Regards,
MritunjayFirstly you are +never allowed to re-take a passed exam.
Your pass of 1z0-007 will remain a valid pe-req for the SQL pre-requisites of 11g DBA OCA certification, so from the certifications viewpoint you have no need to wory about taking an SQL exam.
You can therefore, with your existing pass, gain 11g DBA OCA simply by passing 1z0-052.
....... However you should perhaps consider whether you wish at some point to gain 11g DBA OCP. And if this is the case you may wish to consider what (if any) training courses you have successfully passed. It may be you have traning courses eligible for 9i DBA OCP; and if that is the case there may be value in achieving that certiifcation first.
All relevant details are available by careful browsing of http://certification.oracle.com and appropriate drilling down.

  • How to get Oracle 11g OCA, OCM, OCP certification?

    Hi,
This is my first post! Please pardon my ignorance. I want to get Oracle 11g OCA, OCM, OCP certifications done. How do I go about it? How much does it cost to get these certifications? Could you please suggest a website/url where I can get more information about it.
    Thank you,
    Tracy

The Oracle Certification Program site should answer your questions.
Assuming you are trying to get certified on the DBA track (there are many different certification tracks, I'm assuming when you say 11g that you mean to indicate that you're interested in the DBA track), you can see the progression of the exams and the options you have on this page.

  • Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?

    Hi all,
I am lil bit confuse to decide about my oracle core dba certification.
Please help me to know, as per the present requirements of the business organizations.
    ***Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?***
Hope u guys answer me earliest.
    Thanks & Regards,

Most likely, it doesn't matter too much. I doubt that most employers are terribly concerned with what recent version of Oracle you have a certification on.
    That said, if it matters
    - What does your organization use? What are their plans to upgrade? If your company still uses 9.2 primarily and has plans to upgrade to 10.2 this year, you're probably better off with a 10g certification. If your company is already running mostly 11.2, you're probably better off with an 11g certification.
    - What do most employers in your particular part of the world tend to use? What do job postings in your particular part of the world generally list?

  • Oracle 11g OCA certification

I am newbie .I would like to know a good book for Oracle 11g OCA certification ,1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052(with lesser number of mistakes).Appreciate a response.

I can tell you from personal experience that it is extraordinarily difficult to write a technical book with zero defects. Spell-checkers and grammar checkers produce huge numbers of false positives when looking for standard (i.e. non technical) errors. Technical errors are easy to introduce -- forget to add a 'Not' in a sentence, or something similar -- and hard to detect afterward. When I read through my study guides looking for errors, I tend to see what I meant to write.
That said, such defects are normally a tiny fraction of the information contained within certification manuals. A couple of reviews on the Oracle Press 1Z0-052 book written by John Watson mention a couple of errors and then imply the book is filled with more. I've read the book and it is very informative. It contains hundreds of pieces of information and contains about ten errors -- all mentioned in the errata on the McGraw Hill site. The books is good preparation for the text and for learning the basics of being an Oracle DBA.
As Aman indicated, using more than one source is a good way to help to detect inaccuracies. I believe in always using multiple sources and the documentation is generally a good option for that.

  • Exams to take for DB 11g OCA

I'm still new to Oracle. In fact I''ve just been hired to handle Oracle E-Business Suite along with the Oracle Database 10g. I'm quite interested in taking certification in 11g OCA. And maybe OCP in the next 2-3 years. I read the prereq for OCA is 1Z0-051 - SQL Fundamentals 1 for 11g and 1Z0-052 - DB Admin I. I'm quite confident with my SQL syntax since I've been working with SQL for 2.5 years in my previous employment. So I'm thinking about taking the SQL Fundamentals I first, then take training for 1Z0-052, practice DB Admin for a year then taking the 1Z0-052 exam.
    1. Is this doable?
    2. Is it possible that in one year period, the prereq for 11g OCA could change? (the prereq exams for 11g OCA is changed to 1Z0-047 - SQL Expert + 1Z0-052) and thus renderring my 1Z0-051 exam worthless?
    3. Where can I download Self test for exam preparation? Free would be preferrable, because the test I found cost about US99. I'm assuming this is allowed because I read many threads that's asking basically the same thing and are considered cheating.
    Thanks.

  • 9i OCA to 11g OCA

    Hi,
Is it possible to upgrade from 9i OCA to 11g OCA.
Obtained the 9i OCA by completing 1Z0_007 & 1Z0_047 in early 2008. so it is basically a prometic ID, I just requested to merge it with an Oracle Testing ID.
I see that 11g OCA needs the same set of exams to be taken. so is any upgrade exams to be taken to acquire 11g OCA or will it be possible for me to go for 1Z0_146 to acquire 11g OCP directly.
Sorry it the question is so lame but I'm really confused.

Might be time to stock up on 1's before speculators start buying them up and the price skyrockets.don't worry ... i just feel glad i am not the only one who does typos etc ... and I have done far worse .. especially when I forget to include the word 'not' ;) ...

    * Advanced Professional Certification Path – Option 1 : Has the exam code after the exam name ... everything else is the other way round (Trivial bu basic).
    * The associate certification path for Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate has 'Oracle Forms Developer Certified Professional' as next steps but omits 'Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional' as a next step.
    * Oracle Forms Developer Certified Professional omits the 1z0-151 option and only has 1z0-141.
    * As written 'Advanced Professional Certification Path – Option 2' is redundant as it is already covered by 'Advanced Professional Certification Path – Option 1'
    * However my unstanding is that for holders of the retired exam 1z0-101 ( in place of 1z0-147/1z0-144) it is possible to achieve PL/SQL OCP without PL/SQL OCA first ... and in the context only 'option 2' makes sense. However IMHO without considering retired exams 'option 2' is more confusing than helpful. Obviously 1z0-001 options are possible, but omitted as confusing).
( I have outstanding a task to exam carefully another of these but it is not one in my zone so much so i'd need to find time ...... and i am more of asr33 man than a gui man).

Please guide in this regard. There is no 'upgrade' for DBA OCA.
Simply take the 1z0-052 exam (your existing SQL exam pass should be the other pre-requisite).
However ..... if you ultimate goal is 11g DBA OCP but may have already untaken the required authorised training for 9i DBA OCP ... and i the can 1z0-032+1z0-033+1z055 would be a route to 11g DBA OCP without further training. If you have not already received an authorized traning course this is less important.
See http://certification.oracle.com and review the getting 'started pages' carefully.

  • Regarding 11g OCA and OCP exams

    Hi,
I have 10g OCA. Now i am planning to write 11g OCA and OCP. Do i need to write 11g OCA or can i upgrade my 10g OCA to 11g.
Can any one please let me know how to prepare for 11g OCA and OCP. any web links or any text books do i need to follow in order to get good score in both certifications

There is no upgrade path for the OCA certification. You'd need to take the 11g OCA exams. Assuming we're talking about the DBA track (there are many different tracks), you should have passed one of the SQL exams when you got your 10g OCA so you probably only need to take one more exam for the 11g OCA.
All of Oracle's documentation is online at http://tahiti.oracle.com. You should be able to find more than enough information about all the exam topics there.

  • Require some suggestion related to OCA

    Hi,
I have a basic/intermediate knowledge of SQL ( cleared 1st papar of MySQL DEV exam last year), now because of requirement at work , i have been given an additional responsibility to do Oracle related study and certification.
I am planning to go for Oracle 10G OCA - DBA track, and i am thinking to go for Exam IZ0-042 since my co. is taking care of expenses for oracle class for this one.
In order to do practise and learn i was thinking to install oracle on my machine instead of straight away landing in class with blank face .
Let me know which are the best available options
    1) Install windows xp on vmware and then install oracle on vmware , although i am not sure which oracle version should i go for Express Edition or some other edition ?
    OR
    2) Install oracle on xp i.e.directly on physical machine rather than vmware.
    OR
    3) Install ubuntu ( not sure of the ubuntu version whethere it should be desktop or server ) and then install oracle
I was inclined towards option 1 or option 2 , since i am not very good at linux stuff, and i dont want to spend much time on linux right now, rather i would prefer concentrating on oracle portion.
Based on your exp. can you suggest me which is the best option and also which version of oracle i should download ?
    Oracle Express edition
    OR
Standard Edition, Standard Edition One, and Enterprise Edition
    Waiting for your reply.
    Regards
    Learner

    1) IMHO If you are going for the oracle database administration then I would avoid 10g XE as one of its features is that it hides some dba stuff under nice simple icons.
(If you were a developer I would be urging you to chose 10g XE)
    2) Ensure you database server has enough ram, 1Gb will barely do it and i'd prefer over 2GB.
    3) bigdelboy doesnt do vmware so I'll let someone else help you.
    4) Be aware that if you install an oracle database on your main machine it may begin to behave like a dog. Determine if this is a problem for you. It is is then you can probably pick up a ddr2 dell 280/620 (or better) with an xp license and hyperthread cpuand up-ramed to 2/4 gb quite cheaply. (Using Oracle enterprise linux can be done for free, ubuntu can run oracle but support can be harder to get).
    5) Initially concentrated on the 2-day DBA course:
    6) If you've been used to MySQL type of SQL you may find Oracle SQL sightly different. Be prepared for this in your class.
    7) If you haven't taken the 2nd part of your (Sun) MySQL CMDEV5.0 paper 2 already then the exam has now moved to Sun/prometric and may cost up to 50% more for part II :-(
    8) I cannot comment if the training chosen for is is appropriate for the job the employer wishes you to do.
Hoep this gives you a few things to think about.
    Rgds- bigdelboy.

  • Seek strategy advice after acquired OCA

    Dear all,
I'm seeking advice from whom is willing to share strategy on how to get a job after OCA is acquired. The situation is this, I was in networking industry with 4 years experience but was cut short because of the changing trend in the economy and decided to focus career on Oracle related job. I just completed my first 1Z0-051 exam and preparing my next exam to get OCA.
My concern is that I wasn't that young (I'm 36) and don't have any experience in database world whatsoever even though I have background in computer and electrical engineering. What is the best strategy to start my career in the industry as soon as the certification is acquired?
    best regards,
    Val

    jgarry wrote:
As one who has seen network admins thrown into DBA work and fail miserably, I'd say your best option might be a smaller company that requires a spread of skills among a few people. That way you can impress them with your previous skills while developing your current ones. My impression is there are a lot of companies that have a few people in IT and those inevitably don't have a DBA but need the work done, and may not even know it. The problem with DBA work from a business perspective is that it is overhead. The problem from a skills perspective is that it requires quite a different view of solving problems (as well as being able to have multiple views of problems) and the real issues vary quite a bit from what is taught in OCA. So if you are good at switching hats on a moments notice, you might make the transition successfully. Some of the best DBA's I've run across came from math or EE backgrounds, and I think that is because they are taught to transform complex problems into solvable problems. Certification (especially network certs) emphasizes memorizing tasks, simply the wrong approach for solving complex problems. And that's why OCA has such a bad rap. Junior operational DBA's usually have boring repetitive tasks, but there is a lot more to DBA work than that.
How to find such companies? That's a toughie. But keep at it, dealing with massive rejection is a marketing skill, which also helps in DBA work (in which by its nature, most success is invisible), and with a crashed improving economy full of companies that have lost good people, eventually you get something. If you are a mid-30's female, you have an advantage, believe it or don't (can't tell from Valerie, of course). I personally dislike linkedin, but it sure seems to be on a roll.would you be kind enough to publish the name of such guys who worked as marketing before and worked as a DBA just having only OCA ? !--! My dear friends word without an evidence has no value. !--! These days I found only OCA guys are not recruited to reputed companies !--! I found DBAs are not eligible   for BPO also !-_-! as they are not certified for BPO. I assure OP that vendors will shipped some job links after completion of your OCA along with your success kits -- few days back i get call for such !-_-! As a 500 --internal server error or network connection failure error or some database may be down or having some performance issue for storage also so DBA must know everything pl/sql is related to sql tuning which is a major part of PT and disk array concept is required also. so after knowing everything you can be a DBA. !-_-! . So my opinion is very simple first grab a job then learn by day by day, certification is useless unless it is supported by practical experience. And think 100 times to switch your domain always.Even after grabbing experiences you may found that certification has become more useless. As a DBA your friend will be alertlog and google and oracle docs will be your teacher.
    kind regards

  • Suggestion for a new OCA / OCE exam

I have noticed that there are a lot of candidates who learn for an exam. There seems to be a lot of incentive to studying for the exam and "learning" the material.
However, there are also a lot of candidates who do not understand the 'certification', 'learning', 'followup' processes. It also seems that if there is no reward, such as a certificate, skills and processes are overlooked or misunderstood.
I suggest an OCA (or perhaps an OCE) level exam that tests the candidate for "How to find information on Education.oracle.com, Certification.oracle.com, Certview.oracle.com, Tahiti.oracle.com, OTN.oracle.com"; "What happens after you write the exam and how long do I have to wait"; "Why I should have only one testing ID"; "What is a FAQ"; "Ability to use internet search engines and how to formulate questions"; "Why do forum administrators bother with Forum Stickies", and the like.
While somewhat tongue-in-cheek (or at least cheeky), I encourage thinking about this. We are churning out people who supposedly are professionals, and yet some have no idea what that 'professional' icon means or where to find out more information about it.

Well not an OCA or an OCE certificate but perhaps an OCS, and that could be useful for partners as well. The problem is if offered online it would be abused.
I get concerned when a candidate newly registered for OTN has just passed the high stakes exam for an OCA wonders where their certificate is. It is a concern they don't seem to have researched the certification process much. The lack of familiarity with the certification process seems slightly concerning ... and there is probably a lack of familiarity with the Oracle websites as well, which is not what one would expect from a certified person.
The new OTN registration isn't a definite indicator of a problem here, but it is a strong indicator there may be something unsatisfactory.
Indeed the absolute worse case is an SQL exam online by proxy taker followed by braindump use or a proxy take of the high stakes exams.
In practice I would suspect that an unbalanced delivery of the WDP training or third party training or university training may be a culprit. (and I may be wrong here). (Note there seems to be an increasing tendency for some universities to focus on education by certification study ... ).
I really think it would be useful if a candidate was required to register with Oracle (by means of an SSO/OTN account) before being able to book a certification examination rather than being simply able to goto Pearson VUE/Prometric (This is the case with a lot of other Testing programmes, and was the case with Sun until recently). IMHO This would encourage a good 'first contact' with Oracle and would encourage the following benefits:
    - A relationship with Oracle would be established sooner during the exam preparation process.
    - There would be an opportunity to point the candidate at useful processes, authorized learning methods and resources via email.
    - An earlier point in the learning process to discourage bad learning technique
    - The sales people would love the opportunity to sell oracle training.
I think there is an argument for requiring OTN registration at least a month before a certification exam can be booked ... exceptions being if an Oracle University Course has been attended. However the logistics would probably fail on this and it could hurt people who have just left an employment.
Edited by: bigdelboy on 07-Apr-2010 00:57 PS: - Hans - You also didnt great job with one of the sticky announcements. I really think however now that Prometric / Pearson Transition has happened and merge with Sun is stable all the sticky posts should be reviewed and rolled into one entitled something eyecatching like only silly people should not read this FAQ first

    Hi,
Not sure about the behaviour in 11g, but we faced a similar issue in 10g while passing the presentation varaibles to detail report where main/detail report where coming from different subject areas. The behavior was a little unpredictable. To overcome this, we tried using request variable instead of presentation variable and it worked for us.
You can give it a try by doing the same and see if it works for you.
