Seeking Tips BEFORE i install neo2...

This is my first build and i am asking you all to post tips or advice for a problem-free install. I have already seen the builders sticky, but wanted more. These can pertain to specifically the Neo2, or mobos in general. I already took care of a major component: I bough the Enermax 460W PSU with 33A on the 12v rail. Here are some tips i have come by, any like this will be welcome for all i hope!
-If using a whinchester core and the bios isn't the latest, using one stick of RAM will allow the system to boot untill the update
-Make sure the floppy cable is the right side up
-I believe i read that a WD IDE drive does not work as a master if it is the only hard drive. Could be the case for other HDs as well.
Stuff like this that will make the install as fast and problem free as possible.
Thanks
-Chris

  • Universal Crossgrade's Been Despatched - any tips before I install?

    Probably a Thrashed-to-Death topic - but new things crop up . . .
Any problems or pitfalls with the Crossgrade before I dive in?
    Can't wait!
I love installing stuff on a Mac - it was always a nightmare on a PC but those days are long gone since I changed to Mac, thank goodness!

Well, the padded envelope with four DVDs in crumpled white packets arrived yesterday - with a sheet of "instructions" which said something about using the Apple Loops disk I already had . . . But I'd sent all the disks back to Apple!
Anyway, I started the upgrade and the first new disk it asked for was (you guessed it) Apple Loops.
There's no facility to skip, so we went back to the beginning and started the upgrade again.
    This time I was ready!
I de-selected Apple Loops in the Custom Setup section, and off we went again.
Guess what? After doing the FCP Installation disk bit, it asked me for Live Type Disk! . . . No LT disk was available - I'd sent it back to Apple.
Obviously, the guys at Apple have a great sense of humour - but unfortunately, I was the butt of this particular joke, it seems.
OK - we started from the beginning again - but this time I was more careful. I decided to check every item on the Custom Install panel.
To my horror, I noticed there were no bytes associated with Final Cut Pro . . .
Well, there's a thing! I sent the FCP disk back with the rest - so now I only have my system backup to rely on if anything happens to Final Cut Pro.
. . . and Compressor too - no upgrade, and now no installation disk!
OK - I know I've read on the forum that people copy installation disks before they send them off - but I don't recall that being recommended on the FCS Crossgrade page when I paid for it.
I assumed Apple would replace the disks I sent. But I only received FCS, Motion, DVD SP and Soundtrack Pro.
I feel cheated and vulnerable now I have no FCP or Compressor disk (not to mention Live Type and Apple Loops) - and they didn't even return the nice little black box the disks came in originally, so I have to find something suitable to store them in together.
I've installed what I can - and done a full software upgrade.
I'll come back when I've used it for a while.
    But I'm not amused . . .

  • Any tips before installing Leopard 10.5?

    Hi,
I recently purchased Mac OSX Leopard family pack to upgrade my iMac G5 which currently has Panther 10.3.9, and then to upgrade my Macbook Pro which has Tiger 10.4.11. Before I install the disc, is there anything that I should do or check that might facilitate the upgrade? For example, should I run disc utilities, disc repairs, etc.?
    Thanks,
    Art

    1. Check to be sure you have enough physical memory. I currently have 4Gbytes on my MBP. If not the Apple/Samsung factory memory is available from http://www.macsales.com/ and it is a lot less expensive.
    2. You might want to verify your disk before you install the new O/S.
    3. It might be time to upgrade to 250Gbytes on your disk if you plan to load it up with audio and video.
    4. Check to be sure you have upgraded your router firmware to the latest version. If its more than a year old you may want to consider buying a new router. iChat is a little finicky (b/c of NAT) about the router it uses for video conference. I bought a Time Capsule and ALL my video problems disappeared. Go figure. Mass market routers like Linksys can't keep pace with the new machines on the market.
    5. Install 10.5 via "Archive and install". You will be able to select this "Option" at the "Select destination" screen. This produces the cleanest and most reliable upgrade installation. Also, when you go to 10.5.2, download the Combo upgrade to your desktop and install it from there. This method offers the most reliable upgrade to 10.5.2.
    6. Check any third party applications to be sure they are compatible with Leopard.

After updating my MacBook Pro to yeosemite I want my old desktop picture back. I did a full back up before the install. I found the "Settings" folder in Time machine but when I try to open it I get an error message saying "You can not open this folder. It is in TimeMachine".

Can you browse the Time Machine drive from Finder?
If you can and you know where the picture was stored ie on your desktop you can browse through the folder structure to the picture copy it and paste it somewhere on your new install before right clicking it and 'set as desktop background'

Generally, it's ok to install on two machines as long as they are both yours and you only use one version at a time.

If you restored as new, without using a backup, and still only get an option to restore, there is a hardware problem or the phone was previously hacked (jailbroken, downgraded iOS, unauthorized unlock).  Your only option is to take it to Apple or whoever provides iPhone service in your country.

Before I install CS4 (design standard) do I need to manually or otherwise remove CS1 (the original Creative Suite)?
I am using an iMac OS 10.5.8, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB, 800 MHz. AllI know is that you can't upgrade from CS1.
I am in the misdt of several production projects and can't afford a mistake or down time. Thanks for any and all help.
P.S. Is Snow Leopard compatiable with CS4?
    Thanks, Compositor Rick

You can upgrade from CS1 to CS4. CS1 will be out of the upgrade path when CS5 is released.
You don't need to remove CS1 it does not conflict with CS4. I have CS1 through CS4 installed and playing nicely together.
CS4 is compatible but  I would stay with 10.5.8 until Apple gets most of the bugs worked out of Snow Leopard. that is usually about the 4th update.

Wanting to use Photoshop CS6 to open images directly from iPhoto 11.
Using OSX10.8.2 and iPhoto 11.  Just installed Photoshop CS6 and want to open
images directly from iPhoto.    Before I installed PS I was not able to edit photos
in iPhoto 11.  Nothing happens when I click on ‘edit‘ it is blank.
And now it will not work using Photoshop CS6 either.
From Help Center I have gone to iPhoto/Preferences/ Advanced and chosen Photoshop CS6  to Edit Photos but then cannot find an 'Open' to click? Perhaps this is the problem?
When I select a photo in iPhoto and click the Edit button - nothing happens.
    Please advise. Glenys

This may be of help to you:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Do you have to create SPN before you install Sharepoint 2013 Server?

    Hello Community
After installing WS2012 and Sharepoint 2013 Server on it, I
created SPN's for the SQL Server and domain user.
While creating the web application I ran across some information
that says if you use Kerberos Authentication you have to setup the SPN's
in AD DS before you install Sharepoint 2013 Server.
That doesn't make sense to me because it might be possible that
SPN's may be needed to be created throughout the lifetime of the
Sharepoint farm which could be forever.
So the question is, is it true that you can only use Kerberos
Authentication if you created the SPN's in AD DS first?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

You can create it after-the-fact, you just may have access issues until it is created and the user account running the pool is logged off and back on again. Right, it has nothing to do with the installation status of SharePoint.

Try removing the current Reader using http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, then install 11.0.07 from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • The No.1 Best Tip For Anyone Installing Leopard

Reading through all the 'posts of woe' and nashing of teeth and ******** and, well you get the picture, one thing is coming to the front as the No.1 best thing to do before installing Leopard........BACK UP YOUR COMPUTER...down load superduper (for free) and do an 'all files' back up, then make sure you can boot off that external HDD and then attempt the install. Actually for good measure get another HDD and manually back up all your data, files and media so at least you have another back up just in case. Also have your tiger discs at hand in case of a massive meltdown.
Most folks seem to be ****** off here because they have lost everything on their computer, and that would be okay if it wasn't for the fact that apple clearly states that back ups should be made. The truth is we have been spoilt with OS that never crashes and is so easy to upgrade, that when something like this comes along we panic. Without getting into the whole "was it ready to be released" debate, the fact is its here and any problems that occur in the early days will be swiftly eliminated by the folks at apple
This is the coal face here folks, its dirty and you should be prepared to get a little beaten up! I reckon we'll be getting software updates every day or so for a while
I still haven't been able to install leopard and I'm a little peeved, but I'll sort it out, and in the meantime I'll thank my lucky stars I don't have a PC and that tiger is still working.
Keep the fate brothers and sisters

It will be interesting to see how this all sorts out. I did back up. However, I installed as an upgrade on 4 different computers. Mac Pro 2.66 intel, Mac Book Pro Intel, IMac 24" cor2duo extreme, and an IMac corduo 20". All installs went without a problem. I do hope Apple looks at this and tries to figure out why there is so much variation from one to another when the machines seem to be the same in many cases. I think that perhaps as do many other programs that Apple puts out, there is an "Apple is checking your computer for compatibility"screen before the install begins. That way any program that might be a problem could be addressed before install. Also some useful information as to the install process itself might be helpful in the package as well. I.E. that the blue screen might hang for a significant time as it checks the hard drive might reduce some of the anxiety many of us feel when it appears that things have hung when perhaps they have not. In any case I suspect things will shake out soon enough. I think Apple has to learn that there are many new customers old and young that need a little more help than just put the disc into your computer and let it go. Just my feelings on the matter since I was fortunate to have no problems.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try to launch Safari. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

A small update to this issue....
I have been trawling the forums to find an answer but to no avail...
And... I've tried exporting and bouncing individual stems and the full session, either by muting all bar the stem or soloing the stem.....and still nothing.
Same problems.....everything is audible in audition but nothing plays on playback.
Since the 'prelisten' channel strip is Solo safe this would indicate that you have a track or channel strip soloed somewhere else, out of sight. Are the Mute buttons on your channel strips blinking?
