Seems like a new modified url hack is back to reset passwords

Was doing some studies.
http://www.macrumors.com/2013/03/22/apple-id-security-hole-allows-password-reset -with-email-address-and-date-of-birth/
Seems this situation is back. For the past couple months, my recovery email kept getting the message about how to reset your password. Thing is, I never requested it, nor did anyone get into my email address, since if a new device tries, I get a text message confirmation. So.. now then, skip to today. I get that apple thing again, and then later my main email gets a notice that 2 apps were downloaded (Free ones at least) So thats when I learned apple added a 2 step verification etc.. so I just enabled those and changed everything out and called in to verify nothing else bad happened.
So yea, reading the above link.. seems to suggest a way has been found again to change a password and gain access without actually getting into an email account to process it.

There are many ways for people to hack an account that don't involve a vulnerability like the old one described in that article. (In other words, there's no reason whatsoever to believe that another similar vulnerability exists.)
You could be using an easily-guessed password that falls to a brute-force attack by a botnet. Someone targeting your account specifically may be able to guess the password after doing some "cyber-stalking" (reading publicly-available information about you on Facebook, Twitter, etc). You could fall for a phishing scam and give away your password willingly to an attacker. Someone could surreptitiously look over your shoulder while you type the password. If you're using Windows (much less likely on a Mac, though still technically possible, and not possible on iOS), you could have malware capturing your keystrokes.
This is why it's important to use strong passwords, and to use a password manager to avoid having to enter passwords manually. And to be vigilant about making sure you don't get infected with anything.

  • It doesn't seem like my new macbook pro has a battery

    I got my new MacBook Pro 13-inch LED-backit widescreen notebook about a week ago. The first time i tried it, I plugged the Power Adapter in the whole time i used it. The next morning i tried using it, but this time i didn't have it plugged in. It wouldn't turn on. So, i plugged it in and then it worked fine. I searched for the problem and then i noticed that on the top right corner, the battery sign had an X on it. I clicked it and it said "No Batteries Available | Power Source: Power Adapter". i did a little experiment. i plugged off the Power Adapter during the middle of me using it and it completely shut down. I figured that it didn't come with a battery when i bought it. Is this normal and do i have to buy the battery seperately?

    Absolutely not normal - check one more thing:
    Go to the Apple in the menu bar and click on About this Mac, then on more info. Click on System Report. In the resulting window, click on Power and see what is listed there (hopefully the battery) - post the results here. If there is something wrong with the battery, call Apple - you have 90 day phone support (and a year hardware warranty) and/or book an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar.
    FWIW, the new laptops have batteries built in (not accessible by user).

  • HT4623 Have a new iphone 5 and trying to transfer info from old iphone. Seems like the new phone is stuck on the choose backup page and I cant seem to get it to move. Help!?

    Have a new Iphone and trying to set up. Got to the page choose back up and both old phone and ipad are showing but cant select either and its just sitting there. what should i be doing?

    You can transfer the purchases you made on your old iPhone 3 by plugging it in to iTunes and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases from your IPhone to the iTunes on your computer.  This will get music you purchased in iTunes, apps, etc.  (e.g., movies).
    But for the rest you would need to restore a backup of your newly deceased computer.

  • Is there more people out there who like me didn't like the new FF 4 and went back and reinstalled FF 3.6?

    I updated to the new Firefox 4 but did not like it.
    The Go Back button didn't work at times. No advanced drop-down button to go back, say 10 pages.
    Tabs moved up which I didn't like either. in the end i just went back and reinstalled Firefox 3.6.
    So, I was wondering is it just me or are there a lot more who feel the same way.

  • My apple ID was hacked.  Trying to reset password but the email never reached my account.  Trying to answer security questions, the birthday was changed.  I am really miserable.  Can anyone shed some light, please?

    My gmail email is my apple ID.  I found I lost access of gmail last night and I reset the password before bed.  But this morning the password was changed again.  My ipad also requested a password that didn't match to the one I used.  I have reset my gmail once more.  In addition, I added 2-step verification.  But I have not received any new mail up to now.  I tried to reset my apple ID.  When I selected sending an email for resetting, the mail was sent but never reached my mailbox;  When I selected answering security questions: the birthday was wrong.  It's been changed.  I am SO SO UPSET.  Can any genius take pity on me and show me some guidance, please?

    You should get Apple involved in sorting this out. Start at this site:

    Your Apple ID can be handled through iTunes.

  • PrintWriter Solution to Flushing (seems like a hack tho)

    All,
    I have been trying to write a XSS filter. The filtering was the easy part. For some reason, when I overload getWriter() in HttpServletResponseWrapper and return my own writer, the final buffer is not being flushed.
    Here is what I have experienced. The following line of code was my first attempt:
    return new PrintWriter(new XssPreventOutputStream(out));Nada. When I place debug statements in my output stream (which extends ServletOutputStream), the final buffer is never even passed to write(byte[], int, int). So, I extended PrintWriter and overloaded the following:
    public void write(char[] buffer, int offset, int length) {
       super.write(buffer, offset, length);
       super.flush();  // Why do I have to do this?  This is what smells funny to me
    }Placing an additional call to flush() in close() does nothing. I seem to have to flush() on every write(char[], int, int) in my overloaded PrintWriter. Am I doing something wrong? BTW, the custom output stream I wrote does nothing (yet):
    public final void write(final byte[] buffer, final int offset, final int length)
              throws IOException {
              System.err.println("DEBUG >>> write(byte[] int, int) : \r\n" + new String(buffer, offset, length));
              out.write(buffer, offset, length);
         }I'm sure there is something so obviously simple it is completely escaping me right now. I just feel that issuing flush() after every write(char[], int, int) is a hack.
    Thanks!
    - Saish

    Thanks for the replies. If I overload close() and place debugging statements in there, it is being called. I am overloading the PrintWriter returned by ServletResponse#getPrintWriter(). So, I do not really have explicit control (nor do I think I should) when Struts is being used.
    Another oddity, not sure if it will help, but I do see debugging messages that flush() is also being called, to no effect unless I place the flush in write(char[], int, int), which to me seems like a mistake. (Sorry if this is too vague).

  • Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original location - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it

    Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original locations - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it - also, when transferring large amounts of files it becomes a very large problem remembering which files were transferred and which not.

    You're going to need to be more specific, as I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about.
    If you're referring to copying from an external hard drive or flash drive, and you want to actually move files rather than copy them, you can hold down the option key to force it to do a "move" rather than a "copy." This is not new behavior, though... the Mac OS has worked this way as long as I can recall (and I've been using it since 1984).
    If you're having a problem with trying to move files from one place to another on a single drive causing them to be copied instead, that is likely because of some permissions issue preventing you from actually being able to move them.

    You made a purchase and exhausted the credit on your card before it processed. All purchases are final. Contact iTunes Store support. You need to settle up before you can purchase or download anything else.

  • HT3702 Hi there, can somebody help me in showing me how to reset my credit card information on iTunes Store as I have the credit card and it seems like the system doesn't accept my new card.

    Good day, can someone show how to update a new credit card on iTunes Store as I have changed my credit card. It seems like the system doesn't accept the new infos but when investigated with apple store staff members, they said I had a previous purchase to complete for the payment in order to update my new infos. Does Apple have authorization credit card form? So that I can authorize them to finalize the previous purchase payment with a new card.

    You may want to try gift cards as an alternative.

    I am trying to do a full Time Machine Backup to a new external disk. The backup starts, and it says "Time remaining about 4 days." That seems like a very long time, but the real problem is that the computer "logs off" after a few hours, and the backup stops. The system preferences are set to "Never" for Computer sleep and Display sleep. The computer does not ordinarily log off automatically, but it has done this twice since I started the Time Machine backup.

    If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
    If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the search box.
    If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
    When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting.

    If you've had it for less than a year, then it's still under warranty.  Take it to an Apple store or an authorized service facility.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434
