Adobe Camera Raw Cache folder on the **same** solid-state hard disk, which is dedicated to Lightroom.
When I browse these newly-imported images in the Library module in Loupe view at 1:1 zoom, it's very zippy and fast to switch between images.  The images load without any message at a lower resolution, and then "snap" to full resolution after 0.25 to 0.5 seconds. No "Loading" message appears.
However, once the previews have "sat around for a while", even if they are still supposedly available in the Previews folder, loading the image at 1:1 in Loupe as described takes 3-5 seconds.  Shortly after going to an image, the message "Loading..." is displayed (it doesn't say where from), and 3-5 seconds later, the full res image appears.
This has nothing to do with changes to image settings requiring re-rendering of the preview.  These are images that I've imported but haven't browsed in a while.  I know that the previews are valid, because I can go to "Library > Previews > Render 1:1 Previews", and the task will complete within 20 or 30 seconds without re-rendering any photos after examining them and apparently finding that there are still valid 1:1 previews for all 4000 of them.  After doing this "re-render," the slow loading behavior is the same as before, because the re-render process always completes without actually updating the previews that it found are already there and presumably decided were still valid.  Discarding previews by "Library > Previews > Discard 1:1 Previews" and then trying to re-render them also does nothing, because LR3 apparently doesn't immediately delete the discarded previews, so they are picked back up again As-Is by the re-rendering process.
If I had to guess at the reason for this behavior based on the symptoms, I would say that it seems like Lightroom is forcing itself to re-render 1:1 previews upon browsing to images that are older than a certain age (very possibly the same "30 days" after which the 1:1 previews are supposed to be discarded).
Now, I've also observed that deleting the DAT files in the Camera Raw Cache folder has no adverse impact on load speed (which is what I would have expected to see if LR3 was looking for and loading images from this cache instead of the Previews folder).
What this means to me is that once the image previews reach this "outdated" state, I can't get fast 1:1 browsing performance in Loupe with any reliable procedure other than manually deleting [in Windows Explorer] the entire Preview folder and then re-rendering the 1:1 previews for this shoot.  This is of course terribly inconvenient when there are recent previews that I want to save.
Note:  I do not have any slowness under any circumstance when browsing at "Zoom to Fit".  This is only a problem when I'm browsing at 1:1 zoom (like when I'm comparing sharpness between a set of photos).
Note:  For images with the slow behavior described, once the image has been loaded once at 1:1 zoom, it's henceforth snappy again when returning to the image (as if Lightroom was once again accepting the Preview file as valid).
    So, here's a summary:
Previews (X:\Lightroom Catalog Previews\) and Camera Raw Cache (X:\Lightroom Cache\) are on same, dedicated, fast drive
1:1 previews from recently-imported files load full-res at 1:1 zoom in less than 1/2 second.
Older 1:1 previews take 3-5 seconds to load full-res at 1:1 zoom, even though the previews are supposedly being loaded from still-valid 1:1 previews in the Previews folder.
I'm really tired, so i hope this makes sense.  I don't see how this could be a hardware problem, because I get good performance with recently-imported images.  I'm running LR3.3 on Win 7 Pro x64 with 8 GB of RAM and a 2.4 GHz Intel Core2 Quad CPU.  Never had LR3 beta installed - upgraded to 3.0 from the last 2.X version.  After upgrading, in response to this exact issue, I deleted my entire previews folder and rebuilt, but I continue to have the exact same problem on every shoot that I import.  It's most noticeable on the large shoots, because I end up having to browse at 1:1 zoom to compare a set of similar images.
Only workaround I've found:  in Windows Explorer, manually delete the Previews folder.  Return to Lightroom and rebuild 1:1 previews.  This forces the previews to be rebuilt for all images.
Another possible workaround I am going to experiment with: setting the Previews to "Do Not Discard", in case the defualt "Discard after 30 days" that I've used is causing or contributing to the problem.  If Lightroom is actually discarding the images after 30 days but forgetting that it had discarded them when asked to re-render 1:1's, maybe setting to "Do not discard" will bandage that problem by never discarding them to begin with.
All right, I'm falling asleep at the keyboard.  I'm afraid to add more details as they may become incoherent.  Hope to hear some good news, as fixing this problem would make my LR3 experience so much more pleasant.
Can anyone assist with this problem?

Yes - this is my problem.  Previews should still be valid, and "Library > Previews > Render 1:1 Previews" says the images are still valid, but then Loupe rebuilds them anyways.

    Ian Lyons wrote:
If everything was working correctly, the setting for discard shouldn't have any effect on whether the previews go stale or not. ...
My understanding is that if everything were working as intended, the "setting for discard" that I was referring to (Edit > Catalog Settings > File Handling > "Automatically Discard 1:1 Previews") should be the sole determinant of whether 1:1 previews must be rebuilt for images with unmodified settings.
For example, if I import an image and render a 1:1 preview, and if I set the "Auto Discard 1:1" setting to "30 Days", and if I make no changes to the image's settings, then I would expect that the image should render quickly (under 1/2 second) at 1:1 zoom in Loupe view for the next 30 days.  On the 31st day, I would expect the image to take longer to load as a new 1:1 preview was rendered and stored, and then I would expect this new preview to be retained for another 30 days.
I would furthermore expect that the 30-day counter would be reset every time the image was re-rendered (i.e. if I go into Develop and change something).
To a certain extent, this is functioning correctly on my system.  When I go to one of these "problem images" that inexplicably load slowly, returning to them subsequently is quick.  I think my problem is just, as Rob suggested, that some part of Lightroom's "brain" has wacky ideas about whether an up-to-date 1:1 preview exists or not.
If I choose to "Never" automatically discard 1:1 previews (which is what I just switched to), then I should "Never" see unmodified images taking 3-5 seconds to "Load" at 1:1 zoom in Loupe.
Since I just nuked my Previews folder again last night and re-rendered 1:1's overnight for a 3000 image shoot, it might be a while before I start encountering this bug again.  I will certainly post any further related experiences here and will keep checking for anyone who has further insight.

...we know that Lr3.4 RC fixed the manual discard bug, so, if I were you I would focus any further tests on Lr3.4RC.
Thanks for pointing this out.  I will upgrade to 3.4RC - at least then I will be able to force a rebuild of previews from one shoot without having to manually delete the previews for my entire catalog.  I'll no longer have to throw out all the food in the refrigerator just because something smells funny.

The DAT files are created at the same time as Library previews. However, they are only used in Develop module.
Yes, I definitely agree with this (although, the Cache is probably also used while rendering new previews after "Quick Develop" changes in the Library module....).  I posted my observations to this effect just in case someone else wondered the same thing I did.  It is clear that the DAT files get written every time a preview is rendered for RAW file.  Rob, now that I'm thinking with a clearer mind, I think the only thing these Cached files are used for is if you "return" to recently rendered settings in Develop or Quick Develop - then, that particular combination of settings yields a match in the cache, and LR loads the image from the Cache into Previews and onto the screen.  It is logical that the cache wouldn't help us when going to new settings, because the new settings would create a partially or completely different rendering than any other combination of settings.  Adobe may be going to more advanced levels of "reusability" than this, but I'm sure this is the general state of things.
You may want to open back up write access to that Cache folder...
    Thanks, Rob & Ian!
So, my question, or bug report, still remains for now - why am I biting into a bag of chips marked "Fresh" and finding them Stale?  And why does it say "Paper Jam" when there is no paper jam?

    Hi,
I have been worried about this problem since a long time. I couldn't get any help figuring out the problem. I am using microsoft visual j++ 6.0

I faced this problem with many codes.
When i used the jbuilder as one of the users suggested, i am getting this compilation errors,

Didn't we hear this from you yesterday? Sounds too familiar. If so, we told you you're using a MICROSOFT product (Visual J++), which is OLD, and not up to the SUN's java specification. We suggested that you dump Visual J++ and go with something like JBuilder, Forte, Visual Cafe, etc.
This is a SUN site in support of SUN's java - not Microsoft's outdated and non-existent (anymore) version.

I'm getting an error message from Firefox that says, "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help." Do you know what is going on here--what this problem could be? (I do have the latest Firefox version already installed. I have previously received Firefox error messages that say "Firefox Update Failed." However, I already had the latest Firefox version installed when I received those error messages.)

Apparently this occurs when Firefox has problems with security certificates. There have been a few questions about this. I will try to get advice about this.
Apparently you are using Internet Explorer 9 (From your system details). Do you have Google Updater plugin installed on Firefox ?
(That been implicated in this sort of problem by one poster, and some users with the problem do have Google Updater, but some do not)

  • Please Help in this webcam problem,Its Urgent

    Hi,
I have a final yr project by which I can see the picture(whenever I want) of a webcam of a Home PC from my mobile device.
For that I have to write a Java program which will capture the picture from webcam and changed the file format to PNG and then saved it to some directory.Whenever I will run the Java program it will automatically save a picture in the directory and it will do continuously after 5 sec and overwrite the older picture.
Can anyone help me with the code or some sorts of code.
Please help me as it is quite urgent.

Sorry, this forum is for solving specific problems, not for begging for help. If you have a specific problem you need help with, then ask...but I doubt anyone is going to put in the time to help you with a project you havn't put in the time to have specific problems with.

  • Specific problems with SB Live! 24-bit (SB04

    <SPAN>Hello all,
<SPAN>I just recently purchased a Sound Blaster Li've! 24-bit card for my PC. The installation process went without a hitch - I disabled the onboard sound and uninstalled its drivers, then proceeded to install the new card and its drivers off of the included CD. Generally, the card seems to be working fine, but there are a few nagging problems with certain games.
<B><SPAN>Far Cry</B><SPAN> - Referencing two related posts I've seen on other forums (but not my own), the problem is as follows:
<SPAN>)<I> In farcry i get a ways into the game and the </I><I><SPAN>sound</I><I><SPAN> starts to have a high pitch squeel and then static and then no </I><I><SPAN>sound</I><I><SPAN>? <SPAN>2)<EM> so i get in the water and when i'm almost at shore, there's this HORRIBLE screeching sound and it gets louder. it's really insane. it lasts for a few seconds and then the sound goes out (no more sound in the game) and the game freezes after that - </EM>an<EM> </EM>addition<EM>, </EM>this<EM> </EM>user<EM> </EM>was<EM> </EM>using<EM> a </EM>Sound Blaster<EM> </EM>Audigy<EM> </EM>LS<EM>, </EM>which<EM>, </EM>if<EM> </EM>I'm<EM> </EM>not<EM> </EM>mistaken<EM>, </EM>is<EM> </EM>what<EM> </EM>the<EM> </EM>SB<EM> </EM>Li've<EM>! </EM>24<EM>-</EM>bit<EM> </EM>is<EM> </EM>based<EM> </EM>on<EM>.</EM>
<SPAN>I have the exact same problem.<SPAN> Upon entering and exiting the water (only with EAX enabled, though) the sound screeches horribly for a few seconds, and then stops entirely.<SPAN> I?m not sure what?s causing it, but it only seems to occur while swimming, then coming up for air, and only with EAX enabled.
<B><SPAN>UT2004</B><SPAN> ? Unreal Tournament 2004 also has errors when using hardware-accelerated and/or EAX enhanced sound.<SPAN> It?s most noticeable when firing a weapon rapidly.<SPAN> It?s a bit hard to describe, really.<SPAN> Instead of the sound being a continuous chain of assault rifle bursts, the sound created by firing the first bullet is canceled out by the successi've one. That is, only the last shot in the clip has its sound played completely, with a few exceptions - every once in a while, the full sound is played for a shot, but it seems to be at random.<SPAN> The full sound is simply not being played. With regular 3D sound (non hardware-accelerated or EAX) enabled, the sound is played correctly.<SPAN> I hope that?s a decent enough description.
<SPAN>I?d like to use the EAX on this card to its full capabilities, but I?m currently unable to do so with these errors.<SPAN> I?ve ran through the basic troubleshooting one does with a new sound card, but these seem to be very specific problems with these two games.<SPAN> Or, I may have missed something.<SPAN> Any help would be greatly appreciated.<SPAN> Thanks in advance.

Well here it is, I have a audigy LS sound card and for a bit now I have been taking my cpu apart to find out what is causing my memory dumps and restarts in a game called city of heros. I went through alot of testing to find out that its not my graphics card hard dri've or memory stix causing the problem, what I did find was that when i get the blue screen of death it shows the cause being p7.sys driver which is a driver to the sound card. And when I turn off hardware sound acceleration in my direct x my restarts stop and no more memory dumps, when I turn the acceleration off it switches off the p7 to one that seems to work better. But the problem is now im in emulated mode and sound isnt all great. I bought the sound card to get better quality than the last card I had but it seems im having more trouble with the card than its worth. I'd appreciate any help with this problem as soon as possible, I have reinstalled drivers several times and tried changing pci ports checking for conflicts but all is good except It does that memory dump in the game. Im considering returning it if i can't resolve this soon thx for any help that may come.

    Hi
I've a big problem with adobe acrobat reader XI pro and I hope you can help me.
The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reader (adobe pdf reader, internet browsers, ...etc.).
This problem started to happen since yesterday when I installed adobe acrobat reader XI pro to try it before I buy it, and before that when I was using the free adobe pdf reader I was totally able to copy any text from any pdf and past it anywhere with nothing wrong.
    What can I do?
    thank you a lot.

There is no product called Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro. There is
    - Adobe Acrobat Pro ($$)
    - Adobe Reader (free)
Which do you have? And are you a programmer?
