Segmentation faulting when copying text from various programs.

Greetings, I have had this issue ongoing for months now. I have done several re-installs and the problems will eventually come pack. Now I am not ruling out hardware as I am RMAing the motherboard as that is the only thing left remaining. This is my work PC and I get the errors below when I copy text out of Evolution, Pluma and Remmina are the primary offenders. But I get core dumps or unrecoverable hard locks also from Firefox, Chrome, when I try to change themes or click modify settings in Virtualbox when a VM is running. Below is a small snippet from journalctl.

The problem in Evolution, Pluma and Remmina I can recreate on demand to always give the error above. The others I have to switch to another virtual terminal and reboot. I have done several fresh installs. Now my PC at home is the exact same hardware minus the motherboard. I can pull my drives from this PC and move it to my home PC and the problem does not carry. I can even move all my hardware (yes everything) minus the motherboard and the problem still does not carry over. So more than likely the problem, if it is hardware, is the motherboard.
I have not updated in the past 15 days as updating any package does not fix the issue nor does re-installing the packages the error points to. I run Mate as a desktop environment currently, with GDM as my greeter. In case this is not hardware I am posting this to any open suggestions. I can obtain more logs if requested or provide the hardware specs if that will help. Thank you in advance for any help/suggestions. If this is posted in the wrong area also please let me know.

I have run RAM test inside this machine and the same RAM in my home machine on various occasions. No errors. I ran them 1 at time and all together. But as a test I also but that RAM in my home machine and the issue did not repeat. Meaning I actually swapped all my hardware(processor, RAM, hard drives and cabling). Now I only ran it for a day. But I can easily on the work machine make the error happen on demand.

BSP Error when copying text from email to Note section of a transaction

Hi All,
We are using CRM2007 for both the Interaction Centre and Sales Web Client.
When a user is creating a transaction in both roles, if one copies a piece of text from an email into the note section of a transaction at times the web client crashes and gives a BSP error.
It seems that cetain symbols are not recognised and cannot be converted when they are copied into the note section. The symbols I have noticed this to occur on are the dash symbol and the apostrophe (') symbol.
The symbols are fine when they are typed in directly, the issue only occurs if they are copied in.
The web client cannot handle this exception and falls over as a result.
However, if the text is copeid into the note section of a transaction in CRM online, any symbols it cannot convert correctly automatically convert to a hash (#) symbol.
Has anyone come across this issue before? Or have an idea as to how it could be resolved?
Even if it was possible for the webclient to convert any unknown symbols automatically into a hash (#) symbol like CRM Online so the web client would not fall over on save of a transaction.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply I guess we could not get the fiddler trace as we are getting this error while i am copying the data to excel file which is present on drive from SharePoint this is not on a browser. Correct me if I am wrong

Prohibited characters when copying text from Adobe InDesign onto SAP

Sap 4.7 Mac gui 7.10 rev3
Text is written on a MAC in Adobe InDesign
Text is then Pasted into the outbound delivery through transaction VL02N
When entering the text against the outbound delviery the characters get changed and the following error message appears
Appl area 00
Message number 195
error message appears saying the input field contains prohibited
characters
These prohibited characters get changed to #
for eaxample
"Please leave with neighbour"
goes to
#Please leave with neighbour#
Any ideas how i can stop this happening?

That is an interesting idea but is still really a lot of unnecessary mucking around when GoLive 9 should do all this automatically with no fuss at all. I have been using GL since its early PageMill days and never had this problem before.
I understand what you mean by using a blank page - I might give it a try.
I found CS2 was getting slower and slower on my PowerPC. I now have an Intel iMac. Sometimes I would go to open a GL file and I could make a cup of tea waiting for it to open (admittedly it was a large file with lots of table cells and photos). Now I can open the same file in a few seconds using GL9. I looked up the Adobe support for 10.5 and it was listed as having issues which wouldn't be resolved. Photoshop Elements 4 was listed the same yet I had had no problems with it. A friend had huge problems with InDesign when he changed to 10.5. I guess it varies from computer to computer.
Only yesterday my GL9 refused to open and thanks to these forums, we found out that yesterday's Opera browser update was the culprit. Having had such quick success using these forums I thought I would give this annoying copying problem a try and see if there was some setting I could change or something I could do to correct the fault.

Outlook 2010 freezes when pasting text from email into filename

First please make sure your Office is up-to-date.
I suspect this may be related to some 3rd-party add-ins or the security software, first please run Outlook in Safe Mode to determine if 3rd-party add-ins are related:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem copying and pasting in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
Please also disable the anti-virus program temporarily to check if this makes a difference.

On the IPad, can I copy text from an online source then paste to Pages?

Many times from ebooks as part of my own personal research,
I like to copy text from various sources
then later review the text of the copied information to render my own conclusions.
How do I copy from online sources and books and then paste into Pages?

Only if the iBook is NOT DRM protected, whch means no for the majority of titles in iTunes. You can Copt from your own PDFs or from something like the iOS User Guide, some free titles, but not from most things.
You will find that to be the case with most other book apps as well.

Copying text from pdf, "square" characters

Using SQL 2005 standard edition.
I have an issue with pdf generated reports. When copying text from the pdf (from a cell in a table row) the characters are just pasted as "squares" into notepad\word etc. Each character is just a small square. I am using Arial font and not doing anything outside of the norm. This is also an inconsistent problem, it doesnt happen on all cells\tables but only on particular ones. Could it be data specific?
Anyone come across this before?

It is not data specific but the format specific. There are many similar issues commonly encountered. The reason is that the format in the clipboard cannot be well recognized by notepad or word. You can refer to this article:

From which you can read:"Microsoft Word does not directly support conversion from Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). PDF is the format in which documents are saved for viewing and exchange in the Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Acrobat Exchange for Windows."
For those words if you could not copy/paste successfully, you may use some tools from Adobe company to extract the data from PDF file to some recognized format such as HTML. I know that there is a tool which can do this conversion:

Segmentation fault when calling dbms_alert.register() procedure from OCCI

I am just about giving up! I have upgraded Pages to 0.9 4.3. Now when i copy text from an incoming email and paste it it pastes in as an Object and I can't work on it.

It has a border round it and corner markers. I have never had this problem before. I have looked at every conceivable thing but cannot find how to get rid of this Object and just paste in the wanted text. If I fiddle and fiddle within this text I can eventually get a cursor and work on the text - but how on earth can I get rid of the surrounding box?
I don't know if this is at all clear but I can't think of any other way to describe this - but it looks like this in Pages with corner and top, bottom and side markers.

Peter hello - I have been copying and pasting for as long as I can remember and it has NEVER done this before - so why now!? Anyway, Jerry has told me about Paste and Match Style --- yet another new thing!
I have also discovered that I don''t need to hold down Option when I go to Save to get Save As - I can hold down 4 keys (shift, option, command and S) and it will bring up Save As!!

When I Copy Text From Preview, It Pastes Gibberish

More & more frequently, when I copy text from a pdf doc opened in Preview, it pasts gibberish.
I sue to be able to quit preview in 10.5.x, now on my new iMac 10.6.x, it keeps pasting the same old gibberish.
Besides using Reader, is there anything else that I can do because I like preview.

Sounds like a mucked up font database. Restart into safe mode (hold down the SHIFT key during restart and after the chime), then restart normally. Details in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455 Afterwards, launch Font Book, reset any collections, validate your fonts, and then resolve duplicates.

Indesign CC repeatedly crashes when I copy text from one InDesign document to another InDesign document. Is it possible to solve this problem?

Without system information and details like what text formatting, language settings, fonts used, paragraph styles even down to the spell check language nobody can even begin to guess.

Can't copy text from InDesign to other applications

Hi there,
Whenever I try to copy text from InDesign to any other applications, it simply fails. When I get to my text editor, email program, Illustrator or Photoshop, it's like the clipboard is empty.
I'm able to copy shapes and other objects, though. I can also copy entire text boxes, but if I'm copying to Illustrator, for instance, all the lines of text are separated. It's treated as an object and is pretty useless for typical formatting needs.
I'm on Mac OS X Mountain Lion, using InDesign CS5.
Can anyone help?

I tried unchecking "copy PDF", and also quit the only slightly-clipboard related app I use, Quicksilver, but it didn't fix the problem.

Copy text from a PDF to word. Just get Symbols

Hello,
I have a public PDF with no Copying Restrictions. When I try to copy text from the PDF highlighted text to WORD I only get unreadable garbage.
I can select the desired text and copy it into word but when I paste the text it is pasted like symbols and lines.
I tried Special Paste and does not works. It says the font is a Gill Sans something (with numbers and so on), no really a font it seems but when i change it to Arial i still get symbols.
Any help or ideas,

I have this exact same problem. It is very frustrating. How is it not possible to "grab" onto the text in the pdf ??!!
I am looking at it. I can see it. I can read it.
I can highlight the individual letters and words with the mouse pointer. (So it's not just a "picture")
With a pdf editor, I can even make the text bold, italic, or increase the font size.
SO WHY CAN'T I COPY THE TEXT! AAARGH!
No, the file is not protected.
Yes, I have tried saving as different formats. (The "save as tiff file workaround" idea is very time consuming and greatly degrades the quallity.)
The font is shown as being: "Arial083.313"
Something in the pdf program is recognizing the text, translating the 1's and 0's (that make up all computer files) into the letters that display on the screen that I can read and select with the mouse. So why can't that same "something" allow me to copy it? So frustrating.
Somebody please help. If you can solve this problem you are awesome.

I have been experimenting with snapshot isolation with Berkeley DB, but I find that it frequently triggers a segmentation fault when write transactions are in progress. The following test program reliably demonstrates the problem in Linux using either 5.1.29 or 6.1.19.

Compilation instructions are at the top of the file. The test program creates a temporary directory in /tmp, opens a new environment with the DB_MULTIVERSION flag, and spawns 8 threads. Each thread performs 100 transactional put operations using DB_TXN_SNAPSHOT. The stack trace when the program crashes generally looks like this:

I understand that this test program, with 8 concurrent (and deliberately conflicting) writers, is not an ideal use case for snapshot isolation, but this can be triggered in other scenarios as well.
You can disable snapshot isolation by toggling the value of the USE_SNAP #define near the top of the source, and the test program then runs fine without it.
Can someone help me to identify the problem?

   We have taken a look at this in more detail and there was a bug in the code.   We have fixed the bug.     We will roll it into our next 6.1 release that we do.   If you would like an early patch that will go on top of 6.1.19, please email me at [email protected], reference this forum post and I can get a patch sent out to you.   It will be a .diff file that apply on the source code and then rebuild the library. Once again thanks for finding the issue, and providing a great test program which tremendously helped in getting this resolved.
