Seemingly low volume for X-Fi Xtrememu

Today, the second time I booted up my computer I began to receive an interesting problem. My audio worked to some extent, but the volume was exceedingly low. I had to put my ear right next to the speakers to hear anything. I pulled out my headphones and plugged them in -- Same result, low volume. When I disabled the X-Fi and enabled my onboard audio, the volume was crystal clear and worked perfectly fine. I didn't change any software, drivers, hardware, or anything of that sort within the two reboots either.
I checked the obvious and made sure my volume was high in the X-Fi configuration panel, the windows panel, and my media players. Everything was maxed out. When I turned up my volume to the maximum on my speakers I could hear things better, but it was horribly distorted and sounded as if they were being over dri'ven. Normally I never have to increase the volume on the speakers much to hear anything, their usually on about 20-30% and I hear them perfectly fine.
I posted about this before on another site and It was recommended I try installing the latest drivers. So I decided to do an uninstall of the X-Fi drivers for good measure and, after rebooting, I installed the drivers and rebooted once more as it prompted me. The same exact result as before: sound that seems to have very low volume. After this, they recommended I try a different PCI slot as it may be damaged. I tried the other PCI slot and I had the same exact results as before. I did not want to install the card into the slot right next to my video card because it looked like the fan would be right up against the PCB of the X-Fi and that it might impede air flow and cause both cards to overheat.
Does anyone know what might be the problem? I'm using the latest drivers I saw (September 9th I believe) and the X-Fi has worked great for the past week and a half. I really don't want to have to own a $00 paperweight and revert to onboard audio.
Edit: If it helps any, I'm running on the following:
Asus A8N32 SLI Deluxe
AMD Opteron 70
X-Fi Xtrememusic
GeForce 7900 GT
If you need any other info, i'll post it.Message Edited by Sagekilla on 0-22-2006 2:9 PM

Bump.. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've made a list of all the fixes I've attempted
- Checked the volume in Creative's console, the Windows volume control in my tray bar, and in the Control Panel under "Audio and Sound devices"
- Made sure default device was the X-Fi
- Made sure the speakers was plugged in the right spot
- Made sure the speakers weren't faulty (I tested with a pair of head phones and on my iPod)
- Made sure I had the latest drivers
- Did the diagnostic, didn't help
- Did a system restore that made things worse
- Switched the PCI slot the sound card was in
- Tried onboard audio and found the audio there worked fine (I don't want onboard audio and a $00 paper weight though)
- Made sure onboard audio was uninstalled and disabled
- Posted on the creative labs forums and got no replies
- Safe Mode doesn't even recognize the Sound card
I'm pretty sure this isn't something stupid like "Is the volume turned up?"

  • Low volume with X-FI XtremeMu

I ordered the Vista CD from Creative, installed it, and the automatic updates were applied, well, automatically. Sadly, the volume of my X-FI XtremeMusic is very low compared to what I'd get on XP. I've reviewed the messages here, but I can't find the answer. Is there one?

Yup, same issue with the x-fi platinum, I have been using the youpax release to solve this issue. This would be an excellant find if it works for all the X-fi family, thats the only issue I have left to solve with this card.. let you know in a bit. Also, installed the latest patches for Vista tonight, didnt help the volume, but it MAY have helped with some of the odd choppiness, hard to tell .... Thanx for the info guys..The very next day ......
Yup, it works, and it works great, solved a lot of level/volume issues. Great find. And it works on many cl cards

  • SUCH LOW MUSIC PLAYER VOLUME FOR SUCH A COSTLY PHO...

I have recently bought an N95 8GB.Well the phone seems ok but I simply do not understand why the volume of the Music player in the headset is at such a low level?I also own an N91 8gb & comparing the music player quality, all of you here can understand the vast difference between them.I understand that N91 is a music player alright, but isnt the N95 8GB supposed to be a feature-rich multimedia phone (AS NOKIA ADVERTISES??).Such a bad music player volume for such a costly phone?

I'm not suggesting you to do anything
I was just trying to explain why the volume levels have been dropping. In some cases it may be that the same volume levels are set for devices globally.
I'm not sure if India has adopted the same recommendation for output audio pressure as in Europe, so I don't know if it's mandatory in India.
The EU recommendation is supposed to be in line with recommendations from health experts.
    SEE HERE:
    http://www.luxuryhousingtrends.com/archives/2007/10/noise_canceling.php
Exposure to high audio levels of more than 45 min. per day could result in temporary loss hearing to even permanent damage (depending on how loud the volume is). This is of course not new.
The best thing you could do to enjoy the music yet at the same time protect your ears is:
    a) Buy a set of active noise canceling headphones.
    b) Buy a set of in-ear headphones and use foam pads (like the Sure e2, e3, e5 series or other brands)
    c) Buy a set of protective headphones. The type construction workers use. Basically you put your Nokia headphones then you put the protective headgear on top of them. The protective headgear blocks the outside noise.
    http://www.precision-sports.com/peltor_elect.htm
Of course there are also drawbacks to blocking outside noise.
If you are walking you may not hear cars or other hazards. And you should never drive with headphones anyway, it's way too dangerous as you can't hear other cars, ambulances, etc.

My problem is that i can't turn up the volume for a low battery
Is there any one who knows how i can resolve it?
    thanx
    mariete

    Hi
I think you want to enable the sound notification when battery gets empty.
    Is it right?
Well, you can do this in Vista Power settings
I assume you are using the Vista OS and therefore this battery notification can be enabled in Vista Power settings.
    Please check this Toshiba doc.

  • FIX for low volume, sort of....

I finally broke down and called tech support last night about the low volume issues I was having. The music and videos are all loud enough and when using the headset and/or headphones but calls, speakerphone and voice mail are all very low even when turned all the way up. To listen to the VMails I had to hold the bottom of the phone near my ear.
When on the phone he told me to hold down the top button and the home key which I had done before but I always stopped when the slide to turn off appeared. He said to hold both down until the "apple logo" appeared. I did this twice.
I did this and my volume increased by about 10-15% for the calls, speaker phone and VMail increased about 25% same for the music and videos. I can now hear the Vmails comfortably holding the iPhone about 2' in front of me no more holding it to my ear. The music and videos are now so loud that I dont have to turn it up past about half way.
The volume for calls could still be a little louder as I still have it maxed out but that to is much better than before.
He also asked if I used a case and I said yes but it didnt block the speaker. He asked me to remove the case as the entire bottom piece of the iPhone is thinner and a different material and allows sound through "in a way". I thought he was crazy but I removed my case and viola another nice volume increase for the VM, speakerphone, music and videos.

Thanks, pool_shark and Tidbits.  I guess I'll have to wait for the 4.03 update.  I keep my volume at maximum.  I had a Plantronics bluetooth when I got the phone, have since purchased a Jawbone, a newer Plantronics, and a Blue Ant.  Have returned the first two and will return the Blue Ant if I don't get the update before the return period is over.  This is really frustrating, but at least it's good to know Google is working on a fix.

  • Any fix for Jam Pack 4 low volume loops?

I'm using Jam Pack 4 with Garage Band 2. I find that very many of the orchestral loops are recorded at such a low volume they are unusable. Even when placed into a Garage Band track and volume pushed to the "max" they are still not loud enough to balance with other tracks, making them useless. I went to the download area and thought there was a fix [Jam Pack 4 V 1.0.1]. The download would not install, saying "There is nothing to install." Frustrated. Any suggestions? I searched the forum topics and haven't this problem. Is it just me?

  • Guitar audio drop-out at lower volumes

I have tried out mainstage on a friends macbook pro, to check if it will be worth an investment into Logic over Garageband, mainly as an effects emulator for my guitar so I don't need to worry about amps in my small flat.   I connected through an Edirol UA-5 USB audio interface and while there were some issues with this interface anyway due to the fact I could only use input-1 rather than the Hi-Z Input-2 that I should use, I wanted to check some audio problems I had and see how to fix them.
Basically, at full volume on my guitar it seems to work fine, but as soon as I turn the guitar volume knob down there is literally no sustain anymore, I can hear a brief note and then it just cuts out, no gradual loss just stops.   If I only plug the interface in without mainstage then the monitor channel gives me the full volume control I expect and I tried my guitar on a proper external amp and it seemes to be fine so i've eliminated my guitar as the problem.
Anyone experienced this or have any suggestions to try to get it to work.
Also, if I use garage band I don't hear the output fromt he amp/effects simulators, only raw guitar and I only hear the final version if I record it and then play it back.  Is there a way to get Garage band to act as a amp/fx simulator in a live mode like mainstage does or is the fact mainstage is playing back through the interface what might be causing the problems in some feedback loop??   Beginning to think an iRig would have been a better option......

    Hi
Sounds like you may have a Noise Gate in there somewhere?
    CCT
yeah I thought of that but couldn't see anything, and think my knowledge of what a noise gate would do is slightly rusty since I assumed that at louder volumes it would clip and at lower volumes it would be fine....i'll have a play next time I am over my friends and see if I can spot anything.

  • Computer freezes, then a low-volume, high pitch sound

    Hello there,
My trusty 2002 MDD is randomly freezing on me for the 1st time! Disk Warrior nor Disk Utility form external boot-ups detect anything wrong. Thus, it doesn't seem to be a hard drive issue. Memory status on System Profiler checks OK.
Once the beach ball appears I can't do anything but press the power button to shut it down. I've noticed that while frozen a very low-volume, high pitch sound can be heard. ???
Thanks a lot for any feedback that you may provide,
    Jacobo

    Hatter,
Thanks for the prompt reply. Like you proposed, I've started from my FW drive (not after a freeze though) and everything drive-related checks OK.
Yes, my video card (Radeon 9800) does have a fan. I've though about this and the PSU as well. The latter is the quieter, less powerful one.
My drives are less than a year old and seem to be OK.
I’ve run Applejack (w/ memory check) and all is good.
Can the Apple Diagnostic CD pinpoint any of these issues?
My MDD has been incredible when it comes to reliability. She has not given me ANY problems whatsoever while stressed to its limits.
    Thanks again for your time,
    Jacobo

  • Low volume issue, no answers?

Hi, I have an old AX, perhaps 2004, or 2003 that can only stream tunes at very low volume out of the minijack to rca output.  Consequently I have to turn the volume of my amp way up, and it is distorted, so is unlistenable.  It is also dangerous because if I change an input on the amp, I could blow my speakers.
I see alot of talk with no fix on this from the 2007-2008 timeframe, but no answers.
I have rebooted the unit, changed cables and no luck.
I may have had this problem for some time, but as I was using the optical connection, I did not notice it.
Could it be that the unit is just too old to be reliable? It seems to be working as far as the utility set up is concerned.
Thanks for any help in advance!

Forgot to mention that I have all the available volume options at max.

  • Hi. I Have a Pavilion dv9000 which has always had very low volume - really needs to be increased?

Hi. I Have a Pavilion dv9000 with Vista Ultimate 64.  It has always had very low volume and I find I generally have to have the volume up into the 70's 80's as well as the onscreen media player slider almost full -  which then gets all distorted - and then have to turn it down again when not using the player as the computer error beeps come screaming out., Ive checked the settings on speakers to make sure all are the same & balanced and also have updated any codecs as needed. Is there a sound lever setting elsewhere?
    cheers

Thanks for the reply and peeling my post off Mike, sorry I didn't start my own initially.
Well @ 1333Mhz I was using the rated timings 9-9-9-24 (as per Corsair) but it wasn't very stable as I said.
I have since changed the FSB/RAM ratio to get 1066Mhz and it seemed much happier. (@1.5v) It would be nice to run the RAM at it's rated setting but my OC skills aren't that extensive. I imagine it would need alot of tweeking? Or could I have just relaxed the timings a bit?
Would removing the Switch Cards make any difference?
    Thanks in advance.

  • M-Audio Profire/AKG mic... LOW volume! Power issues?

Hey guys, desperately need some help here. So I've got an M-Audio Profire 610 interface, using an AKG Perception 200 condenser mic. I am having issues with REALLY LOW VOLUME! And I'm pretty positive I have everything setup correctly. XLR to XLR mic cable(I threw out my old one and bought a brand new one, still didn't solve the problem). I've got phantom power on and the profire is connected via firewire 400. All drivers and software are up-to-date. Got the latest OSX, running all of this on a relatively new imac.
I have no idea why the AKG mic won't pick up sounds nearly as loud as it should. I have the gain up on the Profire up at 90% which is sufficient enough but the recordings are muffly and not as crisp as they used to be. Once upon a time I used this same mic with a Powerbook G4 and M-Audio Mobile Pre, and the mic worked AMAZINGLY in both Garageband and Logic Express, it picked up EVERYTHING and I never needed to put the gain on the Mobile Pre past 40%--it was a super sensitive mic. One day out of nowhere, however, the gain volume became ridiculously low and I had to max everything out on the Mobile Pre and Garageband/Logic, but it sounded like crap. No hiss and not too much distortion, just LOW volume. The mic was hardly used and I'm having a hard time believing the mic is the problem, just because I only used it a handful of times before the gain crapped out on me. The strong sensitivity came on and off a couple times after that, but the volume is now low all the time. The only other mic I've tried to use with the Profire is an SM57. It works, but really low gain. Guitars and keys have worked perfectly fine, no gain problems.
I thought the original problem back in the day was my Mobile Pre, so I bought the Profire. Now I'm still having the same problem with ultra low volume. My mic used to pick up sounds from another room or even cars driving outside my window, and now I have to sing RIGHT into it for anything to even be audible. What the **** happened to my crisp/loud sounds? Is it possible that I'm not getting enough power? Would running the Profire via firewire 800 help at all? I'm going crazy here, I have no idea why my mic totally blows now. I guess at this point it seems like the mic could be the problem, but I'm scared of buying a new condenser mic and having the SAME problem all over again.
What do you guys think? Power problems, the mic itself, wrong setup? All I want to do is pin point this thing, any help at all would seriously be appreciated!

Since you've already swapped cables, I would guess it's either the mic or the interface. Since you've already swapped interfaces, logically I would guess it's the mic.
Can you bring the mic to a music store or some other place where you could plug it into another interface or mixing board and see if it also doesn't work there? That would clinch it.

  • Sound is very low volume

I've done a search but can't seem to find any info re the sound volume on my bw G3. The sound out of both the front, built in speaker, and through the headphones, is very low volume output, almost but not quite muted. I've searched and adjusted the controls but to no avail. Could this be a hardware problem or software? There 'is' some movement when I adjust the volume slider but it takes the level from what would normally be 2 of 10 down to nothing. That is, there is no way for me to get the sound to levels that within normal limits. It's like the output is being blocked somehow but is still leaking through enough for me to make out the particular sound (song in this case) that I'm listening to.
Any help would be appreciated. It might not be worth puttiing any money into and I'd like to at least try.
    Michael

    Michael,
Sounds like you are ahead of the game on testing with headphones. External speakers would not make much of a difference without an amplifier.
"(is there another place to check sound output?)" If you had an AV output you could test sound out of that card. Finding a card might be cheaper than any repair bill and give you a definative answer on if their is a system software level problem.

  • Audio playback is clipped and has low volume

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me debug my audio problems.
The problem is that audio playback is clipped and has low volume.
The details of my setup are as follows:
    - An onboard soundcard (ASUS M4A78LT-M-LE motherboard), identified as Intel HDA in dmesg:
    description: Audio device
    product: SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
    vendor: ATI Technologies Inc
    physical id: 14.2
    bus info: pci@0000:00:14.2
    version: 00
    width: 64 bits
    clock: 33MHz
    capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list
    configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=64
    resources: irq:16 memory:f9ff4000-f9ff7fff
    - ALSA (snd_hda_intel driver) and Pulseaudio
My ALSA mixer settings (which were used in the recording shown in this post) are at pastebin.
The mixer settings were chosen so that all "dB gain" is 0.00 for all columns in alsamixer.
Recording an MP3 (played at full volume) from the Stereo Mixer source in audacity I gives output which looks clipped and has low volume (link).
This occurs with any MP3 and any other sound source (Youtube in Chromium, etc.)
The problem does not occur when I boot into Windows XP, so it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem.
I'm also attaching a screenshot of my alsamixer playback screen for the soundcard (link)
    Thanks for any assistance!

    Hi,
I have the same problem since December 2011 with a similar Mainboard (Asus M4A78T-E).
