Segmenting guest iscsi network from esx iscsi network

Should I segment the network the guest uses to directly connect to luns from the network esxi uses for its vmfs luns?  Is it adequate to control this on the storage side or should we worry about the network access also?  I'm wondering what the best practice is in this case.
thanks,
Cale

Hi Rob,
" I thought I would still need access to the storage network with shared VHDX's? "
Agree with you to use shared VHDX :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn265980.aspx
Guest operating system requirements
You must use Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 for the guest operating system. If you use Windows Server 2012, you must upgrade the Hyper-V integration services to the Windows Server 2012 R2 version.
" Don't I still need a network for guest cluster communication ie heartbeat? "
I would suggest you to reserve it .

  • How would I contain guest Wifi network in firewall?

I would like to implement a guest wifi network on my preexisting private network and can't figure out the security on my firewall. Currently the link connecting my private network to the internet is functioning fine and I really don't want to change this link into a trunk as I believe trying to reconfigure the trunk and security lists in the firewall would cause downtime. I would like to use a second interface on the firewall (5520 ASA with 8.2 software) as a trunk interface for my guest network and any other new VLAN in the future. My main concern is at the Core of my network the default gateway is the private IP for my internal firewall connection. If the guest network is connected to my core device going to the ASA, how do I specify a second default gateway on the core for the guest network on the ASA?
After writing this I realized, what if i connected a switch directly to the second trunk interface on my ASA and then used this IP as the default gateway for the guest network? I believe this should work but this leads me to one more question:
Say I wanted to allow my quest network access to a specific server on my internal network, would a proper configuration be to setup the ACLs on the firewall, allowing them to communicate to my inside network?

    Hi,
Yeah I suppose changing the existing interface to a Trunk would not be possible without somekind of downtime unless you used an untypical configuration.
Sadly, my personal knowledge of wireless networks and the devices is almost nonexistent as we have different people to handle setting up those.
But I would imagine you can use a separate Vlan for the Guest Wifi and bring that Vlan to the new ASA interface only. If your actual core switch is doing routing, in other words if its acting as a L3 switch then you should probably add the Guest Wifi Vlan only as L2 to the core switch and configure it all the way to the new ASA Trunk. Default gateway as you say would be the IP address configured on the ASA itself.
Controlling the traffic from the new interface on the ASA should be pretty simple.
access-list GUEST-WIFI remark Allow traffic to internal server
access-list GUEST-WIFI permit tcp host eq
access-list GUEST-WIFI remark Deny All traffic to Internal networks
    access-list GUEST-WIFI deny ip any
access-list GUEST-WIFI remark Allow All other traffic
    access-list GUEST-WIFI permit ip any
    access-group GUEST-WIFI in interface
The above ACL first allows some traffic to a certain internal server with a certain service. It then blocks all other traffic to the internal network. Finally it allows all other traffic. That would be all traffic destined to external public networks.
Naturally you would need possibly Static Identity NAT configurations (since you are using 8.2 software) to enable connections from the Guest Wifi to Internal network.

  • Guest ldom network issue - Need help please

I have a T4-4 sparc server and the SO is Solaris 11...
    We have 2 Qlogic/Sun FcOE 10Gb cards
    Network is configured as follows:
    1. The two ethernets are aggregated
    2. Created Vlana dn have vlan id
    3. vswitch is presented to the guests as vsw0 and vsw1.
After configuring the guest's network, guest can not reach the default gateway.
Any help is appriciated. ( all the guests are Solaris 11)

We'll need some data... Could you please post the output from the following commands (in the control domain):
    ldm -V
    ldm list
    ldm list -l
    ldm list-services
And from both guest domains and the control domian, please issue:
    dladm show-phys
    dladm show-link
    ipadm show-if
    ipadm show-addr
    netstat -r
    ifconfig -a
That will show the network configuration so we can see what's up. Also - did you plumb the vsw onto the physical interface? That was done with Solaris 10 control domains, but is no longer needed.

  • Internal Corporate wireless and guest wireless network

I need some technical information on hwo the wireless guest network is created on the Airport Extreme. We currently do not permit personal wireless devices to connect to our internal wireless network in order to protect out data. Several times users have presented us with justifiable business requests to have access to the wireless network from their own devices. We've been looking at using the Airport Extreme in order to do this, but we are bound by PCI (Payment Card Industry) requirements to keep our customer credit card data secure. PCI regulations do not consider VLAN a secure way of keeping the data isolated. Does anyone have any technical information on how the device creates the guest wireless network ?
Two or three of these on each floor would fit our need for such access and keep out customer data secure.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the discussion area!
+PCI regulations do not consider VLAN a secure way of keeping the data isolated. Does anyone have any technical information on how the device creates the guest wireless network ?+
I spoke to Apple Support some time ago and was told that Apple uses VLAN to create the Guest network, and also that formal documentation was not available on this topic. I was referred to the AirPort Extreme Specifications for available information.
This was some time ago, so if you need more up to date info, you might want to try to contact Apple to see if they are willing to share more information about this feature. Although, since VLAN is used, your question may already be answered.
FWIW, to use the Guest Network feature in a home situation, the AirPort Extreme must be set up as the main router controlling DHCP and NAT on the network. If you were thinking of installing the AirPort Extreme behind another router, the Guest Network feature would not be available in this type of configuration.

  • Guest Wireless Network

    Hello,
Is anyone aware of a way, "except for not broadcasting the SSID", to prevent clients from Inadvertently obtaining an IP address on a guest wireless network?
We are using two pair of 5508's for anchor controllers, and we're close to reaching our limit of 14k clients.  While researching, we've found a number of addresses that are being handed out, are mobile devices with their WIFI enabled, walking through our facilities, but not necassarily wanting to use the guest WIFI.
We would like to somehow not have the devices obtain an IP, unless they truly want to connect.  All I've been able to come up with is not to broadcast the SSID, which senior managment feels is not acceptable.
    Thanks

    Hi,
you can on the create on WLC, a separate dummy L3 interface (192.168.250.0/24 and a VLAN thet is not on Your LAN "3333") and WLAN with the name "1"
The DHCP is configured on 5508 with a lease of 240s.
The SSID appears first in the selection. and the clients will connect to the.
Your SSID can be broadcast and the user can select the need.

  • Guest Wireless Network Setup

I got the task of setting up a Guest wireless network for one of our remote campuses. We already have some APs that are connecting to our WLC.
    The Enviroment:
WLC Cisco 5500 is at our Corporate office. Connects to our Core Switch then to our Router
Router connects to our remote campuses over mpls
We currently already have APs at this campus that are connecting back to our WLC.
We have a DSL line at the remote campus that we want this Guest wireless routed to.
I have already created the guest network on the WLC and a guest VLAN on the Core switch
My main question is how to configure the two routers for this and have this go out the DSL modem?
    Any help is very appreciated...

That is fine. All you have to do is enable h-reap/FlexConnect local switching on the guest WLAN. Then change the mode on the AP to h-reap/FlexConnect and then the ap will reboot once it comes back up, you need to co figure the switch port as a dot1q trunk only allowing the vlans for the AP and guest. Set the native vlan on the trunk I the vlan the ap belongs on. On the h-reap ap, you will have another tab on the top for h-reap/FlexConnect. You enable vlan support and then put the vlan I'd the ap belongs on. Hit apply then go back to the h-reap/FlexConnect tab and click on vlan mapping. There you will see the guest SSID and then a box in which you can enter a vlan. That is where you will put your vlan for the guest. Now since this vlan your dsl is connected needs to reach all the AP's, you just need to create a layer 2 vlan and connect the dsl router to that. Users will get an ip from that dsl router etc.

  • How to set up guest wifi network on 1200 series APs with disclaimer web portal?

I've been thinking about this one for awhile. I want to set up a guest wifi network without any security (AES / TKIP) that allows guests to connect. Ideally, their web browser would be redirected to a web portal containing legal disclaimers, and they would need to accept the terms and conditions to use the guest wifi. I would also like to have them be required to visit the web portal again every 8 hours after that to accept the terms and conditions again.
I have a Cisco 1240AG access point already. What else do I need to make this work?

I don't believe you can do this just with an AP running in autonomous mode you would need to have a WLC to configure the splash page.
    Have a look here:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/7-0/configuration/guide/c70/c70users.html#wp1049273
Alternatively you can use software running on a PC/Server. Something like http://www.antamedia.com/hotspot/
    Hope that helps!

  • What's the best way to segment my home network?

I run a home-based business and would like to segment my home network so that I've got my home users on one "leg" and my business on another, so that remote users logging in to the business network cannot possibly access my home network.
I have a remote business partner and contractors who need to access my Windows SBS 2003 (to include Exchange server and an Opentaps database).
I have my AEBS and I also have a Linksys router. I'd like to keep my home access on my AEBS (numerous Apple components that are best served by the AEBS) and business behind the Linksys.
What is the best way to accomplish this goal?
    Thank you,
    Melissa

Do you have any suggestions for best practices in this case, or a starting point? A book or website to which I could refer to explanations of network arrangements and the benefits of various configurations?
I would recommend starting with the Cisco RVS4000 Administrative Guide which goes into more detail on each of this router's feature, specifically the sections on VPN & L2 Switch which goes into configuring the router for remote access and VLANs respectively.
If you need further assistance in setting up either, you can try the Cisco User support forums or consider hiring a network specialist to fine-tune the network based on your requirements.
Would I then attach my RVS4000 router directly to modem and then AEBS attached to RVS400? Does RVS then act as DHCP server?
Yes, you will want to configure the RVS4000 as your "main" Internet router so that you can take advantage of both the VPN & VLAN features. In addition, the Cisco is a business-grade router and offers far more control than consumer-grade routers like the AirPorts or similar routers.
Local/home network users have no need of connecting to SBS and SBS is only serving up Exchange functionality and the Opentaps database (which is accessed via web browser).
Using the RVS4000's VLAN feature, you could configure a separate VLAN segment just for non-business use. This has the added benefit of not only separating the users but also may provide better bandwidth as business & non-business traffic would be on different VLAN segments.

If I copy the .vmdk and its files over to the SCVMM library server I am able to successfully convert it.  So that is my workaround for now.

Check that WS-Management service is installed and running on server myrdshost. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult". If
myrdshost is a host/library/update server or a PXE server role then ensure that VMM agent is installed and running. Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742275 for more details.

I am having the exact same issue.  I have tried different versions of ESXi from a base image to a fully updated.  I have also played around with NIC type(1G/10G) and MTU.  The only thing I haven't tried was putting the Hyper-v hosts and ESXi
hosts on the same subnet, and that will be next, just to take the routing out of the mix, after that I will mess around with the 10G driver options.  Copying them over and converting local isn't an option for me as some of my virtual disks are 1TB+.  I
have about 300 VM's to move..   I am fully patched on the Host side as well as the VMM 2012 R2 side.
If I find out something I will let you know.

  • Read Combination segments for material account from item level

    Dear Value Consultant,
Read Combination segments for material account from item level
    "For any inventory transactions"
Is there is away to read the material account from item level , to affect the real combination segments not general combinations segments from item master or organization
    Business Impacts :
All inventory transaction for all item will affect the same combination segments for material accounts
After I transfer to GL, This not helps me to differentiate the balance for material value is related to any item category
Also for Budget Wise , I want to map the budget on combination level for materials accounts , and this not actualize without affect the real combination for material accounts in subledger ,
    Thanks

I have not seen any client asking for this, but you can consider Costing Hooks to create your own accounting engine for inventory transactions. Hope you are taalking about standard costing. In such case, costing hooks are available in Oracle for you to write your own accounting.
Even better in R12, you can do this with setup in SLA.
    Thanks

  • Multiple Airports with private and isolated guest wireless networks available from both

    Hi,
I've been searching online for some equipment that can do what i want to do without going into the enterprise grade and spending $5000 on Cisco gear.
Consider two locations approx 80m apart - Primary is a house, and secondary location is a garage. A Cat6 run exists between the two.
The goal would be to have a wireless primary router in the house for wired and private wireless internet access, with an additional Guest wireless that is isolated from the private network that I can turn on and off if guests are coming over.
In addition, the second location should also support both wired and wireless connections.
It seems simple to me, one device in each location. The WAN port on the garage device would connect back to the house device. The two devices should be smart enough to know that one is extending the other. Someone on the guest wireless that is connected via the garage AP would not be able to see the wired devices even though it's traffic is going across the same wire back to the primary router.
Can I do this without spending a fortune?
    Thanks

Two Apple AirPorts would do most....but not all...of what you want.
    A few notes.....
In order for the guest network feature to work correctly on an AirPort router, the "main" AirPort in the house must connect to a simple modem......not a modem/router or gateway device.  That is a deal killer for some users right there.
When the guest network is activated in the garage, it must be activated for both AirPorts....house and garage.
You could actiivate the guest network for the house and leave the guest network off in the garage if you wanted, no problem there.....but.....you could not activate the guest network in the garage without also activating it in the house first.
"Guests" can only connect to the guest network using wireless. Up to you to decide if you want to leave the guest network open or use a password that would need to be used to connect to the network.
But.....If "guests" had physical access to the AirPort in the garage....and they connected to one of the Ethernet ports on the AirPort in the garage, they would be connecting to your main or private network.
So, if something like this was a concern, you would have to either hide the AirPort in the garage and trust that users would not find it....or....find some way to limit access to the back panel of the AirPort so that users could not connect to it using an Ethernet cable.
If the features and installation limitations are acceptable, you could spend as little as $100 for each AirPort Express.
If you wanted better performance from the AirPort in the house, you could use an AirPort Extreme there...about $200 and an AirPort Express in the garage.
The deluxe option would be to use two AirPort Extremes.
Finally, you would want to make sure that you understood the store's return policy before you buy.....in case something unexpected crops up, as can sometimes be the case.

  • Qemu-kvm guest virtio networking halts

    Hi,
I recently switched from Debian to Archlinux, but seems to have stumbled on a bug that has made the transition a bit painfull since i rely on virtualization.
    Overview:
qemu-kvm guests network interface dies after "some"  traffic over nfs via virtio interface.
Using e1000 instead of virtio network seems to solve the problem som far... but at a cost of performance.
Any suggestions on how to resolve the issue or how to work around the problem without sacrificing performance?
    How to reproduce:
Configure the guest to use virtio as network driver and attach the interface to a bridge that the hosts has a configured interface on.
Export a share with a large amount of data over nfs from the host and read that data over nfs from the guest.
( what is funny/strange is that i could not get nuttcp to force the problem... )
    Detail:
My guest are connected via tap interfaces to a bridge on my host and they are using virtio.
After retreiving "some" network traffic from the host over nfs the guests interface stops receiving traffic and logs "page allocation failure. order:0, mode:0x20" ( Log included below )
    - tshark on guest verifies guest sending arp requests but not receiving arp reply
    - tshark on host show that the host is both receiving arp request and sending arp reply
Guests are running with the following parameters:
    %sudo /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -M pc-0.11 -enable-kvm -m 512 -smp 1 -name myguest -boot c -drive file=/mnt/myguest.img,if=virtio,index=0,boot=on -net nic,vlan=0,model=virtio,name=virtio.0 -net tap,vlan=0,name=tap.0,ifname=tap0 -serial pty -parallel none -usb -vnc 0.0.0.0:10 -k sv -vga std
    host is currently running:
    qemu-kvm 0.11.0-1
    testing/kernel26 2.6.32-1
    testing/kernel26-firmware 2.6.32-1
    guest is currently running
    testing/kernel26 2.6.32-1
    testing/kernel26-firmware 2.6.32-1
kernel from testing on both host/guest was a attempt to work around a potential issue in 2.6.30 but the fault is present with both kernels.
I don't belive that the problem lies on the archlinux guest since a Debian(Lenny) guest experiances the same problem.
The same guest on the same hardare running on Debian(Lenny) as a host works fine.

Ok, I've followed the instructions from the wiki.
One problem is that I'm on a laptop. eth0 is wireless and eth1 is wired. I chose to use eth1 since I thought it'd be easier to get working on one device before trying to make it work on both.
    1. bridge and tun modules are loaded from rc.conf
    2. In /etc/conf.d/bridges I have this:
    bridge_br0="eth1"
    BRIDGE_INTERFACES=(br0)
    3. In /etc/rc.conf I changed my networking portion to this:
    eth1="eth1 up"
    br0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth1 br0)
    4. In /etc/udev/rules.d/65-kvm.rules I have this:
    KERNEL=="tun", NAME="net/%k", GROUP="kvm", MODE="0660"
    5. My user is part of the kvm group, although I have also tried running qemu-kvm as root.
    6. In /etc/qemu-ifup I put:
    #!/bin/sh
    echo "Executing /etc/qemu-ifup"
echo "Bringing up $1 for bridged mode..."
    sudo /sbin/ifconfig $1 0.0.0.0 promisc up
    echo "Adding $1 to br0..."
    sudo /usr/sbin/brctl addif br0 $1
    sleep 2
    7. Using visudo I added this to the bottom:
    Cmnd_Alias QEMU=/sbin/ifconfig,/sbin/modprobe,/usr/sbin/brctl,/usr/bin/tunctl
    %kvm ALL=NOPASSWD: QEMU
    8. I launch qemu-kvm with the following script:
    USERID=`whoami`
    IFACE=`sudo tunctl -b -u $USERID`
    qemu-kvm -net nic -net tap,ifname="$IFACE" -vga std -m 1024 -k en-us -usbdevice tablet -localtime /dev/sda
    sudo tunctl -d $IFACE &> /dev/null
My system starts with br0 getting the dhcp IP on boot, so that part is working.
When I run the qemu-kvm start script I get this error (running as user or root):
/etc/qemu-ifup: could not launch network script
    Could not initialize device 'tap'
    /etc/qemu-ifup is executable
