Seems as if pitch correction won't disable

I recorded a vocal track and a  guitar track both using my apogee MiC and then played with pitch correction to see what it sounded like. Now when I turn pitch correction off, both tracks still seem to have some level of pitch correction to them which is giving a distorted sound to the strums of the guitar. Also, when I try to re-record, both on the vocal track and the guitar track, with pitch correction off there is that slight delay in the track monitor that you get with pitch correction and the distortion of the guitar. Don't know what to do but it didn't make me happy. Hope I can get both tracks back to their original state

Yes, it sounds like a nice solution, but I've tried this more than once, and I can only get iTunes to open once when my computer starts up, and after that, nothing. Then I have to go back through the clean uninstallation again before it will work.
So unfortunately, the problem is not fixed.

  • PS downloaded via CC seemed to download fine but won't work. Won't even open a file/document.

I recently got a new computer and I have CC so I downloaded the CC app and downloaded LR and PS. LR runs/works fine. PS seemed to download ok but won't even open a new file:picture. I am very frustrated as I have spoken with CC tech support and they were of no help, in fact that didn't even have a clue how to navigate Windows 8! I have been working on this for a week and now very behind on my editing. Not sure who to call or what to do. Please help!! Thank you!!!

What does the crash report say about the name of the faulting module?
Yes, crashes like that are usually due to the video card driver. (though I was guessing from the original description that the image was just not drawing)
Have you tried disabling GPU drawing in Photoshop before opening a document?
Have you updated your video card driver from the GPU maker's website?

  • Manual Pitch Correction - Track Reference Needed

In Edit View/Effects/Pitch Correction - Manual tab there is no reference for the pitch.
What I mean is if you are pitch correcting a vocal it would be nice to select another track that you have recorded (say a piano or guitar) which you could have playing as well as a reference. Possibly even a volume control to turn the backing up or down while previewing.
This would be a real productive addition.

    > I have a hard time working in the manual area because it is difficult to know exactly where you are - meaning, the cursor does not seem to correspond to what you are hearing
I had dismissed this statment too readily thinking what's jon on about its blatantly obvious what's going on
That was until the EXACT same thing suddenly happened to me DOH!
After uninstalling new vsts defraging drives and everything short of kicking the dog I discovered the solution!!
Somehow (and don't ask me how cause I never access the screen) the 'Enable Preroll and Postroll Preview' was ticked in the 'automatic' tab of the Pitch Correction effect
Untick it and manual correction now becomes obvious where you are - ie the cursor now corresponds to what you are hearing.
    WooHoo :-)

  • How is pitch correction in X working? Can i scrap Melodyne?

Having problems with Melodyne since i upgraded MacBook.  Download worked but can't seem to get licenses to transfer.
Anyone try the new Pitch correction in Logic X. I'm getting ready to switch to X from 9.    If possible i'd like to start weening myself from 3rd party software (especially Waves) and just work in Logic environment.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I've never owned Melodyne myself, although I've been around on projects where it has been used. Seemed ok for the fixes we needed.
Logic's new(ish) flex pitch features leave a lot to be desired, in my opinion. When enabled on, say, a vocal track, it immediately destroys and chews up the entire track's sibilances and breaths i.e. predominantly the 'unvoiced' aspects of the sound. That's before you've even made any specific edits..!
If I absolutely HAVE to fix some tuning in a vocal track, I make a copy of the channel and drop only the exact sections of audio that require any attention onto the duplicate channel, and do my flex-pitch editing on there.
I haven't really tried it on anything other than vocals, so can't comment on how usable it might be on other sounds. I'd guess there might me similar problems on sounds that have more breathy or sibilant tones, e.g. Saxophones. But... when do saxophonists ever play out of tune...?
The interface is pretty easy and quite powerful, but it can't, for example, change a note within a chord on a guitar track, as I've seen is possible in Melodyne.
    Just my experience.
    Cheers,
    Bryan.

  • Bypass pitch correction in automation

    Hi,
Can anyone help with automating the pitch correction to bypass for a measure? I have automation set using root note, but I need to bypass sometimes and can't seem to switch it out of root note in a specific spot and turn it back on later. When I change to bypass, the whole track gets bypassed.
    Thanks for any help!

The easiest way to assign any automation parameter (especially when you don't know what it might be called in the list) is to set the automation mode to "touch or latch", hit play, and toggle the desired button/knob.

  • Pitch Correction - Vocal Adjustment

    Greetings Guys
Is there any GREAT way to modify a vocal track easily and quickly to make the vocal line pristine and in key? This is of course, creating your original Garage band file without knowing what the original key of the song was in?
Any help or ideas on plugins and what not (such as in Logic Pro 7) would be most helpful.
    Cheers
    Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo - 17", 2.33GHz, 2GB Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Parallel's with XP Pro SP 2

Interesting as I've tried the pitch correction and it doesn't seem to do very much until a point when it changes the voice like the Cher song.
Similarly I've never been able to get the time correction to do anything meaningful except to put out the timing even more .
Is there some trick I'm missing?
    Cheers

  • Pitch correction plugin

has anyone had any success with Logic's pitch correction plugin on vocals? It seems to be correcting to the wrong note and when I bypass these wrong notes on the plugin's keyboard, the notes still end up going there. I've read the manual and done everything it says but in the real world it just doesn't seem to work like the manual describes. any help would be much appreciated.

I find that the Pitch Corrector in Logic is fine for many things: fretless bass, slide guitar, backing vox etc. I think that it´s a bit of a shame that they did not implement one important aspect of the original, namely the parameter that controls how much (pitchwise) you want to adjust a note.
I have a feeling this function will appear in the not so distant future.
I usually use the Pitch Corrector by applying it all over the place - but automating the response time it so that it kicks in from real slow to fast when needed. Works ok. But Autotune or Melodyne are of course the Masters of this Domain.

  • Use of Pitch Reference graph during Pitch Correction

Hope somebody can help me understand the function of the Pitch Reference graph when using manual pitch correction.  It doesn't seem to correctly follow the actual audio waveform.  For instance when I'm trying to correct a long-held vocal note that has gone off key at the end, the graph drops down to nothing far before the note ends, so I'm just guessing at where to put control points on the waveform and how far to correct them.  I don't understand exactly all of the abrupt ups and downs of the graph.  Is it level sensitive or something?  Is it adjustable or rescalable?  Thanks.

IMO the manual pitch correction tool is one of the most valuable and probably underused tool in the AA arsenal.
It gets significant use here in my studio and the results that can be achieved are nothing short of miraculous.
Before anyone starts going on about 'keep music live' or 'its all about the performance' or whatever, here its all about making the client sound as good as possible - yes even if they shouldn't even be standing in front of a mic.  Why? Because thats what they are paying for.
From my experience the graph is nothing more than a guide and it relates more to pitch than the actual wave shape itself.
    "Is it adjustable or rescalable?"
Only the view height is adjustable.
Unfortunately the best results require a good 'ear' for pitch and it is awkward as there is no way of selecting one of the other tracks in the multitrack (like a guitar track) to play at the same time in order to better judge the pitch that you are correcting. (I have requested this as a feature!)
So in the absence of said 'guide' track (and as you probably already know) you may have to switch back and forth to check your results - sorry I can't offer more.
Here is something I prepared earlier for another reason :-)

  • Pitch Correction Plugin Questions

How well does the Pitch Correction plugin that comes with LE8 work on transforming voices - primarily male to female? The GarageBand Vocal Transformer effect creates a great deal of warble - which makes if fairly unusable.
Also, how does the LE8 differ from the Logic Studio Pitch Shifter II and its Vocal Transformer tool?
I am developing an animated film, and would like to create the voices myself, if possible, using software enhancements. Also, if anyone knows of other software solutions for this technique, I would greatly appreciate the information.
Thanks in advance for posting your responses.

    Nicholas,
Although I haven't really tried the Pitch Correction in LE8 yet, I don't think it's ideal for creating different voices. You'd be better off with [Melodyne|http://www.celemony.com/cms>. It is available in several versions and will allow you to not only change pitches but also formants, which will really help you change your voice to sound like different people or even a woman, child, or a chipmunk.
Download a free demo and give it a try.

  • There is no pitch correction in the track editor

I recently upgraded to the newest garageband and everything is great except that when i go to use the track editor and click on the trach panel there are no controls just a blank panel where the pitch correction or 'limit to key' options should be. Can anyone help?

In GarageBand 10.0 the "Limit to Key" and "Pitch Correction" are in the Track Editor, when you select the "Track" tab and not the "region" tab:

  • Seems to capture but then won't quit after ESC pressed?

We have new XRAID with Apple FC interface & running on Mac G5 and 10.3.9. We use FinalCutPro 4.5 and it all seems to capture but then won't quit after ESC pressed. The pinwheel spins and the Mac is unaccessible then after maybe 3 hours it finishes and everythings ok. Way too much time for a 15 minute capture! Aja Kona2 capture card and they have had me adjust the settings in the xraid admin but no change. Capture of a few seconds are usually finalized instantly. Any Clues?

Same problem if you don't choose capture now ?? I've always though capture now to the raid was a BIG NO NO.

  • Pitch Correction plugin and Software Monitoring

Okay guys...When ever I use the pitch correction plugin...I get a great deal of latency even when i change my buffer...this doesnt sound normal, because when I had the demo of Autotune...this never happens. When I am singing...I cant stack because of this. Also, when I click low latency mode (which i shouldnt have to) i don't hear the software monitoring(the effects of the PitchCorr)...help! i dont know what to do.... this is bad because i cant properly execute what I normally used to do with the autotune...might I add though, Pitch correction sounds alot more natural than autotune!!! sounds great! so excited to be able to use it properly!!! I was ready to purchase AT, but I dont want to anymore!!!

and beejay dont act like its uncommon for singers to use it while tracking.
In my experience, it's incredibly uncommon to use the software Autotune *while tracking*.
For exactly the reasons I described (and others).
Auto Tune doesnt have this problem...Logics autotune does...
Auto Tune absolutely has latency. It's how pitch detection works.
    From the AutoTune manual:
"In order for Auto-Tune to automatically correct pitch, it must also detect the
pitch of the input sound. It's easy for you to calculate the pitch of a periodic
waveform: Simply measure the time between repetitions of the waveform.
Divide this time into one, and you have the frequency in Hertz.
Auto-Tune does the same thing: It looks for a periodically repeating waveform
and calculates the time interval between repetitions.
The pitch detection algorithm in Auto-Tune is virtually instantaneous. Like
your eye-ball, it can see the repetition in a periodic sound within a few
cycles. This usually occurs before the sound has suffcient amplitude to be
heard. Used in combination with a slight delay (about 1 to 10 milliseconds),
the output pitch can be detected and corrected without artifacts in a seamless
    and continuous fashion."
So you are always going to get some milliseconds of latency. Whether AutoTune is faster than Logic's I don't know and don't really care. This only matters if you are using software monitoring while tracking, and if you are doing this then you are also adding additional delays on the signal because of the round-trip buffer sizes and so on anyway.
What you are actually saying is that for you, the latency you get tracking through AutoTune is acceptable, and it is not acceptable when using Logic's pitch correction.
In that case, either don't track through pitch detection, or buy AutoTune...

  • Pitch Correction

Does anyone have any recommendations for a native pitch correction program that works in Logic. Time and pitch machine isn't making it.

I've used the pitch correction plug in Logic. It's ok if the source you're using it on isn't too bad but Melodyne is much better. You can actually use it as a creation tool to do practically anything you like to audio.
They have 3 versions: Uno, which handles 1 audio track at a time, Cre8, which handles 8 audio tracks at a time, and Studio which handles unlimited tracks and also allows you to pitchshift or timeshift whole stereo mixes without any artifacts.
Go to their site and check out the audio/video examples.

  • Pitch Correction doesn't hold my changes

I tried using the pitch correction on a couple of spots...got the tool to give me a complete flat line on a G note and saved my changes...went back to the song, but it still didn't sound quite right...went back to the same part that I corrected and noticed that the flat line I created was no longer straight across...the line was jagged and had to be "re-aligned".
Has anyone else had this happen?

I'm assuming that you are using the manual mode
"got the tool to give me a complete flat line on a G note and saved my changes"
As this is a destructive action then the change has been applied once you press 'OK'
"went back to the same part that I corrected and noticed that the flat line I created was no longer straight across"
Here I'm not sure what you mean - do you mean that with several points you created a flat line - ie litrerally a straight line?
or do you mean that you changed the audio to sing at a constant pitch?
Either way the points become meaningless once the effect has been applied as the points would then be referencing a different sounding piece of audio
Am I not understanding the problem?
Not sure if this helps but this is a bit of a tutorial we slapped together a while back
