Seems to feel kind of slow, or is it just me?

I just noticed that my late 2008 2.4ghz umbp (stock) is kind of slow. For example, safari used to load up less than a second. Now it takes about two to four bounces. Then, it will take 1 second to start up. On Firefox, it usually takes 5 to 6 bounces to start up as well. Could there be alot going on through my activity monitor?
Or is it normal to see that all macs tend to get slower after much use is done?

Generally speaking, as your computer ages, and files add up, log files, cache, etc., some things will slow your computer down. I use an app called Cocktail, which will let you clean out a lot of that stuff safely, and can speed up your computer. Repair permissions after installation of any app as well. This is often when weird stuff happens.
Also, here's what you can do to speed up your computer, it's second best to a clean install. If you have an external drive, use a program, such as SuperDuper! and clone your drive. Then boot from the cloned drive. Then erase your internal drive. Then copy your clone using SuperDuper! back to your internal. Now you'll have a fresh start, hopefully getting rid of any slowdown.
It's always a good idea to have two (working) backup copies of your data should anything happen to either the internal or external data.

  • Early macbook pro 2008 kind of slow. or is it just me?

Hi. My macbook pro is the early 2008, stock version. When I purchased the laptop on february, I could have sworn that when I started up safari, scroll down the page, it wouldn't skip. a couple of months later until now, every time i load up safari and scroll down the page, it kind of bounces. Sometimes when I turn on my mac I get that rolling colored wheel but for a couple of seconds. But this is what I did
I did an erase and install, and got the computer running like how I first got it. But when I start up the mac, load safari, I still get that bounce when I scroll down the page.
ALSO, when I scroll through the applications in my applications folder, I get that awkard bouncy feeling whenever I start the mac.
Guys, is it just me or is it completely normal?

What i'm wondering is, isn't my mac suppose to be fast after I do a reformat?
Like how I mentioned before, I did an erase and install and I just realized that the only problem I am having is with safari. What is kind of annoying me, is that whenever I start up my mac, and click on safari right away, and scroll down apple's main page (using the two finger feature) it starts to hiccup but only for a couple of seconds. I just want to know if it is very common.
I started to notice this problem because when I first bought my macbook pro (early 2008), and click safari right away, the page used to scroll down fast.
What is the problem here? Does anyone have the same problem with safari as well?

I have same Problem. I tried all options - Reset All Settings, Erase Content & reset all settings, Upgrated to IOS8.1, Restore using iTune. But problem persists.
When I turn Cellular Data or Wifi ON, then there is a lag while opening the Apps. But If I turn Data/Wifi off, phone becomes super fast. I have checked with my friends. They are not facing this issue. Not sure if Apple know this.

Have you tried resetting your PRAM?
    Shut the Mac down.
Holding the Cmd+Opt+P+R keys, press the power button.
Listen for the "startup chime" to sound three times and release the keys.
It should run better after it finishes booting up.

  • I dropped my macbook pro off my couch and when it landed it was shut, i opened it and it was on a grey sceen so i shut it down with the button and when i turned it back on it was kind of slow but not anymore i just want to know if i should be worried

i dropped my macbook pro off my couch and when it landed it was shut, i opened it and it was on a grey sceen so i shut it down with the button and when i turned it back on it was kind of slow but not so much anymore. i quit all of my applications before i shut down and i noticed that when there are no more things t quit and i click "hide finder" its not grey anymore it still gives me the option to hide it when i dont need to, little things bug me and i just got this laptop, i just want to know if i should be worried

I suggest you immediately make a backup of your data. You don't know if or when the computer will show some symptoms from the drop. You may want to, for piece of mind, take the computer to an authorised service center for assessment. No one here can assess any internal damage you may have done.

Periodically delete all apps from the recently-used bar (double clickHome button) and power off and then back on the iPod. With iOS 5, the iPod uses more memory (do not confuse with storage) and periodically you have to reclaim memory for use.

  • Slow response using internet, just hangs

Not the best at IT and just clicked update when it came up as available without realising what I was doing!  Turns out it was an upgrade to os x 10.9.4.  Since then the laptop has been practically unusable particularily when it comes to safari, it is either really slow getting to a particular page or just doesnt do anything, no matter how long you wait.  Restarting doesnt seem to help, reload view fails as well.  Its strange as sometimes its ok for 10 minutes then starts doing this.  I know this is bad but I have never backed the laptop up so cant restore to previous version.  I am currently looking into which external hard drive to buy so I can start doing regular back ups.  I have run EtreCheck in the hope somebody can help!!  Results below

  • Latest update of Firefox is REALLLLLY slow. Is it just all the extra functionality that has been added or is there a button I need to press to make it the same speed as it use to be. Can I downgrade to last version?

Latest update of Firefox is REALLY slow. Is it just all the extra functionality that has been added or is there a button I need to press to make it the same speed as it use to be? I'll have to start usin safari again as this isn't funny anymore
Can i retro grade back to the last version?

uninstalled firefox ....deleted all files still remaining under mozilla firefox directory in program files ... to avoid having to reprogram all my settings, reisntall all addons as well .. I did not remove anything from mozilla firefox that is stored in either appdata or under the windows users directory (if any)
... the as suggested reinstalled the latest version of the firefox browser using the link you provided in the email ..; tested and several issues still remain present and unresolved ....
so please this is urgent or I will have to jump browsers and start using chrome .. because we work 14 hours a day 6 (sometimes 7) days a week, to get ready for the launch of our newest venture and we cannot lose that much days on browser related issues ... so please instead of putting me through week long step process .. of do this .. do that .. can you please actually look into the issue from your end .. I use firefox for so many, many years thta I deserve this kind of support .. thnx Robert

I've run diagnostics. Can't find device. I've tried resetting. The toggle has been turned on and off.

Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(

Doing the following wouldn't hurt either:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.

What  iMac is it and what version of OS X are you running?
    Try an SMC reset: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3603
If that doesn't help, try a Safe Boot: restart holding down the Shift key until you see a grey progress bar - you'll need to input your admin password during boot-up - and once booted, restart as normal from the Apple menu.

  • My New Mac 3.0 Quad Seems Kind Of Slow

    Hi Everyone,
I've just upgraded from my Mac G5 Dual 2.7 (which I loved) to a new MacPro 3.0 Quad. I'm not finding that the newer machine is any faster (although I have not tested it yet). In fact, Ive even gotten an Audio Engine Dropout error when running Logic on the same songs that ran fine before. Any comments or suggestions? Thanks

Using Migration Assistant to install PPC programs is the most often cause. Did you upgrade or BTO with more than the stock 1GB RAM which would be very "limiting".
Some tests others have done - but there is also more overhead in some apps that try to use more cores, but have to shuffle code and data between cores which is inefficient.
    Take a look at today's
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com
    http://www.barefeats.com
If you weren't finding the 2.7DP to be slow or limiting, there are applications that will excel with Mac Pro, fewer yet that fully benefit from 8-cores. But running concurrently, yes.
You need to have 4GB in 4 x 1GB with 2GB on each Riser as a minimum though, and to get four-channel (two channel per Riser) 256-bit support. You might be best served with 4 x 2GB if you need 6GB or more. And the Mac Pro can seem more memory hungry than a comparable G5.
