Seeking hosting/reg alternative to....

I'm seriously considering switching from Godaddy to another hosting/reg company. I've used Godaddy for years and liked their pricing and simple registration process but I'm looking for a few more meaningful features.
Can anyone refer me to any reg/hosting companies where they have been around awhile and offer good service & features?
Please also note how long you've been their hosting/reg customer. That would help.

Mac Mini (power pc) line out - seeking better sound alternative

I have an older (power pc) mac mini connected to a stereo preamp via headphone/line out. Does anyone know if this it a true line out (2volt flat EQ no amplification/distortion) or is there an alternative product that could improve the audio output? i.e TrendsAudio USB Audio converter or Grifin FireWave? I'm looking for a high quality stereo audio signal via RCA connections to an sweet-sounding classic analog stereo system.

The Griffin iMic has a good history for audio out.

Designer Seeking Hosting ideas

I am currently in the process of working with an organization that is transferring management and design of their website to me from a previous manager. The prior manager will continue to host the website on their independent servers. What would be the best method for me to transfer my new design and updates to their server?
I like the ease of the MUSE FTP Host that uploads to Hosting Services (godaddy, a small orange...etc) and this is typically my method, however, I am not sure if I will be able to have that type of access due to the credentials that are required with MUSE. I have not yet discussed the capabilities of the host as of yet, so this is purely an informational type question, so I can be fully educated on the best ways to make this transition. Thank you.

You can either use upload feature through Muse or export as html and then upload using any third party FTP client, but for any case you would need the access details.
Only way would be manually transfer the contents to host who can access the server.

Reg: Alternative for running RSEOUT00

Hi all,
I have created an outbound program and when I run it i get the status message 30. Then I have to go to report 'RSEOUT00' and give the required parameters and run that report. And finally I am getting the status message as '03'.
Is there any other alternative or any configuration steps to avoid this explicit running of report. If yes please tell me the steps to follow to achieve my desired result.

In the partner profile, there is an option to process the IDOC immediately.
If you don't want to schedule RSEOUT00, please check the check box for process immediately.
In WE20, for ur message type, outbound parameters, Output mode Transfer Idoc Immed.

Running elevated scripts from SCVMM on a Hyper-V host

SCVMM 2012 R2 conveniently lets me run scripts on hosts using the Run Script Command.
When not using a runas account, the scripts are run on the host using the Local System account which seems to be unable to run elevated commands. In particular, I want to run the Get-VM Hyper-V cmdlet on the host, and this cmdlet does not work (or rather,
returns an empty list) from a non-elevated Powershell.
I don't want to disable UAC because I don't want want to weaken overall security on the host just for this particular scenario.
Is it possible to use SCVMM's Run Script Command to run elevated commands on the host? Alternatively, can I get Get-VM to return the list of VMs even when run non-elevated?
(In case it's interesting, I want to run Get-VM on the host rather than Get-SCVirtualMachine on SCVMM because I'm interested in the IDs of the SCSI controllers of the VM, and it seems that SCVMM and Hyper-V each return different IDs. If there's a way to
get the Hyper-V-visible ID from SCVMM cmdlets then I won't need to run any script on the host at all).

Suitable web host/hosting package for working through PHP solutions 2nd edition

I'm learning PHP and MySQL and working through the David Powers title PHP Solutions (second edition) and I'm a bit stuck in Chapter 4 on the point of where to locate your include files. The book says that for security reasons its seriously worth considering locating all of your includes files especially those containing passwords etc, outside of your server root and then adjusting the include_path.
I don't think I can edit the php.ini file as my hosting package is shared hosting and I can't afford to pay so much more for the kind of hosting package that will allow me to edit the php.ini file, so then I'm looking at the options of using a .htaccess file to change the configuration or using include_path() but my web hosts seem very restrictive as to the use of .htaccess and also I don't think my web hosts offer a folder outside of the web root to put my includes files. One of them has even said "files outside of the public_html will be visible and it will turn up that your website will not work properly or not work at all". This web host suggests alternatively using htpasswd and htaccess to password protect folders containing sensitive data.
Can anyone recommend a good web host and hosting package that will support what I'm trying to achieve working through this book?

I'm glad to hear that Power's makes that recommendation. It is wise to put passwords and data access files outside the web root.
Have you tested this on your current web host? Using the file manager they provide, can you go above public_html and create directories and add files?
I don't use shared hosting so I can't suggest a host for you, but if it's really true that you can't add files above the web root and you can't activate htaccess files, then find a host that does. I would also recommend going with a host that uses cPanel, just because it makes it easier to move from host to host, and make sure you get PHP version 5.3 and mysql version 5.
I don't find it convenient to put all the include files above the root, just the password and data access files.

- The idea is to leverage server-side application virtualization to increase performance for remote access (offshore delivery model).
- Address eDesigner�s slow response time connecting to remote repository by keeping the repository local to Citrix host server
- Alternative to remote desktop options
Has anyone deployed similar model? How was the response time/performance? What are the setup/configuration settings to look out for?
Are there any other options other than remote desktop?

In addition to below question I would like to know how eManager and logicalhost are used (in a similar offshore deliver model)?

Dreamweaver Subversion config isnt using server settings

When I try to access a subverion server I get the follwoing error

Why is it try to access http://www.duoworks.net? when it should be accessing https://pl2.projectlocker.com?
the setting used work ok on a laptop but on a desk top. Both machine ate Mac's running 10.7.5
both urls can be pinged ok and both urls can be viewed in Firefox.

127.0.0.1 is the loopback IP address that all computers use to refer back to themselves. Localhost is an alias for 127.0.0.1. In other words, they're the same thing.
The number after the colon indicates the port number that you want to access. The default port used by all web servers to listen for incoming requests is 80. So 127.0.0.1:80 or localhost:80 simply tells the browser to access the default port. The :80 is redundant, but does no harm.

Setting up a testing environment with XAMPP, WAMP, EasyPHP, or MAMP is very simple. Unfortunately, many beginners panic when their setup doesn't work the first time. They seek for an alternative, and try installing it without uninstalling the first attempt. Or they forget that they installed a different setup a year or so ago. Trying to install conflicting setups results in chaos.
Only one web server can listen on a particular port. Often, what happens is that you have two different servers running. The first one to lock onto port 80 wins. If you try to access pages in the other server's document root (htdocs in Apache), you'll get "page not found".
Another problem is forgetting to start the web server and MySQL. Very occasionally, problems are also caused by a firewall blocking access between Dreamweaver and the web and database servers.
I've been using PHP/MySQL for about 10 years, but I remember my own confusion when I first started. Once you understand the role of the web and database servers, and where you need to store your PHP files, it becomes a lot easier.

Error 1 occurred at an unidentified location

I've gotten the error shown in the screen capture below on a few occasions now. It started occurring when I began running two different experiments from the same CompactRIO hardware. I have a single target which scales all of the data, does alarm checks and writes the data to network shared variables. Two separate host vi's generate graphs and log data to separate text files. Previously I had one target vi and one host vi running just one experiment. Besides the fact that this error is completely nondescript, I don't see how adding a second host vi (plus some additional code to the target vi) could cause this issue. This will occur at random times when no changes have been made, so I'm not sure how an input parameter can suddenly become invalid if nothing has changed. I'm unsure if the target vi pauses when this error occurs, but I know from my datalog files that when this error occurs both host vi's do nothing until I click continue. So far every time this has happened I've clicked continue just once and everything ran normally again for several hours (or days) until I got the error again. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, due to the nondescript nature of the error, it is extremely difficult to comment on what could be causing it. My first thought is that both hosts are pulling information from the same location, and a race condition exists that only manifests itself occasionally. That is, if the hosts are alternately grabbing data, you will be alright as long as data is available. However, if they attempt to grab data and it doesn't exist because the other host already grabbed it, an error could be thrown. Are your hosts both running the same VI? Do they access data from the same locations? Do you use any local variables, which can lead to race conditions?
It would definitely be helpful to try and pin down where the error is occurring. To do so might present some difficulties. You could create a subVI that logs error messages along with information on what function just executed, and place this subVI at various key locations in your code. Then, when the error is thrown, you could go into the error logs to narrow down where the error was coming from, and debug that portion of the code to ensure no invalid or empty characters are in use. Remember that an empty string could cause an invalid character; for example, if both hosts were looking in the same location, one would find data and remove it while the other finds nothing.
If the error itself is not causing any negative behavior, then you could introduce error handling code that would check error conditions and remove the Error 1 before it was thrown. This would allow your code to continue running after the error was thrown. However, since you are not aware of the source of the error, it may not be the best idea to simply ignore the error indefinitely, as it could eventually manifest itself into a worse error.
I'm afraid I can't offer much more insight without more information on your code, what it is doing, how it is written, and how the hosts are interacting with the target. Hopefully you have made some progress in narrowing down the cause and debugging your code.

Basic Questions

Hi all,
I´ve some basic questions - we are seeking for an alternative for our MS Exchange System. So I need some more information before going to hot testing Oracle :-)
- Does Oracle Coll. support multiple Domains? Not only subdomains - either completley different Domains?
- Is it possible to create multiple Users via SQL (Massgeneration)?
A more technical question:
On my first testing (Solaris 10, Sparc) I run into a strange phaenomen - my FQDN hast an '-' interated and the installation process interpreted it as '_'? I mean I have read something about that but couldn´t find that in the doc. anymore. I think it is a big problem for sending mails if the system change my domain name from [email protected] to mail@fq_dn.com ... ;-)
Is it my fault or is it a "feature"?

Oracle Collaboration Suite supports multiple domains.
You will not create users with SQL but with some other commandline tools as their data goes into the OID and the CS database. But yes, it has tools for bulkcreation.
I have not yet had the pleasure of working with a domain with a - but you should be capable of creating a new domain with a dash and remove the domain with the underscore.

Portal runtime Error in KM Navigation iView

Hi,
I have created a KM Navigation iview and assigned it to a role.
When I preview it via portal content, everything is fine.
When I login as an end user with that role (to which this iview is assigned) this list of documents in that folder is shown. But when I click on any of the doc to view that, it gives me
Portal runtime error.
An exception occurred while processing your request. Send the exception ID to your portal administrator.
Exception ID: 04:09_22/07/11_0133_7786050
Refer to the log file for details about this exception.
I have already assigned the Full control permission for this role to that document folder.
Is there any more setting that needs to be done??

Hey Atul,
Check the URL Generator Service for the host and alternative host. See to it that these URLs have the same domain name as that of the Portal. Also, if there has been a KM database copy lately, see to it that the document is not pointing to the server in the other environments to which you as an admin could have access to but not as an end user. So, for that, again check the URL Generator Service. I am just throwing in possibilities, it had happened with me once.
Use HTTPwatch to verify what URL is the iView trying to point to OR I guess your logs might have already told you that.

Hdv print to video not working

Hi,
I am trying to print to video an HDV sequence, at HDV quality but neither my Macbook Pro nor G5 will see my Sony HVR10P or Canon XHA1. It is true that Final Cut Supports output to HDV decks using Print to Video yes? I can see the HDV Firewire 1440 setting in the External Video menu but it is greyed out.
On both the Camera and Deck I've tried all the different settings to get an HDV input signal, but to no avail. I'm also not getting a DV signal to tape using print to video. I can get the still image of the current frame though.
From what I've read this is supposed to be possible... does anyone have any suggestions? Going a bit nuts here after a couple of days,

Finally I've cracked it. There are a host of alternative HDV firewire setting in the Audio Video Settings. I was using the Sony HDV firewire setting which it defaulted to after recognising the Sony HDR10P deck. After trying HDV Firewire Basic and NDF to Print to Video there was no warning window "incompatible device" or "this sequence is not copmpatible with HDV Print to Video". It played through with a 2 second delay. However it wasn't stable - a large glitch at the beginning of the recording and no audio came through. Then tweaked to HDV Firewire 25fps Basic and it kept coming up with "run out of memory" just after conforming. It seems it IS possible but my systems are having teething problems and I should upgrade to FCP 6 - hopefully memory issues will be resolved there.

Unable to index documents in the folder

Hi,
Index server is unable to index the documents inside the folder.
I had created a WebDav folder(MyDocuement) and mapped it to my personal drive. When I created datasource has this folder. I am able to index the folder but not the content inside the folder.
When I checked the
System Administration > System configuration - KM configuration> Index Administration
Index Administration is in green color.
When I check Index Monitor. It indexed the folder and got error to index the documents in the folder.
what should be the rights to index the documents I had given everyong rights to the folder in the KM contents for this folder.
When I check the Display queue. It has given the Unknown hostname.
please Let me know what should I do to index the documents inside the folder.

As Robert has mentioned, check the parameters "Host" and "Alternative Host" in the URL Generator Service parameters. They should point to the exact portal address...
Also check last part of the document where it specifies about ..

Replace the prefix accordingly and check...

Transferring applications between two Macs in different locations?

What is the easiest way to copy an application between two Macs? I originally installed a graphics program on my old eMac G4, then used the Migration Assistant to transfer it to my new iMac G5. I then reinitialized the old G4 and didn't bother to reinstall the graphics program, but now I would like to have it on this machine as well and I can't find the original install disk for this application. Complicating matters is that the machines are now in two different places, one at home, one at work. This is an expensive program, so I would hate to have to buy another copy and am kicking myself for not being able to find it. Thanks for any help...

If you can't find the original install disk for the program, contact the program vendor. Some may offer you a replacement disk for a nominal fee. And be sure to follow whatever license agreement you have for the purchase of that software. If it can't be installed at both home and at work, and you can't afford another copy of that program, you may want to seek a cheaper alternative.

IWeb not updating to MobileMe

hello everyone. I have never posted to this forum before and I am relatively new to macs, so please go easy on me if I come off sounding like an idiot.
I have a webpage that I had previously published through my .mac account. After the update from .mac to MobileMe, my computer can't seem to publish my page. When I click the menu items in iWeb, there are still options that say "publish to .mac" and "publish all to .mac" and NOT "publish to MobileMe." I have checked for new updates to the iWeb software, but the software updater says everything is up to date.
Is there something I need to change within iWeb to make it communicate with MobileMe or is this a central Apple issue? I should mention that I have been able to log into MobileMe and my addresses, calendar, etc. has updated to MobileMe just fine.

These issues are happening for everyone it seems. The whole reason I subscribed to the .Mac (MobileMe) service was to be able to use iWeb and publish my own personal site. I'm not a big fan of the Web 2.0 (Facebook, MySpace, etc.), so using this service was a no brainer for me to keep my family and friends updated in the lives of my boys and I without all the work and drama of the other sites.
Anyhow, I know that although my pages are actually publishing, it is quite annoying to be getting the error messages. It's just a constant reminder that Apple still doesn't have things working the way that they should.
I'm sure they will have a fix soon as I'm sure that there are quite a HUGE number of customers out there who are actively seeking out other alternatives.
This situation is annoying, disappointing, and very unprofessional on Apple's part and I'm just a Ms. Everyday Person. I can only imagine these emotions are intensified for those of you who do rely on these services for professional purposes.
