Seeking keyboard for MBP

I am in the market for a mac keyboard to use with my MBP, and I was hoping to get some user opinions.
I have gotten quite addicted to the feel of my MBP keyboard, and was hoping to find a mac keyboard with a similar tactile feel.
I would prefer to have a wireless keyboard, but I'll take a USB keyboard if there is no wireless model for a model I might like.
So, what are the opinions on apple's wireless keyboard, and what other models are out there?
Thanks for the input.

This is USB not wireless, but pretty cool with 'laptop feel' and slim.

  • Looking for a replacement Russian Keyboard for MBP 17in

I have searched high and low for a replacement Russian Keyboard for my US bought MBP. Anyone have any ideas. Apple US is no help. Apple Russia won't sell it to me.

    Hi CKLB,
    Welcome to the forum.
These guys appear to specialise in International keyboards. Worth a call to see if they have the Russian flavour:

Alternatively, these guys sell Russian keyboard stickers which may be of interest:

  • What's a good external keyboard for MBP

Given that the MBP keyboard is so inadequate and Apple is seemingly too stubborn to give us a good one, an external keyboard is mandatory. However, I'm not sure what's good in the Apple world. There is, of course, the Apple keyboards and I'm going to take a look, but there are also some from Logitech and others. Does anyone have any suggestions on good ones? I purchased the iHome IH-K236LS, but just looking at it and feeling it and seeing that it requires a power cord is not making me feel like it's a good purchase. Plus the mouse feels incredibly cheap. Like something from a kids toy. And it requires two of the three USB ports (but does add two on the keyboard). Anyway, I'm thinking I'd better check into other possibilities, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

People have such different views of what makes a "good" keyboard, GTGeek, that it is almost impossible to make suggestions without getting a better idea of what your requirements are.
I grew up using manual typrewiters (Olivetti Lettera 32's etc), migrated to IBM and Brother electrics, and then nearly 30 years of different computer and data terminal keyboards.
In the early years, perhaps not surprisingly, the closer a computer got to approximating that of an IBM golfball the happier I was. Few computer keyboards seemed to have the "feel" or travel that I was used to. Despite this i gradually found I adapted to almost all of them.
I still have many of my older computers and I often get a bit of a shock when I use them these days! My favourite in days gone by on a portable was on the NEC8021a, but today when I use it the keys seem too sculpted and to have too much travel (both features I once really liked about it!)
The keyboards on modern MBPs , of course, are at the opposite extreme - flat keys and little travel. The same goes for Apple's own current external keyboards. I now use them all the time, but if you don't like the keyboard on a current MBP I doubt you will want to yourself. The feel is very similar.
The older white Apple Bluetooth keyboards had more travel , and more sculpting and a nice feeling of "solidity", but can only be found second hand these days.
I personally like the Apple Pro wired keyboards in days gone by, but, as with the white bluetooth they are now history.
I have two Logitech wireless and and a Microsoft USB keyboard tucked away in the draw (together with just about every keyboard Apple have ever made) . The Logitech and MS ones feel very "plasticky" compared to Apple offerings, but, as I said, I have simply adapted to the latter over time. You might find them fine if that is what you are used to.
On Mac notebooks my favourites in the past were those on the PB1400, the PB 12 and the earlier models of the MBP, but I've adapted to the current MBP ones now as well.
All of which adds up to the fact that the only way to decide something like this is to test them yourself, and, perhaps, to be prepared for a period of adjustment whatever you get before you can really judge it. Familiarity breeds contempt, they say, but in the case of keyboards it has always seemed quite the opposite to me. What you have been using most in recent times always seems to be the best after a while!

  • External keyboard for MBP

Is anyone using an external USB keyboard with their MBP?
What would you recommend? - thanks.

I use the Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard with mine, and it's a really really nice keyboard. Although it's a bit more expensive than just any old USB keyboard, I really am impressed with the performance and battery life of it (I've been using it steadily since late February for work (6-8 hours a day) and it just last week dropped to 4/5 bars for the battery.
If you're really set on getting a USB keyboard, though, I really like my Logitech Elite keyboard (I've only used it on Windows and Linux though).

  • Keyboard for MBP 64-bit

I have nearly installed everything! Wireless, ethernet, my graphics card, and even iSight works! The only thing that I cannot find is driver for the keyboard and for specialty keys like brightness, volume, and eject. I had to find a substitute programs for it (input remapper). Anyone know where to get the genuine driver?
*Posted in both boot camp form and MBP. Figure more people in macbook pro would know.

Of course I tried to install the Atheros drivers!
But the installation process did not finish. As the whole Boot Camp ionstallation did not finish.
I tried to install the Boot Camp from the Mac Pro Disk (found here http://andersonshatch.wordpress.com/2008/04/13/macbook-pro-and-vista-64-bit/)
again last evening. This time the installation process finished including Wifi and Keyboard support.

  • Seeking Interface for MBP to copy my old 8MM to iDVD

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced interface so that I can take the analog 8mm camcorder movies of my kids and transfer them to DVD?
It's an od Sony 8mm so I will be dealing with RCA outputs on the camera side.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.83 GHz 1.5 GB RAM

I know it would be nice to be able to use iDVD and the MacBook Pro for this job, but I think you will get it done much faster with a dedicated DVD recording system. You can get a good DVD recorder (with RCA input) for <$200.
Something like <a href="http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vModelDetail?storeId= 15001&catalogId=13401&itemId=97129&catGroupId=24987&modelNo=DMR-ES15S&surfModel= DMR-ES15S&cacheProgram=11002&cachePartner=7000000000000005702">this device from Panasonic will be very quick about everything (can keep up with compression/recording in real time) although you won't have any of the fancy menus that iDVD lets you make.

  • Relacing keyboard in MBP 15" - how easy?

Hi all, I am awaiting the arrival of my new MBP 15". I use both Russian and English. Buying MBP in Russia with the Russian keyboard carries an exorbitant surcharge, sometimes as high as $500 to $1,000, depending on the greed of Russian resellers. This is the reason I purchased it in the US from PowerMax (I live and work in the US).
I saw a replacement Russian keyboard for MBP 15" model sold at one US site ($140), which claims that it is an original Apple part. Is it difficult for an average user to replace a keyboard in the latest MBP 15"? I am not afraid of opening a computer and I did a lot if improvements myself to my old G5 (which was recently replaced with newest Mac Pro), including replacement of fans, hard drives, memory, optical drive, etc.
Or is it advisable to get keyboard replaced by an authorized Apple dealer of Apple store technician? Approximate cost?
Any hints would be very much appreciated.

Are you sure the keyboard you have seen is for the correct model, sercher? The one used in the Unibody MBPs is completely different from that in the early ones.
Replacing it usually involves a complete change of the entire upper body, and even used English upper cases for the unibody models usually sell for around $300. I gather that it is possible to change the keyboard once the upper body has been removed, but this adds some further complexity.
Even simply replacing the upper body is quite a tricky process by the looks of the instructions, and certainly harder than most work on G5's and the like. - see http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Unibody-2-53-G Hz-Mid-2009-Upper-Case/1587/1
Have you thought about simply using a cover? see http://www.kbcovers.com/servlet/Detail?no=84 for example.

  • Keyboard for MacBook Pro

Pse could you tell me what model keyboard would be compatible for my MacBook Pro running 10.5.8? Thanks

I think it needs to be a wired keyboard because the one you mentioned says it is only ok for 10.6, not 10.5. I have found two different models, all second hand I think. The MB110LL/A seems to be the right one but is not easily obtainable but thre is also MB110B/A which I could get new but I don't know if it is compatiblel with 10.5.8? I have had my MBP a while but am happy with it, would just like a seperate keyboard for home use.

  • Invisible Shield Pack for MBP

    http://www.shieldzone.com/category/laptops/
Does anyone have any experience with them? They now offer a full shield pack for MBPs.
I want to get some feed back before I chuck down $100 to get it for all my gadgets/computers.
    Thanks

More to say… If you haven’t already purchased a sleeve, take a look at the Italian made Tucano’s Second Skin. I mention this in relation to your protection pack. I now have 3-sleeves and 3-bags so I have learned what works and what works very well. It’s also made from the same micro-fiber as many of the keyboard/display protectors. In fact, the Second Skin sleeve also includes a really thin keyboard cover that adds to your travel accessories. This way, you’ll have an extra cover along with one of the best sleeves out there.

  • What is the ideal resolution combo for MBP 13" and Projector?

In our school district we are using 13" MacBook Pro's (OS X 10.7 Lion) and external epson projectors, projecting to a Promethean Smart Board. The default resolution for a MBP is 1280X800, that is a no brainer. Now everything I've been reading says that projectors like to be on 1024X768. When we do that the projector resolution dictates that resolution to the MBP screen and the MBP screen is of course distorted. They don't play nice when trying to set independent settings. We've found that 1280X800 for MBP and 1280X960 for the projector works best. When set at these settings and you plug and unplug the VGA adapter the settings on the MBP hold to 1280X800. But we have to keep calibrating the Promethean Smart Board though inbetween plugging and unplugging the VGA adapter's. Any ideas?

Try setting up the projector at 1024x768 as it calls for, but you want to use the best image. This might require a resolution reset as you are dealing with 3 different viewing sources. (ahh, if only they would come up with a standard.
You can try a pram reset with everything up and running, this can sometimes correct distortions.
    NVPRAM reset:
Power down the mac, power it back up, before the start up chime, press and hold the following keys:
option, command,P,R,(no commas) and continue to hold these keys till you hear the start chime 2 times. See what you have. You might have to reboot.
Also you can try connecting the projector, fire up the mac then the projector, it might auto-detect. You can try system preferences click detect displays,
As for the smart board, you would have to contact the manufacturer for details.
I know I have not offered much here, but it's worth a try, can't hurt anything.
Also, if you plan to contact the Community in the future, please ammend your profile with the model and OS you are using, as it could help you get more info.
Does your IT person have  stuff locked out? Most school districts have many of the useful tools locked out.
The reason I know this is my wife is a school teacher, and we end up doing most of her multi media stuff on one of our personal computers, because of the lock down imposed on the entire staff.
I hope there is something that might help you here. If not get your IT person to make it happen.(If they can)
    Good luck

  • I need to reprogram the delete and enter key to the left side of a external keyboard for the ipad mini. don't need the caps/lock or ctrl key and due to an injury my daughter can only use her left hand to type. She is using a text to speech app to verbaliz

I need to reprogram the delete and enter key to the left side of a external keyboard for the ipad mini. I don't need the caps/lock or ctrl key. Due to a brain injury my daughter can only use her left hand to type. She also uses a text to speech app to verbalize all of her needs since her speech isn't intelligible any longer either. And her vision was significantly affected also, so the keyboard has to be mounted about 6 inches from her face. So to reach across the keyboard with her left hand to the right side delete and enter button is physically difficult and causes typing errors, which cause people to not understand what shes trying to say.
The best keyboard so far is the Zagg folio mini. I just had to make stickers to enlarge the letters on the key buttons.
Does anyone know how I can reprogram these two keys? Or where I can buy a wireless mini keyboard for Ipad made for lefthanders with these two functions on the left side. I have searched for days and days. It's sooooo important to me that she be able to contribute her voice again. Imagine if you got in a car accident and couldn't speak clearly any longer, but understood everything still. Thanks for any help and suggestions you all take the time to share with me. I really appreciate the kindness of strangers to help me help my daughter.

    You cannot.

  • I just got a wireless keyboard for my iPad 4 and can't get the onscreen keyboard to stop showing as I type with the keyboard.

I have a just bought a bluetooth keyboard for my iPad 4 and it works fine. It connects with bluetooth and when I type the characters appear fine but the on screen keyboard will not go away. How do I get it to disappear while I am using my bluetooth keyboard.
    James, arealniceguy

Yes that was my next step but I removed the Swift key app I had installed with slightly different functionality than the Apple default screen keyboard. I figured I really didn't need that functionality since the Bluetooth keyboard offered far more flexibility. Sure enough the well designed default Apple keyboard seems to know it is not needed when an external keyboard is in use. Apple software just works better as always.

  • Where can I find a certain keyboard for my laptop?

    Hi there!
I sadly spilled water on my laptops keyboard and some of my keys display two letters at once.
    For example when I hit 'y' I get 'y6' and when I hit 6 I get 'y6'
This goes for other keys as well were they are flipped.
Is there any way to fix this problem?
If not where can I find a keyboard for my laptop?
